Dingy, dimly lit dive bar that serves really tasty seafood.
    Garlic fries are a definite.
Fried clams mixed with the garlic gravy from the fries was surprisingly good.
Lobster rolls, scallops, crab cakes are all really good.
This place does not disappoint as long as you lower your expectations and know you're heading to a dive bar.

ON MY SECOND TRIP THERE I was more familiar with what to (not) expect, the portions are so small, they put 9 french fries or a child's cereal bowl of pasta on the same plate with your frozen (DEFINITELY NOT fresh) seafood...the shrimp were miniature, the scampi sauce was tasteless, and the overall value is poor, this is not a gem with FRESH seafood, the gimmick is low prices and tiny portions. The burgers I saw coming out looked similar to hot grill but with no toppings but ketchup, the garlic fries are fries with a tablespoon of chopped garlic in oil, blech....skip them , not good. will not be returning, 2 visits proved they are way over-rated and very filthy...you can't get home fast enough to get to the toilet. I tried, 2 stars for the service, no real attention young kid was pleasant and joking with me, everyone else doesn't smile and acts like they're doing you a big favor. they made the guy next to at the bar visibly upset with several rude comments about his ignorance of "what they do here", bull!!! he should have left, I tried to talk to him but he was actually too embarrassed to answer ( tears in his eyes) who needs that? try if you must, but be warned all shrimp, clams and mussells come from bulk bags of frozen seafood, not sure about the 1 1/2 ounce lobster tails, 2 for $14. plus a child's portion of rice or spaghetti. and take immodium before you go to hold back the log flume. no thank you, rather go to Blarney Station for fresh fish and great chips ( fries) for $1 more.

I've been craving fried oysters in the worst way and decided to visit DP Pub on a weeknight with the hubby after reading some Yelp reviews.  True to the reviews,  DP is a little hole-in-the-wall establishment in the heart of Garfield.  There is limited parking in the back.

The menu is on a wall and I didn't have my glasses or contacts so hubby had to read the menu items to me.  The pricing is unbelievable.  I kept asking him if he was sure he was reading the prices right.  I ordered the fried oysters of course and thought they were tasty.  Not the best I've had, but they were fresh.  They could've used a little more seasoning though.  I also ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and OMG thought I was in heaven.  So succulent and sweet and juicy...YUMMMM.  I was still hungry afterwards and ordered a basket of fried clams.  I could barely taste and clam but I think I paid like $2 for the basket so it was all good.  Hubby ordered the chicken parm and was disappointed.  Obviously the selling point here is there seafood!  Beer was cold and cheap...just like I like it.

If you are looking for a nice 5 star joint to eat at, this is not the place.  However, if you want some fresh tasty seafood, that is very reasonably priced with no frills then you gotta check this place out.  I would give them another star but unfortunately, the service left much to be desired.  The bartender did not even acknowledge my husband and I for a good 10 minutes at least and her attitude was not that great.  Almost like she would rather us have not been there.  Also, the place is cash only.  Not that big of a deal, but come one, its 2013.

Love love love DPs. I had been living so close and walked past it so many times before I actually tried it. Once you sit at one of the few tables ( if you can get one as this place gets packed ) the food is unbelievable. My all time favorite is the scallops for dinner with a side of garlic fries, Best scallops I've had. All of the appetizers are delicious!! They start pulling apps off the board when they sell out so i try and get there early & i've never had anything i didn't like here. They rotate the specials so it's great to get to try new things every time. Best thing about DPs is the Huge portions with small prices.

AWFUL SERVICE. That overpowers everything else. Food is fresh, but the service can't get any worse. They appear to be understaffed,  and the very few waitresses/ bartenders they have appear to be so disorganized, always in a rush, angry, impatient, like it's the guests' fault.

The fresh and delicious food made me come back again every now and then, but after last Sunday night I don't think there's going to be a next time.

Nobody showed up to greet us at the front for ten minutes and we eventually decided to just take one of the tables outside and chase the waitress to inform her of our presence.

