City Beefs

Yep, Steven M. pretty much nailed it.  Unfortunately I didn't read the review before my visit.  Too many good burgers in the area to waste a meal on such a mediocre beef.

I didn't want to go to McCrapass again, so I wondered around and this is what I found. It is hooked up to a Domino's. And I think the whole thing used to be a gas station?  The first thing that I noticed when I walked in was all the pictures of other beef joints in Chicago. Freddie's, Buona, Mr. Beef. And I thought I was in for a treat. Hmm. I ordered a beef and fry with mild peppers. The first thing she does is take a bun out of the freezer and nukes it. Then she dumps the fries and hooks me up with my drink. As I am waiting. (I'm the only one in the joint at 12:30 in the afternoon) I looked around at the pictures and wondered. If you have no affiliation with these places. Why are you advertising for them? Then I saw the local rag that put them in the paper and gave them a plaque. They hung it with the wrapper still on it? So I get my food after nine bucks and change. (I thought I left Chicago?) I get a huge bag, with some fries in it. They were o.k. A little under cooked, but I saw them come out of the cooler. The beef was disappointing. It was dry and juicy at the same time. It did have the mild hash on top. But I should have gotten the hot because it really didn't add anything to it. I know this in the only beef place in town. But it wasn't that good. And for the money, it was outrageous.
