We've been in a number of times and had decent experiences each time. The food is usually pretty solid for being bar food. We've tried the jerk chicken appetizer (much better than the jerk chicken at Half Pints), the nachos, the wings, seafood quesadilla, and a cheesesteak amongst other things. The bartenders are very friendly and they remember us! which is pretty nice. The restrooms are kinda gross.. but I have seen worse elsewhere.
The place fills up fast though. On a Friday, you have to get here by 3 to get a seat at the bar. They have a lot of live music, which is great if you know and care who the band is. On Saturday nights, unless you know and care about the band, forget it. There are TVs everywhere, which is nice for watching sports. I'm looking forward to trying this place out for college football Saturday (we are huge fanatical college football fans). The bartenders are also really good about making sure your teams are on!
Two strikes on Looney's for two things that annoy me: 1) smokers smoke right outside the door. As you walk up and out of to Looney's, you are greeted with a mouthful of smoke. Not exactly appealing to everyone. Other establishments require smokers to smoke no more than 20 feet in front of the door. 2) It's great that the bar has bands come in and play, but no one wants to pay cover when we dont know who the band is.. and no one wants to pay cover when we arent even sitting on the side of the bar where the band is. Â To illustrate my point, one day I was minding my own business sitting at the bar when some random guy came up to me and demanded I pay a $10 fee to stay where I was. All because a band was coming on. Excuse me??? I was here first, and that was an incredibly, unbelieveably rude way to address patrons and attempt promote the band. Â It really left a bad taste in my mouth about the Looney's experience on days or nights that involve bands.
Looney's is usually hit or miss for me. Â I usually only enjoy going during the week, since their drinks are much cheaper. Â On weekends they are known for charging up to 10 dollars cover, the only bar I've seen in Bel Air to do so and its not worth paying that much, especially with the drink prices on weekends. Â The live music is usually not very good. Â Their food is actually somewhat decent for bar food in Bel Air. Â The amount of TV's they have is great too, since you can usually watch whatever game you want while sitting at the bar or any of the surrounding tables. Â Overall, Looney's is great for me during the week but I refuse to go there on weekends.
Review Source:Looney's serves up typical bar food, but without the typical taste. Their crab dip is excellent; it's creamy and full of flavor. Their burgers are nice and juicy, their wings are perfectly cooked every time. Nice and crunchy on the outside, but still very juicy, and they're large. The Murphy McGee wings are my flavor - it's a sweet and spicy sauce. I also like the jerk chicken strips. And, of course, the drinks are great too. Happy hour all day on Sundays! I love Looney's!
Review Source:My boyfriend wanted to watch the home run derby on ESPN and since I don't get that channel on my TV, we headed to Looney's to watch that and have dinner. Â The bar area was full, so we were seated in the dining room. Â The TV's were very visible from any seat, so he was able to watch the screen easily.
We were greeted by our server, Ashley, who was very nice with high energy. Â We both ordered fish and chips. Â I did not want the fries that come along with the fish, so I asked what could be substituted. Â I chose the baked potato instead of the fries and also ordered a side salad. Â
The salad  ($3.59) was ample, but I did not care for the toppings of green pepper, fresh mushrooms, onions and black olives.  I would have preferred red cabbage & carrots instead.  The potato ($2 sub charge!!) was extremely overcooked to the point of being brown and hard inside, instead of fluffy white.  The fish was overcooked and past crunchy -- kind of hard to eat.  He ordered cocktail sauce instead of the tarter sauce that comes with the meal, and we were charged an addition .50 cents for that!   Our meals came to $37, and we did not order drinks!  We both drank water.  MUCH TO EXPENSIVE FOR BAR FOOD! Â
If we were going to be charged an additional $2 for a baked potato, we should have been told.  That added $4 to our bill for our potatoes.  Fish and chips at $12.99 is an acceptable amount, but the add-on charges were over the top.  The side salad was a little pricey since I was not having it AS a meal, but instead an added side item!  The 50 cents for 'extra dressing' was ridiculous!  Our total bill was $37, and that did not count the $8 tip, for a grand total of $45 (with NO DRINKS).  We could have had a steak dinner  for less!
We did see the show that we wanted to see. Â However, next time we will find another place to watch it. Â The prices were much to high for the quality of the food! Â The sub charges and the extra dressing charges were totally out of line! Â Our server did a nice job and was friendly. Thanks to her, service was a bright spot. Â The tip she earned was well deserved. Â The restaurant charges were out of line! Â We will not be returning!