Took her about 15 minutes to show up and ask us about drinks, and another 15 to bring them out.

From the very first moment she seemed very impatient and rude. They change the fish dishes daily, depending on what's available, so I asked her about today's selection. She snapped quickly that I can go ahead and read in on the board myself, and she walked away again.

By the time she took our orders our drinks got warm. We were witnessing guests from other tables having similar experience. The bartender took out on the window the food for one of the tables, the waitress was nowhere to be found for soo long, so the poor people got up and brought their already cold food to the table themselves.

After more than half an hour, she shows up to inform us that the seafood platter my husband ordered is no longer available, and that he had to change his order (needless to say she didn't even try to apologize for that).

I'm not exaggerating, but it literally took  more than another hour until we finally got our food. In the mean time she showed up 3 times to ask how are we (REALLY?) and do we need anything else. I said, just the food, nothing else. I swear she looked like she forgot that we didn't get our dinner yet and thought we were done. Couple of more mistakes throughout the dinner (our friend ordered another beer, she show up without it asking if everything is fine, when she finally brought it she placed it in front of a wrong person; mixed up the dishes and took 10 minutes to bring the check). Even the food wasn't as good as other times. Everything was swimming in oil, and the garlic fries had no sauce, just chopped pieces of garlic on top.

The check was yet another surprise. It didn't have any description or words, just a column of prices that really didn't make any sense to us. When we asked her for an explanation she completely lost her patience and told us to go and ask at the bar. Needless to say that the ladies at the bar looked as lost as her. The lady I approached made couple of drinks before she even paid attention to the check I handed her. It took them yet another 10 minutes to "figure out" what they did, and finally gave me the explanation that "those couple of items listed 75 cents each are the salad dressings (salad is complementary, but the dressing is 75 cents, and nobody mentions that when you order). Besides that they also charged us for the seafood platter that we never got, and for four other items that even they couldn't identify.

Such a shame. One of the very few places in the area with decent food, and they have such a gross service. Too bad!

    Crazy cheap, crazy fresh seafood.

If you're a seafood fan, definitely try this place.  The prices are great and you can taste the freshness of the seafood.  It's awesome.  I came here two nights in a row because I was so happy with everything.

Their garlic fries are delicious, btw, and you should give them a go.  It was weird... when I first tried them, I thought, "Meh," And then I ended up eating the whole bowl and thinking about them for the whole 24 hours until I had them again.

My only disappointment was when I ordered the twin lobster tails and they weren't Maine lobster tails.  It's okay though, still tasty.

It's definitely a dive and the decor is like you're in the hull of a ship with all the wood planks and tight space but whatever... it's delicious.  The staff is also very friendly and willing to help.  Thinking about it now, i want to eat there again today.

DPs is an old, dark corner bar that, upon first glance, you would think closed 20 years ago.  Nope!  Open for business.  Please set your expectations - it's a bar that hangs on old paper and wood plaque menus of what they serve, along with daily blackboard fish specials.   The service is slow but friendly on most nights.  Beer selection is OK - you won't find a plethora of craft brewed beer here.   What you will find are OK portions of fresh fish (they claim the fish is from the Fulton market) at reasonable prices.   Are the dishes going to win any Michelin stars?  No.  The salad is served in old chaffed wooden bowls that would likely make a health inspector twitch but, hey, we all need to bolster our immune systems a bit, wouldn't you agree?  But I digress.  Really good accompaniments include the garlic fries (still trying to figure out the recipe), $3 breaded mushrooms w/ horseradish dipping sauce.  $6 breaded shrimp are pretty big and they give you five or six.  As for standard dishes, the Shrimp Scampi ain't bad, nor is the steak on toast tips or 8 to 10 ounce steak - all under $15 each.  Get the idea? - Just reliable cheap eats with some daily hit-or-miss fish.  Finish off with the DPs coffee selection - spiked with an assortment of spirits.  Cheers!

