Casual Santa Cruz Mexican food. Clean with friendly service! Food leaves a you wanting something more. Let down by the chille verde plate... oversalted without much depth of flavor. The salad was plain and the rice a bit bland. The corn tortillas are however served steaming and delicious! They only have one house salsa that was all chipotle flavor.... it's not a true taqueria unless they have a salsa bar!! :X

In my top 3 taqueria's list for sure. Owned by the same family as Moreno's. Get a quesidilla!

Ok here's the deal, I've eaten all over the world, from street carts to upscale restaurants. NOTHING I've ever had could beat an al pastor burrito from this place. As far as I'm concerned, al pastor is the hardest taqueria meat to make, so even though i rarely stray from my favorite, I'm going to guess everything else here is amazing too. Their salsa is crazy good, staff is super friendly, and the place is squeaky clean, which i think is rare for taquerias. This place beats all other taquerias in town for sure!

Delicious veggie quesadilla, not like the typical quesadilla, but better - very fresh and flavorful. Not greasy at all! Great food, fast service and super friendly staff!

Yum! this place gives you HUMONGO burritos & quesadillas! We could have easily split our lunches, but ended up taking part home. They use beans & rice as a base filling so you will get a filling meal. The salsas are fresh & tasty! And the meats were very tender & nicely seasoned. Great bargain.

This is by far my favorite taqueria in Santa Cruz. It's off the beaten path and the food is great! I always order al pastor. So tasty! Overall, it's a great place to get good mexican food. Oh! Did I mention their salsa? You can't get enough of it!

I had a steak torta today and it was tasty. I can't say it was the best torta I've ever had, but It hit the spot for sure.  I may be a bit based of mexican food because I have an array of amazing mexican food to choose from being from Oakland. But all together, it's a good place to get mexican food.

And the staff really made my day! A local, family owned spot.  The man at the register answered all of my questions when being indecisive about what I wanted for lunch.  He tended to my needs and reassured me that my food would be out soon when my hungry ass eyes would graze over to the cooks behind the counter.  He soon presented me with my food when it was done and gave me extra hot sauce!

This place was decent, but the 4 stars you other Yelpers gave it probably pegged our expectations a bit too high. Everything was fresh and pretty good, but we were sorry not to find a fresh salsa bar and the meats were a little, how you say, 'firm'' to chew. Fresh strawberry juice was in season and that was a rare treat, but given better options nearby plus the location and lack of parking I doubt we will return.

My Go-To place in Santa Cruz! Excellent El Pastor & Chicken Burritos! Corn Quesadilla Rock! Great food at a great price, no wonder they got the #1 pick for the Goldie's on the Good Times best of 2011! Enjoy!

Had to give this place a try at least once.  It is just okay, nothing amazing about it for me.  But hey I'm a vegetarian.  I can't vouch for their meat.  Sorry.

I didn't think their salsa had any kick to it.  Kind of more for white people.  Food took a while to cook.  I think because the place is more family owned.  Nothing wrong with that, because I wasn't in a hurry today.

Small in the inside a few tables.  But in comparison to Jalapenos, this place is HUGE!  LOL.  Chips were good.

Why do I go to De La Hacienda?  Its close to where I live and work.  Convenience can't be overstated.

While they don't do anything great, they do everything well.  Their burritos are a filling and tasty.  The super nachos live up to the expectation that they will be covered with toppings.  The Chili Verde is tasty and the pork is good.  I love the chips, mostly because they are buttery and salty.  Their tacos are a great value and hit the spot.

The atmosphere is pretty casual, the television will most likely have a Spanish language station on, and a soccer game if possible. Sometimes the staff isn't great, but always efficient.

Not the greatest Taqueria on earth, but certainly a serviceable one.  Again, I go there because it is super close to where I live and work.  They deliver a pretty consistent burrito and solid food.  If you don't want to go all the way downtown, stop here for sure.

De La Hac is probably my favorite taq in Santa Cruz. The food is fresh, authentic, and the place is very clean

    Food:
I usually get a super burrito with their chile verde beef. The chile verde is so tender, it fall apart so easily and the flavor is so bomb. What I like about Hac is that they're super flexible with how you want your food made. A friend of mine couldn't decide what kind of meat she wanted so they said she could get both.
Their chimichangas are really good too. Deep fried really well, but not greasy.
I have to say that their star is their salsa. It is so good. I put it alll ovaaaa mah food.

    Service:
All I gotta say is that everyone I've met working there is incredibly friendly and they all take good care of their customers. Food comes out really fast too.

This place is pretty good, family ran and I notice to see that some of  the same customers are there about every other time I go there. The food here is always very good and simple. I like their carnitas burrito. The nachos is pretty good too. Every platter I have had is very good. The main thing too, the people working there are very nice people and always pretty friendly. There's a good selection of Mexican soda pop. Their house salsa is a must, try it on your burro. I will continue to keep coming here as long as this place can last!

