I was going to give this place 4 stars until I heard they proudly don't serve Coke products. Who needs it when you serve awesome ice tea and lemonade. Definitely worth the extra star. My lunch mate had the well mentioned Beet Yammich. It was refreshing and she called it one of the best salads she ever had. I went with the Dragonfly enchilada and it was so good even if a nary of dragonfly meat was to be found. Service was exemplary. A definite dining stop in Taos.

Like Alice Waters moves to Taos, but she doesn't quite get the details right, or maybe she can't find skilled chefs to make it happen. The ambiance is exactly right, and the menu is inspired. Some dishes, like the mushroom pate or lemon risotto were nearly perfect. The buffalo burger (I'm sad to report) was like a thin, dry, hockey puck (I can't believe they asked me how I wanted it cooked ("medium," I requested), then they brought a 1/2 inch thick patty that was nothing if not well-done!  And the greens weren't completely fresh (Alice Waters would never do that)

Why did I love this place anyway? The "hockey puck" was on a homemade bun with delicious cheese. The zucchini biscuits were fresh out of the oven, and the mushroom pate came with a generous wedge of blue cheese. Also, my wife's sangria was terrific.  Not everything was just right, but it was made with care, and the place was cozy and tastefully decorated. I'll be back!

When an establishment has this high a rating after 50+ reviews I am immediately curious. Rare indeed is the place that can obtain such levels of acclaim without tipping over at least a little. But, brave Yelpers, let me assuage you, this place lives up to the hype.

It is a hippy-run place. Expect skirts, pigtails, patchouli smells. Also expect some of the best food around. These hippies love their food, and they take pride in sourcing things locally and organic. They also take care in preparing things fresh, and making sure you're satisfied with your food.

I had the bison burger, it was delicious. The eggs Dragonfly are also delicious, a unique spin on eggs Benedict. If you're into sweets this place will not disappoint, as they have a nice assortment of pastries to choose from. Cakes, tarts, cookies, you'll have something to satisfy your sweet tooth.

From what I gather, the locals love this place. I was seated on the patio and there were more than a few people that rolled up and hugged a server or two. A good sign, if ever there was one.

"This place is wonderful! Sweet setting away from the busy plaza, superior service, delicious and interesting tapas and well selected international wine flight. Perfect culmination to long day in the road."

This is one of those hippy-run restaurants that replenishes one's soul.

"Raw" (actually massaged) Kale salad with grilled pear slabs, house-made ricotta, toasted hazelnuts with a minimalistic dressing fully recharged us after our long drive.

Then we took our waitresses recommendation on the beef stew.  I grew up in Wisconsin and  have traveled the world and I have never had a better beef stew than this.  It had this lucid thickness and the depth of flavor almost made you close your eyes to fully appreciate it.  All the vegetables were not over cooked and still maintained a proper texture and it was plated nicely.

This was all served with house-made bread that was earthy and delicious.

We were lucky enough to get this secluded window seating that had tons of pillows and a great view of their stone garden.

Sweet lovely place... every time we visit Taos we go there... Great place... lovely decor and the food its delicious except for the dessert... The are always dry and blend :(  Our last visit was great until we got the check... The server poured us the wrong glass of wine :( We ask for a $9 glass and she opened a bottle of something else and charged us $15 by the glass???  So we paid for her mistake??? Not Nice... We'll be back of course but next time we'll get the bottle to avoid confuse :)

Cute atmosphere (I love that each table has a unique table cloth and set of salt and pepper shakers!). Good food - I had the kale salad. Thought the squash on top could have been roasted longer, and the homemade ricotta was a little bland, but the roasted tomato vinaigrette was great, and overall it was a solid dish. From what I've seen on here, I think they change up the menu often. Definitely mostly "hippy food", but with a couple of heartier meaty options for the carnivores in your party. I saw two people get the chicken pot pie, and also 2 get the special black bean soup. Since those were the other items I had considered, I spied on them a little to see if I should have buyer's remorse. From what I could tell, they were very satisfied with their choices, and the pot pie was huge.

Service in some ways went above and beyond. I heard a couple ask to split a dish, and the waitress told them she could serve it split for an extra $2 (which is not uncommon, I've found) or she could just bring it regular with an extra plate at no extra cost. I thought it was really cool she gave them their options rather than just saying "yes, for $2 more" or worse (but sadly also common) not telling them about the surcharge. When I asked if they served iced coffee, the waitress said "I can make one for you", which implied to me that either they don't typically do that, or typically only sell it in the bakery section, so I thought that was nice. She also brought me a second one, which for something off-menu also seemed really nice, and I only got charged once, $2, which seems like a good price.

