Horrible service. We waited 10 minutes before getting a menu and our drink orders in. When they brought our drinks, they were wrong and I had a hair in mine. We got our drinks replaced and ordered  our food. We ordered an appetizer which they forgot.
When our food came out, we regretted even coming here. My fiancee's cheese burger had burned cheese on the edges and my chick tenders had ZERO flavoring. The service was so bad that our waitress wrote zero for her tip.
Gordon Ramsay, here is you next Kitchen Nightmare.
DOG FRIENDLY PATIO. Great chocolate martinis. You have to try Avocado Heaven...it's true to its name. Love the staff and most have been with them a while so it's one of those local hang outs where they remember you when you come back which is nice because they have a LOT of locals that frequent this restaurant/bar.
Review Source:Stopped at this place to get a beer and a bite to eat. was pleasantly surprised with the food, drinks and atmosphere. They had live music from a guy straight out of the 50's. It made the place feel like more than a bar. The food was excellent. Get the Tabasco Chicken sandwich. Great flavor and the fries that come with it are phenomenal. The Dive Burger was great as well. The Creme brûlée was, eh, but they actually took it off the bill which was very generous. Everything else was on point. Definitely recommend coming here on a Friday night. My wife and I will be back!
Review Source:We recently went on our sixth visit over the past couple years to The Dive. As other reviewers have said, I am still not sure of their target customer given the very low key decor. The low lighting and pricey menu items says romantic but I would definitely not choose this as a place to bring a date if you are trying to impress. We go when we are looking for a place to eat after 9 pm or when we know most other restaurants in the area will be overly crowded. Â
I prefer to sit in the bar area because honestly the waitstaff are why I repeat my visits. The food is pretty tasty but as I said a bit more on the pricey side, as are the drinks, given that this place does not have a true identity.
Disappointed that they did away with their after 9 pm happy hour.
We went here for the first time and had an average experience. The waitress was excellent. She was very friendly, attentive and provided suggestions. We started with the Chicken Enchilada Spread that really was not that great for a few reasons. The first was the lack of chips and the second was the dip itself. It really does look like something thrown together out of a can, mixed, put on a plate and microwaved. It did not taste that great either. We then had the Seafood nachos, Chicken tenders and the Tabasco chicken sandwich. The Seafood nachos again were a small portion (appetizer) and pretty messy. It was lacking in flavor and really not a lot of seafood to justify the price. Now onto the goodness. The chicken tenders were pretty tasty. They were not over breaded and the chicken was moist and delicious. The tabasco chicken sandwich was also excellent and the tabasco onions on the sandwich were spicy and delicious. Our final take was that if you are going to give this place a try, the appetizers are maybe enough for one-two people so if you are with a large group, order more than one. The chicken seems to be on point so no complaints there. The main issue is really the price. This place is a bit pricey for the portions and quality you pay for.
Review Source:Was in for lunch this week with a few coworkers. Â The dive bar atmosphere initially makes you feel like you should leave and come back for happy hour and crawl home at 2:00AM. Â That said, the food was really really good. Â Sandwiches and burgers are excellent. Â This is a great little spot that more people need to know about.
Review Source:IDENTITY LOST....
I liked the Dive bar...Liked as in, past tense. The place has been sold and along with it goes its identity. Oh the name remains, but the decor and ambiance have now been retired for a "new brighter and open look". Â I understand, that when you buy a place you want to add you own personal touches, but to go completely remove its identity is...well sad...
I like the name The Dive Bar, cause it was NOT that at all...It was a dark comfortable place that kinda reminded me of my parents basement while growing up. It was a place to "get away", where you felt "at home and relaxed" and could immediately be somewhere else, reflected within the decor and the friendliness of the place. Sadly that has all changed now...
