This place had the feel of a "dive bar" from the moment we walked in to continue our meeting and do damage to our livers. Reasonable selection of beers on tap and the waitress was properly puzzled when someone ordered a glass of wine. We took one of the high top tables in the center of the room and stayed there though a couple of rounds before some opted to head home and others went for a walk to get sober enough to drive. Prices were pretty decent.
Review Source:I'm typically not a huge fan of chains, but this one is relatively local so I'm in! Fat Belly's is a great Irish pub with frequent live music, a good selection of beer on tap and a fully stocked bar. Their food is also decent. What made me want to review Fat Belly's though is that the East Greenwich location stayed open during Hurricane Sandy even without power. Their commitment to hurricane brews is something to be touted!
Review Source:I've realized as I've gotten older that certain things appeal to me more than before when deciding whether or not I like a restaurant/bar/etc. One of those things is how they handle a busy night - with this I realize that Fat Belly's EG is just not equipped for a lot of people, which is unfortunate, because I don't forsee myself going there ever again on a Saturday night.
I appreciate the attempts the place made for my party of 6 to be sat at a table, but the place has about 10 total, plus a bar area, all of which were taken. We stood awkwardly at the end of the bar, hoping for the promise of seats only to stand there the entire time we stayed at FB. We left after 1 drink because they simply couldn't accommodate us (or anyone else for that matter).
I have nothing against Fat Belly's as an establishment, as I rather like the chain. That said, if it's a peak night go to one of the larger locations (Coventry, Providence, Warren) and you'll have a much better time.
A lively, classic Irish pub. Â Close quarters, music/TV and conversation fill the air. Â Combine that with a properly poured Guinness and very good pub food and you have the perfect place to hang out and watch the game or spend time with your rowdier friends. Â The burgers and wings are exceptional, and I like the BBQ chicken quesadilla as well...it's not dirt cheap but prices are hardly anything to complain about. Â If you want a quiet romantic night or a kid-friendly eatery this may not be your place, but for what it is, it can't be beat...
Review Source:Have been going to Fat Bellies for a few years now. Never been disappointed, until today. They changed the menu. Took off some of our favorite dishes. No more Pesto Pizza or Twice Baked Potato Pizza, no Belly Panini, no Dutch Belly, no Rib Eye, no Cobb Salad....to name a few. Raised some prices and now you will have to pay $1.00 extra to add Bacon Cheese Fries, Sweet Potato Fries and Truffle Fries to your order:( Not cool. Won't be going to Fat Bellies much anymore:(
Review Source:Wife and I went to Fat-Belly's Pub today and it was not the best experience. Â I ordered the Blackened Chicken Sandwich and it was just ok, could have been better. Â My Wife's burger on the other hand tasted really weird, it wasn't horrific but my wife couldn't eat it, the meat just tasted funny. Â The Clam Chowder was very good but it couldn't make up for the burger. Â The waitress was very nice and everyone there was great - so it was a fun place but I was expecting more. Â The food in the Wakefield location is highly recommended and the burgers are so much better.
Review Source:This former coffee house turned Irish pub was a pleasant surprise. Small but familiar feeling atmosphere, friendly people and decent service. What's not to like for a get together and quick bite.
The fare is standard pub food, but done in a nicer way. The basket of truffle oil fries was a knock out, and the grilled barbeque chicken pizza was awesome. It's the type of place where you run into friends and people are ok jamming together in a friendly atmosphere.
I wouldn't go here on a first date, but for a few laughs with a bunch of friends - a great choice.
So there I was in East Greenwich on a cold, windy and raining winter Saturday for a business meeting. Â I called ahead and the guy assured me he was open Saturdays. Â I arrive at 12.30 and no one was there. Â The guy next door says "Oh, he always closes at 12 on a Saturday". Grrrrr ! Strike one.