This place is the epitome of a dive bar restaurant, but serves some decent seafood! It's probably the darkest environment I have ever eaten in, but for good reason. I've been here a few times and some times are better than others. Shrimp parm and scampi and pretty good. The fried mushrooms suck. AMAZING KEY LIME PIE! Next time I go I am definitely trying the lobster mac and cheese.

    Food 3.5
    Ambiance 3
    Service 3.5

    O/all 3.5

I understand the appeal of this place...local dive bar with fresh seafood and very reasonable if not ridiculous prices.  Service is friendly, albeit on the slower side.  However, that does not mean this place is worth 4.5 stars.

A big part of their seafood menu is fried, so the freshness of the product is muted.  As for other items, they were fresh but often drenched in butter or other sauces.  I would definitely swing by if i was in the neighborhood, but i wouldn't go out of the way to go there.

This place is probably closer to 4 stars but given the uber high rating it has...i will give it a 3 to balance the exuberance.  Cash only place with parking in the back.

I went to DPs with a pretty open mind.  I was expecting a dive bar and they don't disappoint in that respect.  It reminded me of a bar you would find in Buffalo NY if that  paints you a picture.  When I walked in I felt depressed. It is extremely dim which made it impossible for my two friends to read the menu written on chalkboards.  My parents, with their poor eyesight would starve if they came to eat here.
We ordered some food and drinks.  The waitress was not rude but I wouldn't call her friendly either.  She had the whole bar to serve which meant forget having your dishes or empty glasses cleared.  I saw one table pick up their drinks at the bar.  I saw another woman get up to bar and ask for her check.

Honestly I could forgive all this for some great bar food.  Here's the quick and dirty.  Salad was one slice of tomato on top of the yellow core of an iceberg lettuce.  Two of us tried getting the Chilean Seabass but it was sold out so we settled for a cheese burger.  The burger was reminiscent of the burgers from my elementary public school cafeteria.  Huge bun, dry meat, mealy cheddar with no lettuce tomato or onion.

I think the last straw for me was when I saw the cook drag out an cut open a jumbo plastic bag of frozen mussels!   Oh and they forgot our order of garlic fries.

Coming here reminded me that if I want fresh seafood its easy as 1. buy fresh fish from the supermarket 2. season with salt and pepper 3. throw it on a hot pan with olive oil.  Add a wedge of lemon and eat.   It's not hard trust me you can do it!  I seriously can cook these guys under the table.  For shame.

small place with street parking only. cash only, menu is on the walls so look around for them. they have only 1 waitress and shes also the bartender so expect some delays in getting your order taken.

came here during lunch time so i didn't order seafood from the dinner menu but i should have. i ordered the cheddaburger, cheap and huge. not bad either. this place was really dark during lunch time so i can only imagine the darkness during dinner time. tried the mussels, i wouldnt get that again since i dont like it. also got the garlic fries is pretty good.

    will be back.

Are we all eating at the same place?? The place is dark and has a HUGE question mark on cleanliness!! The food was average nothing big to say there I was even wondering if it was frozen. I ordered a Mac & Cheese drenched in oil and the serving are small hence the low prices so don't come too hungry like i did .... did I mention the snotty waitress the only thing worth coming back for were the garlic fries. If this place had better cleaner decor friendlier staff and actual fresh seafood I would come back in a heart beat

Thanks for a great meal, Yelp! It was a Friday night during Lent, and I needed fish. I didn't know where to go, so I turned to Yelp, and found this little dive. This place was very busy, and I was glad there was one open seat at the bar (only b/c I was alone). The workers were busy, but were also attentive to their customers, and friendly to everyone. You could tell that this place has many regulars, but they also welcome new comers. The fish is fresh from the New York market, and is prepared well. I had the orange roughy (they ran out of fish and chips), and walked out a happy man.

This place is a living legend!!! It always sends me back to a time, when things were simpler. The prices are incredible, and the ambiance is dark. Cash only, so be prepared. Try the Lobster Ale, and the Gravy Fries!!! It`s spiritual. Their seafood is always fresh, and their bar is always open.

