Not terrible.  It's a hipster/hippy/old Whole Foods pretentious place.  The prices compare to Whole Foods too.  Burgers OK.  Good place at night for live music and a beer.  Some of the employees tend to the surly side. Parties don't always get their food together.  It's not uncommon for your dining companions to finish their meal before your food is delivered.  I just don't like eating at places with average food at a premium price because they're "cool."

So much fun! I've never had a bad meal here. This place is the best to go with co-workers for lunch. Try their sweet potato fries and buffalo burger. Beware that seating is mostly outside unless you want to sit in the picnic bench/bar area.

This is a great place for carnivores and vegetarians alike!!  They offer fish tacos, beef, lamb, bison and veggie burgers, salads, veggies, fries and kids meals that even offer beef or veggie.  I had an egg-ceptional burger and my daughter had a kale salad and green beans.  My burger was one of the best I've ever had- so much flavor and juicy, not dry.  The kale salad and green beans were delicious.  Green beans were served cold with red pepper flakes and garlic.  They have indoor and outdoor seating- we chose to sit indoors and listen to the band.  I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends.

One of my favorite things about The Cove... they have dedicated parking for Motorcycles, Scooter and Bicycles!!

I went to The Cove during my lunch hour; nabbed a spot inside because it was hot/humid out. I ordered the Blue Burger which has bison (yes, bison!), blue cheese, mixed greens, onions, tomatoes and a mildy spicy chipotle mayo spread. It was deeeee-lish! All the flavors balanced perfectly.  The waitstaff (food deliverers?) were friendly as well; however, there are no 'servers'; if you need water, or anything really, you have to get up and take care of it yourself.  My only complaint (-1 star) is that it took a long time for the food to come out- Unfortunately, I only get a 1 hour lunch, and I am assuming the rest of SA gets this as well- if not, where do you work!?

Great spot to grab some good healthy food and a craft beer.  New beer bar out back is fantastic; something for everyone's taste.  The Honey Ale is great and very popular but I would encourage everyone to try a little bit of everything.  Only thing I would recommend is more mist machines out back.  Also, if you are looking to enjoy your brew without interruptions I would recommend going later at night when the families with kids start to leave.

Been coming to the Cove for years since the original car wash, laundry mat, restaurant and bar; and have seen this place expand.  Love the new layout.

An exceptional place owned and ran by exceptional people.  This place has the best vibe. Where else is your dog and kids welcome? The very definition of family friendly.  The music is comfortable, the food is  modern.  How else to describe great taste with healthy good for you good for the environment top quality food.  The owners are often on site to greet and make the crowd feel welcome. The energy here is wholesome and is a just plain feel good environment. Nirvana for your stomach. I have brought out of towners here several time and they all want to try the lamb burger.  Each time they say it is the best damn, lamb burger they have ever tried and my visiting friends have been around the world. Intelligent, sublime the menu is not very large and pretty simple but by keeping it simple it is easier to keep everything at top grade.  They grind their own meat for the burgers all the food is organic and local. Best place to go have a beer or glass of wine sit back and relax to some feel good easy on the ears live music and let the kids play.

Love the ambiance here. I grew-up in Austin. This restaurant has a great nostalgic feel for me. Combo restaurant focusing on serving natural, locally grown foods, laundromat, bar, playground, and stage for local bands to showcase their talents, the cove is a one-stop shop for a day of hanging out, eating, relaxing and doing some chores. Parking can be tricky at times, but they try to overcome this by having someone direct traffic on busy nights. My personal favs on the menu are the fish tacos, shrimp tacos (Watch out! These can be a bit spicy!), and the '09er burger. Their highest rated burger is the Texas Burger with tortilla chips, refried beans, cheese and some other familiar ingredients. I liked this one, but it was a little bland. WIth feta cheese, the '09er has a little more zing. But try them both and see for yourself! Love coming here and will probably continue to be a regular when I'm in San Antonio.

Bring an umbrella for the misters. The fish tacos are amazing!!! Sweet potato fries are good, and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time!

