Went there for dinner on 4/20/13, ordered ribs. They were burned, dry and tough. The salad was warm! The blue cheese dressing was transluscent! The baked potatoe was a left over from the day before, yuck. Customers beware.

Attempted to eat here last night. 35 min wait to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant. When we finally asked how much longer, the host told us 5-10 more minutes, our table was ready, but they were waiting for the server to 'catch up'.

After we finally got seated the host brought out some nasty cold bread and it took the server another 15 mins to get to the table.  We were leaving just as he walked up. We told him something came up and we had to go, he seemed relieved that we were leaving because he didn't want another table.

From this experience we would not recommend this place to anyone.  There is also a $8.95 minimum service charge per person if you even notice the fine print hidden on the back of the menu.

Food is okay. The place is dirty. Last time my mom went she saw roaches.

We haven't been here in years so we thought we would give it a shot.  Friday night, 6:30pm.  It was not busy so we got seated right away.  The motif seems to be western but it sure was bright and the pictures (prints) on the wall in the first room (where we were seated) did not seem too western.

The busboy dropped off the water and the bread.  I guess it was bread.  It was flattened out, some flavoring was barely noticeable and it wasn't too warm.

We ordered 2 standard cut Prime Ribs.  The waiter had to go see if they had any left.  What?  It is 6:30 on a Friday?  They have run out that soon?   We were told they had two left so we took them.

Our salad and soup came.  The salad was just lettuce with some croutons, I declined the tomato but saw on another diners plate that it was a single cherry tomato.  Very basic, very forgettable.  The wife's clam chowder was good but not very hot (see a pattern yet?).

We waited a normal amount of time for our order to arrive.  We were presented with two plates with huge (thick) Prime RIbs on the plates.  That was a plus.  One piece of broccoli.  A small baked potato wrapped in foil.

Nothing on the plate would be considered hot.  The Prime Rib was a bit dry also.  Nothing special here either.  The meat had a good taste and was tender.  But $33 for this was a bit too much.

The bill for this came to around $80 for two plates and 3 drinks.  Since there were only two of us, I thought we were mischarged for the drinks.  Oh no we weren't.  They do not have free refills.  Again, WHAT?  We were never told this but did not look at the menu to see if they stated this either way.

All in all, this restaurant does not know what it wants to be.  It charges an upscale price for the food but the food, or decor, is not upscale.  The supporting food to the meat is simple and boring.  They need to jazz up the salads, use bigger potatos (maybe rolled in salt), free refills.  The decor should either be completely western or not.  Not a mix of two.

One bright spot was the service for us.  Everything was smooth and attentive.

Will we go back to LL or recommend it to anyone?  NO.  Will I dissuade someone from eating there?  Yes if I ever get a chance.

I've been to double L a few times.  They're hit or miss and usually miss.  The only good steak is the rib eye.  Any other steak they offer is usually tasteless and seemingly never cooked properly.  The waitress, Debbie is very attentive and provides good service. Even she said not to try any other steak as the quality isnt there.  Too bad as they could be a great place but the cook misses the mark.

Very expensive and Everything tasted like campfire- including dessert - baked potato was too gross to eat and my steak, while tender tasted like they dropped it in the fire and I will never go back- we wasted $130 :( for a horrible meal. The waitress said,"well they do cook with real wood." my opinion is that everything tasted like it was injected with liquid smoke - gross

Bad service.  Second time I came here and had to walk out because we waited for  38 minutes and not a single soul came talk to us. They told us 15 minute wait only and there are no one else except us.

Yes, I am one of those wordies who is irritated by the redundancy of "Double LL Steakhouse." Hello, it's either "LL" or "Double L." But that is not sufficient for me to pan the place. If their steaks had wowed me, you would know it.

Possibly the biggest problem with the Double LL (grrr!) is its boast that it serves steaks the way folks in the Midwest know and love steak. Methinks not. Having just moved to California's Central Valley from Central Nebraska mere months ago, from a county where beef cattle outnumber human residents gadzillions-to-one, having chased stray steaks-on-the-hoof out of my yard, having taken umpteen million pix of proud little 4-H'ers posing with their beef cattle at county fairs, Midwestern steaks are something I know a little bit about. I have eaten superb steaks in Omaha, Kansas City and Chicago. The Double LL does NOT make steaks that resemble in any way a great Midwestern steak.

In fact, the Double LL doesn't make great steaks in any tradition.

Darling Hubby and Me Sainted Mum "treated" me to birthday dinner at the Double LL recently. I'm sorry we didn't go to Tahoe Joe's, or drive a few miles up the road to Outback in Fresno.

I ordered the prime rib, medium rare. The menu said the prime rib is automatically served medium rare unless otherwise requested, so you'd think they'd have the proper pink-red, somewhat juicy center down pat. No. My steak was so bloody it almost mooed. It came back a little more medium than medium rare, but it was OK. It was tasty enough.