They have an item on the menu called a "corn quesadilla". It comes as a lightly fried taco with meat, cheese, beans, and cabbage. Get the green chile beef - you will think you've gone to taqueria heaven.

I'm pretty sure these guys are offshoots of the Moreno family. Their green chile beef seems identical. Unlike the Moreno's on Water St., however, these guys seem genuinely pleased to serve you.

Again tried this place one more time. Not only was the owner rude to me picking up my food but the food was bland and nearly inedible. After last night we decided never ever again.

My favorite taqueria in Santa Cruz.  It is basic, simple, nothing too crazy.  The ingredients are fresh and the salsa is fantastic and brings it all together.  Cabbage.  No rice in burritos.  Just a good spot for easy yummy food. And the family is nice and knows my order after some year's of coming by.

After my mtb ride this morning/afternoon, I stopped by this taq as I'm always on the lookout for some good mexican food.  With the fairly solid 4 star ratings, I had to try it since I was in the vicinity.

I just ordered their carne asada burrito as a first time 'test', service was pretty fast and it comes wrapped in your typical aluminum foil.  The beef was good, it reminded me of a slow cooked pot roast, all meat and not a lot of fat.  I've been to some places where I have to remove pieces of gristle out of my mouth, not the case here.

They give you a squirt bottle of their salsa which I used liberally onto the burrito to further enhance the flavor.  Pretty good stuff.

Minus one star because they do not give you chips and they do not have a salsa bar.....boo.  (If I had a taq, chips and a salsa bar are a must)

Will try other items on the menu when I'm in this area of town.  *** 1/2 stars.   Planet Fresh on Cedar edges this place out IMO, at least for now.

Decent little taqueria; got a big fat chimichanga, nice bit of salsa and hot sauce and sour cream. Crispy, nice juicy chicken. Really bare bones place, not much in the way to drink. No horchata? They have some beer.

Not bad; not the absolute best, but solid. Halfway between downtown and the university, might be good for students.

I love this place! I go at lease once a week if not more!

Very friendly workers. Willing to put up with my crazy orders and it turns out the way I want it every time. I always leave as  happy camper!

Also, I love it when they have the strawberry drink that they make once in a while.

    Food delicious
    Service excellent
    Health probably could be better

    Great for a mexican treat!

The burrito was delicious, it came with rice and beans, it did not cost too much to add advocado.

I've only ever ordered one thing at La Hacienda, and I've ordered it many times over several years. This thing, this glorious thing, is a burrito with just beans, cheese, rice, sour cream, and salsa on the side (do not miss their salsa), nothing less and nothing more. This burrito, as executed by La Hacienda, is a culinary delight, the simple ingredients uniting in the warm embrace of a phenomenal tortilla to deliver a meal that deeply satisfies the holy trifecta: tastebuds, stomach, and wallet.

The tastiness of this simple burrito seems to signify a commitment to quality ingredients, so I can only assume their other dishes are awesome as well.

De La Hacienda is located about a 15 minute walk from the boardwalk.

I came here for lunch with a group of friends.  After looking at the menu, I ordered a Meat Burrito, and I chose Carnitas as my meat.  I also ordered it without beans.  The burrito was around $5.  I also ordered a side of chips and salsa for $1.75.

All of our food was made really fast.  Within 5 minutes, we all had our food.  My burrito was pretty big.  The carnitas was tender and flavorful.  Inside the burrito, it was filled with carnitas, cabbage, onions, cilantro, and salsa.  It tasted really good!  I've never had cabbage inside a burrito, but it was a nice change.

Overall, I'd definitely come back to try other stuff.  The service was great, too.

    Meh.

    Beans in the taco?
    With flour tortillas?
    And almost no onions?
    Or cilantro?
    Cabbage it its place?
    Flavorless hot sauce?
    Too dry al pastor?

    I repeat: Meh.

No thanks.  Shame because the lady working was super nice.

De La Hacienda Taqueria isn't the sort of place that'll leave you feeling paralyzed with choice. Their small, well-edited menu gives you a short list of taco, quesadillas and burrito options. Because I have rarely met a super burrito I did not like, I opted for a carne asada version. My companion chose chicken and we took these to the beach off nearby West Cliff Drive along with strawberry agua fresca and beer.

As we unwrapped these expertly rolled, perfectly crisp, grilled burritos while lounging on a blanket upon the beach, I had to wonder: "Could life get better than this?" One bite later I decided it could.

Given De La Hacienda Taqueria's slightly out of the way location, I'd never have found it without Yelp. Thank goodness for the perfect confluence of AT&T service actually working, terrific reviews and a little GPS magic all of which helped make my beach/burrito fantasy staycation possible.

The ABSOLUTE BEST burritos and quesadillas in Santa Cruz!!

Great prices, super clean tables, nice staff...what's not to like?

I've probably eaten 1000s of burritos up and down California and this place's al pastor super ranks right near the TOP anywhere.  The salsa is amazing as well.  So glad to have this spot open a couple blocks from downtown.

