Stopped here on my drive to New Jersey and it was amazing! Service was friendly and food and drinks were delicious!
I'm not a huge beer person so my server let me taste a couple before I chose. I normally don't dark dark, ambers, but "Misfit Red" is definitely a must try! It has a nice strong finish that isn't bitter! Love it!
Also tried their ahi tuna salad and it was huge in portion and amazing!
Definitely plan on going back when I can!
Best place to go for a beer and to watch sports. My advice is to sit at the bar, whether its just for drinks or drinks and food. The bartenders, big shout out to Mike, are the best in town. The food menu is ever changing. Sometimes it's good, other times it just misses the mark. If you're into beer you simply must give this place a try. If you enjoy what you try, take a jug home :-). The crab pretzel and French dip sandwich are still the best items on the menu.
Review Source:Kinda pricey for mediocre food.
Luckily what I ordered was pretty good the Shrimp, Scallop Manicotti and the Sampler Beer Platter for around $10 was pretty cool since one beer cost about $5 you at least get to see what you like.
I liked the Blonde Pale Ale or Whatever it was called "Bare Ass Blonde" the Sweet Baby Jesus was not to my liking but if you like Dark coffee, chocolaty beers then go for it.
Service kinda lacked in that department was in a group of 10 so of course everything took a long time to arrive.
I live pretty close to DuClaw and have given them 4 tries to this day...My verdict for their best food is their duck fat fries which i might add are the best I have ever had. Everything else on the menu sounds so great when reading and such variety however have been disappointing. Their beer is ok though! The food isnt the best just all talk.
Review Source:After having my first dining experience at DuClaw this weekend, I thought an updated review was in order. In short ... if I were reviewing JUST the food, it would be 4 stars. But I was happy. Throw in their awesome beer, and I'll keep them at 5 stars.
I went here with the in-laws for lunch while my wife was visiting a friend. They offered some interesting specials, of which I tried the chorizo and oyster stew, and my MIL opted for the Reuben for her meal. My FIL went for The Cuban, and I went for the Greek Burger, and I just HAD to try the duck fat fries. When i got my burger, i didnt realize the olives and feta were cooked into the patty. This was great for the olives, but the feta got lost a bit. I would put the feta on as a topping instead. The duck fat fries are, indeed, greasy and fatty, but they are decadent. Both in-laws enjoyed their sandwiched. FIL enjoyed his fries, but MIL wished the house-made chips were made fresh to order - we both prefer them still warm rather than cooking them ahead of time and allowing them to cool.
The beer was, of course, still the star. My FIL enjoyed a couple of their rather strong Winter Warmer Wit. At 9%, it's a strong beer that he said had an initial bite of a German maibock, but the coriander and other spices used could be tasted. The MIL stuck with the Naked Fish chocolate raspberry stout, which tastes very much like a dark chocolate raspberry candy you get on Valentine's Day. I confirmed that the Sweet Baby Jesus was as good as I remembered, then tried their wonderful barleywine (Devils Milk) before the keg was kicked.
Overall, an excellent experience here again, and certainly a spot that I will come to again and again for good pub fare and an excellent pint of craft beer.
Beer is awesome, service was great and food was very good. Â I had a hard time staring across the bar watching some guy order Miller Lite after Miller Lite, but other than the one misfit everyone was enjoying the REAL beer.
I had the Arizona burger with the duck fat fries...delicious. Â I used the Chipolte mayo that came with the burger as a dip for the fries and I ended up licking the plate! Â Burger was cooked to order.
For beer I had the SerumXX IPA, Hellrazer IPA and the Celtic Fury. Â Both great! Â I even bought a growler of the serum to take home with me...
Dinging this place for its changing menu isn't fair...it's all about the beer!
We stopped here on our way to Laurel - a perfect stop for a light meal and a few beers!
This location is a little off of the beaten path but well worth the little detour. If you come during the week around 5pm expect it to be a little crowded but there is plenty of room for everyone.
Once again, we opted for the Arizona Burgers with Duck Fat Fries and chips. Both were excellent and we enjoyed happy hour prices as well! I started with their Sweet Baby Jesus peanut butter and chocolate porter - excellent! Next up came a Serum XX IPA which was excellent as well. I also tasted the Devil's Milk Barleywine and took a growler with me for my son.
Their menu is good and the service is great. Beers are listed on a large board and tastings are readily offered and available.
