Looks dumpy on the outside but inside has a nice vibe to it. Had the chicken enchiladas, wife had the veggie burrito. We weren't impressed at all with the food. The portions were big and the prices were good, but the food quality was a little below average. Also, they don't seem to serve alcohol but have a BYOB thing going on, so if you're thinking of having a margarita with your Mexican meal, well....

Also, it's one of those places where you pay for your meal when you order it, but you still have waitress/table service. So that makes it awkward if you want to leave a tip before you leave, yet you already paid for your meal with a credit card. Not the end of the world, just kinda awkward.

I like the vibe on the inside and they have a good, central location, just wasn't a fan of the food. I'm willing to give some other menu options a chance there, but it won't be a the top of my list. But you should try it, maybe you will have a different experience.

I must have hit this place on a bad day considering some of the other reviews.  My food was just average.  I was really hoping for better. I will give it another chance since I found the staff friendly and my friend's choice of meat was a better option. I choose the Tinga Poblana as others recommended that here.  I actually enjoyed the pork ones my friend had much more.

I may update or add another review once I try it again.  But it wasn't as good as I had hoped.

We've been wondering about this place for a while and we're glad we checked it out, but we were pretty disappointed. There is nothing wrong with a "hole in the wall" kind of place, but the best ones are where the food takes you by surprise in a good way. This was not that place.

I'm not that great of a cook, but I liked my homemade enchiladas much better...so that says something. A can of soda is $1.50 but you can BYOB - I would definitely do that to save money if we ever go back. The enchiladas were ok. The rice was just plain white rice. The beans were not refried but instead, swimming in water at room temperature.  Chips and queso were decent.  Random suggestion - get rid of the stained placemats. They hurt more than they help!

    Pros: N/A

Cons: Worse, most over-priced, taco salad I've ever had. Cashier was horribly rude. Expect an extremely long wait for food to be prepared.

Good Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex - read that as no heavy chili sauce or grease. This is crisp, clean, fresh food. The pork tacos are fantastic. The beans are authentic ranch style beans - not mushy refried. The quesadillas are a bit heavy, but still quite tasty.  Most Mexican food is not as spicy as the Americanized version and that holds true here. Don't expect Texas taste bud burning spicy. Again, clean and fresh.
They also do barbecue ribs which are surprising good. Still, I'd stick with the tacos.
The atmosphere is true Mexican hole-in-the-wall dive. I recommend take away if you live nearby.
Still if you're in the mood for some real Mexican tacos, stop in here.  This from a Texan!!

Really enjoyed our meals here but the service could be better.

Decent Mexican and BBQ for a reasonable price.  Ambiance is nothing special, but the staff is always friendly.  Closest food to the C & O trail. BYOB.

I had lunch at El Sloppy Tacos while on my (pedal) bike journey from DC to Harpers Ferry, WV. Perhaps I was partially influenced by the 55 miles I had already ridden, but the quesadilla I had was fantastic. I chose the Tinga Poblana and cheese for the filling. It's normally served with white rice and retried beans on the side, but I'm not a fan of refried beans, so I had only rice. It also came with a small side of "topping" -- consisting of lettuce, sour cream, and pico de gallo.  Everything was very fresh and had that "authentic" taste.  I believe the Tinga Poblano is a mixture of spiced beef and pork -- whatever it was, it was big on flavor!

The person who waited on me was very friendly and helpful. "Helpful" was appreciated because their menu is a little confusing.

The only negative I have is the price.  The quesadilla with a 20oz bottle of soda was over $11.00. Not outrageous, but it seems a bit steep, especially considering Brunswick is a small rural town.

I drove 45 miles to go here.  Why?  Because the menu intrigued me. I grew up in So Cal and understand the rewards of good Mex food on the East Coast.

This was an above average place. The food was simple and that's a good thing. Bean and cheese burrito was excellent. The meat on my tacos were excellent. BUT.....there was a lack of kick to everything. Salsa, although good was not spicy. The meat was not very seasoned. The place was very clean and pleasant. price was great

If I lived closer I would go again. And I still might but would have to plan this out again. Oh and the did not have the tinga meat which was what I was really looking forward to

Brunswick is not a place that has many restaurant options, so when my husband and I noticed this place a few months ago we had to check it out.  We both love mexican and BBQ so it was a no brainer.  Let me tell you, the food is delicious and they never let us down!  We love the burritos, nachos and the quesadillas. they offer different meat options but the barbacoa and tinga poblana is the way to go.   The staff is always pleasant and the food comes out quick, you can't ask for more than that.  I definitely recommend this place if you find yourself in Brunswick!