Now, the bakery. I was a little sad they didn't have any regular cake, since that's what I was craving (they had cheesecake and a gluten free/flourless cake). I got a chocolate, port, and caramel tartlette instead, which was heavenly.

There were very few customers since it was kind of an off hour (2:30pm), and even still the service was a little on the slow side, but to me it was more "take your time, relax, enjoy" slow, not "oh my god where's the waitress?" slow, though I can see how if you were in a rush you'd be frustrated.

Our last night before we head back home & decided to have dinner with my wife.  We picked the Dragonfly because of all the reviews.  We were not disappointed at all.
We arrived at 5:30 pm & the restaurant was nearly full.  This restaurant has limited seating, maybe seating 30. It has a quaint feeling which is special.  Now onto the food.  We ordered a kale salad, the risotto & the mahi mahi special.  The food must be the best in Taos. It is well presented & the texture & taste is exquisit. The owner, Karen, came out & walked the restaurant & greeted her guests. Nice touch. We will be back when we return to Taos.

This is almost right next door to the El Pueblo Lodge and their desk staff had recommended Dragonfly to us and it did not disappoint.  We had already partaken of the motel's continental breakfast but after an hour or so out in freezing wind at the Rio Grande Gorge bridge to catch some photos with daylight breaking I needed to warm up my insides and we stopped in originally with the intent to just get coffee or hot chocolate.  But the menu was so appealing we ended up having breakfast again.  I had a bison burrito.   On the way out to pay THEN we discovered the fabulous baked goods they have.  This place is north out of town from the Plaza area but on the way to the ski areas.  Definitely worth a visit for breakfast.

Had a fabulous meal tonight at Dragonfly. Arrived about 8 pm to an empty place. The waiter Jon was friendly and helpful. The fresh kale salad was a knockout and the bison burger with cheddar and green chiles was perfectly done. When you go ask for extra bacon and pesto biscuits. The are worth every bite. This place should be crowded every night. And yes, we finally has some company later on.

The "Taos Lady" can be seen at the Dragonfly. She is everywhere here; tan arms, flowing fabrics, a belt bigger than a rodeo star's, jeans tighter than imaginable, and most likely wearing a cowboy hat and turquoise boots. She's beautiful. The "Taos Man" is a waiter here. He cares not about anything, especially coffee levels or coming to our table. I thought the food was ok, possibly healthier tasting than it had to be. The salmon tacos were disappointing - but all salmon is disappointing after spending the entire summer in a salmon fishing village in Alaska. But the copious amount of aioli confused me...and made me lose my appetite. The lamb gyros were fine I guess. The beet goat cheese terrine was just beets and goat cheese on a plate. The soup was like some sort of lentil or other healthy bean mush with chai-high levels of cardamom and a dose of cumin so heavy that it could be used to deter spice-shy British rule vampires. I donated it to my dad who ate the hippy soup with gusto. The "other Taos Man" was a palm reader who read my friends' palms for free. If he told her we should have eaten somewhere else, I would have been an instant believer.

It's really nice and relaxing out on that patio in the summer though and the baked goods are apparently very good. I had dessert but I forgot what it was. It was tasty I guess. I wasn't in a place to remember anything unless it had meaning and dessert doesn't often mean much to me. I have a feeling this place is normally much better - but if mine was the worst experience you can have at the Dragonfly then you're doing alright.

Good and unusal food.  The Beet and goat cheese salad thing was DELICIOUS!  We ate outside under the tree and they accept dogs on the patio.  Friendly service and I'll be back when we come to Taos again.

First the good news.  The food is fresh and excellent, the atmosphere very warm, and the servers extremely friendly.  Our group of six locals had a fine meal outdoors under the umbrellas. My Greek plate was really tasty, as was the trout two of us had. The bad news:  the service was unreasonably slow (and we are not in a hurry when we go out) even to the point where we cancelled another bottle of wine because it would not have appeared until after dessert.  The crowning glory was that we had asked for separate checks (not an unreasonable request in Taos in a group of 3 couples) and instead, after saying they would do it, they arrived at the table with one check and a calculator and told us to figure it out ourselves.  Frankly, inexcusable and insulting, especially since we didn't skimp on our meals, or the bill. We would go back but Dragonfly needs to get its act together.  Read some other reviews here and you will see that this service issue is common.  Wonder if they ever read them, or if they even care?

