I went to this restaurant unprepared, after doing Trader Joe's groceries and just because my son was hungry and wanted pasta; well, perhaps I was not lucky because the young, blond waiter greeted us very apathetically and after we were seated, you could clearly see and feel his arrogance... after ordering a sparking water ($6.00) my son and I made the decision to leave. We were the only people in the entire restaurant so it was not like he was tired... he must have had a bad day, or he is inexperienced, or he is simply shallow person. I can not offer you a food review but I can definitely offer an attitude review. Sad.
Review Source:Went there for Mother's day with my son.  It was my second time at Citron, and I left again, disappointed  Super small portions for the price!  We're not big eater's either.  I wish the waiter would of mentioned all the evenings specials?  instead of hearing about them from another table by a different waiter..... I asked for bread for two of us and we received one roll, which i hope they didn't charge us for it? We split a nice salad, which was the size of the dinner roll! for additional 3 dollars, lol.  The eggplant stack was too small for an entree for 18.00. We both left still hungry, darn!
Nice atmosphere and good quality of food.
A few changes and this would be a 4 star
Until then, I don't think will return.
They have a fresh fish special every night. It is to die for. The bread they serve in the beginning is addictive.
The server was knowledgeable about the wines and was able to answer all questions regarding the food as well.
It is a quaint atmosphere with a wide variety of delicious fresh goods. You can see your food being put on the service counter so you know it is hot!
Cute restaurant with a nice ambience and good service. Food did not meet our expectations, especially since they boast about being one of the best restaurants in the IE. My halibut was good but way overpriced considering the small portion. My husband asked for his steak to be cooked medium and he got a totally charred steak instead... He was embarrassed to complain about it and the waiter didn't ask why he left most of it unfinished on his plate (he probably realized it was inedible). We won't come back to dine here.
Review Source:Had a great meal here last night after a long day. The lentil soup was good and the smoked salmon penne in vodka sauce with capers was amazing.
A very loooooong wine list that my dining companions foolishly entrusted me to choose from. Had a good Pinot noir from Oregon (even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time).
Great time at this restaurant when I treated my Dad and the family to his birthday dinner here. Â Nice, courteous service, great food and timely served. Â Its a nice mix of italian and american foods, all of it was very fresh and tasted great. Â There is also vegetarian specific dishes. Â Only qualm is the prices, which are pretty high. Â Dinner for 4 with two bottles of wine was 200, which is more than what your average college student earns and may shock the typical middle class family. Â All in all, I don't think that this place deserves the 3 stars it has, so don't be scared away from that. Â Highly suggest this place for a good, hearty dinner. Â Perfect for dates and family dinners.
Review Source:It was a good restaurant. Â We had a great meal. Â Was easy to make reservations. Â I had the Cannelloni I forgot what the rest of the table had. Â It was probably the best meal that we had in Redlands by far. Â I was a little surprised that our server didn't really know where the wines they served were from, I was feeling like an Oregon Pinot or a California Syrah, and he had to go and ask the bartender twice. Â I had 2 glasses of wine. Â Maybe he was new.
On a side note. Â If you want to go from one extreme to another after dining at Citrone walk down 2 doors and hit the Pink Flamingo for a night cap. Â Both places are phenomenal in exact opposite ways. Â I dig that shit.
So super delicious!
I love the decor, I love the simplicity of the menu, I love that the ingredients are so fresh!
We went here on a Tuesday night with friends we made reservations and got there not long after they opened.
The server was really nice and it was a little slow going at first but worth the wait.
We ordered a salad as a starter it was called Hawaiian Punch and was greens with fresh strawberries, papaya, pineapple, mango with balsamic dressing and topped with mozzarella cheese. Very refreshing and good - not something I would have usually even tried but so glad I did. Â
We ordered the Pacific Salmon with scalloped potatoes and fresh veggies. It was so delicious I seriously could have eaten two orders.
Hubby tried their Sea bass special which was a little on the spicy side and it came with rice and veggies it was well prepared and also delicious.
We ordered a bottle of pinot grigio (sp?) To share I was afraid at first because it had a screw on cap but was happy that it was a great bottle of wine - now if I could only remember the name. I also ordered a Sweet Tart and it was good super sweet for sure but a yummy drink.
Hubby also had the creme brulle and it came with fresh blueberries and strawberries. He liked it.
Not as expensive as it could have been 4 people and it was right around $200.
I can't wait to eat here again when we are in town again!