I went in the other day to be greeted by new BRIGHTER lighting, and tables... MORE tables it seems, crammed into an already tight space given the intimacy over to listening to table "right next to you" accented by the brighter lighting so to see your neighbor while they are talking and perhaps engage with them in their conversation...because that is what is happening. Gone is the "no view of the parking lot" to have the curtains pulled back and showcase the parking lot and remind me that YES, I am in Frisco and YES, this is NOT the same place I used to come to and forget I was in Frisco. They have added a new "Host Station" complete with a Host and a computer to manage the mecca of new tables within this confined space to ensure your intimacy and privacy will seat you next to the table full of kids.
When you have a small storefront place, you would like it to standout from the rest of the places. I thought that is what the original owners did it and quite well. Now it seems that are stripping the identify to seat more people...and it just is not working. The menu remains much the same with a few...very few additions. The pricing remains the same, expensive for the area where choice abounds. Gone are the specials to include Happy Hour and Sunday brunch (at least for now the note on the door reads).
I used to go to The Dive Bar because it offered an escape from the ordinary, here locally in Frisco. The food was never "that great" and the friendly bar staff made up for what was lacking there. However I fear that with change, may come that inevitable change in the bar staff and of course, a change in the crowd. All that will be left is to change the Name to completely remove what was once a "haven within the city".
I will now defer my business to the offerings of intimacy and ambiance offered at the ever growing list of restaurants that cater to my needs and the needs of so many others like me with lots to spend on "good food, good wine and intimacy" not the ever growing list of the tried failed model of "kid friendly as if THEY were paying the bill.
Yes, "Yay! I'm a fan". Â We had been here once before just for a couple of libations and enjoyed it enough to make a return visit one Sunday morning for brunch.
We sat at the comfy bar, our usual perching place, and like before, warmly greeted by a friendly Chantel. Â We were quite impressed by the number of folks streaming in at the fairly early hour of 0930. (DBG opens @ 0800 on Saturday and Sunday, a good thing for early brunchers like us)
As others have stated, this is a small space with about 10-12 seats @ the bar, a few booths and tables, one large communal  table, and 2 high top tables.  It's really dark inside, thought it was such a neat idea to have a flashlight on the bar top so one can read the menu.  A definite plus.
Began our repast with a spicy Bloody Mary, topped with fat olives and one spear of okra.  It was most delish, just the right balance of alcohol and BM mix. I was a little surprised to see the $8 tab for the drink; would have expected "special" brunch pricing as is with most brunch places we have dined, be it Bloody Mary's or Mimosas  Perhaps this might be something for management to consider?  I did enjoy it however.
We both ordered the Corned Beef Hash, served with cheesy home style potatoes and toast. Â The protein was fairly large pieces of moist, tender, and well seasoned corned beef. Â The potatoes were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, soft/fluffy on the inside. Â The serving was very generous; some traveled home with me for indulgence another day. A high 5 stars on our choice today, a bargain @ $7.99.
Service by Chantel could not have been improved upon; she was attentive and very engaging, never leaving us to want for anything. Â My dining companion's next beer(s) was always promptly delivered.
The place was hopping busy when we left. Â It was so obvious that this hidden spot in a strip center has become a local hangout for regular visitors; singles, couples and families alike. Â We hope to become part of that group with more visits in the future :)
Okay, for some reason I am hesitant to give this place 4 stars but I think I have to be fair and do so. Â The only real negative was that at 8pm on a Friday night there were less than 10 guest. Â That aside, the service was good and the food I thought was fantastic. Â For appetizers we had the Dive Balls which I could have passed on (I was not impressed) and the Cajun Crabby Crawfish Toast which was just delicious; it might be a little oily for some but for me the buttery, cheesy concoction was the bomb! Â For an entree I tried the Pecan Crusted Rainbow Trout which I also thought was delicious the sides of diced sweet potato and the grilled zucchini squash mix was just in the way on the plate (neither of the sides were very tasty). Â There were a few other items on the menu that caught my eye so I think I will be going back.
Review Source:Seems to be going downhill.
