I've always had great service at El Salto, and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. The staff is extremely attentive and constantly checking on if refills of chips and salsa and drinks are needed. It can get loud due to the bar in the same room, but it's still easy to carry on a conversation. The spices don't require much of a commitment from the diner, but if one wants things spicier or hotter, such requests are easily accommodated.

Really authentic Mexican food, which is hard to find these days. They have great customer service and the drinks are always great. I go there often and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Delicious margaritas! I also love their veggie fajitas

Fairly run-of-the-mill Mexican spot.  I found the salsa and queso dip fairly bland.  The food was ok, but nothing spectacular.  Didn't seem to be a lot of other options in Chesterton though as far as Mexican.

The service was TERRIBLE.  Had to wait well over an hour for food and the restaurant was not even that busy.  The good is not that good and I agree with comments made by DJ S.

I have eaten at the one in Valpo and it is terrible as well.  Was hoping to see a change....but that was not the case and I am DONE with this restaurant.

    Do not recommend at all.

Are these people serious? I guess living in Chesterton or Valpo people really don't know terrible Mexican food from authentic. It's really sad to see this place get high reviews when the food is god awful. I mean, the food here is horrendous. That's right. Horrendous. TWELVE DOLLARS for an entree that consists of chicken, beans, rice, and a tortilla. More bland than Poi.

This stuff had to come out of a can or something. Cheap un-authentic Mexican food. The new bartender (the skinny white guy), could have a room temperature I.Q. as well. I heard this place was under new management. Must be why it went downhill so fast.

Save yourself the money and the bland taste in your mouth and go to El Amigo in Valpo. It's the most legitimate authentic mexican food in either town.

    Will never eat here again.

Great place for a spur-of-the moment dinner after a day at the beach. Service was great, food tasty. Ate outside on the patio, which was nice except that it was a smoking area.

Another stop on my boyfriend's and my midwest Mexican tour.  This place was pretty good.  I got the chili colorado and Dave got the enchiladas yolanda.  Mine was pretty good. I thought the beef tasted a little cheap, but their guac was amazing.  There was a bit of a language barrier with our waiter, but you'll have that.  What was really good, though, was the fried cheesecake we got for dessert.  I was so uncomfortably full for the rest of the night.  I really liked the atmosphere and would come here again, but it might not be my first choice.

I was a little unsure about what to expect for El Salto, but to my surprise it was rather delicious! The chips seem to be of the homemade variety and the salsa was full of flavor and the guacamole met my expectations. I ordered the chicken enchiladas dinner and had enough for the next day! The food was very fresh and the environment was nice. It's in a strip mall, so it wasn't the most authentic of the local Mexican restaurants. We had the fried ice cream for desert. It was good, but they really loaded it with whipped cream where I would have preferred more ice cream!

I've been to this restaurant on multiple occasions and I have always enjoyed the food. The prices are extremely reasonable and the wait staff is consistently friendly.

Great food and decent prices!  Made me wish I lived in the area. The margarita I had was amazing, but if having it with a meal you might want to get the smaller size, the bigger one is huge!  I couldn't finish it and that's saying something.

Part of the local chain.   Good Mexican food though.   We had fajitas, carne asada tacos, guacamole and quesadilla.   Everything was fresh and the 1/2 price Wednesday margaritas tasted sooo good.   Although I think they cut the tequila out.   The guacamole and quesadilla were pretty standard but the fajitas for 2 comes with everything you could ever want on a tortilla for $20.00.
