This was a random stop while visiting Taos Pueblo. We were actually looking for somewhere else to eat, but were unable to locate our destination. Glimpsing this spot tucked into a parking lot, we made the quick turn in and parked the van.
I ordered the pork burrito, so that's all I can comment on. Despite looking like a quick, in and out sort of food cart, do not come here expecting a fast turn around. The burrito easily took 15 minutes to receive. I've grown up with Mexican food, and can see no reason why a burrito should ever take that long to prepare. That being said, we weren't in too much of a hurry, so the wait was just a slight inconvenience. When the burrito arrived, I was surprised by its heft. The thing weighed a ton, and had a nice ratio of meat to rice and beans. It wasn't anything fancy, but the pork was seasoned well, the tortilla seemed fresh and the side of hot sauce added a nice zing.
It wasn't an earth-shattering meal, but it was tasty and filling. I would certainly stop by again were I in the area.
The first place I have to hit upon arriving in Taos is Mantes. After I have hit Mante's I then try what my local friends advise I hit. I have been told by many a Taoseño to head to Mary Jane's for the chicharon burro.
I was impressed with the level of cleanliness, good service and good quality food being served here. In all, MJ is a winner and is now in my Taos rotation. The chicharon burro was two meals for me = I ate half for breakie and half for lunch. MJ's is also pretty cheap for the amount and quality of food served.
Oh and MJ sells ground Hatch ground red chilie powder. 1lb for $6!
