We've been in a number of times and had decent experiences each time. The food is usually pretty solid for being bar food. We've tried the jerk chicken appetizer (much better than the jerk chicken at Half Pints), the nachos, the wings, seafood quesadilla, and a cheesesteak amongst other things. The bartenders are very friendly and they remember us! which is pretty nice. The restrooms are kinda gross.. but I have seen worse elsewhere.
The place fills up fast though. On a Friday, you have to get here by 3 to get a seat at the bar. They have a lot of live music, which is great if you know and care who the band is. On Saturday nights, unless you know and care about the band, forget it. There are TVs everywhere, which is nice for watching sports. I'm looking forward to trying this place out for college football Saturday (we are huge fanatical college football fans). The bartenders are also really good about making sure your teams are on!
Two strikes on Looney's for two things that annoy me: 1) smokers smoke right outside the door. As you walk up and out of to Looney's, you are greeted with a mouthful of smoke. Not exactly appealing to everyone. Other establishments require smokers to smoke no more than 20 feet in front of the door. 2) It's great that the bar has bands come in and play, but no one wants to pay cover when we dont know who the band is.. and no one wants to pay cover when we arent even sitting on the side of the bar where the band is. Â To illustrate my point, one day I was minding my own business sitting at the bar when some random guy came up to me and demanded I pay a $10 fee to stay where I was. All because a band was coming on. Excuse me??? I was here first, and that was an incredibly, unbelieveably rude way to address patrons and attempt promote the band. Â It really left a bad taste in my mouth about the Looney's experience on days or nights that involve bands.
Looney's is usually hit or miss for me. Â I usually only enjoy going during the week, since their drinks are much cheaper. Â On weekends they are known for charging up to 10 dollars cover, the only bar I've seen in Bel Air to do so and its not worth paying that much, especially with the drink prices on weekends. Â The live music is usually not very good. Â Their food is actually somewhat decent for bar food in Bel Air. Â The amount of TV's they have is great too, since you can usually watch whatever game you want while sitting at the bar or any of the surrounding tables. Â Overall, Looney's is great for me during the week but I refuse to go there on weekends.
Review Source:Looney's serves up typical bar food, but without the typical taste. Their crab dip is excellent; it's creamy and full of flavor. Their burgers are nice and juicy, their wings are perfectly cooked every time. Nice and crunchy on the outside, but still very juicy, and they're large. The Murphy McGee wings are my flavor - it's a sweet and spicy sauce. I also like the jerk chicken strips. And, of course, the drinks are great too. Happy hour all day on Sundays! I love Looney's!
