$4 AMFs and Long Islands?
Don't mind if I do.
Came here for a girls night and I really enjoyed the atmosphere.
It can get a bit crowded, but forthe most part it's not too bad. There are tables on the side where you can gather around to chill for a while.
Also, LIVE MUSIC! The band that was playing when I was there was amaaazing. It was so refreshing to not listen to overbearing bass for once.
The only gripe I have is that they closed down and kicked us out pretty early :(. I think by 12:30 they were already turning on the lights and slowly shuffling people out.
Came here on a friday night with some friends.
I love the outdoor seating, but think I would have enjoyed it more in the daytime. Â The bar area was pretty packed, and plenty of people were dancing. $4 long islands, AMFs, tokyo iced teas!
They were playing a mix of house, dubstep, and hip hop.
Nice bartenders!
This would be a fun place to start the night before heading out to other bars in the area. Â Â People started clearing out around 11-12.
I've only been here a couple times on Saturday nights but it's a good spot to begin before heading out dancing or to other bars. 4 dollar drink deals for AMF/long island/tokyo tea. Gets pretty packed and isn't that large of a space and while some people dance it isn't the most ideal place for dancing. This bar shares a restroom with Bistro.
Review Source:Outdoor seating + lots of space + warm weather + good beers on tap = perfection
I'm not sure why there weren't more people sitting outside around 5 pm on a Friday here. Â Understandably, happy hour isn't as big as it is in Davis as it is in SF. Â Someone should make it a thing ;) Â And they should do it here!
I could think of at least 4 other places that will give you better food and better service for much cheaper.
Atmosphere is great. The place is very unique.
The food however, not so much. Portions are ridiculous for the price. The food is so greasy, and the fries are very over-salted. I couldn't finish it, and I am not usually a guy that leaves food behind.
Beer selection is adequate. I am very particular with my beer and the stout I ordered was recommended, and it was a great beer. Happy with the choice.
But overall, especially with all these new bars and happy hour specials here, I would not come back again.
I dont think many people know that City Hall Tavern exists since it is essentially inside of Bistro Restaurant. City Hall Tavern and Bistro also share the same restrooms and patio area.
City Hall Tavern is a bar that has appetizers and drinks with a ping pong table, and live music at night. You wouldnt come here if you want to dance in a club, you would come here to grab a drink and food (Bistro makes the food but they have a different menu than Bistro).
Their happy hour prices are actually very good... you can get appetizers for about $4 and beers for about $3-5.
This place is very chill compared to other bar scenes. It does not get as much traffic, but that's a good thing when going out. I have been here on Thursday nights for their Mojito Nights and on Fridays. I can say that going here on a Thursday early evening is a great time to take a group out. Especially if you plan to get there a bit early to catch some of the happy hour deals that go till 6:00pm.
Environment: 3/5
Like I mentioned earlier, Thursday nights are a very relaxed day and it was not super crowded. There was plenty of space for a group of 7 to get a table (We came at 6pm). There are many TVs so it's a plus for me, I like to be able to watch some sports will drinking.
Beer/Drinks: 3/5
I ordered a Dos Equis on tap during happy hour, which set me back $3, very good indeed. I believe the prices double during normal bar hours so that would seem to be average price of a beer.
The real treat is to get a pitcher of a mojito during their Mojito Thursdays. Given that I have been there with a group of girls, I have been exposed to a few of their flavors and I can say that the "Dragon Berry" (spelling?) was the one that was the best. A pitcher runs $12 so it's a fairly good deal to split with between 2 or 3 people.
Prices: 3/5
As mentioned earlier, the prices run about average. The best time would be to come during happy hours (4pm-6pm I believe). Thursday night mojitos are great deal as well.
They also offer food during bar hours and they have $4 appetizers, and I like to get their hot wings or pretzel.
Overall, this is a pretty average bar scene in Davis. Nothing too fancy, but its one of the places you'd have an easier time getting into on the busiest of Friday/Sat nights.
Smallish bar with limited seating. Decent rotating selection of on tap beers and a lot of bottled beers available here. Bartenders are pretty friendly and mix nice cocktails when it's not too crowded. Quality really drops when it's busy. Women's restroom is pretty gross. Always has a bad smell and is often VERY messy. There is a pool table in a separate section of the bar kind of behind a curtain.
I like this bar best when it's not very busy, bad for them better for me.
Great patio to sit out on, slightly elevated from the affiliated Bistro 33 patio and therefore great for people-watching. Â They've got some good beers, a ping-pong table, and a VERY small stage for live music. Â
We did eat some of the food -- the Korean "street" tacos were pretty good, as were the sliders. Â I am assuming that the food comes from Bistro -- making the tastiness of the grub served at City Hall funny, because the food at Bistro has been spirit-crushingly average every time we've dined there.