I decide to buy a newspaper and grab a sandwich for lunch. Â There is lots of parking beside a liquor store in the main street so i pull in. Â Those guys always sell newspapers from a stand by the checkout, right ? Â Wrong ! Â he tells me I can get one from a place half a mile away. Strike two. Â I decided it would be easier to walk a few doors up to the local Starbucks and grab one there.
While driving along the main street I had spotted an Irish bar and decided that'll do for lunch rather than keep walking and getting sodden.
The service was snappy and they had my favorite draft beer Sam Winter, so there's a star for each. There were several well placed TV's showing some college football game. I spotted a reuben on the menu and thought - Irish bar - corned beef - cabbage - not too busy.- what's not to like ? Â As it turned out, plenty. Â The reuben was awful. Â The corned beef was not the proper cooked in the pot material, it was that hard, tasteless, machine cut stuff like they sell vacuum packed in cheap supermarkets. Â It wasn't fresh cooked but had been pulled from the cooler and nuked. Â YUK ! The edges of the meat were scaldingly hot and the center was still cold. Strike three.
Lift your game guys. Â If an Irish bar can't get corned beef right then who can ? This place would be fine for a beer and watching a game but nothing more.
I wandered back out into the cold and rain after one of those days. Â Sigh !
Nice selection of beer on tap. Decent menu with standard pub food on it. The food itself was tasty!
The place is definitely a pub inside. Dark, wooden, cozy. The staff is friendly and service is quick.
The parking can be tough. It is all street parking in East Greenwich which is not the easiest thing to come by.
Not a place for a romantic date, but a nice spot for dinner and a beer.
I have to say I have become quite a fan of this rapidly spreading RI chain. It seems like everywhere I turn, one is popping up, which is a good thing.
Beer selection is good at both locations I've been to (Main St- East Greenwich & Warwick - near the Warwick Mall). Bar service is always on-point.
The food is mostly American Pub Fare, but for what it's worth, it stands apart from other pubs. I have vegetarianized (2) of their offerings now and been more then happy with both. First, at the Warwick location, I ordered BBQ Chicken Nachos with no Chicken (but I still had them put the bbq sauce on them). It was a welcome twist on classic bar food. For my second vegetarianization, I ordered the twice-baked potato pizza (sans bacon) at the EG location. This pizza was outstanding- and original: Mashed potatoes, scallions, blue cheese, and garlic oil. What a combo! I can only imagine how great it taste with crumbled bacon pieces!
Having visited these two locations with both friends and family members, the diverse crowd has made it a comfortable go-to drink/grub spot. I cannot really speak on any of the other locations, but I highly recommend the (2) I've discussed!
Considering I live so close to Fat Bellys I am so glad it is a good place to go. Whether it is for drinks or food, I am never unhappy leaving this place.
Went in there the other night to grab my take out and when I threw a few bucks on the bar for the tip, both the bartender and waitress thanked me and were really gracious for a tip left on a take-out order (especially by another female I am sure). The service is always good here, there are no I'm-better-than-you attitudes here, which instantly makes it a place to go. Wait for drinks? Not here. Everything is really speedy, clean and awesome.
Cool place to meet with old friends or make some new ones. Very relaxed place.
Fat Belly's is a great place to go hang out with friends and just have a casual time. Â The food is pretty good and prices can run from 'reasonable' to 'for that, you have to be joking.' Â You can't go wrong with their burgers and their wings. Â I have had both on multiple occasions and they are always worth it.
By the way, did I mention the beer is wet? Â That is always a plus. Â They do have some drink specials on occasion, so if you see them, take advantage. Â
They will probably never know your name, but for a chain, they have done a great job of becoming a local neighborhood watering hole.
Fat Belly's is a small Irish Pub. Â I chose to go to Fat Belly's because it was close to where I was staying and they have the NFL Sunday Ticket.
I was lucky in that the games I wanted to watch were not at the same time as the Patriots or I probably would not have been able to watch my games. Â However, since my game was after the Patriots game, they changed two tvs to the games I requested (going in, I was only expecting to be able to see one game). Â There aren't a ton of tvs, so if it gets crowded, I can imagine it being difficult to get the game you want.