This place is totally worth the stop and weird parking situation. They have a small, but excellent menu that changes seasonally. This is not a get-ranch-with-my-salad kind of place. We had a large party and we were immediately seated upon arrival.

The food varied from a lovely beet and goat cheese terrine to a delicious soup of the day (ham and bean when we went) to fantastic bison burgers and curry chicken salad sandwiches on croissant. The bun for the bison burgers was a delicious, homemade rosemary foccacia, the croissant was home made, the soup was served with homemade bread slices. Prices were average for the area tourist restaurants, but the quality was unparalleled. I love that they clearly had local farmers from whom they regularly purchased their ingredients and the service was as delightful as the food.

Try this place out! It's slightly hippie and pure deliciousness!

PS -- try a dessert! We grabbed some cookies on the way out and it was totally worth it!

This place is really cute and nice. The menu is full of variety and exciting, unique dishes (goat cheese, white bean enchiladas were great). The bakery is very good and fresh (coconut cream pie was too).

However, we were there for 2 hours. My mom's sister was getting married the very next day and we both had nothing to wear (you don't pack for surprise out of nowhere weddings when you travel, ya know?). The service was miserably slow, we saw our waitress 3 times during those 2 hours, and other waitresses had to fill our waters since she was so busy off doing other things (who knows what!). It was the worst service I have ever had in my life, and that's saying something.

This should have been a 5 star review, but our experience was honestly horrible beyond the food. My mom even disliked her meal because she ordered it without the goat cheese, which made it extremely bland and spicy. I recommend going here, but maybe tell your waitress you're in a hurry or something because 2 hours is ridiculous.

Great food in a great setting. Outdoor seating is right off the main road in Taos but you wouldn't know it. Service was friendly although quite slow at times.

We went for lunch but were treated to brunch as it was sunday. Food was fresh and healthy with unique flavors. Wish we had gone back for dinner as well....

We liked this place so much we came back twice in the same weekend- once for dinner, and once just for desserts. The food and desserts here are well worth the price (desserts around $6 each; entrees start at $12-21)- generous portions, fresh ingredients, and satisfying flavors. I loved my chicken confit on top of polenta, draped with chard; my partner liked his pork carnitas/corn dumplings soup. The baked goods in their pastry case are amazing; my faves are the blueberry/lemon tart and  the chocolate/dulce de leche/sea salt tart. Dinner came with "dinner biscuits", which were warm fennel biscuits. Our server was great- friendly, but not overly perky- and we enjoyed sitting on the front patio. Can't wait to come back here next time we're in Taos.

Lunch last week here. Sat outside, it's near the road but the two fountains drown out the traffic sounds (and really, it's Taos, there's not much traffic). They had pretty wind wheels up and outdoor ambiance was very nice.

Service was friendly and casual- they had a wine list with average prices, $10/glass

I had Bi Bim Bop, which was not authentic but still healthy and good (the kimchee was authentic and spiced well, it was just not served in the cauldron which crisps up the rice so well). To be fair, we lived in San Jose for a few years so I was eating some serious Korean food there and realize this was a local version of that. It had cauliflower, brocolli, brown rice, carrots, just tons of veggies. I cleared my plate so can't complain :)

We got a chocolate ganache cupcake to go along with a chocolate eclair and a lemon tart that was AMAZING. This is a good find.

We just stopped in for an afternoon snack and coffee. My friend had peanut butter cookies that she said were amazing. I had an almond croissant which was also wonderful. It was actually split and filled with an almond paste that just added that extra something.  The table near us was raving over the soup of the day, so we asked for a sample. The waiter actually brought us a small bowl. The next table was so right. It was delicious. If we had another day, we would have returned for lunch.

After our lunch and a stroll through 'downtown' Taos, we had a serious sweet tooth. I had spied Dragonfly while we were driving by and really wanted to stop and visit, so we moseyed on over that way. When we walked into the renovated house, you could tell this was a place that the locals frequented. People were hanging out and chatting over their lunches, a fantastic atmosphere.

We headed to the back where the bakery display was. My sis-in-law and I drooled over the offerings, sampled a couple and finally decided to get the salted de leche chocolate tart, ancho raspberry jam filled baked chocolate mousse tart and the lemon tart. A pretty penny at $6/piece but well worth the money knowing the ingredients were organic and local (where possible). Everything was perfect.