Great Place, doesn't look like much from the outside.  Went here because of the DDD with the whole family.  Ordering is a little overwhelming your first time, especially if you are like my mother who likes to study the menu.  Lots of local items, daily specials, and gluten free options.  You can take a "meat and potatoes guy" like my dad and my try everything sister and everyone will be happy.

We ate inside near the music area in the bar section.  Very disjointed flow, but food is great.  Play area for kids, large party area out back, laundromat and car wash attached.

Cool spot. Like the location and looks to be a a great place for live music. Food was mediocre. Restrooms looked and smelled like I was on Dirty 6th in ATX. insie and outside bar. A lot of beer on tap.

Went on a Sunday, parking was close, nice staff I always like establishments that don't mind tattoos on their employees, I had the Real Burger (I believe that was the name) also had the chips and hot sauce, I loved that they had Maine sodas, they are so good, girlfriend had the Vegan Bacon Cheeseburger, chips and salsa were great, both our orders came out just right and hot, fries were amazing too I will definitely be going back.

Without a doubt in my mind, The Cove is my favorite restaurant. I say this with complete, and utter confidence too as I am wearing my red "The Cove" shirt with the fish logo.

I love everything about this place, from the laid back vibe, the little car wash the place was attached to, the live music, the variety of people, the park, the ping pong table, EVERYTHING. And of course the food!

The Cove serves the best sweet potato fries I have ever had, and I always get them along with the delicious lamb burger. It's nice to find a restaurant where everyone is so happy and lively, and the live music never disappoints.

Go to the Cove and eat happy.

Eating at the Cove was one of the most fun experiences dining out I've had. Hold on to your seats - this could be a long one. Bottom line up front: Eat here if you get a chance; don't give it a second thought.

I'm not from the area, and took an interesting route getting to the restaurant. Pulled into a parking lot, about to turn on my GPS, in the general area because it started lightly raining. Somehow, managed to pull into the right lot [or at least into the lot of the laundromat]; called it a good sign.

Not really sure how else to describe the experience, since it was a little on the surreal side, but here goes:

Part I: the Ordering Vestibule. Smaller area, with a grill behind. Had a small wait, but absolutely nothing horrible, considering the 8 or so people in front of me. Ordered my burger [the EggCeptional], paid my bill. Got a number.

Part II: the Outside. Had asked the waitress where I could get some beer; got an explanation that bottled beers were in the bar around the corner, tap beers were at the bar outside. Huh. Okay. I'm used to places where everything is in one area, but I can hang. Outside is pretty cool - a smaller patio, with the inside bar to the right. Then straight ahead there is a big area - including a good size kids' play set - and an outside bar.

Part III: the Bar. I knew where I was destined, once I saw it. Maybe 50 [around there?] taps. A ton of local stuff -- BONUS POINTS. Got a sample of some Ranger Creek, then got a full pour, then grabbed a table. Let me note there were maybe 8 people in the bar area, including a guy with a dog [more bonus points - they have a dog run next to the bar -- how awesome is that??]. Drank my beer, waited for my food.

Part IV: the Flood. All of a sudden, it started dumping. Dog guy goes running off. I think I'm used to the tamer weather where I'm from, but I mean, it was nuts. A ton of the outside area, covered by a mesh fabric, was letting water through. The bar area, covered by something solid, was not. Was nice to sit there, mostly out of the rain, drinking my beer. I see dog guy running back, with a couple trays. Turns out it's my food, and he's an employee. Hey, that works. He sits down, soaked, after giving me my burger. A kid at the next table asks to pet his dog; they start talking about dogs. Another employee suggests I should move, since the gravelly area we are sitting in has started to fill up with water.

Part V: the FOOD IS AWESOME. SO AWESOME. I'm so glad I ordered what I did, although I have no doubt anything else I could've ordered would have been just as great. The egg was perfect. The meat was flavorful. The beer washed it all down well. Sitting there in the pouring rain / some sort of flash flood [complete with thunder and lightning], eating a burger and drinking a beer in a strange city. From my perspective it's hard to top that, as far as eating goes.