. My wife and I went to this restaurant for the first time and this restaurant is a gem. The girls behind the bar worked very hard and they're very organized.  I call it organized chaos, my wife loved the grilled chicken sandwich and I had the broiled scalps they were delicious.  The restaurant is in an old industrial area of Garfield and you feel like you're back in the 40s or 50s and you eat the same way people used to eat back then.  You can still see the original menu on the wall made out of paper that is so cool.  If you do go I would advise you to get there early because it gets crowded.  I love old restaurants like this they have great charm.  For a real cool experience go to this restaurant you will love it.

    The best kept secret...EVER.

A total hole in the wall that you would generally ignore, DP's Pub has THE BEST seafood I have ever had. Don't let the look of the place fool you; this place is awesome.

The drinks are cheap (it's obviously also a pub), and the seafood is delicious, yet VERY well priced. The service is good; the waitresses are friendly. There is limited seating so there will more than likely be a wait on the weekend, but it's worth it.

We have only been here a handful of times and everytime we leave i say.. This is my new favorite place!! It's just amazing how they serve up perfectly cooked, seasoned and fresh seafood out of such a small kitchen. I like everything about this place. Simplicity at its finest!! Could use some craft beers... But the Lobster Ale is pretty tasty. Crab cakes, lobster roll, shrimp in garlic, garlic fries and tiramisu please !!!!

DP's décor might be stuck in the 1970's but much to my delight, so are their prices.  Their regular menu features amazing dishes that are so inexpensive that you really feel like you just got out of your DeLorean and stopped for a bite to eat before you have to go, Back to the Future. Appetizers, such as Fried Clams for $1.75 a dozen, Clams on the Half Shell for $6.75, and Shrimp Scampi for $4.95 are just a few of the great choices. Their entrees are equally as amazing, for example you can dine on Chicken Parmigiana for $7.95, Broiled Twin Lobster Tails for $13.95 or Sliced Steak with Butter Sauce for $8.95.  Even though these items always sound tempting, and my fellow diners seem to order these items more often than not, when I go to DP's I only order off one menu, the daily specials.

The daily specials are equivalent to a five-star seafood restaurants, except that DP's menu is on the wall, made out of wood, of course, instead of an ornate menu that is handed to you by a server in white gloves.  On any given day the specials differ and that is just how I like it. From Broiled Cajun Catfish for $7.95 to Shark Steak for $8.95 you never quite know what sea fare you will be dining on when you walk into DP's, but I can guarantee it will be fresh, delicious, and inexpensive.

DP's serves a selection of bottled and draught beers, as well as wine and cocktails.  To be expected though, you are not going to find $50 dollar bottles of wine or obscure micro brews at this establishment, the wine comes in small single serve plastic bottles and the beer is mostly domestic brews that can be found at any local tavern.  But to be honest I am not at DP's to get a fancy drink and discuss politics, I am there for the seafood and to relax after a hard day's work.

As far as the main courses go at DP's, I have never been disappointed and this outing was no different.  The portion size is always absurd compared to the pricing and I have not once left this eatery hungry.  With that said, some places promise large portions and deliver tasteless, bland, albeit huge dishes. Not DP's, every bit of food that is served on your plate is not only of the highest quality but it is cooked and seasoned with precision.  The Broiled Stuffed Flounder was a mouthwatering delicious piece of fish that was busting at the seams with crab meat, scallops, and more.  Sitting beside my flounder was a generous portion of Garlic Fries, which are a perfect companion to this dish.  Sure you can get rice or vegetables to be healthy, but I can be healthy any day of the week, I go to DP's to eat!

The best part of the dining experience at DP's pub is that when the meal is over and the check hits the table you don't gasp for air.  The damage for this awe inspiring meal and libations that I just described was $66.00 with the tip included.  I must also mention that at DP's cash is king and no other form of payment is accepted, so stop at the bank before you head over.  Reasonably priced fresh amazing food is why DP's is a must for all Blue Collar Foodies from near and far.