I was visiting a friend in Maryland and during our day our and about we stopped in for lunch. Awesome place - I'm hoping when I go visit again we can go there again. Had the slammers - it is the best thing being able to pick 3 different sandwiches. Beer selection is great and the staff knows their stuff. Had a great meal and great overall experience. The atmosphere is really pretty cool as far as privacy in the booths, high ceilings, and overall decor - definitely adds to the experience. Very very very recommended. I don't know if it is offered and I should have asked but a beer sampler would be awesome here.
Review Source:I went here on Saturday waiting for my car to get fixed. Â I thought the Mysterium was good. Â My boyfriend had the Black Lightening, which was surprisingly smooth. Â We sampled the Serum, and I even I liked a beer this hoppy. Â Not much to say about the food, it was edible. Â I had the crab cake sandwich. Â The patty itself tasted fine but the bun didn't seem very fresh (top was peeling off like it had been stored in a freezer). Â The fries were soggy (they had only been open for 30 minutes) and the mayo had too much cayenne pepper in it. Â Not sure if this place is worth a repeat, but I would consider picking up a growler.
Review Source:First, it isn't "Duclaws". Â When I hear locals say this, it's like hearing someone from Dundalk say "zink" instead of "sink". Â The name doesn't have to do with those things on your dog's legs.
The beer here is top notch. Â Best in the area, bar none. Â They've got the Great American Beer Festival/World Beer Cup awards and local following to prove it. Â Sure, they have Miller Lite in bottles for the unadventurous types but that's like going to a bakery and asking for Wonder Bread. Â Who does that? Â Take the training wheels off or be a sissy and drink the equivalent of a McDonald's $1 hamburger.
Service is good, atmosphere is nice. Â Food is good. Â Yeah, they've changed their menu to more of a gastropub theme but some old favorites have made it back. Â Still pretty tasty.
Once again, Duclaw has changed their menu and this time not for the better. Â I'm beginning to think Duclaw's menus are like Windows operating systems... Â every other menu is amazing. Â
The last few times I've been to Duclaw, I left so happy that I've been aching to take my husband there for the first time. Â I thoroughly enjoyed their ahi tuna appetizer amongst other things. Â So when I wanted to do lunch with a former colleague and introduce her to my new hubby, I knew this was the opportunity I had been waiting for - to introduce him to Duclaw.
And once again, not unlike the great Bill Gates, Duclaw surprised me with an update that didn't exactly knock my socks off. Â My favorite appetizer? Â Gone. Â The slider choices? Â Now severely limited. Â Several other absolute favs of mine and my daughters? Â Disappeared. Â
So I gave the menu a good onceover and thought - Boy, this veggie wrap sounds good... Â add tuna to make it .... $24?!?! Â FOR A WRAP? Â
Dear Duclaw, there's not a wrap in the world worth paying $24 for. Â Well, actually, there is but it sure as heck ain't never gonna in the same zip code as your brewery.
I ended up with the still-overpriced fish and chips for $14. Â Now.. I just returned from my wedding... Â in England.. Â so I didn't set my expectations high. Â I was still disappointed, not to mention the wait was ridiculous. For $14, it was significantly less than mediocre. Â My husband had a burger, and his official review was a shrug. Â My colleague ordered a salad, but the dressing was so garlicky it turned her off completely. Â Kudos to the waitress for taking it off the bill without us even asking. Â
Once again, Duclaw drops off the list when I consider our Abingdon / Bel Air dining choices. Â Sometimes I don't know why we ever even stray from Freddies in the first place.
Decent place, the food is kind of going for some kind of west coast crazy look like a Sous restaurant. Come on guys, people come to this place to drink beers, most beer drinkers are not sophisticated. Yea I said it, they are not. That is why they say "a champagne taste on a beer budget."
Anyhow I had the middle eastern lamb burger. It was okay but their spice mix is seriously missing cumin and coriander, two vital ingredients in middle eastern cuisine.
The watermelon salad with shrimp was good, but the dressing was the best part.
Beers, well they have some interesting things, like beer infused with tea, yea some chamomile tea in the beer. Tasted like it sounds. I feel like some of the brewers here are just adding a bunch of crap into the beers to make it appeal to the seemingly upper middle class folks in this area. This is a bad combination as it creates too many impurities in the beer. After only 3 beers at this place I woke up the next day with a rip roaring hangover.
The taste of everything was decent, the ambiance was good. But realistically, for the price in this area of town, quite frankly they have no idea what the hell they are doing here. (The cooks and the brewers.)
Great beer, surrounded by not-so-great everything else. I love brewpubs, I love beer. Â I have to tell you though, this trip to Du Claw was pretty disappointing. Â I had some good pints, and some good jerk chicken wings.