This place used to be pretty good. Went here on january 19 2011, and it was dissappointing. The rice was plain white rice and most of it was uncooked. The beans were not even close to being good. They weren't even black or refried beans. I had a chicken quesadilla and it was ok at best. Also the place is over priced for what you get. There aren't many choices in this little town, but I would suggest picking somewhere else.

A friend of mine told me he saw a hole in the wall little Mexican place in Brunswick and thought of me.  (I grew up in San Diego, and Mexican food is a staple in my diet).  So today my friend and I went for a bike ride on the C&O Canal Tow Path with the specific intent of ending up at El Sloppy Tacos for lunch.

    I'm glad we did.

Atmosphere was nice.  From the outside appearance, this looked like a typical hole-in-the-wall, greasy, run-down taco joint like you would find on any street corner in San Diego.  However, I was very pleasantly surprised with the interior.  It was very clean and in good repair.  Nice new tables and chairs.  There were about ten 4-top tables inside.

This is the type of place where you place your order and pay at the counter then have a seat.  Thumbs down for no fountain sodas.  The drink options were limited to a refrigerated case of plastic 20 oz bottles of soda.  Thumbs up that they were Coke products.  Also thumbs up that there is a prominent BYOB sign posted - you're welcome to bring your own beverages.  Their raison d'etre is the FOOD (and justifiably so).

There was only one guy working when we were there for lunch on a Thursday.  He was the cashier, cook, and waiter all-in-one.  Besides us, there were only two other tables occupied, so he was able to handle it.  I hope they have additional employees there during busier times of day.

The food was FANTASTIC.  Everything made fresh and in-house.  Everything on the menu sounded good to me, so I asked the owner what he recommended.  He recommended the tinga poblana burrito and it was EXCELLENT.  We also had a starter of chips and salsa.  The salsa was very fresh, chunky, and delicious, although it lacked kick.

One word of caution - this is one of those places that puts rice and beans INSIDE the burrito.  I'm not a big fan of that.  I should have asked.  I recommend holding the rice and beans.  My wife is complaining about the after effects of the beans tonight.  :-P

They have a decent looking kids menu, too.

The prices were very reasonable for both the quality, freshness, and quantity of the food we got.  For two ginormous burritos, two 20oz bottles of coke, chips and salsa, we paid somewhere in the ballpark of $22.

I would totally go here again.  In fact, my friend and I talked about planning another bike ride, this time out to Harpers Ferry with an intentional stop at El Sloppy Tacos for another awesome lunch.

Excellent food and friendly service. I especially like the tinga poblano burritos and the hush puppies. Although we've never eaten in the restaurant (don't expect anything fancy inside), we go for carryout frequently. Haven't tried the ribs yet but others have said they are excellent.

Not bad, wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but a definite must if you find yourself in Brunswick, MD.

El Sloppy Tacos has a great name going for it, friendly staff, and a mouthwateringly descriptive menu.  Unfortunately, that's where my positive experience ended.

As another reviewer commented, the atmosphere could use a boost.  The front part of the interior looks like a restaurant but there is an unsettling soft spot in the flooring just inside front door and the back half has a haphazard arrangement of furniture- perhaps the remains of a previous establishment.  The place could use a few plants or some music to liven it up.

When push comes to shove, it comes down to the food and in this case, the food was not to my liking.  The "homemade" salsa and chips were pricey considering the salsa used canned tomatoes (spiced with cumin).  The slightly toasted tortilla was a plus but the burrito (Tinga Poblana) fell flat.  The flavor was the same blandness from the first bite to the last.  Great burritos have tantalizing fresh flavors and aromas steaming out after the first bite.  This one could have used any number of improvements such as a spicy interior, a hidden pocket of crema, or the sharp bite of cilantro and onion.  My overall impression is that this restaurant avoids fresh ingredients (holy moly, no guacamole!) to save on costs.  It is not to their benefit.

All I can say is, YUMMY! If you haven't had owner, Tony Amos', Hogzilla ribs, then you haven't lived! The food is amazing and really affordable. The owner goes out of his way to make sure you are happy and satisfied with everything every time.

I found myself in Brunswick (of all places) and needed a quick bite. So I checked out this taco place and I so surprised. Not a Mexican joint like I expected, and not an American-ized tex mex either. This was a fusion of BBQ, South American, and all kinds of unique flavors. The meats have obviously been seasoned and cooked with Love, and the toppings and sauces were really fresh.

The atmosphere is nothing exciting, but the food more than made up for it. Tacos were only $2. My combo of a Carnitas Taco a Sloppy Taco with rice and beans was $5.75.

I will hit this place again even if it means going out of my way.
