I would totally drink here late at night, but wouldn't eat here again.
Yes, it's a dive bar. Cool, bro. I get it. We went for lunch because my husband likes the fish and chips. It was so dark inside, we had to sit by the window so we could see the menu. I really wish we would have stayed in the dark.
The window ledge, like every square inch of this bar, is crammed with Irish knickknacks. In between the decorations on the window ledge was filthy. I mean sick, too-dirty-for-even-a-dive-bar sick. When I saw that, I got kind of afraid to order any meat or salads, so I stuck with plain old grilled cheese and fries.
When our meals came, my husband's fish seemed ok, but my simple sandwich was puny and cold and the fries were flavorless and cold as well.
Service was outstanding, which is why is said I wouldn't mind drinking here. Besides, the alcohol would kill the "yuck", right?
The prices for lunch seemed high. I didn't see a menu for dinner to compare it to.

Definite dive bar. The place is adorned in Irish decor, not a lot of beer is my only complaint. The waitress was very kind. Best part was the only light at the bar was a neon cocktail light, awesome.

Maybe I'm biased because I love dive-bars with good food, but Dunleavy's is great! The decor completely adds to its charm. They decorate like crazy for the holidays as well - really enjoy the place during the month of December.

Their hamburgers are delicious and the onion rings are SO good. So are the french fries. They've also got a sandwich called the Pubwich that is quite tasty. The menu is small and has your typical bar-type food but it is better than typical-bar type food.

Great atmosphere. Good prices. Friendly waitstaff.

How is this place staying in business?  It has to be the locals that are loyal to their safety zone.

We went here on St Pattys Day (I know...I KNOW) as part of a stint around town to different local places.  Having some history, we thought this would be a good place to try.

I will give them credit that they certainly brought their A-game with the entertainment.  We arrived around noon-ish and they had bagpipes blowing everyone's face off.  Thing is, the place is too small for that sort of noise (literally), maybe it was one of the staff's friends or kids that got the gig - who knows. The waitress was nice and tried her best, so I cant give them 1 star because the service was solid and the drinks were well poured.

The restaurant itself is where it gets shotty (no pun intended).  The carpet is the first blast of bad-stench you'll get upon entering...I would venture a bet that it hasnt been properly cleaned in the past decade.  Why even have carpet anymore?  Especially in that sort of venue, it smells like one-too-many customers lost their cookies trying to make it to the bathroom.

Ah...and then there's the bathrooms.  I get it.  Bar bathrooms are not going to be heavenly and I dont have high expectations either.  The decor could use an update for sure, but is excusable IF the facility is clean...which it definitely isn't.  Also, the over-abundance of cheap air freshener is an immediate red flag of intent to hide something.  Sure enough, there's some kind of leakage thing going on behind the toilets which they're certainly aware of judging by the stick-on fresheners surrounding the area in question.  Sadly (?) you could smell right through them.  Yeesh.

Sorry Dunleavys but you reminded me too much of a desperate establishment you might see on "Bar Rescue" or "Restaurant Impossible" - maybe someone will nominate you?

10 at night EVERY table was dirty.  Waitress told us "pick one and she would clean it for us".  Food was okay but hard to enjoy in the filthy atmosphere.  Our waitress sat at a table by the bar while we ate.  My thought was "if the restaurant is this dirty, how dirty is the kitchen?".

Very dingy hole in the wall bar.  Food is  marginal at best. Our waitress took a "nap" and put her head down on the table during our service. Don't waste your time on this one!

Good food, good value. Its also an intimate and cozy venue so you can take your sweetie for a quiet dinner, or a group of friends who want to be able to talk in private. The bartenders are always friendly, and I've yet to eat anything that wasn't yummy.

Dunlaevy's is a neighborhood joint that consistently delivers good pub food with a good value.  Their standouts are the onion rings, the Friday fish special and the pub burger.  The drinks are strong and there's complimentary popcorn.  The waitresses are the type to call you "dear" no matter your age.

I really can't stress how good their pub burger is.  It's a 1/3-pound burger that comes with swiss and bacon, and a lot of it.  It's juicy and well-cooked with a toasted bun, and just a super value at $6.50.  Shoestring fries are extra.

The ambiance is typical Irish bar kitsch and the big screen tvs are always tuned to sports, but sometimes that's exactly what you need in a neighborhood bar that treats everyone like a regular.

Went for the burger.  Got the fish...GLAD I did!  This is some of the best fried fish I've ever had; the batter was light and crispy and the fish was very fresh.

The burger was def. good as well and recommended.
