I'm with, well, everyone on this. Â I loved the vibe, the cheesy furniture, the hole in the wall feel, the glazed eyes of the old guys playing video poker in the back, the kitschy smoking area seating outside, the 1980s hairstyles, a lot of cammo and sports insignias on the locals, and the surprising cleanliness of the place. Â Not clean enough to ruin it's rep, but certainly hygienic enough to linger. Â
I was loving it even more when I took a sip of my first (and second) bloody Mary...homemade, no mix. Â I was adoring it while devouring one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in a long while. Â When the bill for 4 drinks and two burgers came to $20, well, then it was just into the slam the panties on the bar and whoop whoop heaven delight zone. Â
I will be back. Â May actually move in.
Upon arriving at this bar, one would easily assume that it is indeed also a gas station. It is not. Instead, it is a very weirdly shaped long skinny bar that is built of cinder blocks, good times and broken dreams. It is your typical dive bar.
They have karaoke, plenty of seating, a giant fish tank and from what I understand, some fantastic food. People rave about the burgers. The drinks are also well priced and a decent selection available for a gas station bar.
The best part of this joint however are the incredible people that come here. By incredible I mean incredibly entertaining! This is a bit of catch all for the local population. As this is the closest 4am bar, everybody comes. From the creepy old men, the "friendly" women, everybody from high school and everybody in between.
I hope this place and it's strange dive bar decor never goes away.
Looking for a good place to grab a quick drink I found the Cordial Inn on yelp and I was surprised at what I found, probably one of the oldest building on 31st street, in Brookfield it would not surprise me if it dates back to the north gate of the Zoo, it is a very thin yet long building so keep your eyes peeled or you might miss it.
You have to park on the side and walk around to the front door, at some point a foyer was built on to help keep the elements out, I personally think it takes away from the charm of the place but who wants hot or cold outside air blowing on them every time the door opens.
The Clientele were pretty trashy I recall (people wearing 1997 bulls championship shirts) when I 1st walked in, but they where nice people who where regulars and where actually quite pleasant. The wall had some random taxidermy and other things to keep your eyes occupied while you wait. The beer selection on bottle here is really good something like 60 choices on bottle, I wanted to try a random beer I had never tired (hey when in a new place try new things) and the bartender was really good sharing her knowledge about the all the brews, Not long after sitting down the 1997 bulls fans left and a fresh group of regulars came in for lunch they cook and everything right there behind the bar while it did not look like anything really special I have no doubt it is a good old 100% beef American made burger, the kind that Tony Stark would order after spending a few weeks in a cave.
Even though I never order burgers out (I make some pretty sweet burgers at home)when ever I am in the area again I will stop by for a beer and maybe even a burger or some other grub this place is that cool.
Jukebox has always got a nice mix of R&R and country. Â Dig it
Burgers...very basic but truly awesomeness. Try a double if you dare!!
Sometimes it takes a few extra minutes to get a drink, as no one is really moving to fast in this place. Â Good basic beer selection.
Late night the youngins' take over. Â Exercise caution. Â Not my scene.
Last time I was there a regular walked up to the table that me and my two friends were at, slammed down four PBR's and introduced himself. Â I crawled out 4 hours later slightly more mushy than I anticipated. Â The regulars can surprise ya!! Â Good times.
Lord knows I'm familiar with dive bars. Been to many, worked at a few.
This is the real deal.
And it's awesome.
Incredibly comfortable atmosphere, complete with some taxidermy critters on the walls.
Super friendly bartenders (thanks, Nancy!) that give you a genuine smile. So nice after a hard day of the rat race.
You want a burger? A good burger? Don't leave your seat, one will be brought to you. You can watch them cook it!
Clean bathrooms with ample soap and paper towels.
Add to it $2.00 PBR's (take that, you stupid city hipsters), and you've got a perfect way to unwind, even on a budget.
I love me some Cordial Inn.
Please, oh please, never change.
It doesn't get much better than this! Yea, so it is a dive bar but it has the cheeriest, fastest bartenders, best Chicago Bears football atmosphere, and cheap drinks.
My friends live in the area and this is their favorite neighborhood bar. Every time I am in town they take me here and I have never had a bad time. The locals are all very friendly and chatty. Nancy and Gail are the best.
Down side they only accept cash, but they do have an ATM so not too much of a big deal. Not a big food selection and definitely not for vegetarians but if you like meat they put out free hot dogs and roast beef during the football games. They also give you a free raffle ticket during the Bears games and raffle a throwback Bears jersey. Love love love it!
The Cordial Inn: Â A Dive Bar Checklist.
A jukebox with actual CD's opposed to the internet. Â Check.
Cheap beer in pitchers. Â Check.
Take no shit from anyone but still is a sweetheart bartender. Â Check.
Locals hitting on women young enough to be their grandkids. Â Check.
A place that feels like a second home. Â Check.
Not much else to say. Â By far, this place is everything a dive bar should be, and more.
How do I love dive bars? Let me count the ways! There is absolutely nothing fancy about this place at all. It is a dive but they make you feel righ tat home. It is all that I can ask for in a bar. I don;t get out to this area too much but I could easily see myself being a regular here.