So perfect, in fact, that the hubs and I headed back there for dinner, just the two of us. I was amazed how they transformed the hang out spot into a rom dulche antic dinner destination. It was lovely. We sat and perused the menu and wine list - great options at nice price points. We both enjoyed our wines, although I can't recall what we ordered - our waitress did a wonderful job pairing our wines with our meals. We had the cheese plate special (we were hooked when the waitress said cambozola - my fav!) which was a great light opener to the meal. The hubs had the bison burger - which was cooked perfectly medium rare, and I had a ravioli special with a beautiful lemon sauce. The food was wonderful, carefully executed and the service was great.

If we end up in Taos again, we will be back!

I seriously love Taos. Everything about the place jives with me. The clean air, the mountains encircling the town on three sides, the desert on the fourth, the rainbows after the rain, the magical sunsets, the healthy outdoor but also intellectual lifestyle. The hot springs, the liberal-minded folks, the great places to eat. I'd kiss Montreal good-bye tomorrow with it's horrible roads and pissy politics and come down here if I could.

Dragonfly Cafe is a very typical Taos establishment. People meaning very well and dammit, trying their best to make a go of a new place and in doing so, creating a soft, magical space.

I'll split my review in two parts, 1 for food and 1 for the people. Came here today for brunch and unfortunately they were having problems in the kitchen and the plate I received was practically all burnt through. I don't blame them,  these things happen in the best of places.

However having said that, they were very kind towards me.The owner even came to my table and apologized for my plate and was gracious enough to not charge me a penny because she felt so bad. Not many places in this day and age would do that.  Even while I was waiting, they gave me a complimentary biscotti to accompany my tea.
I'm going to try to come here again before I leave to try out their curry dinner since it seems to be the only place which might serve Indian food in Taos.

It's unfortunate my plate came out the way it did but I'll give an A+ to the folks here for their kindness.

Maybe we were at Dragonfly on an off day, but I can't say I was as impressed as I expected to be after so many great reviews here on Yelp.  The cafe IS cute, there is no denying that, and we were able to sit in the "coveted" window booth with all the pillows.  It was cool, cloudy day so the booth was the perfect spot; we were able to lounge comfortably and watch a surprising variety of birds come to drink at the fountain right outside the window.

Service was okay, nothing special.  The staff was effecient, if not particularly friendly.  The food, also, was only okay, when you averaged out the dishes we had.  I was hoping to find a good place to feed my vegetarian boyfriend, but one of the two dishes he could eat was unavailable, for unknown reasons.  He got the smoked mushroom and quinoa salad which he seemed quite pleased with.  He liked the mushrooms a lot and the salad was sizeable (as it should be for $12).  He also got a little side of hummus which was unremarkable.  I had the "pot pie", though, which was disappointing.  First off, a pot pie should have a bottom and side crusts, in my book, not just a bowl of filling with a crust on top.  I must admit to being thankful in the end, though, because the pastry crust was SO thick on top that having a bottom and sides would have been way too much.  It was seriously about 3/4" thick; way too much for such a small bowl.   The filling was only okay too; mostly gravy with shredded chicken in it and a scattering of vegetables.  Not the warm, filling, chunky pot pie I was hoping for on such a grey day.

Don't know if we'd return or not.

This was hands down my favorite non-Mexican place in Taos.

Dragonfly Cafe is probably what Chez Panisse was like in the 80s--simple, local ingredient driven, and run by people who are artisans of food.

The ambiance here is wonderful; simple, wooden, cute. And the food, incredible. I had the best crossiant I've had outside of NY or SF here. Perfectly crunchy but soft with a subtle almond flavor....yum!

    Great atmosphere and delicious food!
The menu offered entrees for vegetarians and meat eaters.  The building is very small so call ahead to make reservations.  When I went there were only two servers so it did take a while to have our orders taken and to get our food.  If you're in a rush go somewhere else.

You could totally 'tickle me surprised' after eating at this place. It was excellent. Lots of outdoor seating, and well assigned so you didn't feel like you were falling over everyone else on the porch area.

There's a great mix of locals and renegade tourists that visit the place and overall you get a calm vibe from the whole place.

Definately one of the better places in Taos service wise. There's something about 'the land of tomorrow' that always causes my food to come out longer than I expect, or drink refills to be filled or my check to arrive or be processed. Not here. My lady-friend and I felt well taken care of by the staff.

Food wise, I went with the veggie burrito. I'm a die-hard meat lover but people, if you find yourself in a restaurant with more than half the menu catering the grazers, you're better off venturing onto the wild side.

The grilled veggies inside of my burrito were well cooked. Not overdone to mush or over burned. The texture with the fresh napa cabbage added a nice crispness as well. My side of potato salad was memorable and licked clean off the plate.

