Great selection of beers, both draft and bottled. I had a Breckenridge Vanilla Porter...yum.
The atmosphere is alright...my cousin lives nearby and has been here many times, with friends, her husband, their daughter, and other family members. To summarize, neighborhood sports bar, but with good beers and a decent selection of beers.
We went here for a late lunch and there were 7 of us. Everyone was pretty satisfied with their food. My dad had teriyaki and jerk wings, I tried one of each, and they were fantastic. My mom had the pulled pork (there's cheese on it, weirdly) and said it was "pretty good". I tried some fried mushrooms (breaded Sysco variety) and oogled my cousin-in-law's steak sandwich...definitely the win of the day. The beef was thin-sliced with nice caramelized onions and very melty cheese.
One massive failure: my (charred, hockey-puck-esque) cheeseburger arrived burnt and without the cheese. It turned into a win for them when the server said "Oh...that's terrible" when I complained, took it back to the kitchen, had it recooked (delicious, juicy, perfect medium the second time around), and also had it taken off our bill. The manager came out to apologize also.
The overall all experience there is an OK one at best. Do just as the name indicates and stick to a Cold Beer and Cheeseburger. Their selection of beer (draft and bottle) is one of good taste, offering some good micro-brew and craft (bottle/draft). As far as the food goes, it really depends on when you go. If you go in the morning as a medium rare to medium fan, don't expect to not get a well done burger that's been "slopped" together. At night, the service is good and other times quite a bit off. It's essentially like going to an adult Chuckie Cheese on a busy night. Very loud and obnoxiously drunk people get a bit carried away and rude sometimes. Other times Ive gone, I've gotten great service and good food and had a great time. It's pretty hit or miss for me right now. They need to work on continually providing a consistent caliber of product.
Review Source:I have limited experience at this place, and it is hard to review because I have been here once and there are some things that I would rate 5 stars (namely the ambiance), but some things that really hurt my enjoyment (the crappy TVs!).
Not to mention that it is a burger place, and I have yet to try the burger. I probably never will, honestly. I did have some wings though, and I was pretty pleased with those. I would go back for them. For me though, it wasn't about the food.
I had a couple beers, and they were cold and promptly served. In fact, the bartender was really nice and very good at his job--both the responsive service parts and the entertaining banter parts.
I am looking forward to go back for a few reasons, but one is that it would be a great place to people watch. It is literally right next to the Dayton bus station, so you get all sorts running through that place: families on bus trips, drunks, if you can dream them, you can see them.
I would love to go back and watch the Superbowl there because of the great atmosphere. I probably won't though. We went to watch a football game, and it wasn't a great place to game watch. The TVs were small and not even HD! I didn't even know it was legal to show football in standard definition anymore!
The place just had an overall low-key environment that I really liked. People were hooting and hollering for their favorite team. I was one of them, and i was rooting for the 'other' team and there were a couple of us. No one seemed to mind. In fact, I think it just helped the banter.