Waitstaff and bartender would rather stay around the bar and not pay attention to guest. Â
Our waiter bought out our food order was wrong also we ordered the quesadillas without shrimp of course had shrimp and got to do my pin so I could breathe from my throat swelling up. Â Real fun
And forgot to add manager really was to busy to come over--he was to busy playing a game on his computer
Really hate writing this but this was only our third time in first was good second was ok and now not a great evening
Me and my best bud went here for brunch on African American Friday after Thanksgiving. Did indeed look like a dive from the outside but the inside is amazing. It was darker than I'd like it to be on the inside though. The servers are great. We were the first in there besides a patron who was drinking a margarita. The staff made conversation with us and made the whole experience great. The brunch was Cajun/American comfort food. I got biscuits and gravy which was humungous and very creamy delisciousness. I also got cheddar cheese grits with andoullie sausage which was also great. Truth be told, they were the best grits I've ever had in a restaurant setting. Not too salty, cooked just right and went great when paired with my bloody mary (I got a bloody mary you see). I look forward to going for lunch or dinner!!
Review Source:As with all great reviews, I'm going to start this one out by admitting I'm confused. I have no idea what The Dive is supposed to be - am I going to a quiet cafe? Is this a place to go after work and "chill" with the guys? If "the game" is on, can I see it? How many "girls nights out" can I possibly crash? The bottom line is I'm not sure The Dive knows what it wants to be but at least the food is great enough to ensure you won't mind coming back again and again to figure out if they figured out what they're aiming for.
You could pass right by this place and not even notice. It's not quite in the corner of a strip mall and it's a small place. A few sparse tables and chairs sit outside and when you walk inside, look out: purples and oranges. If you ever wondered what the digestive system of the Cheshire Cat looked like, this is it. Gaudy chandelier, trippy birdcage dripping lamp things hanging from the ceiling, copper and mosaic bar decorations, etc. My advice is to walk in and make a beeline for a hightop table near the bar. This will be tricky as there are a whopping two to pick from. Your next best bet are any of the 10 seats at the bar. Following that, one of four booths (with very tasteful high-backs to their seats - genuinely classy, those). After that, it's every man for himself.
I'm not going to knock the appearance of this place too hard, though - I have three pair of pink tennis shoes so I can't really comment on what's aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. I can knock the service, though. Our gal was very sweet, charming and a great conversationalist. And she got our orders right! That shouldn't be a bonus since, you know, servers should get your order right, but in the course of conversation, she told us she was a hostess typically and she's pretty new to the serving end of things. That might explain how she was able to go into Houdini Mode on us and disappear for extended periods at a time. She'll get the hang of it, though.
My dinner partner was excited about catching the baseball game and he had a great seat for it being that there is only one TV in the place. That's one more than a lot of places, sure, but is this a bar or is this a cafe or what? Nonetheless, we had our beers and we were content.
I've been here a couple times and cannot get enough of that Shrimp Diavolo Pasta but I made up my mind it was time to try something new and opted for the 5th Street Chicken Sandwich. Yeah, excellent choice on my part, if I do say so myself. Tabasco-coated onions on a chicken breast with ripe tomatoes and lettuce? Sold. The guy I was with ordered a cheeseburger with a literal cheese skirt to it. It's kind of hard to explain but imagine a doily of solidified cheese lining the base of the burger. Try to forget it's probably lethal to ingest and just focus on how good it is (because wow, it is).
The main concern I have here is that the whole of the place feels conflicted with what it wants to be. There's a single large table for groups but I suppose you could place a few more together and make more if you had to. The bar itself is small and the patio is practically nonexistent. So if you want a bar, you have plenty of other options and if you want patio dining, there's no shortage. What sells this place is the food and more people need to be aware of that.
I guess efforts are being made to forward this momentum as weekend brunch was promoted a few times to us by our waitress and by a placard on the table. Is it enough? I don't know - I have done the whole "beer and pancakes" thing on more than one occasion (no, seriously, it's a good combo) so maybe that can take off here. Frisco could use that.
Frisco could use a lot of things, really, but Frisco could really use The Dive.