The good:
- I really enjoyed my porter, and the jerk wings. They were both good.
The bad:
- Awful pop music is awful. Â Really. Â
- Service was really slow, and I never figured out who the manager was.
- As an experiment, my buddy and I watched to see how long it would take a staffer to pick up a napkin that someone else dropped on the floor. Â I think it's still there.
- The black bean burger is way, way too much to enjoy, without at least a big fatty tomato to keep it juicy. Whoever makes these does not eat them.
- On the way out, two waitresses were squatting in a station eating spaghetti. Â I understand they have to eat, but this isn't what I wanted to see on a night with particularly slow service.
Sorry, I really wanted to write a stellar review, but I just can't.
We stop here whenever we can, return trips from vacation, visiting our niece, etc. Â I love their beers, they are creative and well-done. Â
The Cuban sandwich is one of my favorites. Â I also love the Misfit chips. Â My dipping sauce choices are Blackberry BBQ, Mango BBQ, and Cajun Remoulade.
Nice place, several choices for both beer and food. Â
I wish we lived closer.
This place is solid. Every single time I go, and I try to go often, it is exceptional service with great ambiance and delicious tasting beer and food. The menu caters to many different food diets and new items are coming.
If you are in town or just looking for a new place to try some craft beer, this is the spot!
Tuesdays are happy hour all day, Thursday is trivia and always packed - get there early!
The beer is always good, and ever-changing. Luckily, they aren't usually too too packed during their beer releases, but happy hour is the best time to visit the bar. Happy hour is 4-7 weekdays.
The food is 4 stars because of the high price and small portions. Nevertheless, it's tasty.
only been here once, but definitely enjoyed my experience. mom and I sampled a few beers and uh, a few cocktails too. the beers were not bad at all, but I generally drink bud lite. so take my opinion with a grain of salt, I suppose. they have a good bloody Mary with a house made chipotle vodka.
for dinner, we split this house specialty appetizer. I forget the name but it was a giant soft pretzel with the ubiquitous Maryland crab dip smothered on top. delicious. she ordered the sliders for dinner. they were very small, obvs, but came with a mound of those crispy, shoestring type fries. those were not bad either. she enjoyed them  on the other hand, the jambalaya I ordered was really good. tons of protein, and the sauce was delicious. would definitely recommend.
in general, it's a good local find. Bel Air is a sea of chain restaurants, and I love to support this brewery. It's not my favorite restaurant, but I would def go back to try out other things on their menu.
I went to Duclaw the last two Saturday nights with a fairly large group of friends. Everything we've had here has been delicious, whether it was appetizers, burgers, drinks, or dessert! The first time, I ordered a burger and fries which was delicious, and I got a blonde ale, and a Euforia, which is a toffee flavored brown ale. I would definitely recommend the Euforia, it was very tasty. Between the two visits, we also ordered mozzarella moons, potstickers, and the desert that has vanilla ice cream, lava cake, and blondie brownies. All of which were fantastic. The blondie brownies were my favorite!
It's great to have a brew pub in the area that also has yummy food. We will definitely be back!
Pretty good bar type food with a little bit of extra variety. In house brews are excellent and they are always pushing new ones. I haven't had anything bad from here yet. My only complaint is the Bel Air location is a little small and sometimes the wait just isn't worth it.
Make sure you get the pretzel sticks as an app and ask for honey as a dipping sauce... you won't regret it.
A big score for Yelp! I was visiting the area and used Yelp to find this gem. Very good brew pub brew (and I'm a recovering beer snob). All three brews I tried were outstanding. I even took home two growlers of Twisted Kilt Scottish Ale... That good!!
Great burger and wings served by a super friendly and attentive bartender.
If I didn't live 200 miles away I'd be a regular!
Four solid stars!!! Nobody gets a five unless they REALLY deserve it  and they were close!!!
So before my first ever trip to Edgewood, a few people told me I needed to check out Duclaw's one night, if only to sample a few of the beers. I like beer so I had no problem signing myself up for it.
The beers were actually very good. Euphoria I think was the favorite in our group - a nut brown ale that was the smoothest and most buttery I had ever had. Really good. I tried maybe 5 or 6 in all over the course of two days. Solid roster.
The food was pretty good as well. Someone had recommended the Yet Unnamed Crab Sandwich (I think that's what it was called). It's basically a crab cake, bacon, and a Dijon mayo on a pretzel roll. Delicious. I also tried one of their burgers which was also surprisingly good.
My one complaint is that the service is a little lacking. The servers were friendly enough, but it took them a long time to do something. I think part of the problem is how big the place is and how much ground each server covers. They may not come near your table for an extended period of time, so there's no opportunity to ask for something.
