One of the best jazz clubs in any city. The spectacular Lake Erie background sets a perfect late night mood... Enjoy great music, classic standards, and unobtrusive tiered seating.
The most important point is that nothing gets in the way of the music. It's just great music + a cool atmosphere = one of the best jazz clubs I've ever been to around the country.
"The Bop Stop is a music listening room. The managements requests you remain QUIET during all performances." These signs, liberally covering the tables and walls, say it all. The management isn't running a bar that happens to have jazz - they're running the downtown outpost of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music's jazz posse.
The acoustics in the Bop Stop are second-to-none. The whole building was clearly designed for one purpose - listening to fantastic live jazz (primarily instrumental jazz, too.)
They allow you to bring your own bottle of wine for a small corkage fee, and have a very limited menu. Eat first, and plan on enjoying some drinks during the show.
There's a for-sale sign out front, and no events listed on their website. This begs the question - has the bop stopped?