So, this was long winded. And I doubt I would have another experience like this in the future. But I bet ANY experience I could have here in the future would most likely be great. So much so that I'm strongly considering going back tomorrow. Long story short: EAT AT THIS PLACE. The food is excellent. The people are nice. The beer list is thorough. Really glad I came here tonight. Thank you, the Cove. You made this visit to San Antonio an especially great one.

The Cove has become a go to for a quick burger fix. It has a great laid back vibe to it. Usually there is some sort of live band playing. Plus there is a small playground to keep the kiddos entertained. O and a huge bar in the back with a vast number of beers on tap. As for the food it is delicious. The bison burger when available is a must try and is so yummy. The sweet potato fries are probably the only sweet potato fries I have ever liked. The nachos are smothered with cheese!  And the whole sustainable, organic food route makes it healthy for you right? The parking can be terrible at times. Although it is a laundry mat, car wash, restaurant and probably a number of other things I am not aware of.

I'm really glad I finally tried this place before leaving San Antonio! The food was very good and actually good for you! I try and eat low-carb and the chicken salad was perfect and unique (not like some chicken salad I could have ordered at a regular casual dining establishment).  The atmosphere was unique with mismatched chairs, it was cute for a casual weeknight date.

I often feel like a needle in a haystack reviewing places that have hundreds - literally, hundreds - of reviews here on Yelp.  However, I feel I must (quickly) attest to what the masses here are saying: Want fish tacos? Go to The Cove.

Yes, there are many reasons to appreciate this diamond in the rough.  I mean, for starters, it's a sustainable/organic/local/vegan-vegetarian-offering restaurant in a neighborhood notorious for having only the opposite: national fast-food chains.

I've been here three times this month (a record, since moving to S.A. two years ago), and here's what I recommend:

    The Sampler.
So... you're a little overwhelmed... not quite sure with what to please your taste buds.  Order the sampler. It's a fish taco, a shrimp taco and a heaping serving of a fresh spinach/mushroom/red onion mix salad on the side.  $10/11.

    The Vegan Burger.
This is shut-the-front-door good. Brown rice patty, tofu bacon, cashew "cheese", vegan mayo.  Eeeeeee!! $9  The whole-wheat bun tasted so, so delicious. Fresh.

Also, I picked up a copy of Natural Awakenings magazine and apparently once-a-month they have a completely vegan night where you can sample some newest, greatest vegan cuisine. Killer, dude.

They have beer on tap - mainly all local/regional, plenty of live music, all outdoor seating and friendly service.  Yes, parking can be tricky.  Lot of about two-dozen spaces gets filled quickly.  I have not heard of any horror towing stories, but always double-check the street signage before parking on the nearby streets.

I'm done. Go to The Cove.
Oh yeah, this place also has an on-side laundromat. And a car wash. Boom.

I can't say I've sampled a lot of food here, but the lentil soup and fish tacos were pretty good.  A bit under-seasoned for me, but tasty.

I haven't returned after my first impression of the place.  Despite their reputation as a healthy places to get organic food, I felt like I was eating in an alley.  Or a Goodwill donation station.  The outdoor patio is a bunch of metal and plastic benches on a blacktop surrounded by a chain-link fence.  The tiny, indoor bar section of the place was so loud and crowded, I couldn't even bring myself to go inside to check out the live music.  And all this is next to a plastic playground.

The experience was strange and unpleasant.  It's just difficult to enjoy a meal of pricey, locally-sourced food while you're scrambling to keep a roll of paper towels from blowing off your stained picnic table onto the asphalt next to the garbage can.

A wonderful local joint that serves sustainable, organic food. The burgers are tasty and worth eating again and again. For the beer aficionado, there is a great selection of different brews-both on tap and in bottles. The crowd and vibe outside is always fun and the live music inside enjoyable.

This is place we like to take guests or just meet up with friends. A laid-back establishment we enjoy visiting often.

