My opinion of this place has dropped like the IQ of their "security" staff. I was rudely escorted out while helping with a fundraiser for Habitat. It didn't matter that the bartender told them he gave me permission and none of the customers (who were quite generous) had an issue it. We were pretty regular until then. Never again.
Review Source:We stopped in on a trip to Michigan over Labor Day weekend for a break from the road and a lunch that did not involve a value meal. Â This is the first time we've ever been through Cedar Rapids and picked this spot based on the reviews and the central location close to the highway.
Over all we were so very pleased!  The place is in a section of downtown that was hit  hard by the flood from 2008 but has been restored to perfection.  It has every classic touch of a ware-house-Irish-local pub; big double doors, exposed brick, dark carpet, and a long bar.  They have a respectable selection of beers on tap and stupidly cheap happy hours.  2$ pints, if I remember correctly.
We split the Ruben sandwich and a salad. Â The Ruben was cooked to perfection. Â Meat piled high on crispy grilled rye bread slices. Â The salad was basic but satisfying. Â Our server was attentive, polite and timely. Â She did a good job sensing we did not intend to linger. Â We made it in and out in about 30 minutes.
The only thing that was a let down was that they don't offer entrees during the lunch hour. Â I suppose it was my fault for not reading into this more before stopping. Â However, we plan on trying Dublin City again for dinner on our next trip.
Met up with some friends here last weekend. Probably won't be back. This is a pretty nice place during the day/early afternoon but apparently turns into the place where all of the trashy-but-they-don't-know-it biatches hang out. Yowzers. No one looked like they were having even a teeny bit of a nice time. The staff, the bouncers (joke), the customers...it just felt awkward and tense in there. With my previous trips here, I never would have guessed it transformed into this kind of place. Decor, menu and atmosphere come across as more grown up than this.
Or maybe I'm just getting old.
My favorite downtown restaurant to grab a beer and a sandwich. Friendly staff, phenomenal atmosphere and lots of food for the price. Working my way down the menu- favorites so far are The Dublin City, Irish Lawgs (best in CR), McGuiness Tenders (huge) and DCP Burger. The Fried Cheesecake with chocolate and raspberry sauce for dessert is to die for! Great pizza too and only $5.99 on Thursdays. Have also taken advantage of the River Room multiple times, great spot for an intimate gathering.
Review Source:Great location to dine or have a night out. Very trendy and unlike most other places in Cedar Rapids. Service can be a bit slow and seem understaffed, but the food is delicious and there are always great specials going on. Can be a very busy place on weekends, but full of an energetic young adult crowd.
Review Source:Either I'm getting over Dublin or it's going down hill. Â The change of staff behind the bar is not good. Â I watched the one bartender for a while Friday night and I swear she did not smile once. Â Not. Â Once. Â I'm not asking for a foolish grin all night, but a smile when I hand you a $2 tip for getting my drink would be nice. Â Or, I dunno, maybe even a friendly "What can I get ya?" instead of just looking at me with that angry mug. Â
Other than cranky bartenders, Dublin is still one of the nicest bars in the down town area. Â It's probably the newest, it's pretty big, and the crowd is usually pretty fun. Â
Get more friendly bartenders please.
Ate here for lunch on 2/8/11. The food was good, but the portions were a little skimpy. I had the Cork City and my girlfriend had The Tipperary. They both had great flavor, but I had to open my bun when it came to make sure there was meat on it. There were a lot of fries, though. We also had the Irish Lawgs and Jimmy's Dipsticks. The Lawgs were awesome, though not very hot. The marinara was very garlicky, which I didn't mind, but someone that doesn't like a lot of garlic would have a problem with. The best part of the meal, though, was the fried cheesecake. Even though it didn't come with the sauce(they burnt the first one and probably forgot in the rush to get it out to us), it was sublime! MMMMMmmmm.
Review Source:I have had all good experiences at DCP. The service is always friendly and they are constantly doing promos and specials. If you follow them on Facebook, they have a daily lunch/dinner special, and at least Fridays and Saturdays 11p to close they have $2 rails (wells) and dom. bottles.
Beware the "bar" crowd is a younger crowd, so if you're a little older, you might feel a little out of place, but the Fieldhouse just took over DC's River Walk next door, so you might feel a little more at home there.
I love Dublin. Â I've tried not to like it, but I just can't help it. Â It has a great atmosphere, great bartenders (it probably helps that I know two of them), and there's always a super fun and diverse crowd. Â The food that I've had there has been good, although I did have fries one time that were incredibly salty. Â That's not enough to take away a star though. Â They have two floors and it seems that the younger crowd usually fills the upstairs pretty quickly after 10PM. Â There's a party room in the back of the upstairs that always seems to be in use on Saturday nights. Â I think it gets used a lot for wedding rehearsal dinners, but don't quote me on that. Â This is definitely my go to place for the weekends that I get to go out.
Review Source:So I came here tonight to meet with Ed F. about the Yelp event that we are trying to get put together which Ed has done most of the work already, and we just had to talk over stuff and walk thru the place to make sure this was the place to have the event and that the room was going to be sufficient for the event.
Ed had a couple of Beers and I had a few Captain and Coke's my drinks were very good the bartender knew how to pour a drink, and they were priced reasonably.
Dublin City is the old Muddy Water's and it has been a few other place, they have two bars one up and one down stairs they have a few games upstairs and they still have a shuffle board. Along with a room that views the Cedar River.
Overall I think this place is very nice and has a good atmosphere, this is a great place to come to meet someone, week nights are nice and laid back, weekends I'm sure it gets crowded down there.
I'm not sure how the food is but after tonight I will be going back to enjoy some food.
The one thing I saw tonight that bothered me was that a lime fell out of a beer and they put it back in the beer and squeezed the lime to get it in the beer and the juice hit my arm and face, the server didn't know that she had done it and I didn't make a big deal out of it. So I will steer clear of drinks with garnishes when I go back.
I'll agree the new Dublin is very nice in terms of appearance. Â Two floors (the old Muddy Waters), all redone and nice atmosphere. Â Its certainly very spacious. Â It seems very understaffed however. Â Every time I've been there you pretty much have to beg a server to stop by your table. Â They usually seem pretty bitter too, most likely because they are running all over the place. Â Haven't been there on the weekend so maybe they are better staffed then. Â The food I've had there has been very good. Â Haven't found anything I don't like. Â Its a cool place but good luck getting a drink.