DP's Pub?  Definitely a place for locals.  Menu is on the wall and I had to do a double take on the prices.  $1.75 for clam strips?  $2.50 for a cheeseburger?  My boyfriend thought a $2.50 cheeseburger was going to be tiny so he ordered two.  Spoiler alert: It's $2.50 for a full cheeseburger.  They have a good variety of seafood also at amazing prices!

This isn't a pub per say, more like a sit down restaurant.  But the prices are almost unbelievably cheap and the food is not bad at all!

I am keeping this place in my back pocket.

A diamond in disguise.  The menu is on the wall, so don't take offense when they look at you funny and point at wall :)  Really a great hidden little spot that I recommend!

Always a fantastic place with really good food, especially the seafood. Has its own style and charm, where it kind of looks like a dive bar,  but don't be fooled this place is a gem.  Food is really affordable with $2 burgers and $4 shrimp scampi as examples.

The new patio area outside is cool!  Only wish they would be open for lunch, which I hope they will do in the future.

WHAT A DIVE!   This doesn't look like a fancy upscale seafood joint, but the food is just as good if not better.

I love oysters, and have had them many places, the ones I had here today were the nicest looking, freshest tasting ones I've had anywhere.  Plus the guy shucking them did an amazing job....they weren't butchered like I've had elsewhere and there wasn't a stray bit of shell whatsoever.

Their broiled scallops are great as well, simply prepared and cooked just right.  Fried clams for 1.95?  Sure it's not a big bowl, but I can't help ordering them every time.

It's not just the seafood though, they make a great burger (and you cooked it medium just like I asked.....WOW), and their sliced steak is a bargain.

Just remember to bring cash when you go.... and order garlic fries :-)

The seafood here is great, and if you start coming in for lunch on Fridays fairly regularly the staff definitely remembers you and your orders.

The only thing I think this place could use is a little more light and an updated interior, it comes across as a little dirty when you first come in, but the food is definitely delicious.

Love this place for a nice friday Lunch.

If you want incredibly fresh and delicious seafood, fried, broiled, or grilled for unbelievably inexpensive prices, come to DP's.

Cheap draft beer (my fave is the Lobster Ale) and reasonably priced drinks.

I tried DP's after reading about them on yelp and have encouraged several friends and coworkers to try it.  They are all hooked and totally in awe of how delicious the food is here.  I became an instant fan after my first visit.

Advice for your first visit: Get the garlic sauce on the fries! You will not be sorry!

Love this place! I work less than 5 mins away from the bar. Discovered it last summer when I worked in saddle brook and am so glad I did.

I'm a seafood fanatic and this place serves fresh seafood including raw clams, oysters, and soft shell crabs (the BEST) at a very low price. Been here about 5 times and always enjoyed it every time.

The place is inconspicuous from the outside and dark and biker bar like on the inside but the food is good so that's all I care about since I came here to EAT!

I wish they put more menus on the wall since I dont always sit next to the 2 menus they do have on the wall and I can't see very well especially in the dark xD

Will def come back again and again since I'm always around the area. Sometimes I stop by work just so I can go here for food on my way back home (I live half an hr away!)

So I finally made it to DP's. Even on a Wednesday night there was about a 1/2 hour wait.
The place was worth the wait.
First off, unbelievable prices. .95 cents for a hot dog?? $2.75 for 5 mozzarella sticks?? $4.95 for mussels?? Great prices for good food.
I loved the sauce on the mussells. Our order of fried shrimp  hit the spot. The broiled scallops were great..... Nothing fancy.....,just 10 scallops broiled and nicely seasoned with a side of rice.....soo good!  ( although the rice was just ok......maybe I'll get pasta next time as the side).  The shrimp scampi was great too!

The only drawback for me was the wait for a table and that it took about 25 minutes for any of the food we ordered to come out. When I come back I'll try to come earlier and/or on a Monday or Tuesday when hopefully its not as crowded.

