I stopped here for lunch at about quarter to two. You can seat yourself, and when I went the two ladies who were serving were helpful and fairly friendly. Neither of them came off as fake (madly cheerful or somehow sarcastic) like some workers in the service industry do. The food came before long - a cheeseburger and fries - and was still hot. I was very satisfied with the taste and freshness of the meal.
My only complaint is that my total was two bucks more than expected because that's how much it cost to add lettuce and tomato to my burger - which the waitress had asked me about doing, but she'd failed to mention the high charge (I'd been prepared for a small fee for the veggies but I've never had it be a full dollar per item). What started out as a good deal - $6.50 or so for the food - became a regular-priced meal. I don't feel ripped off but it's kind of a bummer when you think you're going to spare your wallet a little pain and wind up spending just as much as usual.
All in all, I don't blame them but will certainly factor toppings into my bill calculations next time. The place is near my work, so while I have several other options in the area, I've liked the food at Cross Park F.R. the best and will likely return. They had some sweet-looking cakes I had to pass on because a slice would've been almost as much as my pre-topping meal price. Might go for some chocolatey chocolate death next time.
Ordered a shrimp alfredo during lunch and paid 13 bucks for it. The dish was utterly disappointing, cooked with tiny tiny pre-packaged shrimps you get from walmart; looked nothing like how it was presented in their menu. Their portion is enough to feed me for the entire day, but I was looking for quality instead of quantity for a 13 dollar lunch. The alfredo dish alone is creamy enough, so it was unnecessary in my opinion to cover the entire dish with a layer of cheddar cheese on top of the noodles ...
Review Source:A fairly decent "family restaurant" that serves up the classic menu items from full breakfasts and Burgers to Fish-frys and a changing selection of specials offered for dinner. Mostly it has a standard menu of fried and grilled choices.
The place is clean and service is prompt and friendly. Â Most meals are are in the $10-12 range with drinks and sides. Certainly one of the better options for this stretch of Route 31 and Newark.
Stopped in for lunch on a Lenten Friday. My buddy had the fish sandwich, good to average according to him. I had the Fried Clams, which were o.k. but I wouldn't recommend them as the were very small and overly battered with little clam flavor at all. The french fries are o.k., not quite steak fries but with some substance of potato to them. The cole slaw was o.k. to good as well.
The place is popular, especially at lunch time. On prior visits, I have had the cheeseburger here before and it to is good to o.k. - One thing that has been consistent is that our orders were served up fast and still warm.