My dinner companion and I arrived on a Friday evening after searching for the place for a bit. The hostess was a tad busy but did greet and seat us. Our waitress waited a reasonable amount of time and we ordered off the menu. I asked about the two menus which weren't marked and was told one was for lunch, the other dinner. The waitress was very nice and she seemed eager to make our visit comfortable. The ambiance was a bit quirky which made it fun.
When we first came in the outdoor patio furniture was showing the Texas heat and at least one chair was starting to come unwoven. We surveyed those who ate around us who were munching on upscale but nicely portioned appetizers and meals. Like us I think a lot of people were a bit aghast at the prices which we felt were a bit high for the fare being offered.
This is basically a wine bar with a bit of beer and a few interesting mixed drinks thrown in for good measure. It's a bit dark but not exotic. Imagine a bit of '70's and '80's with a tiny bit of attitude in terms of surroundings then toss in a dash of '90's. The music was unassuming and not too loud which was nice.
We were served our dinner meal - which was a large burger with a single leaf of lettuce, a nice thick tomato and then this huge mess of cheese at the bottom of the bun with a bit on the burger. We asked the waitress and I guess the cheese at the base of the bun was a planned occurrence. A bit odd but interesting. No mayonnaise on the bun, standard restaurant ketchup was served with the fries. The fry portion was acceptable but not huge. Overall the burger and fries are better at places like Mooyah and the fry portions are larger at a place like that as well.
The beer selection honestly was about average - they do have the bottled beer but the draft beer is - well it's a bit challenged - not a place for beer drinkers. The wine menu seemed so-so. Desserts are strangely hidden in a tiny box on the dinner menu - the entrees were OK - nothing outstanding. Happy hour notice was on the left in another tiny box - I think they used 6 pt. font on the notices. A bit odd - since restaurants and even bars do tend to make some money on spirits and desserts.
The patrons appeared to be 30 - 40 somethings - a few families. Not a real "kid" joint. A couple that my dinner companion recognized from work were there - their first time too - they ate and left fairly quickly. Was it something we said? (Just kidding.) Not a place to linger and mellow and honestly at the 7 - 8 PM hour on a Friday not a lot of mingling after work. This is probably an OK place - the bar food is a bit better than average. Honestly though we received the bill - two draft beers - two burgers and well over $30.00 - we both just about passed out.
They don't intend to offer any coupons or discounts so count on full price. Honestly unless this place does one heck of a late Friday / early Saturday or "Ladies Night" business I can't see them lasting forever - if things don't change. I won't be coming back and I don't think my dinner companion will either.
I just ran in around 8PM on a Saturday night to pick up a to-go order since I was babysitting for a friend down the street. Â I did take a good look around and liked what I saw.
It is located in a strip mall, but they have taken the front part of the sidewalk and created a small patio area with outdoor couches and lounge type furniture. Â A couple of women were out there enjoying the evening with some drinks.
Inside the place is pretty small, think cafe sized. Â It is nicely decorated, it has a kind of swanky night club thing going on which is fun.
They were pretty busy, I'd say about 70% of the tables were full. Â They had a full bar at the back which is where I picked up my food and people watched for a minute. Â
So the food: Â I ordered the blackened tilapia fish tacos with a side of pico and gaucemole. Â It came with three tacos, I skipped the cole slaw that came with them opting to use the cilantro pico instead. Â The tacos were OK, nothing to get excited about. Â The blackened seasoning was kind of light for my tastes, and the fish was left in a fillet cut inside the tortilla. Â IMHO, cutting up the fish while blackening it gives it more flavor rather than just serving an uncut fillet of blackened only on the outside fish. Â So overall I didn't love them, but in a pinch these were decent. Â Sigh, and my hunt for the best fish tacos continues. Â Curse you Vickery 11PM tacos!!!!
The guys behind the bar were super nice, one gave me a free soda to-go with my order.
I will probably be back if I'm on that side of town again. Â I would like to try actually eating there rather than showing up in my sweats and slippers for my to-go order.