Obviously everyone on Yelp appreciates good food, as I'm sure everyone has managed to splurge on the occassional gourmet meal here and there. I've been guilty of dropping an obscene amount while picking up the tab (and later wishing I'd saved the money for rent instead) at some swanky jacket-required dress coded Michelin Star restaurant, and while the whole exerience of getting all dolled-up and dining on fine china is something I highly recommend everyone try at least once, truth of the matter is that not all of us are lucky enough to afford that kind of lavishness on a regular basis. Then again, not all of us like the idea of dining on starchy white linen table cloths with polished silverware either.

So when one happens to stumble across great food in a PUB without any frills and without prices that break the bank you know you've found yourself a keeper. Forget everything I've just been discussing about fine dining- DP's is anything but. In fact, it's the complete opposite. Completely unpretentious from the outside, if not for a neon sign and a residential speed limit you'd miss it if you blinked. This is the kind of place you go to to let your hair down, dressed in shorts and flip-flops in the summer, to throw back a nice cold beer at the bar (or one of their excellent Martinis in the winter. Oh, heck- sure, why not any time of the year?). And this place one could easliy call a dive, but a dive that serves the most amazingly fresh and criminally inexpensive seafood- and food in general- I've ever known in all my dining adventures in America.

Weekend dinner crowds will attest to this- families, friends and regulars make the waiting time for a table, or even a seat at the bar, sometimes up to a half hour long, and again with good reason. I always start with the fried clams, a little bowl of heaven which costs only $1.75, and usually lean towards the broiled salmon as my entree. All seafood entrees come with a small salad (just a simple iceberg salad with choice of dressing) and choice of fries or pasta, which hardly hurts the wallet (the salmon is $7.95). Other items on the menu include Clams on the Half Shell for $6.75, Shrimp Scampi at $4.95, Shark Steak for $8.95, Chicken Parmigana at $7.95, and Broiled twin Lobster Tail- the most expensive item on the menu- for only $13.95. They have burgers and sandwiches as well, starting at $1.95 for a grilled cheese and not going past $5.95 for a Cheese steak. I once treated a 190-pound friend to dinner here, and he ordered two cheeseburgers thinking they were going to be small due to the price ($2.35). He ended up having a cheeseburger for breakfast the next day...

The food is absolutely phenomenal, and even on a packed evening service flows like a well-oiled machine, men working the kitchen and women behind the bar and expertly navigating the floor. The atmosphere is always buzzing with high energy on nights like these but despite how busy things get their turn-over is nothing short of ridiculous either. And even if seating is snug and the interiors are not much to give a second thought to, the dining experience here is still comfortable and never feels rushed; the noise level isn't so crazy that you can't have an easy conversation with anyone at your table without having to strain your vocal chords. And overall everyone there- albeit the staff or patrons- are always so friendly, just the way any family establishment should be.

Now, to make things perfectly clear- I didn't give DP's a five-star rating for its impressive interiors, the presentation of the food or its Michelin Star service. No, I give DP's five-stars for the fact that the quality and taste of their food, for the price, is top-notch; for the fact that the service, though casual and lacking flair, is fast and efficient; and that the overall feel of the place makes you want to just kick back with another beer while contemplating another bowl of fried clams- after (just) finishing dessert.

Last couple of words to the wise: Garlic Fries. DO IT. And this is a cash-only establishment so please come prepared, lest you end up the way I did the first time I dined here, leaving my wedding ring at the bar as collateral as I walked around trying to find the nearest ATM. The closest machine was out of service that night as well, but that's a whole other story meant for another blog...

A friend of mine told me about this place...we are both foodies and especially love seafood.  On the drive there, she kept telling me not to judge the place until I try their food and she kept telling me how dirt cheap it was.

I have to admit that I was still skeptical upon parking, but trust her judgement.   We walked in and it was very dimly lit.   We sat down at the bar and ordered a drink and I asked for menus.   The bartender was very friendly and informed me that the menu was on the wall.   No big deal...you just read the menu that is on the wall.  They have their regular menu and then handwritten daily specials.   I was still very skeptical when I saw that a shrimp cocktail was only $3.95!   We ordered a bunch of appetizers...2 shrimp coctails, steamed clams, french fries with garlic sauce, crab claws, and a few other things I'm missing, since we've returned many times since.   The cocktail sauce is a little bland, so I always ask for a side of horseradish to mix in with it.