Review Source:Hands down the diviest dive bar I've been to in years. Â
An evening spent at The Cordial Inn is a perfect blend of cheap booze and hilarious people watching. Â Aside from our group of ten or so (mostly consisting of late-twenty-somethings), the rest of the bar was filled with a much older, much drunker crowd. Â
There is nothing particularly clean or modern about this place. Â Let's just say those barstools have seen many-a-booty over the years. Â And the worn floors have played platform to hundreds of drunken shuffles, dances and paces to/from the bathroom. Â But all this adds to the character of this dive. Â
In true dive-bar fashion, this bar does not accept credit cards so be sure to mosey up to the bar with cash.
A group of about 10 came here on a Friday night. The bar was loaded with people going through midlife crisises and that's what makes this place fun.
Bar tenders bought our table a pitcher - who does that? Soooo sweet!
Love the darts, jukebox and random 80's video arcade games.
Cheap beer - reminds me of college! Coors Light on tap - love it! I can't believe I haven't been here before!
This is a really nice local neighborhood bar. Â Back when we lived in the city, we used to go to Marge's on Sedgewick. Â This place reminds me a bit of it. Â The drinks are cheap, there's a jukebox and there are tvs. Â We didn't get a chance to sample any food there but we were mezmerized by the $5 steak sandwich written on the menu over the grill. Â BTW, don't ask for a menu, there is none. Â Just the menu over the grill. Â It was a diverse crowd in there, some young folk and some older people. Â Not a bad place to just hang. Â And I heard they have free fresh hot popped pop corn!!
Review Source:I love that this dive bar is full of regulars over 40 every night and you don't have to worry about running into a bunch of drunken frat boys or people you knew in high school.
They serve food, which I'm dying to try on my next visit. Â There's nothin' like greasy bar food cooked on a tiny stove behind the bar!
They also have $1 mystery shots, I mean, is there anything better than that?!
If you go in here knowing what to expect, you will fall in love immediately...over-the-hill patrons, 1980's dive bar decor, wobbly stools and an owner that treats everyone like they are his best friend.
A local dive & low prices plus the best bar burgers at 2am! The juke box adds to the allure of this little gem. I've enjoyed many late nights here with friends.
The bartenders are all great people - really nice. Nancy is our FAVE!
You will see some of the most hilarious and ridiculous people here - it's awesome to sit back and people watch. You're sure to make friends with a 60 year old war vet wearing a Chicago Bears tee circa 1982. Good times!
P.S. Love the White Sox pictures!
This place is some of the best people-watching I've seen at a bar, and quite possibly the best people-watching in the 'burbs. Perhaps that's because it is the ultimate townie bar, a 4am bar next to a gas station that is frequented by a lot of patrons old enough to be the parents (and very possibly grandparents) of the local kids that go here. I saw an older woman in a Ditka sweatshirt circa 1986. You know what I mean. I also saw a cougar (meeeeow!) in a midriff top (I am not kidding you) and a fake bake gettin' her dance on. There's also a guy who brings you popcorn and insists he works there...but he doesn't. He's just there all the time. Kinda like my boyfriend's friends. This is like their place to go...which I am not sure I understand because Ryan's or Brixie's is soooooo much better. but then again maybe it's the allure of not being a high school reunion there. In which case I can't say I blame 'em.
So I used to love this place. Then they got rid of the $1 Schlitz. In fact, they got rid of the Schlitz entirely. EXCUSE ME?????? You just got served...with a few stars knocked off my review. Bring back my Schlitz!!

Not to bust their asses, but I've never gotten my ID checked here. So, you know, not saying I am promoting such behavior here but if you're 20 and wanna go out, maybe you oughta show up for a kiddie cocktail. Just sayin'.
Another tip - if you drive here, and you don't want to stay late, keep an eye on the parking lot. People double park here and make it impossible to get out unless you find the guy in the bar who got you locked in and they are nice enough to move their car.
This is my local bar, and has been for seven years. Others mentioned the grill, but make no mistake - you will get one of the best cheeseburgers you ever had, and for 3 bux, HOT DAMN! The bartenders are super-friendly, and will buy you one if you tip regularly. I didn't think bars did that anymore! If Gail or Nancy is tending bar, you will never have more than a 10 second wait for a beer. Golden Tee is big here, a semi-private room in the back is great for serious Teers.
It's got a strong sports sense without being cheesy about it, and if you feel like it, you can always talk to folks in the bar. I have never seen one bad situation here.
Support this bar with your patronage. You'll be glad you did.
A definite hole in the wall, but a nice quiet place to have a drink.
They are open late 3am on weekdays, and 4am on weekends.
The usual crowd looks like the long time regulars that got there pretty early, and a younger crowd in the later hours. Every now and then a local babseball team will stop up after a game.
The have mini beer tappers that go on the table. I believe it's equal to 2 1/2 pitchers, and great if you have multiple people drinking the same beer, and pretty cheap!
They do have a grill open right behind the bar that your bartender could whip you up anything from a sandwhich to the best burger's ever!
The drinks are absolutely the cheapest I have found around. I ordered a grey goose and cranberry and Im pretty sure it was under $5.
It's a great place to get a drink, chat with the regulars, and maybe catch a game on tv, or play something on the jukebox.
Neighborhood bar that has been here for ages (I remember it when I was a kid in the 60's). Â It caters to two different worlds. Â During the day you have the regulars that have probably been going since forever. Â At night the crowd turns younger.
They have a small char grill where you can get a variety of sandwiches for a very reasonable price. Â Drinks are fair priced as well.
They have recently done updating; flat screen TVs, new paint, windows, etc. Â I hardly recognized the place (inside). Â
One of my favorite "let's go out for a beer and a sandwich" places.