After working up a hearty appetite after shoppng at Stonebriar Mall, my daughter and I decide" to try "The Dive". Â Tucked in the strip behind Casa Rita's, you might not know it;s there at first glance. Â It is well worth discovering as the food is delicious. Â The atmosphere is dark and interesting. Â You might imagine you are in Rick's Cafe Americaine minus the piano player. Â They play tapes of music we both liked, although it is more from my generation than my daughter's. Â
We started out with the "Dive Balls" as our appetizer.  My daughter loved them and I thought they were yummy.  Then we ordered our entrees.  I tried the shrimp basket.  The shrimp were big, tasty and were accompanied by remoulade sauce and tartar sauce.  My daughter ordered the tilapia tacos.  She said they were very good.  We ended our dinner by sharing a creme brulee.  I must say it was the perfect consistency and topped with strawberries, blueberries and I believe blackberries.  It could not have been better.  We have put this on our  "go to again list".  The service was very  good.  Just, fyi, they have wi-fi.
What a nice surprise, when you expect greasy bar food at a strip center tucked away bar and grill! Â Don't get me wrong, they have their far share of greasy bar food, but it's actually super good. Â This was our third time to visit, and with the exception of one bad dessert last year (something chocolate can't remember) we've never had anything bad here!.
The grilled BLT salad is probably one of my top favorite salads in DFW now. Mmmm perfect combination of sweet candied nuts and salty bacon.
Burger is one of the best in town, they actually grill the cheese and it hangs down off the side in a crunchy skirt....Fantastic!
My husband's fish tacos were superb!
....and one of my all-time deal breakers for any restaurant is a good wine list. Â Wow, that was such a surprise, they had a phenomenal wine list. Â Even had a red grape I wasn't familiar with called Carmignan. Â And the owner is very wine savvy, came over and discussed their selection and made great recommendations!
We'll eat here again! Â Very reasonable prices and awesome atmosphere, with 70's-80s decor and music.
Been here a few times ... but first kudos to a local 'bar/restaurant" in the Frisco area! Â Â
This place is hidden in a strip mall behind Spring Creek BBQ and Casa Rita's. Â
Ambiance:  Not really a 'Dive Bar' atmosphere and only 1 TV.  It looks like a confused  Uptown Restaurant with a few lamps left over from 1972.  Â
The good: Â BBQ Chicken HoeCakes - damn good, Â 5th Street Tabasco Chicken Sandwich - delish, Strawberry Fields drink, and $2 PBR! Â :-)
The mediocre: Â Red Fish, Spice Rubbed pork, and Seared Tuna Salad.
The not so good: Â Dive Balls - too much potato, not enough goodness.
Service is good - not in your face, but not absent.
I'll go back when I'm looking for something different again in the Frisco area!
Made good on my promise to try the Free App Buffet, and while it's not like a Vegas buffet, the items were top shelf and so, so, so good! The yummy meatballs in a unique red sauce (not entirely Italian, but even better) had a tender texture and huge flavor, the chicken enchilada spread was filled with huge chunks of tender chicken and smooth cheese sauce with enough heat to give you a warm feeling in your "tenders", and the salsa was to die for. Add to that the always incredible service, the delicious menu items and this is my new favorite Go To Spot!
The fact that famous and high profile Dallas Cowboy Stars are regulars there should serve as more endorsement than I can give....Go There Now!!
Not good! Went here yesterday with a co-worker.
Had the enchilada spread as an appetizer and it is literally a microwaved bowl of canned chicken and melted cheese on top. It was not good at all...talk about a half-azzed attempt at originality. I could have come up with something more thoughtful and interesting than that!
I ordered some sort of chicken sandwich and it came out with more cheese than chicken. The chicken breast was meager at best and was loaded with cheap cheese and tons of lettuce and avocado. It was ok at best.
My co worker ordered the fish tacos and described them as "meh". Â
We let the waiter talk us into dessert even though we knew better by this point. We shared a serving of their blueberry bread pudding. Again, it was very lacluster and just all around "MEH"!!!
Between the two of us, we left a lot of food untouched and didnt bother to pack up any to-go boxes.