Service left a lot to be desired. A lot. After waiting for someone to come to table, waited over 15 minutes for drink order to arrive, then wait to order food, wait for salads, wait for bread, wait for entrees . . Â . We waited so much that we started making jokes at the table about if we would ever get our food or be able to leave before the placed closed for the night.
Food is good if you order right items (ravioli special and citrone stack are good but do not recommend smoked salmon vodka penne), but prices do not make the meal anywhere near a good value.
It was a Monday night and as usual everything was closed in the wonderful city of Redlands. We stopped at four other restaurants before settling on Citrone. I'd eaten here before and wasn't all that impressed.
We started with the artichoke in pickled relish with an olive oil drizzle. Good but I thought the artichoke was overcooked.
Next the citrone stack, onion, eggplant, tomato, on bed of mashed potato's with a balsamic drizzle. Kris had the Gorgonzola penne pasta with chicken, always eats pasta and chicken. She's a runner and needs her carbs.
A few vodka's for m and a few glasses of wine for her and we left satisfied.
Great place. Went there for lunch around 2pm. Had a very kind waitress, Allison, who waited us very professionally and personally. Yes it is a bit classy and slightly on the expensive side, but the atmosphere, taste and service quality worth it in my sense.
It was lunch so didn't look at the wine list.
A little to much air conditioning I would say.
4 Star because well, AC + price. But really, I think it is a great place to discover and to spend quality time in.
Stopped in for lunch and loved it, will be back for dinner. Prices seemed fair to me, but being from San Francisco I have no problem paying for great food and atmosphere.
What I liked: My pasta dish was great, loved the red sauce on my linguine, salad was great and had really fresh fruit, service was also great, let us linger and take our time and was responsive.
What could be better: warm bread, serve warm bread and you'd be a 5 star.
Thank god for a Redlands restaurant that has charm, atmosphere and great food. We will be back.
Worst experience ever in a restaurant...and I eat at restaurants 7 days per week! Food was good but a bit expensive.
We requested a bottle of wine and after taking a drink, we found the taste to be off-completely off. A skunk, moldy flavor and asked them to take the wine back. First came an argument with the waiter who would not take not it back, then a manager who also said that we bought it and that we would be charged not matter what. We finally got him to agree not to charge us, and then came another argument with the same waiter who rudely told us that we have no idea what we were talking about and that because we sent that bottle back, we could no longer order wine!!!
Someone told me about this place. Â They had heard good things about it. Â So basically I was trusting a hand-me-down recommendation, but nonetheless I went with it. Â So the perfect opportunity presented itself.... a first date! YAY. We would both be experiencing something new.
The decor is tastefully done, a few pictures, fresh table cloths and the light chatter or conversations. Â Great restaurants don't overwhelm you with knick knacks.
The Wine - majority of their wine selection is by the bottle. Â They do offer by the glass options, you just have to ask. Â I had the Riesling and it was delicious. Â Not to dry and not to sweet, perfect.
Entree - I had the Smoked Salmon with Vodka Cream sauce and Penne. Â Let me tell you, it was delicious. Â Its like the took Bagel and Lox and upped the ante. Â The capers and creamy sauce were a perfect blend.
Dessert - they were out of everything I wanted. Â I hate tiramasu and u can get cheesecake anywhere. Â So I just had coffee, which was great too.
Service - our server.... Lacey I believe was awesome. Â Friendly and not annoying, attentive and not overbearing and welcoming. Â Love her.
Ill be back Citrone.... Ill be back
I had lunch here with some friends here today. I was impressed with the decor. It was nice and airy, kind of reminded me of "Louise's" Italian restaurant chain. There were only 2 servers and I came in a few minutes late. After 10 minutes, I had to ask for ice water. The bread was the size of a cheesburger bun split in 4. We had over 16 people so we had to keep asking the server for more bread. Not very attentive. It took a long time before our ice waters were refilled.
The menu looked simple enough. I was pretty hungry so I ordred the Linguini with premium meatballs for $16. What turned out was a pretty mediocre serving of pasta with 2 marshmellow sized meatballs. It was good but not great. Â I finished the plate in a few minutes, not even half way full. I expected ALOT more for the price.
Overall, I was disappointed by the size of the entrees, the prices and the underachieving service. Small things separate the mediocre to the great restaurants. This restaurant has potential and everything starts with excellent service. I probably won't return here.
Sunday night, I took a nice drive over to Redlands to visit my cousin Christine and her hubby. We were sort of at odds because it appears that much of Redlands shuts down early on Sundays. Good thing Citrone is open till 9pm!