The chicken wings were really good and they had a bunch of beers on tap. Â Prices were reasonable and service was good.
Really like Fat Belly's, it's a great casual spot to grab a bite, or a drink if that's your thing. The restaurant serves above average pub fare and grilled pizza's (note only the Forge Rd. location serves NY style pizza, and it's pretty good). The only downside is the "Hootetesque" outfits they have the servers wearing. Owner might want to rethink that idea, this isn't South Beach, much less Panama City. Overall though this is a great place to go.
Review Source:Went here looking for a place with NFL Sunday ticket to watch the Bills game and boy was I satisfied. They had TVs everywhere. I was disappointed that you could not here the audio from the TV (I'm sure you will if you go there while the Patriots are playing). I was extremely happy to find out that they had every sports song from ACDC to Guns and Roses to Van Halen while you were watching the game. The food was really good.
Review Source:Funny I just "liked" Fat Belly's the other day after going there. Now I have to write a review. We went in tonight (Sunday) for a burger and a drink. There were a few tables occupied, so I wouldn't say it was "busy" by any stretch of the imagination. We walked in, turned the corner to check the table situation and the waiter told us to sit anywhere. Good. The window is the best spot and the table provides ample room. Immediately after we sat, another couple came in and sat next to us. For some reason the waiter approached them first with menus. Ok. Maybe he couldn't tell us apart.
Attn waiters: you should have the ability to tell people apart. Anyway, after he took their order, he came to us and asked ups for ours. We ordered drinks and both wanted The Big Papi Burger. We got our drinks quickly and our burge...rs came out in good time, and they were fantastic! Amazing flavor, and crunch from the fried onions on top. At this point our waiter went AWOL. The burger was amazing, but the grease was hard to keep up with and my hands were dripping. The waiter passed us full speed waiting on other customers at tables and to the bar, without eye contact.See More
Attn waiters: You ALWAYS need to ask how the food is and ask if there is anything you can get your table. This waiter totally neglected this part of his job. After about 10 minutes of grease dripping down my fingers, I looked over ...at the bar, and there was the waiter, taking a drink and WATCHING THE CELTICS!!! Meanwhile, the table that sat AFTER us LEFT.
At this point my head was ready to pop off and I grabbed another and asked if he wanted to wait on our table . I told him all I wanted was some napkins. The other waiter said that our was busy. I said" Watching the basketball game???"See More
Should I have to get napkins myself? Do I get a discount if I get my own napkins? How about food and drinks? Anyway, Two minutes later our waiter came over and nonchalantly asked us if we needed anything. I said the check. He neve...r even addressed the issue with his table. Attn waiters: This is also part of your job! If you want to make tips, do the OPPOSITE of what this guy did. Somebody over there needs to train this guy again. After an great meal, he all but ruined out night. He's lucky we left a tip at all.
      Food: A
      Service: F
I've been to Fat Belly's to drink and I've been for dinner. Both are different experiences.
Visiting for dinner, you'll be a little squished but not painfully so. We had a big group (with reservations) so I know it can be hard to fit us all. Everything we ate was delicious and my friend really enjoyed her steak.
If you're more of the drinking type, it can be a little crowded. Hard to complain since it means they're busy, but it's often tight enough that you'll need to direct traffic with a beer in each hand.
On nights with loud music, I've found it's not too loud and I can still maintain a conversation across the bar.
Fat Belly's is a great Irish bar in the heart of downtown EG. Â Parking is tough; if you cannot find parking on the street, you can park up the hill a couple of streets behind the restaurant (old municipal parking lot). Â
Yes, this place does get crowded! Â I did manage to get a table here last Saturday night and I was very happy with the food. Â The boneless wings were done perfectly. Â Nice and crispy. Â We got the "buf-a-que" flavor and they were delicious. Â Also had the clam chowder. Â Basically, the food here is pretty good pub grub.
We also had some live music which was entertaining. Â A must go if you are bar hopping in EG.