We were actually thinking about stopping around the corner for a better dessert at the new Frost It Cafe but when we found out it had the same owner as the Dive, we said "forget about it"! lol
However, to end on a more positive note...our waitress and server were very delightful and attentive. But it's going to take a heck of alot more than good customer service to bring us back here again.
A sarcastic play on the "dive bar," don't let the name fool you. This is a place for the casual foodie.
I have been to the Dive Bar a few times and the food has been tasty. I really like the spin on traditional fare. For example the seafood nachos not a pile of chips and toppings, but a selected layout of chips topped with shrimp and scallops with a great mix of flavors and an excellent dipping sauce. I also like the beat sliders, yep they are beets instead of burger meat, but they are really good. The burger is also very good as well as the sesame crusted ahi tuna salad entree.
My only issue is the place is a bit on the high side when it comes to cost. You can easily rack up a sushi priced meal here. Interesting how many families go here, but still a place for grown-ups to hangout.
We've visited twice now and found the food really unique and delicious. Service can be a bit sketchy but if you're patient it's tolerable. Â My daughter had chicken picata, which didn't look like something i'd order-looked more like chicken fried stake. Â Seafood nachos were good, the hot sauce chicken sandwich is good, the pasta looked good.
Review Source:Ok people. Â I dont like to give bad reviews. Â I'd rather give a good review and just not comment on a not so great experience. Â This is the only time my fellow yelpers let me down. Â I was so excited to check this place out based on reviews. Â On our recent visit, we walked in and were hit by the smell of grease from the kitchen. Â My guess there may have been an earlier problem with the kitchen hoods. Â No big deal, but it gives you the sense of the place not being clean. Â We ate here early on a Saturday night with our 6 year old son. Â We were some of the 1st dinners, so they were not busy. Â We order the Dive Balls, as they have gotten RAVE reviews from yelp. Â I have to say these terrible, flavorless fried balls were not good at all. Â They appeared to by fried perfectly golden brown and looked very good. Â Well I tased mine and I was certain something must be wrong. Â Maybe ours were not cooked enough. Â I asked the waitress to look at mine as it was cut open and appeared to be not cooked or cheese filled, I could not tell but they looked raw and not cooked. Â She assured me they were fine. Â Great but not good. Â No one at the table liked them and refused to eat them. Â Let down. Â Well at least they are playing some cool chill tunes from the 60's, 70's, 80's....so I'm digging the dinner vibe. Â MY son is even singing along with the BeeGees. Â I'm still excited about dinner.
I ordered the tenderloin dish, which I did like very much but it was not knock your socks off, but yes, very good. Â Next time I will order mine Med Rare as it seemed the grill marks were a little charred on the outside of my med cooked meat. My Malbec wine by the glass was very good as well. Â My husband had the fish and he liked it too. Â Here's the deal, yes it's in a strip center and yes they decor is dark and very nice. Â Kind of funky like a night club. Â And yes it's in our neighborhood, big bonus for us- not a chain- wonderful. Â Â It's not a DIVE and the prices are certainly not bar grub prices. Â Which thanks to the reviews, I knew all of this. Â Had I not read about this place I would have never tried it as I assumed it was a Bar similar to Snookies kind of place. Â So I did write it off based on the name alone. Â
On the night we dined 1 app, 2 entrees, a glass of wine, a beer and a kids meal with tip was $75.
So here's the rub: Â When my neighborhood strip center dining option starts competing with my favorite upscale steak / seafood dinner places pricewise, I'm going to have to choose my upscale place for dinners $75 and over. Â It just wasn't THAT good if you know what I mean. Â I'd be happy to come again if dinner for 2 adults and a kid is max $50-$60. Â But for my $75 plus dinners, I'm opening myself up to so many other better options, even if I have to drive a little farther. For this price range, Â Let's get dressed and go out. Â Since I want to support a non chain place in my area, I'm going to give this place another chance and hope to change this review in the future. Â I want to stress, it was not bad just did not meet the expected hype of so many great reviews. Â And I'm kind of picky when I'm spending over a certain amount for 2 adults and a kid. Â If I'm dong a date night, this place did not meet my expectations for food, atmosphere and price. Â Love the sister places, 5th Street Patio and Frost it Cafe- yes I'm a fan.