My lady got the salad sampler which is a little of all of their veggie salad offerings as well as some hummus and tabbouleh. The hummus needed a couple more moments of processing in my mind, but it all tasted good, fresh, and placed with tender care.

Prices were competitive with what you'd expect for Taos.

It was my birthday and because I had seen some good comments about this place, I chose to have a late lunch here with the hubby.

If your hubby is a manly man, this place will not meet his needs.  The food is light, servings were small, and prices seemed high.

Loved the server and I enjoyed my curried chicken salad. Instead of a croissant I asked for it to be served on greens and she was agreeable.  The greens had dressing on them, though, and since the curried chicken salad was bound with a mayo type dressing, to combine the two dressed salads seemed like overkill. So, if you want to switch to greens, you might want to be more specific than I and say, "No dressing."  Hubby had a bison burger, but for $12 dollars, he wanted some fries with that burger! It was served with a green salad, which he polished off, but didn't think that he had enough food.
I will be back, but it will be with a lady friend or my daughter since the manly man wasn't impressed.

My boyfriend and I came here to drown our sorrows in deliciousness after some jerk smashed out one of the windows in our car. One very loud car ride later (garbage bag taped over the window-classy), we reached the Dragonfly, and were seated in the cutest little alcove that looked over the garden. The alcove was lined with cushions, and the ambiance of the place was really cozy and comforting.

To drink, I ordered a Rio Grande IPA, which I had never heard of before. It was exceptional. The beer selection is quite good. For my meal, I chose the curry chicken salad, which was served on top of a croissant with a green salad on the side. It was DIVINE. I'm still dreaming about it, and can't wait to go back. I usually don't even like curry chicken salad, but something was just drawing me to it, and I'm really glad I ordered it.

The only downside was the pricing (an average of 12-14 per plate), which wasn't exorbitant, but if you're in you are young and struggling it is kind of a splurge. However, it is a splurge I don't regret. I can't wait to go back!

Our La Dona Luz B&B angel, Paco, told us to check this little adobe home turned sweet, gourmet spot.  We arrived on Cajun night which although sounded pretty fantastic, there weren't tons of vegetarian items (I don't eat creatures, on surf nor turf) due to oodles of shrimp concoctions however Dienke, the cutest Dutch waitress you ever did see encouraged our return (you couldn't say no to her braided pigtail framed face and uber-friendly disposition).

I'm so glad we returned  to the Dragonfly Cafe tonight, it was so lovely.

The Roasted Vegetable salad was so nourishing and divine... the bread soaked balsamic reduction sauce involved made the perfect crunchy, squish- I wouldn't even sink as low to call them croutons but maybe the Grand High Priestesses of breaddy salad adornments. The pumpkin gnocchi was a first-of-its-kind for me having been put on the fire after boiling to ensure a slight glaze that complimented the bleu cheese sauce and grizzled leeks and roasted pistachios.  Oh my!

The owner, a super hard-working mom of two with a great laugh named Karen, ended up stopping by our table after we finished our final plates.  It's inspiring to know so much heart goes into her place- whether that's her ordering in fine chocolates from Germany for the housemade desserts, bringing in eggs for her recipes from her 50 hens at home, making sure every "waste" goes into a compost, growing a garden and providing fresh, seasonal sun-warmed and hand-picked vegetables... this woman is sensational and can seriously handle the kitchen pulling out stops left and right for up to 200 patrons in one day (during peak summer season) solo.  She's a force of awesome that's for sure.

I want to give this whole restaurant a hug, it's like the Best Friend Forever Restaurant I never had and can't wait to experience again upon my next visit to Taos!

This is a great Brunch/ Lunch place.  The food is interesting ranging from the rib eye omelet to the vegetable frittata with potato crust. The pastries are OK but could be a bit better (a little less herbs) I do think this is a must eat at in Taos however, super cute, charming and fun!

    Cutest restaurant ever.

Our waitress was super nice and excited to learn that we were from Orange County. Apparently all of her favorite metal bands call OC home, so she kept asking questions like "what's it like out there?" I answered with things like "umm I don't know", and she still liked me.

The menu is full of organic, interesting creations. I got a brie and trout quesadilla (I know, the mood just struck me), and the bf had a veggie sandwich or something. They have mint sprigs floating in the water pitchers for added freshness, and apparently have some out of control desserts.

On top of that, Taos was a really cool place. Not what I'd envisioned for New Mexico (you mean there's a NEW mexico?!?)

Worth the trip. That waitress was cool. I hope she makes it out here to Orange County and is not as thoroughly disappointed as i am.
