I don't know why my BMX racing friends wanted to come here, but they did, so I went. Â Maybe it was more fun when they were young and were getting wasted, but stopping in around 7 p.m. for dinner was not the best idea.
Nice bar, pool tables, okay food. Â
Come here to hang out and drink.
Had an above average experience at Danny O's in Shelton. Â Despite the numerous reviews about the bartenders being surly, I found them to be reasonably polite and efficient. Â Came here to meet up with some old high school friends and the place was jam-packed but I was still able to meander through the crowd to the bar and order my drinks in good time. Â
Living in the city, I am accustomed to overpriced drinks but at $5 a pop here, it felt like a steal. Â Wouldn't mind coming back again for another high school reunion.
What's good about Danny O's:
The Venue: Come on, a two-story bar with a retractable roof? That's cool. You probably wouldn't appreciate a place like this if you're over 40, but for those of us that haven't reached the age of reason yet, you'll enjoy the multiple environments Danny O's offers. Plenty of TVs too.
The Food: Solid pub fare. Good nachos and wings.
The Bartenders: Sorry OSHA, but Danny O's exclusively employs hot young women. Nothing wrong with that at a place like this!
What's bad about Danny O's:
The drink prices: They're not totally outrageous, but come on, this is SHELTON, not West Hartford. Can a brother get a drink special?
The crowd: as has been uttered in a dozen previous reviews, "It's The Valley." Need I say more? Bring enough friends to drown out the riff raff, or you'll be sorry.
There's probably no better place for a night out in Shelton, but that's not saying much :). Archie Moore's accross the bridge in Derby is good too, but I'd rather go here.
I've visited this dump twice, and had miserable experiences both times. Where do I begin? Crappy service, over-priced drinks? While I agree with the others about the poor food quality and dirty conditions, my big gripe is with the staff - specifically the bartenders. I've never been treated so rudely in my life than I have at this hole. I guess the policy is to treat regulars well, and treat everyone else like garbage. Great business strategy Danny O. You must really have no idea of how much revenue you've lost because of your staff alone.
Like the others have stated - avoid this place at all costs.
DO NOT drink from the bar! Unless you want glasses with lipstick and chapstick markings still on it from the customers before. I had to exchange the glass FOUR (4) times until I got one that was clean. It's absolutely disgusting. I watched one of the bartenders just dip one of the used glasses into water and then put it back on the shelf. The prices are ridiculously high for a crappy looking bar of this kind. 10 dollars for a hamburger on a bar menu? PLEASE. I'd stay far away unless you want to eat crappy over priced food, and gain some sort of disease from the terrible hygiene this place seems to contain with their glassware. God only knows what goes on in the kitchen...
Review Source:This is as good as it gets for the Valley for a college crowd. Â The food is okay bar food, and the drinks are reasonably priced. Â Just watch out for a couple regular creepy older dudes that like to come in and troll for college girls. Â Good thing the place is big enough you can usually just move to a different area.
Review Source:I like Danny O's. It's a fun place to drink, and grab a bite in Shelton. Good place to watch the game. I don't know Shelton well, but my guess is that Danny O's is one of the better establishments. The drinks are dirt cheap. My tab is usually no more than $25 for several hours of hanging out. One thing I dislike about Danny O's is this stupid old timer bouncer, who always tells people to finish their beer 45 minutes prior to closing, because they are trying to clear the place out. He is annoying about it, coming over to the table every 10 minutes to tell you to drink faster. I hope he gets audited by the IRS and cant locate past returns or something shitty that old people dislike. If you are looking for a good place to hang out in Shelton, Danny O's downtown is good, and also TailGators across the river in Derby.
Review Source:For the valley, this is a decent place. The food is good and the service is always friendly. Drinks are generally strong and I don't usually have a problem finding a seat. I swear though, I always run into someone I know when I go here! The outdoor seating is nice in the summer, especially when it tends to get more crowded! Try the nachos...they are pretty darn good.
Review Source:I used to come here every Thursday night for karaoke in my single party years...sometimes I miss it. Decent priced drinks and non-pretentious crowd make for an overall good time. I avoided it during the summer just because the college kids made me feel old, it's much nicer with an older 20-30 something  crowd there. And  yes, it is the valley, but don't EVER call me a valley girl.
Review Source:Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that I got to know the bartenders here because I worked in a restaurant in Shelton for two years, I'd probably never go here. The drinks are overpriced, the food is below average, and the crowd is, well, it's the Valley.
However, they have outdoor seating, the newer bar generally is roomy enough to get around in, there are tvs everywhere (and it's a Yankees bar, which scores points in my book), and they have darts, pool tables, and Tiger Woods golf.
All in all, I like Downtown Danny O's. Whenever I have a reason to go to Shelton, I try to stop in and say hello.
I met Danny O. when I was here on Friday night and just knowing he's a good guy gets this place 4 stars. Â Having been here a few times before I will agree with Holly that it is like a giant HS reunion. Â It was quite cold on Friday night but the patio has an outdoor gas fireplace for all the smokers to gather round. Â Nice touch. Â I like the bricked side with plasma screens better, but there is never any space to move with the servers (cute) and drinkers jockying for position. Â The garage side is more spacious and quite enjoyable in the summer months, especially when the door is open and the Yankees are playing.
