Nice place to come dance salsa. Cover was $10 with lesson, or $5 after 9pm. It's a small low key place to come practice, no pressure like in the Mayan, where u go to show off what you've been working on all week. Everyone seemed friendly and we didn't get stepped on which means everyone at least knew the basics. The DJ played some good music and even switched the song if nobody liked it. Only thing that was missing was a live band for a 5 star rating. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the valley.
Review Source:STAY AWAY!!! Â You've been warned. Â The unfriendly and hostile bartenders charge (illegally by the way) for tap water. Â They also charge $4 for each (small) bottled water. Â Unless you enjoy shady people screwing you out of your money, don't bring your business here. Â
The only redeeming aspect of this place is the Salsa dance instructor Alejandro Sol. Â He's excellent, affordable ($10 a class) and keeps the class lively and entertaining. Â Alejandro also instructs at a studio on Lankershim so go there instead of this money pit in Tarzana.
I came in around six thirty on a weekday for a drink. It was a good thing I didn't plan on staying long. The bartender was a little too preoccupied with her three other patrons and didn't really pay me much attention. I
the place has a pretty decent size and has a pretty large stage. They boast a night of salsa dancing with free lessons with a $10 cover charge.
I would actually come back to check it out, but mostly because I'm curious what the crowd will look like. Â While I was drinking, I was the only one under thirty. Everyone seemed to be pushing middle age.
There's a jukebox, bar games, and a couple of arcades. There's one pool table, but if you go when I did, you will pretty much have them all to yourself.
The drinks were okay. I ordered a crown royal on ice (not easy to mess up) and a bloody Mary. Both drinks were $6 each. Maybe it's me, but I there are a ton of cooler, friendlier, and more lively places to enjoy $6 drinks.
I'll keep you guys posted on the Salsa dancing.
There are two aspects to this review because neither was listed:
1) The bar. This place is in a strip mall, so don't expect too much. Still, some guys came dressed in their suits, ladies came in all cute in their night get-ups. The crowd is older, more latino (c'mon, you're in the Valley on a Salsa night). Rose, the waitress, came and I was forced to order a drink, even though I don't drink when I dance salsa (just water). Then, she supposedly told me that there was a $25 minimum on all credit cards (thought the posted sign says it's a $10 minimum). When I closed out my tab, the older gentleman at the bar gave me the stink eye when I told him I was done at one drink. $5 for a virgin bloody mary (which was decent, by the way). Rose also insisted I tip her using cash, which I didn't have. This bar doesn't seem to want people to feel relaxed and wants to earn money by coercing their patrons to purchase drinks, while also having inconsistent policies. I guess it just depends on who you are. This place deserves 2 stars. This place had some nice decorations, a few decent flat screens, and the woman's restroom was decent.
2) Here's how Club Sixty 25 redeemed themselves up to 3 stars: I came on Thursday, Â with Alejandro Sol. $5 for cover, which includes a salsa/bachata lesson. The lesson was pretty decent. There were some male diva dancers that took turns with the ladies, showing off their style. Some other great leads made this a fun night. I enjoyed the music and would come back, despite the awful bar staff. I really like Alejandro Sol's style! The dance floor is kind of small and you might end up dancing on the carpet. The lights also shine into your eyes when dancing, so beware. The set up is a little strange when Alejandro is DJing and another gentleman is standing up there, kind of awkward looking with the hand drums.
**Ladies: beware the tall, white gentleman with shaved head that keeps insisting that you are wrong when dancing with him. I witnessed this guy tell every single girl he danced with how wrong or "off" she was, when he clearly had no rhythm.**