Very cool place. Â Downside is the size as it can get pretty busy. Â Mixed drinks are very reasonably priced and food is extremely good. Â I ordered a panini and my friends ordered the quesadilla and a cheeseburger. Â It was one of the best panini I have ever had and at a pub who would have thought.
Review Source:A decent place to grab a bite of pub-fare, quench your thirst and enjoy a game on one of the several flat screen televisions.
The staff is quite pleasant. The food tasty and the drinks well-made (as in you could actually tell that there was alcohol in them).
At 9:00 p.m. they had live music (which was pretty hard to believe in that the place is pretty small). A solo act, guitar player who was damn talented and took requests from a playlist that he had handed out earlier to the people in the crowd. Â Entertaining guy.
EG was waiting for a place like this. There has never to my knowledge been a bar for people in their 20s on Main Street EG. Unless you want to laugh/be creeped out at the Greenwich Hotel, your options were awfully limited. It feels like a Newport bar, transported to 02818. Good live music too. Nicely done.
Review Source:We went on a Friday night for dinner/drinks w. friends and because it's a small place we had to wait about a half hour to get a table....and even while waiting it took about 15 minutes before we could grab a drink at the bar.
It's a really busy restaurant for a small place in east g! but the drinks are delicious (I had a Georgia Peach martini...heaven) and once we had a table the waitstaff was very attentive. A plus: their Big Papi burgers really hit the spot.
We went there with our friends 2 weeks ago.Mistake we did-arrived little too late :)) place is very small,so you have to fight for a table :) I loved the ambiance and the FOOD !! we had mussels, ahi tuna cocktail and crabcakes.Delicious ! Service was great too ,very personal and fast. They also had a live performance that night-that was a little bit too loud for a such a small place,so we left.
Resume : great food,outstanding service,worth every penny !
I was hesitant to write this review as I don't want this place to get too crowded. Â We went here for a quick bite to eat last night and will be coming back. Â The service was friendly and efficient, the food (bbq chicken nachos, a bbq chicken pizza, and a special clams casino pizza) was tasty, and the drinks good. Â The price was quite reasonable as well (three martinis and the aforementioned food for about $60 total including tax and tip).
The place is small, with about six 4-top tables near the windows, six high tops in the middle area, and a bunch of stools at the bar. Â It's kind of dark in there, which is no big deal to me. It's got quite a few flatscreen tvs scattered around the walls so that it seems that you can see what's on wherever you're sitting. Â
We went fairly early in the evening, so we were able to sit down right away. Â I'd hate to see how crowded it could get there later in the evening. Â We'll definitely go back, though, to try some of the other tasty-sounding items on the menu and kick back a few drinks.
This place is great! We just discovered it recently and I'm glad we did. The food is excellent and the prices are fairly reasonable. Owner and Executive chef Scott Parker is an instructor at Johnson & Wales University and it was his dream to open an Irish Pub with high quality pub-style food. This restaurant hits the mark! Great wood grilled pizzas and incredible sandwiches including the "Belly Panini." And the truffle oil pomme frites are magnifique!
The place gets very crowded which shows that it is popular amongst the locals so it's good to get there early. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will definately be returning again and again. A great find!!!
This is their second location. Â And they describe this one as an upscale Irish pub which seems about right. Â They just opened and it really has a good vibe. Â The charm comes from many areas in a small space. And everywhere you look there is a nice new flat screen tv. Â There is a bar, an alcove, raised dining, and pub tables all in a quaint area.
I think it is the perfect balance for guys (who like to watch the game and eat simple food) and ladies (who want to socialize) to come together for good beer and a nice night out. Â My friends and I had great conversations with other patrons the night we went. Â I also noticed there were a lot of other groups of all girls and all guys.
The service was very good.
Even though it is brand new it seems like it has always been there. Â The funny part of me saying that is that before I went there, someone told me that it looked too cool to be on Main Street and I disagree with that comment.
I am sure I will meet friends here often.
