Despite having a pretty terrible experience not too long ago my friend sucked it up and took me to Cowboys on a Saturday night.  It was super cold out, she thought this might be the reason for the unusually small crowd.  The multiple levels was perfect for a people watcher (borderline creep, I know) like me.  It was fun watching the people dance down below.  Not everyone was Sissy and Bud status so that was encouraging should I ever get up the nerve to dance.
The bartender on the 3rd floor had a difficult time remembering things, gave me a Long Island instead of the Long Beach that I ordered but he made up for it when my shot of Fireball was free.  My friends experienced a bit of the same but it was a minor annoyance, nothing you can't shake off.
I don't smoke anymore but my friends do and the smoke deck is right outside the bowling/karaoke area.  If you sit at the bar you get a good bit of heat from inside.  People were friendly, not sleezy at all.  Being new to Colorado it was nice to find a place that wasn't so, so different from home.  A bit far to be my new "Cheers" but I'll be back, I'm sure of it.

This is my first time going to Cowboys. I have always been a little apprehensive about going, because i'm just not the biggest fan of country music. The atmosphere was so fun! People were always on the dance floor, whether it be with a partner or just doing a line dance, I even got out there and danced! Even though I had no idea what I was doing, everyone was really friendly and understanding. I was so impressed i am going to take the classes they offer on Sundays! Super fun place!

For my 1st time in Colorado, what's not to like about this place on a Friday night??

    #1 Country Music!! :)
    No cover before 9pm

    1st Floor:
    *Huge Dance floor
*Gentlemen asking if I'd like to dance, not just humping my back without notice.
    *Bar!!

    2nd Floor:
    *Pool tables
    *Bars!!
*Friday Nights $10 bottomless mini pitchers of beer on tap from 9pm-12am. Tip: Don't be wasteful and keep your pitcher in-site and reuse it when you refill. ("Christmas-Tree-Josh" stole 1 of mine. Bad behavior.)
*Smoking Patio (I don't smoke, but it wasn't too bad hanging out there)

    3rd Floor
I think there's a bar, but by the time I made it up there I didn't need one.
    *Karaoke!!
    *Smoking Patio with heating lamps
    *Bowling (Looked like fun!)

There's a lot to do, so if you find yourself not having fun, you're not trying!!

I love good old country nightclubs and this is not one. It does have great potential with a lot of work and some dedication. Cowboys is a three story club. It has a great layout with plenty of bars everywhere. The first floor has a large dance space, it looks like a race track to me because there are pillars in the middle of it. The second over looks the floor and is pretty much a walkway with a few bars here and there. Really useless. On the third floor is there is a bowling alley and a small dance floor, sometimes used for karaoke. The music is very little country except in the early part of the night. When I made a request the DJ was rude and did not even hear it. The people there are judgmental and rude. I will only go if I need a country fix but even then I think dancing in my backyard would be better. I really hope a better country nightclub opens soon because they could give this place a run for their money. Time to scope out Copperhead I believe.

well, to start with, this is not the same cowboy's as was once located on palmer park near academy.  same owner and all, but totally, totally different atmosphere and mostly different crowd than i fondly remember.
this location is smaller, and draws a lot more club-hoppers, whom also tend to be habitual drunkards and brawlers too.

i suppose if you need your fix of twang, or just like to people watch, then its more than adequate.  i'd recommend the 2nd level then.  ...unless you hate being in cajun-style mugginess.

as for dancing...its ok!  the floor is not terribly small, just a lot smaller than the previous incarnation.  also it has those darned poles.  add to this that it seems only a handful understand or practice dance floor etiquette..
well, let's also not forget the young, dumb and full of...drunk crowd comes in about 10:30, which drives all of the skilled dancers (and there are some VERY skilled dancers...students of 4-time UCWDC world champion, kristin geil-ham) off the floor and out of the place.
so if you want to do any REAL country western or swing dancing, better get there early (think 7pm, or even 6pm) on a friday evening...coz they bail around 10pm.
if you're a drunken stumbler, then please show up up around 11pm, so you would look so silly and foolish.  ;)

thursday nights there's free salsa lessons and dancing.

