The only thing I liked about our party of 7's visit was that we were seated quickly. ( This was because the place was nearly empty on a Sunday evening.

The service was fair. We received our food, but had to request utensils. Drink refills were non-existant.

The food was fair. No one in the party was enthused about their order. Rather bland tasting all the way around.

WAY OVER-PRICED!! Three of our 7 combos were $12.00 or more. These same dishes can be had in 10 other Visalia Mexican restaurants for $7. - $9.

Two or three years ago I would have rated this place 3-4 stars, but the slide continues and is picking up speed. I won't be back to see the splash down!

I absolutely love El Rosal.  My family has been coming here for over 20 years and it always delivers.  The staff provides excellent customer service and always delivers delicious food.

The owner Pablo has successfully transcended the restaurant atmosphere to a family first environment that makes you feel right at home.  He created this business with his family and continues to run it as a family establishment.  I love El Rosal and I will be a customer for life.

Used to love this place many years ago.. Last few times we have been there food was not great and the waitresses ignored us most of the time and the cockroaches crawling around on the back of the booth was not taken seriously by them either..   My husband and I drove from Hanford to Visalia to give them one more chance as they have always had good chicken fajitas.. This  trip was the same as far as the waitresses go..   But the cockroach that crawled across our table and on to my plate was the last straw!!!!!!!!   I squished the roach and handed it to the waitress as I asked for my ticket..  She did not seem shocked at all.. On the upside she didn't charge us for the meal we didn't eat!!!

So we stroll into El Rosal because my wife loves the tacos there. And Lord knows you can't get decent tacos anywhere else in Visalia, so I oblige.

The first thing I see is a clipboard slapped up on the wall in the entryway that instructs you to "write your name down if it is busy". That's cool. We don't need no stinkin hostess 'round here. Some people were writing their name down because it looked busy to them, some were not. That made it nice and confusing to all of us waiting for our tables, including the post-church Sunday crowd who were beginning to forget about the sermon's message as their earthly desires for frijoles and arroz was being thwarted by the clipboard confusion.

The place wasn't crowded, mind you. But you'd think it was. We had five people in our party. Just five. But it was a logistical feat of strength to get our table. Two smaller tables got pushed together. Then broken down. Then pushed together again. Then another table was assembled. But for about five minutes, it was missing two chairs. Aye Carumba! Then folding chairs arrived. Bueno! But no silverware. I began to start thinking about the two tried and true Mexican places we passed on the way to El Rosal. Elderly churchies sitting by us were getting ancy and society was breaking down in that burrito waiting room. The clipboard controversy was growing. Are you pro clipboard, or anti clipboard? The factions were clearly split. This isnt a leisurely sunday lunch experience. I need a siesta.

Finally...we got our table. I personally was already exhausted and the adrenaline from the clipboard panic had dulled my appetite. There's still hope to salvage this meal.

We ordered a bowl of beans to go with the chips. Good beans. Not $6 spectacular, but decent. Then the food came. They got my order wrong. No big deal. I'll eat it anyway. Well, i thought i would. The fine folks at El Rosal decided that I didn't need my burrito, I needed flautas...but what I got was overfried tubes of heinousness slathered in a pile of warm lettuce. At least the refills on my extremely diluted iced tea were coming.

Watching an elderly woman scrape refried beans out of her cleavage with a butterknife and daintily eat them without batting an eye was the final straw.  I declined to finish my Mexican beef jerky logs and head for the exit.

The price for this lunchtime trainwreck? $56 plus tip. yep. For two kid sized meals, two adult meals, sodas, and a bowl of beans.Yea, our kids split one entree and hit still cost us a tank of gas' worth of shekels. Insult to injury.

If I was in Canada and had no other Mexican food choices for hundreds of miles, maybe I'd be back. But there are too many great Mexican food places in town there they can seat you, get your order right, and not gouge you for pretty average run of the mill Mexican food. Adios El Rosal.

I like El Rosal. The food to me seems similar to any other Mexican restaurant, not sure what others are expecting, TexMex maybe, which is not the same as Mexican food.
As far as lighting as one reviewer pointed out, they have a brighter more modern lighting scheme and yes, there are flat screen televisions in the bar.

I love their Carnitas and I like their chips and salsa.

Pros: yummy salsa and cheese enchiladas

Cons: not 'real' Mexican food but I still love it:) the service isn't always the best

The place has gone down hill. Enchiladas were horrible, rice & beans not worth writing home about. Now I know why they wern't  busy on a Saturday night.

The best Mexican food in town. Fairly inexpensive, great service, and a bar. Not much more I ask for from a restaurant. This location is a little newer than the Mooney Blvd. location, so I favor it over the other one.