The bottom line is the same as for Bistro 33: Â The amazing patio covers ALL sins, but just barely. Â If it's a nice day or evening, sit outside and drink a beer or two... then amble somewhere else for dinner.
When did this place appear?  I had no idea?  I went here for a comedy show with a  few friends and this place rocks! The prices are standard and there aren't too many seats, but thats ok.  There is a giant menu chalked on the wall that is filled with good stuff.  Not too many undergrads here also, which is this place's golden ticket.  I haven't seen this yet, but Ive heard they do stationary bike races on some nights.
Review Source:Dropped in to watch the MLB playoffs and order a few pints and bar food. The happy hour menu offers up some great alternatives to your traditional fried bar food menu options. The rotating handles and the bottled beer selection is also sufficient. The ping pong table is also pretty sweet.
My only gripe is that we were charged full price for our beers during happy hour because the manager hadn't put stars by the HH beer selections available. Even though he starred them later before we paid our bill and we ordered beers that happened to be starred, we didn't get the HH price. Kind of lame. How about you take care of that before Happy Hour starts?
For great beer and fair prices, City Hall Tavern is my go-to pub. Â It always has a relaxed atmosphere, and the best beer list in town.
This place stands out in stark contrast to it's sister establishment, the Craptacular Bistro 33.
City Hall seems to have an ever rotating selection of excellent beer. Â Their menu always has several IPA's, however, they have a selection of several other craft beer styles.
while bistro is great, city hall tavern is curiously over-confident. Â are we in davis or bungalo 9? Â some staff are insanely rude. Â some staff are very nice. Â you never know what you're gonna get. Â also i'm pretty sure it is unconstitutional out-of-state discrimination to enforce a complete ban on residents from 5 states within the country? Â what's so bad about utah and virginia?
Review Source:A pretty low key place, City Hall Tavern is located in the back of Bistro 33, but you'd never have suspected it because the two places are so different. While Bistro has a classier, take your parents here vibe, City Hall is more hang out with your friends, chill vibe. I like the bike theme as well, it very fitting for this city.
Every time I come here with my friends, we always manage to find some seating, whether it be at a table with chairs, or just standing around one of the tall tables. The drinks are pretty good here & they have a decent selection of local craft beers. The bar does get pretty crowded because the place is so small, so sometimes you have to wait a while to get a drink. Maybe just order some snacks to distract you, I've been eyeing those Doritos nachos! I think they offer a lot of the same apps from Bistro.
I'd come here if you're looking for a low key night to grab and drink & chat with friends. Don't expect any kind of crazy fist pumpin' rowdiness to occur here. That's Tres.
I hate Bistro 33 and all that it stands for. Â I like City Hall Tavern. Â
What happens when a hipster drops acid? You get the atmosphere of City Hall Tavern. Â It's a very laid back place to catch up with friends, play ping pong, challenge strangers to bike offs and enjoy a great selection of beer.
if you go to tavern, you must try their long island ice tea! pretty good and they do their work! I love the way its decorated and its a great place to just hang out with your friend for the night. Although it does get crowdy sometimes when the band is inside instead of the patio. Tavern is connected to Bristro and service is pretty much the same, bartenders are nice and always quick with your drinks. =]
Review Source:Interesting that this place hasn't received any more reviews.
I cant give feedback on the food, never tried it, and honestly probably never will.....This place is in my opinion, the first stop in your adventures through this small college town and its downtown of bars.
The drinks here are A-ok in my book. For $4 bucks you can get yourself a long island or tokyo ice tea......safe to say, that nothing says a good start to a night, than $4 long islands, and tokyos......
The environment is quite lively, especially on thursday and friday nights.
the staff are real cool guys to talk with and are real down to earth.
enjoy!
Bistro 33's City Hall Tavern is a pretty cool place to hang out in Davis. There is a definitely a theme that anyone in Davis can appreciate as biking is just a part of the culture around here. The chalkboard menu and the decor is pretty cool, a mix between rustic and modern. They have a new beer every Wednesday, ping pong, and bike races inside. If you need a bar that keeps you busy while you're drinking this is the place. They have pretty decent happy hour special and their menu looks tasty.. (I have yet to try the food), but I think that they could work service, when I sat down they made me come up and order from the bar, and didn't have anyone working at 8pm to take orders from those guests who are sitting at tables, and the bar only has 4-5 seats so that seemed a little confusing.
