Growing up my friends and I would travel all over to try different Chinese Buffets. Â We never had one in Newark though until a couple years ago when this place opened up. Â It was awesome for the first few months as it was always busy, served the best food around and had so many choices of food. Â Now, it's probably one of the worst around. Â
I went here last week only because it was snowing A LOT outside and the roads were a little too unsafe to make the trip to Geneva. Â I was hoping for them to have crab legs but they didn't. Â The food wasn't very fresh and not fresh "chinese" food is gross. Â I still ate it though and filled up. Â The good thing is the prices, lunch is only $6.25 which is what I'd probably pay for a container of the same from any other place. Â Also they now have Turkey Hill ice cream and it's as much as you want so it's good to just go there for that. Â
Overall I hope to not go back anytime soon and I wish they'd get more business just so that their food quality will improve.
Ahh, China Buffet. I don't care what it's really called, it's just another China Buffet. This place fits the bill, but there are some exceptions given the location of the place. The food is par for the course, the decorum typical (giant glowing pictures, huge gaudy waterfall castles, waving golden cats), but the one thing that is different is there is literally nothing else around this place to eat, so, the masses (pun very much intended), come in droves to the NY Great Wall Buffet.
Moral of the story:
If you are around Newark ,NY for some reason and can't drive anymore and just have to eat something in a mass quantity, go here and observe while you eat.
Questionable practice:
most China Buffets have ice cream of some sort, usually a soft serve machine. This place has a scoop-your-own-out-of-tubs operation that is highly questionable given how many mitts dip in and our of the tubs. Knuckle scraping has to occur....just saying.....your ice cream will be prefisted.