I'd go back here if only just to try a couple more beers and have that crab sandwich again.
Lunch at 11:45am on Thursday, January 20, 2011. Â
It was one of my employee's birthday, so I took a few of them out for lunch and recommended DuClaws in Bel Air. Â
I ordered the rib eye, medium rare. Â It arrived well done, with nothing even resembling a shade of pink on the inside. Â The manager agreed this was "well overcooked", and returned shortly thereafter with another rib eye. Â
This time, it was ok on the edge where I began eating, but a third of the way in, it was completely raw. Â But not red-raw, it was a drab brownish-pink raw, which now reminds me of meat gone bad past its expiration. Â
I didn't want to ruin the mood, so I ate about half and pushed it aside. Â Ninety minutes later, I felt very thirsty suddenly. Â Two hours later, my stomach began gurgling. Â Three hours later, I became sick. Â (I'll keep the details to myself for now.)
There's something very wrong with either the food, the cook, the management of the kitchen, or perhaps all of the above. Â I can only say that after being a DuClaws fan for the past 7 years, I will never again set foot in one, nor will I ever recommend DuClaws in Bel Air again.
Being a home-brewer myself, I have heard that the owner is a big supporter of Home-Brew clubs and brewing enthusiasts. Â This is a big plus for me.
I've been to every Duclaws and absolutely love their beer. Â On most occasions, I make it a point to try something diffeent on the menu and still haven't found something I don't like. Â Their food is very good, even if a bit pricey. Â Quality costs money and I'm willing to pay for it. Â Way to go!
Everything is so big here... The place is huge in side. The menu is never ending... And the dishes were also really large. I ordered the buffalo chicken tenders for an appetizer and I was almost full off those! They were huge pieces; I don't see why they couldn't just cut them up smaller... but anyway, they were still delicious. More on the spicy side than most buffalo sauces I eat. That makes me happy! My main dish was the crabcakes. It was pretty big too, but I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce.
My service was outstanding. And since it was a brewing company, I would recommend you try their beers... The only reason I didn't is because I don't like to drink while eating. I drink to binge drink and that's it!
Great food, great beer.... what else is there to say?
Me and my husband are regulars at DuClaw. (We live less then a half a mile away) We have never been disappointed in the food or there great micro brewed craft beer. They offer a good variety of items on there menu from salads, sandwiches, delicious burgers, and "utensils required" entrees. Â And you have to try there home made potato chips with various dipping sauces!!
There fully stocked bar is equipped to make any drink you could think of and along with there micro brewed craft beer they offer a variety of "name brand" beer.
The staff is great, and can answer any questions you may have about the different house beers they carry.
Trivia night on Thursday, Get there early if you want to sit in the bar.
Awesome happy hour special, especially when football is in season!!
I've been here twice now and have to say that it's great for the area it's in. Â However, it's not spectacular for a microbrewery. Â The bare assed blonde is my favorite beer there - the perfect mid point between a lager and a pils with plenty of hoppiness.
The food left a lot to be desired - for a restaurant that claims great food, it's more like Applebee's cuisine. Â We left here happy due to the heavy alcohol consumption but still hungry.
Oh - if you join their beer club, be prepared - it's a $65 fee. Â If you're not a local, it's definitely not worth it.
Went here the other day for dinner with some friends. Â The food was ok, but not great. Got the pub fries as an appetizer, and was kind of disappointed in them. It wasn't that large of a basket of fries, and there wasn't a set of sauces that came with it, you had to pick your own, which was fine, but the waiter couldn't get us a complete list. Â The fries were good but not great, and definitely not worth the cost of the appetizer.
The entrees were pretty good. Â My friend got the pork loin in the pastry, and I had a buffalo chicken panini. Â We tried two of the beers, but were kind of disappointed in them.
I expected more from a "micro" brewery - the bier was adequate, nothing special, not as flavorful as I like. I prefer my IPAs full of flavor and very hoppy - I was disappointed on both. Food is also adequate, decent, similar to chain restaurants such as TGIF, Chilli, etc. I imbibed in the brews a few years ago (about 2004) when the bier was brewed on site. My memory must have changed because I seem to remember a more tasty brew.
As previous reviews have stated, the restaurant was rebuilt and reopened after the original burned down. Unfortunately, the brewery was not rebuilt on the property.
If in the area, I will probably drive a few miles down to the White Marsh area. Happy hours ($2 off draft bier ends promptly at 1900/7pm).
Surprisingly delicious for a chain.