The Cove is an interesting little joint. There is an indoor area for live music and a bar. There is a larger outdoor bar and a playground and lots of outdoor seating as well. I had the vegan bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries, both of which were very good. The burger patty kept falling apart though. I've tried the fish and the shrimp tacos, I haven't had anything I didn't like. I'd recommend going during the afternoon for a casual late lunch so it isn't so busy.

An excellent "dive" that serves organic and sustainable food.  Very glad that I gave it another shot because our first experience was less than stellar!  Soggy quesadilla, overcooked burger (which to their credit they took back and gave me another one)..but really good fries!

Based on a friends insistence we went again and had an outstanding time with food, music and decent beer all coalescing together.  Now its part of the Saturday staple.

Excellent fries (can be slightly soggy at times ..but still good), burgers and cooked very well and the naked burger is the perfect combination of nice meaty chunks balanced with the slightly bitter freshness of the spring salad mix, earthy mushrooms all serving as a fabulous accompaniment to the Storm King stout. The lentil stew is always excellent and so are the hummus, quinoa salad and veggie burgers.  The fish taco's are good but have not been impressive the 3 times I have tried them but hey...that is easily forgiven when the rest of the food is always good.  They run out of specials fast so be prepared to be disappointed if you get there late.  had incredibly good green beans sauteed with garlic and finished with lemon zest!  Crisp tender beans, the slight pungency of garlic and heat from crushed pepper and the zingy brightness of the zest! Perfect summer food!!

The only gripe is that they have moved all their taps outside and only serve in plastic glasses!!!  I asked if I could bring my own glass in and was told no.  So now I stick to drinking bottled beers sitting inside. They also have weird substitution charges at times.  BBQ burger special : could I get a veggie patty? Sure... $2 extra...so that would have made it a $14.00 veggie burger!  ..oh we...lll

Definitely a place to chillax, down a few, let your senses be assailed my the band or at times screaming kids and strike up conversation with the friendly folks who hang out there.

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our lunch and the waitstaff is so friendly and pleasant!
We had lamb and bison burgers and sweet potato fries that were the best we have ever eaten. A also had the lentil soup- it was delicious and! more tasty than my home made version! We took 2 desserts to go- a brownie with walnuts and a slice of jalapeño carrot cake, both were divine. Also had the sweet potato custard which was delish!!
They are also committed to sustainable food and do it so well.  We will be back!

I love eating here  - it makes me happy! 09er with the veggie pattie is my favorite, it's hard to order anything else. Such a great place for vegetarians.

I love being outside, minus the flies (obviously not their fault!)

I get take out a lot here as well and they are very fast. I've never been disappointed. I think the worst experience I had was that I got a to-go order with the sweet potato fries instead of the regular like I asked, not a big deal!

I wish they had a drive-thru to pick up to go orders!
The only downside is the line on friday nights

**Beware - you may be used to the fries automatically coming with the burger, but now they have made it something you have to ask for - same price - but a side of salad or fries .. it now comes default without a side.

I have to take off 2 stars, because they have changed and narrowed the menu down to just burgers and fish tacos. They got rid of the soups, and sandwiches. Which were the only things my wife liked. Instead of remodeling and improving the dining area; they added another bar in the back by the patio. So, parents can get more drunk; while their kids play on the playground. As if they really needed to drink more. Sorry I'm just not into the whole "get drunk in public while your kids play" scene. I'm a Grown Ass Man. When I was growing up doing things like this would get you labeled as a drunk. These days it cool and normal for your kids to see you brew it up. In short The Cove is now just another burger place and watering hole. I don't know when I will return 2 stars.

There are SO many reasons to love The Cove.

The food is amazing. It is all sustainable, organic, and local. They are known for their fish tacos, and hell, they should be. Those tacos are so damn good. But give the burgers a try too. Don't forget, it's all grass-fed beef :) Are you paleo or primal like me? Don't hesitate to order your burger on a bed of greens. They will not bat an eye. Yay.

Take your food outside to get some fresh air,  and to take a look at the Cove's on-site, organic garden. Holy crap, they're taking 'locally sourced' very seriously :) Not to mention, the exhaustive selection of Texas beers on tap at the outside bar. Or cozy up inside and listen to some great live music on Wednesdays.