I think Looneys is not trying to be a restuarant anymore...they seem to have given up trying and instead are letting it go downhill to focus on the bar. Â Most recent visit was last night. Â We were a party of 5 and were told a 25 minute wait. Â Actual wait was over an hour and the table we got was right at the front. We were constantly being jostled by groups coming and going. Â AND, it was so close to the front door were were blown over by cold air gusts Everytime someone entered or left! Â Service was ok. Nothing special and a little slow because it was busy. Â The bar was hopping, and the noise level in the restuarant side so loud you literally had to scream to be heard! Â And I am not exaggerating! Â Food was a mixed bag, but seems to continue to decline. Â The bison burger was delivered medium rare as requested, but so was the cheeseburger ordered medium well. Â The blood soaked roll was especially appetizing. :(. Â The hot turkey sandwich is usually a winner, but they got a new smoker and somebody likes to use it too much! Â The smoked smell hit us even before the tray reached our table! Â It was unedible and the staff acknowledged that this wasn't the first time. Â They offered a burger replacement, and guess what? Â This one was raw inside and roll, again, bloody. Â This was after a 30 minute additional wait. Â They didn't even acknowledge when they brought it out that the table had been cleared for everyone else. Â When I left it untouched, the server didn't even ask if something was wrong...... Â Paid the check reluctantly because I didn't want to deal with it. Â The last two times at this restuarant, I've had similar problems, though not as bad.
Trying to find a good point..... Their French fries are great! Â Always hot and tasty!
I think I'm taking Looneys off my list of places to go eat.
Great food for a sports bar (try the Reuben wrap). There are TV's all over the place, so if you are here to watch the big game, you won't be disappointed. They get some of the best regional bands on Friday and Saturday nights. Â Be warned, this place gets VERY crowded at times. Â Get there early if you want a seat at the bar. Make sure you stop by on St Patricks Day.
Review Source:My wife and I set on the bar side so we could see the TVs. The first thing I noticed was the tables looked clean but they are so sticky you can't put your arms down or they stick to the table......I Â had the french onion soup which was good. For lunch my wife had the crab melt she really liked.....I got the hot turkey sandwich which was not hot the gravy had to have been cold when it was put on....it was suppose to be on toast but it was just soggy bread.....used my fork to cut it because the knife was dirty......the server was okay just not much personality never even shared a smile......if they just did the little things better they could be so much more.
Review Source:I have been here several occasions for both lunch and saturday night bar crawls. Â The lunch was good, irish pub type food. Â I am torn over what I feel about the bar experience. Â The crowd here tends to be a bit older I feel. Â It's very chill. Â Don't go here on a Saturday night if you don't care about the band because they charge a cover of $5-10/person. Â And its such a waste if you decide to leave after 30 minutes to waste money on a cover. Â We recently saw Amish Outlaws here and they were great, so we were willing to pay the cover. Â The drinks are similarly priced to all the other bars in downtown.
Review Source:I love this place. My wife hates it. If you want to sit down and enjoy the food, choose the restaurant area. If you want to see sports and focus more on the beverages, choose the bar area (which is huge). Overall, the food is really great bar food, the menu has a rather large selection and it is always filled with pretty girls. What more could you ask for? :-)
Review Source:I really liked this place both times I've gone. If you're looking for a great place to go for lunch and get a couple beers, or go out after work for dinner, it is the perfect spot. The bar is usually packed, especially during football season, but there's a larger sit down area that makes it easier to talk, etc. The sweet potato fries are amazing and the portions are pretty big. The beer selection is pretty impressive, and has a lot more to offer than the usual Miller or Coors.
Review Source:Pretty good. This place has alot to offer, just about every night of the week. Even during the slow days (sun-Wed), there's people here when the other places are empty or closed. Weekend/holiday nights the place is packed! Lots of screens so you can catch just about any sporting event. Food is decent, usually very large servings. Drinks are reasonably priced, depending on the night. Usually has a pretty diverse crowd, from those in their 20's to older.
Review Source:I came here with some friends for dinner. We were seated and attended to quickly. The menu is huge! I ended up getting the burger which was so so. The sweet potato fries are very sweet and soggy... The venue gets very noisy after a certain hour making it difficult to talk. Overall, nothing special.
