So if you find yourself in Springfield, MO, with a hankering for some TexMex, what is one to do? Â Well, you can try Cielito Lindo. I've been visiting the area for 12+ years and had never tried this joint. And I'm a TexMex junkie being from Texas!
This place is average. Servers are friendly and prices are cheap. Got a pitcher of Dos Equis for $10. Our entrees were around $6-8 each. I tried an enchilada, burrito, and quesadilla. Â All were ok, the burrito was my favorite out of the three (combo #25, I think). Also tried the guac. I've had way better and fresher guac. For two of us with beers we ate for $30. Can't complain. Â Makes me long for some Pappasito's or Uncle Julio's or Blue Mesa or Mi Cocina.......need I go one.
This is a find Mexican restaurant. It's a local chain, and they definitely know how to run a American-based Mexican restaurant. They bring out chips and salsa. They give you big drinks because you've consumed a shaker full of salt. They have a huge menu with close to 100 items. The food comes out quickly. The food is hot. The food satisfies the hot, cheesy, meaty, saucy in-a-starchy craving that you sate when you eat at a Mexican restaurant. And the place is nice, too, with that Mexican restaurant decor that you'd expect (though no cliff divers, sadly).
Nothing here was out of the ordinary, good nor bad, and certainly, we'd go back, though we'll probably check out the dozen or so other Mexican restaurants in town first, just to see if one of the other places does have that special item or taste.
I had the Chili Relleno. Â If you're a fan of those....don't order it here. Â
I'm an out of towner, and this is where the staff opted to go for lunch, so I tagged along. Â
The Chili Relleno is my standard when I go to a new mexican food place. Â This one was not breaded, was not deep fried and had no filler. Â It was a roaster chili pepper, covered in cheese sauce and a tomatoe enchilada sauce. Â
The rice and beans were good. Â Perhaps I would be more satisfied with another meal there. Â Just disappointing to have my favorite dish be not so good here.
OK for American Mexican food. Ordered fajita and the ingredients seemed fresh. The guacamole is processed and beans and rice nothing special. Salsa too sweet and not spicy enough. Added habanero sauce that was on the table and made it better. Staff moderately friendly to this out-of-towner. Not bad, not great, not authentic mexican food.
Review Source:I go here more than any other place in Springfield. It's good and simple inexpensive Mexican food in a fun atmosphere. Lots of trinkets, flags, and cool artwork on the walls. Food is great, especially for this area. It's not quite as awesome as some Mexican food I've had in Texas, but if you get the chimichanga you'll be satisfied. Tacos are great. Shredded chicken is tasty. Ooh and the cheese dip with fresh chips. Mmm.
Review Source:The staff are friendly (as long as they are not watching soccer games), and the decor is typical, but the food is sub-par. I much prefer the flavor at Amigos in Springfield or Fiesta in Ozark.
The beans are not "arreglado" and everything tastes greasy and old. They mix lard in with the rice so it glistens and slides down your throat. Gross.
I keep going back to Amigo's Mexican Restaurant - they don't cook with Lard.
Serviceable Mexican food (the standard fare). Â How this place rates 5-stars for anyone is WAYYY beyond me. Â Guess actual mexican food is a mystery in Missouri.
It appears all the mexican joints I eat at serve the same menu, same recipes, and same ingredients... I'm looking for one to stand up and do either Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican food differently and better.
This place is a good spot to eat, but it's nothing special.
This is my favorite restaurant in Springfield! Â Cielitio Lindo means "Beautiful Little Heaven" in Spanish and boy is it a piece of El Cielo! Â Great food at a cheap price. Â You'll find all your standard Mexican dishes along with a few restaurant specialties. Â Be sure to try "El Beto" special called "Quesadilla Cielito." Â It packs a stuffed chicken quesadilla with rice, beans, guacamole salad and chips and salsa for only $5.97. Â On Fridays and Saturdays there is usually a Mariachi band that comes around and plays for customers, especially couples. Â Check it out!
Review Source:Ain't nothing better than cheap mexican food and outstanding frozen margaritas. Â This is the place to relax and let go. Â Very friendly wait staff, even if they don't speak a lot of English, they are still so very nice. Â For lunch, order their "Speedy Gonzales" lunch. Â It's at your table in under 5 minutes and so good!
Review Source:Pretty good. Like any lower-priced Mexican place, the rice, beans, and extras pretty much taste the same. Had a nice beef fajita quesadilla for $5.95. Definitely worth the money. Has a spicier salsa to start, then the usual choices for a meal. Bottom line, not a bad place to spend $20 for a meal for two.
Review Source:This is by far my favorite restaurant (Mexican or otherwise). Â The food is delicious and by my standards very authentic. Â The drinks are very reasonably priced and the staff is generally pretty attentive. Â You can't go wrong eating here. Â Everything I've eaten is fantastic and the portions are very generous (which is nice since I am six feet tall and weigh over two hundred pounds; I don't want a petite meal!)
Review Source:This is the best place to go get a quick "Mexican" lunch in Springfield. Â I mean there is not a bad meal in the place. Â You can walk in there at the lunch rush, sit down, order drinks, a meal, pay and be walking out the door in less than a half hour if you really wanted to. Â
Really though if you don't have to rush then just take everything in. Â The decor and music are great. Â Once you are seated you are given a basket of chips that are made in house with some homemade salsa. Â If you want something hotter just ask. Â Flip open a menu and just point to something it's all good. Â I go for the number ten on the lunch menu most of the time. Â You always are given refills on your drinks and chips promptly. Â Most of all it's really affordable two can have lunch for under $15 with ease. Â Friendly quick service with a cantina feel, what more could you possible ask for?
My favorite "budget-friendly" mexican restaurant EVER. It is cheap, but the food is fast and I have always thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The cheese sauce is white (becoming hard to find among mexican restaurants) and SO GOOD. When i started going to the Campbell location YEARS ago, the staff could barely speak English and I was thankful for minoring in Spanish - but nowadays, the staff has come a long way. Not only do they speak better English, but will joke with you and take such good care of you. You are lucky if you get Jose (Campbell location), he has a great personality and sense of humor. Very intelligent and makes me, my family, or my friends feel like VIPs everytime. And their margaritas - insane. $10 for a pitcher - and that's not your average Springfield watered-down margarita either. Girls, take some girlfriends (or a hot date) and order a pitcher sometime soon - and see where the night ends up...