This place has been consistently well above average. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable; not too loud or overbearing. Only one TV, which can be a good or bad thing (they do not sell themselves as a sports bar, so set those expectations if you're looking for one). The service has been surprisingly good. Everyone is very pleasant and seem to strike that perfect balance of being attentive without being over-bearing.
The menu is where I feel this place really shines. They have a wonderful selection of varied and approachable items in each area. Normally when I see a restaurant's menu for the first time, I can count on one hand how many items look interesting or appealing. Their menu is littered with interesting pasta, seafood, pork, sandwiches, salads and steaks - I specifically recall a ribeye and filet. The BBQ Chicken Hoecakes rock, the Dive Balls were good, but I was expecting better (could not discern the chorizo despite being referenced in the item description) and the Fra Diavolo pasta was worth ordering again. What I enjoy most is the quality and style of food you receive is a great value for the price as their portions are actually that: portions. Instead of receiving a days' worth of calories on a feeding trough of a plate, you're served real portions of real food! What a concept! I appreciate when restaurants take this approach so we, as patrons, can receive good food at good prices.
Regarding what some others have commented on the name of the place, I think it's just supposed to be irony. The place is what I believe is called an up-scale dive. Those who've so cleverly observed it has nothing to do with water - I think you're right on. ;)
Give The Dive a shot - I'd doubt you'll be sorry you did!
My husband and I have eaten there twice now. Â The first time is when it first opened and again just recently with a group of 12. Â My biggest issue is with the name and branding - it makes absolutely no sense. Â It's not a dive, has nothing to do with water...it's a dimly-lit, date-night restaurant with chandeliers and a decent attempt at ambiance. Â It has pretty good food in an area of town that is ripe with chains. Â Service is just okay. Â It was unbearably hot the night we were there. Â We were told they were having trouble with their air conditioning. Â But they're doing something right for sure, there were people waiting outside despite the 100+ degree heat. Â
Our food was surprisingly good and I think it's reasonably priced for what you get. Â It's great to have a non-chain neighborhood restaurant. Â I just think they really need to figure out who they want to be. Â Is it too late to change the name? Â :)
How did this place get 4 stars? Let's see, hot beer, fair food, overpriced. On the upside, the place is gorgeous and the wait staff, if not the most skillful, is very nice. The Dive?? The name makes no sense. Not a dive in appearance or food. Not even an underwater theme. Don't get it.
Wanted to add a little addendum to my review. After it posted, the manager contacted me to talk about my experience. He wanted to find out what happened on our visit. I would have discussed it with him, but deleted the message by mistake. Kudos to The Dive for trying to get better.
Our group tried a few seafood dishes. Â The tilapias tacos were very basic tasting even with the side of salsa added. Â The encrusted tilapias plate had too much butter on the fish and the vegatables. We had better versions of these at other restaurants. The decor was as mentioned above.
Review Source:My husband and I were excited to check this place out. We had purchased a $20 gets you $40 from Living Socials. Great opportunity to check out a newly opened restaurant that (based on yelp and urbanspoon) had great reviews. We really wanted to like it but our experience was more on the meh side.
First off I was a little confused by the "dive" bar name. The decor definitely felt more like it had a middle eastern vibe, like you walked into a hookah bar. Then you see the price point on the menu. Wouldn't you think a dive bar would be less than $20 a person? Regardless we weren't put off, after all the menu looked pretty tasty and seemed to have higher end type food that would be demanding of the price tag.
We asked our waiter if he had any recommendations. He insisted we try the seafood nachos. They came out as 8 thin tortilla chips with a half a scallop and a shrimp on each with some powdery flavored white cheese. For $11 I can see that you're paying for the seafood here, but the mild flavor of the seafood and chip along with a bland salsa (that tasted more like blended tomato sauce) didn't make for a great taste. The tiny sliver of poblano pepper didn't do much to add flavor. It definitely needed something more complex to save this dish.