Review Source:If you're going to Looney's to eat, go early! Once the bar crowd starts arriving, it fills up fast! The food is definitely worth any wait! My husband's favorite and "go-to" meal is the reuben. Thin sliced, lean corned beef piled (too) high! Served with fries, he has a hard time finishing his meal, which says a lot! On a recent visit, I was in the mood for mussels. I thought for 8.99 I'd get a decent size plate of mussels... but certainly wasn't expecting an overflowing bowl of over 60 mussels! The best deal in town! They were fresh and steamed perfectly, served with melted butter. The steamed shrimp has been perfect every time... even 1/2 pound is enough to satisfy one's appetite. Served large with sliced potato, onions, corn on the cob and fresh bread, a real deal at 10.99. They also have great cheese steaks. The only menu item I wouldn't order again (we've tried it three times and it's always come out the same) is the cream of crab soup. VERY thick and mucky, almost like the consistency of Elmer's glue. If only they would thin it up a bit, it would be easier to digest. Great place to watch a sporting event or get together with friends to hear live music. Be warned... it gets crazy busy and loud! But a good time and great food!
Review Source:Well what can you expect for town with not much variety and options to do in Bel Air/Aberdeen without driving to 30 minutes to Baltimore or 1 hour to Philly. Â I'll admit, i felt like a minority here, but I still managed to have a decent time with some of the people I met at APG. Â A bar very much for locals, but if you are from out of town, this would probably be your best bet if you wanted to see the nightlfe of Bel-Air/Aberdeen. Â Looney's is your typical sportsbar with TVs everywhere literally. Â I can just imagine their monthly electric bill. Â One suggestion, have a DD, I've heard some locals mention that the 5-0 will actually sit outside on the side streets and will watch and follow patrons leave the parking lot.....
Review Source:Two trips to Looney's while visiting a buddy, and two great pub meals. Â First time, I had the soft shell crab sandwich. Â Just perfect. Â Don't really get these things properly North of the Mason Dixon line.
On the second trip, we started with some wings with classic hot. Â Now, the classic hot, was obviously homemade, with a little touch of their own flavors, and quite a nice change. Â Wings were cooked up perfect. Â Then, onto a blue cheeseburger with onions. Â Perfectly medium rare, and outta site. Â A homemade bun completed an A1 burger.
The crowd is definitely a mixed bag of business folk, locals, bar rats,...great people watching. Â Not sure what the late night scene is.
This place has a huge menu with lots to pick from and there is definitely something on the menu that everyone would like. I've only been in twice, once at the booths in the bar area and today in the dining area. The place is huge inside. My friends got the Crab Dip that I had to abstain from (ugh, darn diet...) ...but I got the Shrimp Salad on a wrap. Both of my friends enjoyed the Crab Dip which came with big hunks of bread and carrots and celery. They said it was kind of spicy, but delicious. My shrimp salad was great, not too spicy like some can be...and they packed my wrap full of it, it was huge and a lot to eat. I definitely came out full. I ended up trying some of my friend's Chicken Cheesesteak which was delicious as well. I wish there was one closer to where I live, but I definitely like Looney's a lot.
Review Source:Minus one star only because there are very few things on the menu that appeal to me. Â Some of the things I've had there I really did not like - for example, the taco salad. Â
Their steamed mussels are awesome. Â A few family members claim they are better than Bertha's, except they really need to jazz up their melted butter. Throw in a little tarragon or something? Â
I like the crab pretzel, although I can only eat about half of it because it's so doughy and carb heavy. Â They have TVs everywhere in the dining room, so you won't miss the game while you're eating.
I met my Hubby there and his friends after they played Disc Golf. The boys
wanted to
watch the PSU game- they have TVs everywhere at this place. There wings looked
good
but we didn't try them (some one else in our party did however- The hubby and I
want to
go back for the wings). We also know 98 Rock is there a lot!
I had Looney's Chicken Cheese Steak - "Canton Style." Fresh mozzarella, green
peppers,
fried onions and mushrooms$8.25- I felt it was a bit dry even after I put mayo
on it. I
know chicken steaks are dryer than regular steak but this was really dry. Bun
was fresh- it
was just everything else.
My Hubby had one of the specials and it was some sort of Jerk Chicken Cheese
Steak- He
made the same comment about it being dry also.
Even though the sandwiches were a let down we both agree we want to go back and
get
wings because they looked like good ones. Plus I was reading online they have
some good
daily specials!