For their low prices, I was absolutely amazed at the quality of the food.   The crab claws (when they have them) are outstanding.  I was very impressed with the food.
That first time, we had multiple appetizers and a couple of drinks each and our bill was only around $45.00.  I couldn't believe it.

As I previously stated, I have returned many times since.  There are always regulars in there, who are friendly.   The bartenders are friendly and make a nice drink.

They have a small, dirt parking lot behind the building, which can be a bit tricky getting out of if there are a lot of cars.   There is also street parking if you're fortunate enough to find an open spot.

This is definitely not a place to go for a romantic evening or upscale dining, but for some good, inexpensive seafood and drinks, this is the place to go.  BTW, they do have items other than seafood on their menu, but I always get the seafood.   After eating dinner there one evening, I did order a turkey club sandwich to take home to have as a late night snack...(I couldn't resist at $3.95) and it was very good!

Don't be put off by the outside (or inside) of the place.   A great find!

Freshest seafood prepared simply and at shocking prices.  They cut out the middle man by going to Hunts Point themselves, guess thats how they get away with the prices.  Can get real busy but the staff do a good job getting things to you as quickly as possible....matter of fact, they can be quite entertaining to watch, they have it down to a science.  Stick with what they are known for:  garlic fries, seafood, sliced steak.  The marinara sauce is adaquate but if your Italian and expect real Italian then go to an Italian place.  The fries are not bland, they are just not seasoned...which is better so that you can season them to your liking....seasoned fries are cheap and gross anyway!  And besides, the regulars know that the garlic sauce is the way to do the fries.  Ask about their 201 Magazine editors pick "Best Hidden Gem"  back in I think 2009....they are proud but modest....

And don't be intimidated....staff are friendly and welcoming....looks are deceiving from the outside!!!

DP`s Is Unfortunately Owned And Run With A Bad Attitude  Backwards Business Sense So Watch Your Check  Nobody Seems To Care  Cash Only  ATM On Site That Runs Out Of Money Often  Drinks Are Small And Weak And They NEVER Buy Back!

The food is pretty good depending on the day (they pick up fish on Wednesdays) the prices are reasonable but the portions are very small. Many of the fish entrees are smothered in this house sauce the call "goop", its salty chicken broth & butter thickened with corn starch ask for yours without. Other dishes are a greasy mess so if you think your eating well think again.

Staff is efficient, but often angry and/or aloof. Coffee drinks are killer and they have a open kitchen that can crank out some good food in a hurry despite the junk equipment the kitchen uses. You really need to know what to order here or you will be disappointed. Not the cleanest place, it's dark and dank a total dive bar! I took many photos of the dishes they serve here but the place is so dark, I apologize for the quality.

Good on a budget but much better seafood and service can be had at Seafood Gourmet and it's BYOB.

To pass it is to think that it has been closed for years, . . . to walk up to it can be intimidating at first, . . . but once you step inside, you are greeted with a crowd, and a table (although sometimes there can be up to an hour wait) , and when you take a glance at the menu (on the wall behind the bar as well as toward the door from the back of the restaurant) you will find that you have hit the Seafood JACKPOT!

If you are a Seafood lover like me, but you don't want to have to spend $50 + for what could end up to be a mediocre dinner, DP's is the place to go!!  I have been going to DP's for 15+ years, and am totally in love with it.  I have never had anything I didn't love from there.  My absolute favorite are the Scallops, Broiled!  I never get fried entree's from DP's, always broiled Seafood.  It is all seasoned the same, and tastes fresh and delicious!  The quality and freshness is consistent, as are the fantastic prices.  If you haven't been there yet, you are missing out!

I read some reviews below, and have a few things to clarify:

    - French Fries ARE bland, unless seasoned, . . . if you are a "seasoned" DP's goer, you know to get Garlic Sauce (more like Gravy) on your fries!  You will never say they are bland again.