Reservations were not required as there were ample table vacancies. Our attentive and fun wait staff person was Greg. Bread with EVOO and Balsamic Vinegar was served immediately after we were seated. Greg did not know the specials of the day off the top of his head but that was alright since he had them written down in front of him.
I ordered the Penne Eggplant. Christine, the Penne Vodka Smoked Salmon. Eric (her hubby), the Penne Arribiatta. For starters, we ordered the Buffalo Mozzarella and Sautéed Mushrooms. For dessert, I ordered the Creme Brulee and they shared the Tiramisu. Our choice of beverage was Solé Sparkling Water.
Buffalo Mozzarella: 4/5
It's been a while since I last enjoyed this dish and it certainly was delish! Combining the flavors of the EVOO/Balsamic Vinegar drizzled sauce atop the mozzarella with tomato and freshly chopped basil was quite excellent.
Penne Eggplant: 3.5/5
Although the flavor of this dish was acceptable, it could have benefited from a tad more eggplant and buffalo mozzarella. I found the eggplant to chopped in larger chunks for my tastes.
Creme Brulee: 4/5
This version of Creme Brulee was quite excellent, however I found the custard to be a little thick. I did appreciate the evenly caramelized brulee which required a strong thrust to crack! Well done!
Overall, Citrone is not too shabby and frankly, a very fine dining establishment for the Redlands area. If you cannot make the  pilgrimage to West Los Angeles and are in the San Bernardino County, Citrone is surely an Italian restaurant you may like to consider.
Went there tonight before we caught a movie. Had early reservations to avoid the dinner crowd. Waitress was very courteous and was very attentive throughout our meal. Nice ambiance good place to have conversation over dinner.
What may seem a bit pricey is pretty average for California cuisine so no sticker shock here.
Food: overall was very good. Generous entree portions but not excessive.
Appetizer, steamed clams and mussels, it was good but not great, mostly clams a couple of mussels. Â The broth didn't absorb into the clams and mussels well, but did add good flavor if drizzled on them.
Salad: special pear and pomegranate with Gorgonzola crumbles was really good, very fresh and lightly dressed, so you can taste each component but got the full flavor effect.
Entrees: I ordered the Penne with porccini mushrooms and sausage in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce and the wife ordered the cannelloni. The pene was perfectly cooked, the sausage was a little salty but was very tasty, the sauce was rich, creamy and earthy from the mushrooms, could have used more mushrooms but was a great combination. Wife liked the cannelloni, i tried a bite and it was very flavorful and light, the meat sauce was flavorful but subtle enough for the filling to  to stand out.
Great wine selection, food is better than average and better than the reviews. I can see service taking a hit during prime dinner time, eat a little earlier if you want their full attention.
I ate at this restaurant the last time I was in Redlands on business. The atmosphere inside is nice and cozy. There is a small bar, but you wouldn't know it because it's buried in the far back of the restaurant...not visible whatsoever when you walk in. The people at the bar seemed friendly enough, and the bartender was very attentive despite the fact he was splitting duty between the few bar patrons and the restaurant.
The prices are a bit on the expensive side, especially for what is mainly pasta. The filet is $35, and this is no steak house. I tried a cannelloni dish and some crab cakes which were on special. Both dishes tasted excellent. I can't say the same for when they came back up later in the evening. Getting food poisoning is bad enough...getting it on a short business trip after paying $50+ for the dinner is even worse. I will not be going back to Citrone. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area which have good food and won't kill you.
Went a few days ago. I had the canneloni and my husband had a seafood pasta special. The food was good, not great. The prices are ridiculously high. Our service was fine, took awhile for my second glass of wine to arrive. We had boycotted the place several months ago because they wouldn't seat us at an empty bar after coming in every thursday and ordering $80+ bottles of wine. We went every market night for months. Still isn't worth it!
Review Source:The saddest part is I've had 5 star food and service here many times before... Â But I started a yelp account just because of THIS restaurant. Â Bad service, the only time the waiter came was to bring the food, and then the check. Â But I got really sick from the undercooked fish, I was actually sweating / dripping sweat from my reaction to it. Â The chef said it was fine, the "bad service" did not see if I was fine, and we left quickly so I could run to my own bathroom to "take care of it". Â ((I'll call later to see if they'll at least apologize cause I love the restaurant, and I don't want to have a bad last experience - let's see how they follow up on issues))
Bad Follow Up / Follow Through - I called the next day (because I was still sick, and now my girlfriend was sick. Â We both spent the entire evening in the bathroom. Â When I called, they said "This doesn't happen to us in our restaurant" Â "people don't get sick from our food" Â "It can't be our food that you got sick from". Â And that was it. Â No sorry, No I hope you get better. Â C'Mon... Â That's just bad service. Â So, they get a ONE STAR for not even following through. Â DON'T GO THERE!!!
