The Davis Beer Shoppe

I'm leaning towards a 3.5 star rating, but I'll be generous and round up.

This is a pretty good place to buy beer. Their selection is varied and stocked with a decent selection of local California beers as well as out of state. Maybe I'm just spoiled having come from San Diego, but I expected a wider array of rarer beers. Yes, they do indeed have some unique/hard to come by ones, but it just feels like something is missing. Still for the area this is about as good as you're going to find. The prices are reasonable as well.

Didn't really stay to drink beer, but I hear it gets crazy crowded.

I read someone else's review and I think they summed it up best as, "A great place to buy beer, but not an outstanding one." Still if I was in the area I'd check it out again. For now though my go to store will remain City Beer Store in SF.

Definitely appreciate this place! If spots like the beer shoppe and the Sophias venue didn't exist, Davis would be the poorer for it. Just a pleasant little spot to hang out with a good variety of beers. Most of the servers are friendly.

Five stars. The name says it all.

PROS:  Daily rotating pours, super-knowledgeable folks, HUGE selection of beers to buy and try there or take home with you. The "store" part at the back is like all of the good parts of the Bevmo beer section, but with more beers. Clientele is super-diverse and really chill.

CONS: Occasional "too cool" employee interactions, small seating area (which could also be a "pro," depending on whether you can get a seat!

Really the beer nerd capital of Davis. A+.