saturday nights is country, but unless you bring your own partner, you might be SoL...coz it tends to be very much a couples night here along the front ranges.
i will say that james alternates as DJ (every other saturday) and does a pretty good job.  he loves the music, and is also a skilled dancer.

there are free dance lessons on sunday evenings, if FREE is what you want..

the crowd is pretty diverse, which is great for people watchers and city folk...but not so good for the country crowd.

as for the drinks.  the price is fair, and they tend to be strong.
they also do drink specials throughout the night too...but no barber chair shots.  ;)

also if you come in before 9pm, you'll pay no cover...which is nice for those of us only staying a couple hours to dance...just get your hand stamped before you leave, if you're planning on coming back.  also, after midnight, the cover is lifted.
fridays are always the busy night at cowboy's...and i'll usually be there at some point.

so, i've been in better places, as well as worse places...and this one's par for the course.

ps-karaoke is on 3rd floor...previous room was not soundproof enough that drunks on the mic didn't offend the ears of those not tone-deaf.  ;)

We were at Cowboys on Friday, May 6th.  I wanted to check it out as I love country music and line dancing, but I was a little disappointed.  I didn't see much line dancing going on.  It was mostly couples dances.  Maybe it was because it was only 7PM, but we stayed until 9:30 and it didn't change much.

I am from San Diego so I was looking forward to learning some new dances out in The Springs.  In Cahoots where I dance in San Diego has free lessons every night except on Mondays when they're closed.  Cowboys only has lessons on Sundays.

The food and drinks were very well prices though.  I had the Steak Dinner and my husband had the fried mushrooms and the bill only came to like $13.  He was shocked when he went to order beer and it was 2 beers for $5.

The top floor has a bowling alley.  By the time I got up there, my friends were already done and were waiting for Karaoke to start!  All in all it seems to be a great place to hang out w/ a bunch of your friends.  There are pool tables on the 2nd floor where they have Karaoke.  I didn't see the room for Karaoke, but it must have been enclosed because I didn't hear anyone singing either.  You can see the dance floor from the 2nd floor which is nice.

I'd try it again as they have a nice big dance floor.  I'd also love to try their dance lesson next time I'm in town.

This was a decent bar. I'm not really partial to 18 + clubs but it was ok. The music was ok (lots of variety). Here are the facts...

-Security.Security went a bit overboard (literally saw a guy being bodyslammed and choked out at the entrance). The guy was giving them lip but come on...
-Drinks.There were free drinks until midnight with a $10 cover and the bartenders were quick and weren't stingy with the liquor. Even after the free drink period was over the shots were only $4-$5. not bad...
-Music - It was decent. Not great but whatevs...
-Atmosphere - everyone was pretty friendly. Very low-key. Not an uppity place and the dress code was pretty lax.

Basically - It'll be fun if you come with the right people. The people make or break the place in this instance.

The bar tenders were extremely rude and the quality of food and drinks is very very poor. On the night they serve all you can drink for ten dollars it's less than an OZ of extremely cheap alcohol that most can't even find in liquor stores. I would not recommend wasting your time at this establishment. I gave it three tries and they never seemed to improve.

i honestly don't know why i like this place.  i very much dislike country music.  i dislike paying cover although after midnight cover is waived.  i guess i'm usually many beers in and pullin out the beta version of my next big dance move.  i like how this bar is large and plenty of room on the dance floor to do something nice.

Why did I come here!  Not bad I guess.  Large dance floor and decent country music if that's what you're into.  I enjoyed watching my friend hit on girls while on business here.  I unfortunately, had no desire to talk to the girl's behemoth friend.  I am a bad WINGMAN!

Cowboy's Downtown is a cool spot to shoot a few games of pool, have a beer, and do some awesome people watching.  Pool tables are on the upper mezzanine level, and it's fun to watch the line dancing madness on the dancefloor below.  The crowd is a mix of ages, and everyone from cowboys and cowgirls to off-duty soldiers to college kids seems to hang here.

Good times, cheap beers, friendly servers.  Do it.