The cove puts on some awesome events too. Every 4th Thursday they have a beer tasting night - 5 beers with chips and salsa for 5$. Every 4th Wednesday they have wine tasting night - 5 wines and a food pairing plate for 10$. Plus, every Wednesday is Jazz night. Serious date night potential, people. ;)

Far too busy during weekend brunch. 90 minutes for a mediocre burger and soggy fries is not my idea of great. Live music was fun, but otherwise such a disappointment.

Fortunately, I am forgiving. I will try again another time.

Fabulous local hangout for great quality food- they're big on local, sustainable, organic, and all that trendy crap, but make food that is delicious and accessible to all without being overly fussy.
Great beer selection, good desserts that run out fast, and the best burgers- I've heard their fish tacos are to die for, but I always seem to succumb to the burgers.
The bison and lamb burgers are the best- the meat is clearly of high quality, and they are cooked to perfection, thick patties that are not overdone. Toppings are always fresh and perfectly complement the subtle flavors of the individual meat.
I have tried a few soups here, and they can be a little hit or miss- usually they need salt.
The sweet potato fries here are decent, but not really anything to write home about- the sauces that your fries come with are downright delicious though.
As the summer makes its way back, keep this place on your list of unique and fun healthy dining options! Great beer specials, live music, and patio seating for the whole family.

Got here about 10 minutes before they opened and was the third person in line.  By the time they opened there were at least 25 people in line.  Started with the chips and salsa which were very tasty, spicy Salas, but not so hot you cannot eat and like spicy.  I had the Beaman BBQ burger. It was really good, juicy, and messy.  Everything a burger should be.  I was pretty disappointed in the sweet potato fries; not hot, not crispy, just not very good.  The beer selection made up for this.  at least 30 on draft plus many more bottle.  If I did it all over again, I would skip the SP fries and more chips and salsa.

Big plus that I could bring my dog, but there were tons of kids there. Many, many children.

This place was awesome and unique, and they had the very BEST salsa and fresh chips of any place we dined during our visit to San Antonio. On the spicy side, we ordered six small containers to go and snacked on tem with chips until every drop was gone!  The fish tacos were delish, we loved the fresh garden, the playground, table tennis, and being we were half way through our trip, the laundymat onsite was very convenient! We went for lunch, wish we had gone back for dinner and the live entertainment!

I saw other compaints about the sweet potato fries, and yes they were very soft (not cripy at all), but I enjoyed them all the same.

Absolutely one of my favorite spots when I go home. It's a fantastic farm-to-table place, Texas-style! You can have a beef burger, a bison burger, a chicken burger, and even a veggie burger. You have a great selection of sides and drinks. Live music and a super cool atmosphere that is quintessential San Antonio.

    Why only 4 stars? PARKING. It's a b.

For lunch or dinner, this is a great place for burgers and fish tacos for both the taste and sustainability of ingredients.  Good selection of beer and decent wines.

I have not had good experiences trying to have a party here.  On two separate occasions, I tried to call them to find out about have parties (one would be separate tickets for around 25 people, the other would be one ticket for 60 people).  I called multiple times and left messages with people who swore that they'd call me back, but it never happened.

So, go to this place for dinner, but do not try to plan a party here.

This place is really special -- very family friendly, but still manages to maintain a divey bar feel inside. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Live music. Great vibe.

And the food! A menu that started years ago as just burgers and fries has evolved to include a bunch of veggie-friendly options, and uses local and organic ingredients whenever possible. Almost everything I've had is good there. They still serve a wonderful burger. I especially love the shrimp tacos.

Renowned for appearing on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives," The Cove serves up delicious fare using local ingredients. I tried the lamb burger since many reviews raved about it, but it didn't live up to my expectations. The patty was dry and bland, and the portion size was somewhat small considering the price tag. I did enjoy my free yelp check-in offer of sweet potato fries though-crisp and packed with flavor, this portion size was huge and enough for two people to share. I also discovered Abita root beer (from New Orleans) here, which now rivals IBC root beer for my heart.