    - Parmesan??  Hmmm, Does DP's look like an Italian Restaurant?  Do you get that vibe from walking into there?  I didn't think so, . . . please, if you are a picky sauce eater (ie. Italian) then don't order sauce from places that are not, nor do they claim to be Italian.  It is not going to be good.

I thought it was a biker bar as I was driving up to it. There were several motorcycles parked outside. I had to park around the block since there was nothing but construction across the street. I was a bit intimidated to walk in by myself because I didn't know what to expect once inside. All apprehensions vanished the minute I walked through the door to find a dark but comfy friendly neighborhood dive bar.

It was a Thursday night, about 7:30, and the place was packed. There was one empty seat in the house and that was the one that my friend was saving for me at the bar. All of the tables that lined the walls were full of couples and families enjoying their dinners. Everyone at the bar was eating also. The service, all waitresses, was fast and friendly.

We ordered Clams Casino, Oysters on the half shell, Crab Claw Cocktail, and Shrimp Cocktail. All of it was delicious. Some of the best I've had. Fresh and very reasonably priced. At one point during the night the conversation went like this:

Me: "I can't really see the left column of the menu from here, but I think it says Fried Clams on the top."

Friend, leaning over to see better: "Yup. Fried Clams."

Me: "Does the price say $4.95 or $11.95? Can't make it out."

Friend: "Looks like it says $1.95."

    Me: "For real?"

Me (used to NYC prices and wanting to verify) to the server: "Excuse me, how much are the Fried Clams? I can't really see from here."

    Server: "$1.95."

Me: "Can I get an order of Fried Clams please?"

Basically, if you're in the mood for some really good seafood at really good prices and don't mind old and dingy dive bar decor, visit DP's Pub. I plan on returning often.

    Dark & dingy but delicious & da-best

Saying that DP's is "awesome" or "mad dope" will not do the place justice, it is special by all means. There are few establishments left in NJ or anywhere that offer cheap, seasonal foods and beverage. I said SEASONAL, they've been doing seasonal and fresh before seasonal and fresh was a "new" concept. The fish menu changes based on what's fresh, they add beers based on the season.

DP's is not exactly farm to table heirloom tomatoes but more like ocean to truck to bar awesomeness. They slice their own pastrami from a large chunk, they serve a heaping slab of catfish for their cajun catfish, & they make a buttery garlicky loaf of garlic bread for $1.95!!! they do it right.

    We ordered:
    Riverhorse lager on tap
    2 ginger ales
    1 bottle of water
    crab claw cocktail
    bacon wrapped scallops
    Garlic Bread
    Pastrami sandwich on rye
Cajun Catfish with pasta & a salad
    Shrimp Scampi
    Tiramisu
Coffee.......$45.25.....We gorged ourselves and still had leftovers. You could easily be satisfied with a few things on the menu to keep the price under $25 for 2 people.

Don't be intimidated when you step inside, just wait a second for the waitress, while you are waiting stare at the paper menu on the wall behind the bar, and choose wisely.

I found this place via Yelp. I never would have thought to go here otherwise. It was the reviewer who mentioned they get their seafood fresh from NYC every day who convinced me to go.

The ambiance is non-existent. It is a dive bar with some TVs, and old old woodwork for walls, bar and seat. However, that isnt a bad thing, as sometimes you are in the mood for that, and everything is very clean.

The seafood is very very very fresh. They have a set menu and a list of daily specials. The specials sell out fast, especially on the weekends.

Speaking of which, if you arrive after 6 on a Friday or Saturday, expect to wait over 30 mins for a seat at the bar, and double that for a table.

If you stick with what they do well, you cant go wrong--the food is amazing! They do anything on the grill well: seafood, burgers, etc. I haven't had the steak, but I imagine it is good too.

The only reason it isnt 5 stars is not everything on the menu is totally stellar. My fiance had shrimp parm and while the shrimp was cooked to perfection, the tomato sauce was straight out of a can. Likewise I find the fries there to be rather bland. But fish and meat are amazing