Delicious beers and great sauces are the things that will draw us back here again. Entrees were decent, but the real standouts were the platter of fries with different kinds of mustard that came with them. Du Claw has a nice atmosphere - very clean, nicely lit, high ceilings. It's a relaxing afternoon place, and we'll definitely head back for some more beer and appetizers.
Try the beer sampler if you're not sure which one you'll like, it's a nice deal.
Having just moved to Abingdon, this has become a normal happy hour dinner place. The beer is very good. Its actually one of my favorite microbrewery. You'll find they have a good selection no matter what kind of beer you like. I especially like the Misfit Red, which luckily isn't a seasonal and is there year-round.
As for the food, it's OK. They try to offer more than bar food, but I would stay away from the Thai pasta! The sandwiches on the other hand are very good, esp. the crab cake sandwich on a delicious pretzel roll. Also, try their buffalo chicken dip as an app. Its a fun atmosphere, but if you don't like beer, stay clear!
I have been here a few times over the past few months. I am new to the area from Philly (and I miss all the fabulous restaurants and brew pubs there :( ). Â I first went to the DuClaw in the Fell's Point area. Â I was happy to find one much closer to me. Â This place is a bit over top architecturally (ie giant size prints of its beers on tap) but you can see the vats and such they brew their beer in. Â It's a large space, and the tables are huge, so getting a seat for a large party shouldn't be a problem. Â They seem to have private rooms too. Â The bar area is neat and spacious. Â A good place just to grab a pint.
Ok onward about food/beer. Â My husband and I love microbrews, and we like supporting local breweries and such. Â My husband is a huge environmentalist, so we love places where we can get growlers of fresh beer to go. Â This is such a place. Â The beer is pretty good; it's outlandishly named and over the top sometimes, but the ABV is generally pretty high for their brews and their beers are always tasty.
As for food, I have gone here a few different times with different people. Â We've had the mozzarella sticks, which are good and appear to be not frozen. Â The salads are good. Â My husband generally gets their Sweet Pecan or Strawberry salad, both of which he loves. Â I have had their house salad, and it's also good. Â I haven't ventured into their entrees yet, but I have had their grilled chicken sandwich and their burger. Â They have homemade potato chips as their side, and they are good. Â The fries are good too. Â
The best part about this place for us is that it's convienent, the beer is good, and we can get a growler to go. Â They apparently distill their own liquor too, but I haven't ventured there yet...
After over 400 and some days DuClaw Bel Air is reopening in on 9/17 after fire and water damages. Â The place has a new look and a new menu (which I was excited to see because the food before was so so).
Well I had the opportunity to be an Early Bird and try the place out Friday 9/14 with the Hubby and another couple. Â Friday and Saturday they were giving their club members a FREE meal to give the servers a work out and reviews on the new menu. Â The deal was we were given 2 set up menus- 1 had appetizer and 2 entrees and the other had 2 entrees and a dessert- and we all got 2 free beers or house wines.
The 1st thing we tried was the Mozzarella Moons- which is basically mozzarella sticks in a crescent moon shaped topped with a nice chunky Mariana sauce. Â The learned they were homemade and not frozen. Â They were pretty good!!
Next my Hubby and I split the Carolina Pork BBQ Sandwich- Thinly sliced, slow-roasted pork tossed in our Carolina BBQ sauce and served on a fresh roll. Served with homemade chips (weren't impressed with this chips). Â The sandwich was good but could has had more sauce and we weren't to keen on the bun. Â But over not bad.
Next we all split the Chicken Baltimore-Sauted chicken breast topped with julienned prosciutto ham, garnished with lumb crab meat, and topped with Hollandaise sauce. Served over rice and tender asparagus. Â This was to die for! Â Oh my goodness it was GREAT! (but we all said we couldn't find the crabmeat nether-less it was YUMMY).
Then we all tried the Spicy Jambalaya-Sauted chicken, shrimp and sausage tossed with peppers and onions in a Spicy Creole sauce, served over rice. Let me just say it was SPICY- and i mean spicy. Overall pretty yummy!
The other couple split some new burger (which I can recall the name and it isnt listed online)- started with a B. Â They commented on not liking the bun also and over the burger wasn't bad.
For dessert we all split the Creme Brulee cheesecake- very sweet. Â it was good but I didn't care for the crust.
So some free food- some out of this world and others so so plus some free beer we had a great time. Â They were busy. Â Our reservation was for 9 and we were told to check back in at 9:45. Â Overall, I am looking forward to the Beer release parties and trying out some new menu items. Â Reopening is 9/17