Parking is somewhat limited and expect a long line around lunch time.  Service is quick and friendly, and my food was out in about ten minutes.  I'll be back to try their famed fish tacos!

A perfect spot, in the perfect setting, for hanging out, enjoying a brewski, and nomming delicious foods!
Something I love about San Antonio, is the restaurants who force you to be a social person. They have these giant tables, and you get to cozy up with strangers. I love it!

It's easy to get tripped up the first time you come here. There is no real waitstaff, so you must find the kitchen/ordering area yourself. You will know when you find this, and no, it's not in the bar area.
But, if you did find the bar first, why not grab a beer? Order an Abita, because you want a buzz before your food comes, and Louisiana knows alcohol content.
If the bar you are at is outside, you haven't found the stage area yet. The bar you are at is their new bar! Cool, you are one of the first to get a drink here! But go check out the other bar area with a stage, chances are there's some badass performance going on.
When your decision making skills are at their peak, as most are after a few 6% beers, find that menu. It's time to test your balance in case you have to drive home later!

Aw yea, there's a line out of the door... now you got time to decide. Have a smartphone? Get on the internet and read that menu. As your line moves closer, look to the right of the register for two or three signs displaying their specials.

Shit, can't decide between all this SOL (sustainable, organic, local) fare?

Here are my food suggestions, in a very particular order:
    SWEET POTATO HASH.
If you are thinking of going to The Cove, go now and order this. Unless you hate sweet potatoes, bacon, and fried eggs. Then you should stay very far away from that plate.

    Blue Bison Burger (ommmmn nooooooom)
Texas Burger (ask for it Spicy)
    Veggie Burger (so much deliciousness)
Latin Lover (lamb burger, small, but FLAVOURFUL)
    Bean & Cheese Nachos
    Avocado & Spinach Salad
    FRIES (I love fries.)

Take your number and wait patiently. It's so worth it!

If you like waiting, this is the best place in town! I have eaten here a few times, mostly during the off hours. But I can say that I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not even close to capacity, and if you count from the time I got in the huge line till I saw my food it was over an hour. Had I not paid first I would have walked out. In my opinion, if I wanted cool good food served and prepared by the weirdest kids in town while listening to live music, I could drive to Austin and get the same experience in less time out of my day.
-food was good, just don't go if it is nice outside I guess. Or take your laundry or car to wash while you wait for your food.

The Cove is one of those places that makes you love living downtown (or close to it). Its got great food that is, in their own words, sustainable, organic and local. Ingredients are all sourced in Texas and right by the door they've got a huge chalkboard telling you where everything is from. The more you know, right?

But seriously, the sheer amount of Texas here is amazing. The meat? Texan. The Veg? Texan. The sodas? Texan (from Austin even though you'd think Maine Root would be from Maine). The brand new tap wall? 35 taps of pure Texan ambrosia.

The food is simple. I'm a bigger fan of their burgers (especially the lamb and bison-blue cheese burgers) than their fish tacos. Also, the sweet potato fries are tasty as heck, even if they never seem to be crispy.

Parking can be a bit of a pain when its busy, don't park in the tile store's parking lot. There's a parking lot just behind the green house on Jackson street. And if you prefer to arrive on two wheels, there's a large area right in front reserved for bikes.

Great lunch spot. I had the "Lisa Special" which was two fish tacos and their signature spinach salad. My only complaint would be that the spinach leaves should have been torn or cut; they were a little on the large side which made it slightly difficult to eat. The fish tacos were really great, you could actually taste the fish because it didn't have any breading on it.

They have a small garden in the back that had herbs and other items for restaurant use; gotta love that freshness!

Service is quick and food is served on these unique metal trays line with paper.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's hipster, it's fun, it's laidback, and I love that they are sustainable, organic, and locally grown! I'm also vegetarian, so I love that I can get any of their yummy burgers sub veggie patty (: They also support local musicians and have live music!

I finally tried their 'shroom & spinach quesadilla with sweet potatoes fries...OMGGGGGG SO GOOD!