I've taken hard-core, east bay Gordo-ites here and ALL have become converts.  THIS PLACE RULES!

We love this place - the parking is easy, the food is yummy and the salsa is awesome. We're here often, and they know our order by heart. But I shouldn't tell you that...  we love the fact that we can always get in and eat quickly, and if more of you come out, that'll be more difficult. This is a *must have* for us everytime my college kids come home.

Hmmm...  now I may have to go down there for lunch. I'm craving their quesadillas.

I am still getting used to their drier, crispier al pastor. But hey, the place has great personality. I was in there just last week, in a rush to get a quick burrito and catch a bus.

The nephew of the owner (the family owns Tacos Moreno as well) saw that I was in a  hurry, got me all I needed, and told me a bit of family history all within 3 minutes. I wasn't timing him, but you know, it was quick. They've made the same salsa for 30 years. Another fun factoid: they close down once a year in the winter for a few days to renovations and paining: fresh. Great neighborhood taqueria.

Nipping at the heels of Tacos Morenos, we have La Hacienda.

Like Morenos, the stand out here is the perfection of the burritos; lightly crisped tortillas, with a nice balance of cabbage and other fillings (yes, I like cabbage in my burrito!)  They lack the meat selection of Morenos, however.  There are Taquerias that throw tonnes of food at you, and then there are those that throw a mere ton, but with finesse.  Hacienda is in the former category: not the biggest burritos in the world, but ones that are well designed.

When I worked in the beach area, I burritos from here a lot; when I heard their landlord forced them to move, I was sad for everyone in the area: a great little mexican place is, well, great.  Often during lunch you'll find the mechanics from the boardwalk (or part of any other department) having their lunch around the table.

I really want to wish them luck in their new location (and need to visit again!)

I got the carne asada burrito and the meat is dry and it is less filling compared to taqueria vallarta or taq sc. So i wouldn't really come here for the carne burrito. another bad thing is they don't give any free chips or salsa. so all in all, i feel like this place is cheaper and doesn't provide as much as taqueria vallarta or taqueria sc.  but I do like that they have this special salsa here that they dont have at the other taquerias. Also, The guy working here is reallyyy nice!

i just tried the burrito with al pastor for the first time today. and the al pastor is really tasty! much tastier than the carne, although it is still dry.  so i guess next time i'll get the burrito with al pastor here instead of carne.

This place is awesome.  It was a great change to the boardwalk mexican food on Beach Street.  Unfortunately due to building ownership issues they moved.  Their new location is:

354 Washington St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060

    :)

I cannot wait to head over to Santa Cruz for dinner!

They messed up my order and then gave me attitude.

The portions are TINY. 2 measly tacos and super nachos came out to 16 bucks.

They messed up my nachos with the wrong type of meat. The lady takes it back to fix it and when she comes back with my nachos she slams down my plate and the portion of nachos was significantly less than what they originally gave me (The original one was a Small portion also) It was enough for me, but I ordered them cuz my guy usually will help me eat em (That's why he ordered only 2 tacos). And Taquerias usually gives you a butt load of nachos cuz it is already inexpensive.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS PLACE'S RATINGS!!! OVERPRICED MEDIOCRE FOOD AND BAD SERVICE.

My favorite burrito place.  Tacos Moreno's on Water is good, but they don't take debit cards and their menu is limited.

I probably should not reveal how awesome this place is because it's busy enough as it is.

The salsa is so amazing I could drink it.

The burritos are tasty, my favorite is the super veggie and I'm not a vegetarian.  Their nachos are bomb and the quesadilla is so big you will die happy.  Sometimes they have specials, and the fish tacos are delish: talapia with jalapenos, avocado, cabbage and tomato.

This place is clean, the people working are very nice, they have the jarritos sodas and did I mention the salsa is damn tasty?

I grew very attached to this place because a couple of my good buddies used to live directly on top of this restaurant. If you heard crazy stomping or bad karaoke coming from above the restaurant last year, it was probably us monkeying around and enjoying the good life.

Anyway, I've been here over 10 times, and enjoyed my experience each time. I've tried their tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and nachos. I usually ended up getting the carne asada burrito, which was very filling and enjoyable. The meat tasted great and I felt great eating it because it didn't make me feel TOO fat afterwards like many other burritos do. The super quesadillas are also equally delicious! I enjoyed pretty much everything I tried here. What's great too is it's directly across the street from the beach and boardwalk! So you can come here to eat while you enjoy the nice view...

The prices are also very fair. $7 will get you a good meal...

There are a plethora of Mexican places up and around the boardwalk.

Since we didn't have a hankering for fried and greasy, we skipped the usual boardwalk fare and started wandering around and found this place.

I just had a crispy chicken taco.  Never had a taco with beans in it (isn't that a tostada?) but it was not bad.   My friends had a chicken burrito and carne asada soft tacos.  Good.

Very casual place and you get your soft drinks in a can.