I ate at this cozy place for the first time yesterday, June 18th. Â i had the fish special which was halibut on a bed of rice. Â it was delicious! Â My friend had a pasta, bean, red pepper etc dish and it was also delicious. Â I was very pleased at the fantastic selection of wines. Â The one we had was the Claiborne & Churchill 2007 Dry Gewurztraminer It is fantastic and the first time I have seen this wine in a Southern CA restaurant. Â
Overall we were extremely pleased with our experience and will definitely go again.
Our waiter was very solicitous  This place should definitely be on your list for a evening out.  It is a real plus in an area with a shortage of good restaurants!
I was reading through the reviews and noticed there wasn't anything recent that has been said about Citrone. Â I wanted to give it a try and see if there could be a fresh take on the mixed reviews.
I had the eggplant parmesan with penne and buffalo mozzarella. Â I was imagining slices of crispy breaded eggplant covered in melting, oozing mozzarella atop a bed of penne. Â But alas, no. Â That's not what I got. Â It was penne mixed with eggplants, bits of mozzarella and tomato. Â The focus was the pasta and not the eggplant. Â Severely disappointing because it was flavorless.
My boyfriend had the fish special. I think it was called "pacu pacu" but I know I'm wrong on the spelling. Â The waiter likened it to sea bass but I think it looked and tasted more like tilapia. Â Fish was beautiful in presentation, nicely seared with veggies on the side. Â But flavor didn't live up to it. Â
They have wine by the half or full bottle-- I finished a half bottle and I think it mellowed me. That's probably one reason why the dinner didn't turn out so bad! Â
The 3 stars for this review is due to the friendly waitstaff. Â Extremely courteous, personable and definitely not pretentious. Â An early reviewer mentioned that a waiter asked her to take her hat off-- we were casual in jeans and sandals and my BF was wearing a hat but we weren't met with any disdain. They were always there to refill the wine and check on us at good intervals. Â Despite the lackluster food, I think I would go back to check out the rest of the menu and enjoy the comfortable and inviting ambiance.
Forget about the posts saying, "bad service" or "average food;" Â they couldn't be further from the truth.
Quite simply, Citrone is one of the two nicest restaurants in the Redlands, loma Linda, San Bernardino, Highland, Yucaipa, Calimesa, Beumont, Banning, & Colton area!
The wine selection is amazing, the pasta dishes & salads are world-class.
The only thing I'd recommend staying away from is the ribeye & filet (absolutely NO seasoning besides salt & pepper). Â Go next door for some of the best steaks in So.Cal..
Went for dinner just last night. Had a pretty crappy experience next door (mr greensleeves did NOT deliver) so i was hoping for better, but i honestly havent heard alot of great things about this place.
We were pleasantly surprised!!! Waitstaff didnt seem rude or condescending as suggested in other reviews. Not artificially stuffy like next door either.
Started with the special greek salad and it was fab! Spades better than the nonsense they serve next door----nice amount of dressing----the tomatoes were perfectly ripe and sweet (and for february, thats a feat!) and a good amount of kalamatas and cheese, without being overkill. Fiance had caprese---actually commented also on how good the tomatoes were. I tried some and actually really enjoyed it. Had bits of sundried tomatoes also. Only thing, he said he like the mozzarella next door better (runnier) whereas i like mine on the firmer side.
For the entree, i got the penne with gorgonzola and pine nuts. Pretty  much a cheesy white sauce with some peppers and grilled chicken. Yum! I cannot wait to dig into the leftovers. Fiance had the special salmon pasta with mushrooms and capers in cream sauce and looooved it.
Dessert was really nice as well. I had the chocolate panna cotta (basically heavy cream, chocolate, sugar, and vanilla with gelatin added) if its made right, it doesnt have the strange consistency of flan, which gags me. Perfect creamy consistency, served with some ripe strawberry and blackberry. He had some chocolate peanut butter pie thing. Both finished fat and happy.
All and all, including 1 drink apiece, 1 bottle of champagne, 2 salads, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts, 160 without tip. And did i mention the portions??? I have about half of my pasta left for breakfast!!! I am so excited to eat it!
So contrary to other opinions, we had a great time. We are thinking of going back next week, we liked it so much.