MSM ordered "filet mignon medallions." Really? You mean the part of the cow that should cut with a fork and melt in the mouth? MSM's three tiny "medallions" were so stringy and tough as to be unchewable. She was spitting out as much as she put in her mouth, and never finished all of her miniscule (and expensive) serving. I brought it to the server's attention and she basically responded with a little, "Huh." She did make a half-hearted offer to bring a new plate, but by then MSM was completely put off her food.

And why should she trust that the new steaks would be any better? DH was sitting next to her, spitting out his top sirloin. This tender, flavorful cut a la Double LL was even more unchewable than MSM's. DH gave me a chunk to try myself, so I speak from personal experience when I say that trying to eat that steak seriously endangered your dental works. He just jawed unhappily away at it, also unwilling to take a replacement steak.

Also very poor were the foil-wrapped potatoes. Some people like them this way (DH included), but I think they often taste like the dirt they were grown in, having been steamed in foil. It's cheating, in my opinion, to let the foil do the work for you, and it produces a less then optimally flavored potato. And how about the salads? Oh yeah...the salads...let me think hard...there were salads, weren't there? Yep, totally forgettable. DH and I both ordered the bleu cheese "mix" for dressing. In Omaha and elsewhere around Nebraska, this gets you a ridiculously generous serving of homemade bleu cheese dressing with a little Vesuvias of bleu cheese chunks rolling off of it. At Double LL it gets you...um...let me think...hmm, can't really remember.

Our server was actually OK. I think her apathy about the steaks merely reflected the restaurant's policy of serving crappy food and refusing to back it up. She did bring me out a piece of chocolate cake and ice cream, both of them the best things we were served all night. I hate to point it out, because the moment they think they're overpaying for quality cake and ice cream, they'll order the cheap stuff off the next truck.

Our final bill, without having ordered any drinks, not even soft drinks, topped $100. Not a red cent was deducted for the stringy, unchewable and inedible steaks served on two of our three plates. Zippy.

Are we ever going back there? Not on your life.

Will I ever check out the Chinese restaurant owned by the same people? You've got to be kidding.

You got a free weekend and a few extra bucks in your pocket, hop a flight to Omaha and sit down at The Drover steakhouse on 72nd Street. Order the whiskey filet, and do get the salad bar. You will know what real Midwestern steak is.

this place has delicious steaks..though the last time the waitress claimed they were having technical difficulties when my meal came out with only one side (i seriously think they tried to sneakily jip me on my vegetable cause she wasnt even going to mention it until i asked where it was!) and my rib eye was not very rib eye looking.....but usually its pretty good! a bit pricey though..the "light" menu is on the back and the steaks under that category are still over 20.00 bucks

No thanks. Everytime I go here I feel like I'm in the before stages of a crime scene. It's just kinda bleeeehhhh inside and the food has changed in the last couple of years. The people working there are pretty rude and lack a sense of urgency when talking to patrons. My family's nice, what did we ever do to you Double LL?

When we went  they were out of Mayo and Chocolate syrup but failed to tell us when we asked for the items.  They brought out mayo in packets and tried to spread what little fudge they did have left, between 6 people.  They waitress was absolutely horrible and incredibly rude.  Not what is expected when you are paying $40 a plate.  The food was acceptable at that price range, but the service was not.

A good restaurant in Visalia is like being the tallest midget in the room...the peer group isn't so great in this town!

That being said, we recommend the Double L Steak House.  This is a place you come to for a really good hunk of red meat.

The size of the menu may be a bit overwhelming, but if you are a lighter eater turn right to the back page.  The "Light Dinner" options here must mean any steak weighing in less than 24 ounces.  Consider splitting an entree, the house will set up a second plate with all side dishes (no entree) for $8.95.

I ordered the boneless rib eye, cooked medium.  That is how it arrived.
Opted for the baked potato (hot and fluffy) and steamed veggie (broccoli).   The small dinner salad was dressed correctly.  Note the steaks here are grilled cowboy style, seasoned with a dry rub (good) and cooked over oak coals (damn good).  If you do not care for a seasoning rub, advise your server.

My wife ordered the chicken fried steak.  It was a thick slab of bottom round cooked correctly but she was disappointed in the cream gravy which tasted canned instead of made from scratch.  She raved about the house rice side dish.  She got through about half the steak before calling it a night.

Portions are big here, you may want to doggie bag the leftovers.

The steak here is always excellent. They finally realized that we are in a recession and started offering some weeknight deals that are an excellent value for the money. You get a steak, potatoes, salad, bread and a drink for $12.99 My biggest complaint is that they don't give soda refills. It costs next to nothing to make a fountain soda. When my Senior citizen father was denied a refill of his Diet Coke it really pissed me off and left a bad taste in my mouth. Seriously give the dude a refill! A small gesture such as that would have made it a much more enjoyable experience and they chose not to do so.Oh well I'll just stick to Tahoe Joes for a nice steak and FREE REFILLS.

Double LL has one of the most vibrant night lives of and downtown restaurant. Things can get a bit out of hand here but it is always a packed house.