My husband ordered the Big Beef French Dip. It had a good helping of salted beef and cheese but fell short when paired with the onion bun and the very salty onion aus jus. Too many similar flavors making for a meal that became overpowering and uninteresting. Perhaps a sourdough bun for a sour taste mixed with a lightly salted sweet onion aus jus and the smokey beef with a side of horseradish mayonnaise to add a little optional kick would have offered the palette a more interesting range of flavors.
I ordered the Maria's Smothered Red Fish that seemed to be popular. The fish and the cheesy bed of rice it was on was actually pretty good. Unfortunately the chef didn't stop there. It's served with an insane amount of olives and capers on top. It was so lemony and pickled in flavor that it overwhelmed the whole dish. I tried to brush aside the olives and capers to eat the tomatoes and onions that were also on top of the fish, only to find out that these were cooked in the same lemon pickled flavor as the capers and olives. I basically had to scrape everything off the top to even make this dish edible. Once again, too much of the same flavor.
All in all the food was pretty subpar. The menu has a good thing going, nice variety and interesting offerings. I just think it fell short on the taste. The chef needs to adjust the dishes so that there isn't only one repetitive flavor in every dish. Based on our overall experience I doubt we'll be back.
The Dive Bar & Grill has been open 5 weeks now. Not your run of the mill chain eatery. We had lunch there today it was just fabulous. The service was great and we had the pleasure of talking with the owner.
We had the Hoe cakes which were really tasty ! Three corn cakes with tender pulled BBQ chicken on top with a jalapeno aioli sauce...I squeezed some lime on top and OMG...scrumptious. We also had a Pesto Salmon salad...the Best salmon...so fresh and cooked to perfection !
This is our favorite new spot in Frisco. They have another place named "Fifth Street Patio & Cafe" and we are looking forward to trying it in a few days...I will let you know what we think.
You have to try this new spot...you will not be disappointed and you will want to go back the next day to try something else on their very original menu. We will be back tomorrow for another shot of delicious food and great atmosphere. The decor is really warm and hip ! Love the custom bench backs in the booths....great fabric.
My fiance & I really enjoy eating out. However, over the past few months we've been burned out on bad food & bad service. Today we discovered the Dive Bar.
O.M.G. incredible food, incredible service. We decided to have a slow leisurely lunch. We started with the dive balls & BBQ hoeCakes. Both were yummy! Then we ordered the lemon sole to share. I'm not usually a fish person & I gobbled it up! I absolutely loved it! Next up was the Cowboy ribeye. The meat was so tender & there was a mix of spicy/sweet flavor. Definitely my fiancée's favorite, mine was the sole. Next we ordered dessert to take home. Chocolate mousse & creme brûlée. I don't even know how to describe these. They were absolutely to die for!!
Needless to say we will be going back...again & again & again!
My family and I tried out the dive a couple of weeks ago during the "soft opening." I had a spice rubbed porkchop and sauteed spinach. The pork chop was fantastic and the spinach (this is going to sound odd) was easily the best spinach that I've ever had. My son had the nachos with shrimp and scallops and he inhaled them. My daughter had the kids spaghetti and it was pretty good - kinda hard to go either way with kids spaghetti. I can't remember what my wife had, but she did say she enjoyed whatever it was.
The service was great. We're frequent patrons of 5th Street (sister restaurant) and the owner came by to say that she was glad to see us. Our server was spot on in terms of being attentive, but not overly so.
The decor is very cool. Upscale bar/lounge kinda feel. I loved the 70's oil lamps they have hanging up.
Can't comment on the price of drinks as this was before they had their liquor license and they had free wine.
Overall, I was really pleased with our visit. This is more of what Frisco needs. There are already too many chain restaurants. I'll take a quality place with a unique feel any day of the week. I hope they're around for a long time.
