Went back for dinner last night and the food was excellent once again. The service was top notch so I decided to bump them up to 5 stars. The time before must have been a fluke.
This time we tried the peel & eat shrimp for an appetizer and WOW was it good. It is served hot unlike most places and I could have eaten a whole pound myself. My husband had the fried catfish po'boy and I went with the gumbo again and a small salad. My daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese and pickle too!!
Great craft beer, wine & cocktail selection to top it off. I think we are going to come regulars here!
I've heard great things about Fat Cam's and follow them on Facebook so when a group of five us girls were looking for a fun dinner out, we headed to Fat Cam's.
We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night and the place we packed. Â They told us it would be about 45 minutes so we headed over to the crowded bar to grab a drink while we waited. Â We were greeted and served right away. Â Drink specials included some very reasonable wine prices so we were happy while we waited.
We ended up being seated about 30 minutes later at an upstairs table. Â Our server greeted us warmly and explained the nightly specials. Â We started with the bacon dip, which was highly recommended by our server and it did not disappointment - cheesy, bacon goodness served with a side of crostini.
The menu was great and we had a hard time deciding what to order for our entrees. Â Since there were five of us, we all ordered something different so we would have the chance to try multiple dishes.
I ordered the steak sandwich (sans mushrooms) which was perfectly cooked and tender. Â It was served with onions, peppers, a homemade creamy horseradish spread and perfectly seasoned fries. Â Another ordered the gumbo, which looked amazing and was served with perfect hush puppies. Â The third entree was the cajun pasta which was great with a nice little kick. Â One of the nightly specials was fried pollack (flown in fresh from the east coast). Â It was served with homemade tartar and choice of side (mashed redskin potatoes in this case). Â The fish was nicely battered and not greasy. Â The final was another sandwich - the pulled turkey. Â Our server explained the turkey was all dark meat, which wasn't a problem, but thought it was great she took the time to explain so you know what you are getting. Â It was another great sandwich.
The dessert offerings for the evening were bread pudding and harvest pie. Â In my opinion, the bread pudding was just ok (I admit that I'm not a huge fan to begin with) and I thought it was dry and lacking in flavor. Â The harvest pie more than made up for it - it was a delicious combination of pumpkin and sweet potato with a perfect crust, crispy nutty topping and a dollop of whip cream - fall on a plate!
Service was excellent throughout the evening (the place was packed the entiire time too). Â Everything was very reasonably priced. Â My husband was jealous I went without him so we will definitely be back!
Waited a week so the kinks could get worked out and the new to wear off a little before trying Fat Cam's.
We got there at a little after 5:00 and I'm glad we did.
We were so happy to find that they carried our favorite beer (Moose Drool) in bottles!
Ordered drinks and apps which were out pretty quickly.
We got the Crab Fritters and the Bacon Spread. Wow, we were blown away with the quality of the apps alone. The bacon spread was warm and cheesy, served with thin and crispy crostini and the crab fritters were really tasty, but I wasn't sure they even needed the sauce they sent out with them.
Our son ordered the Bacotarian burger with fries. We all shared each others entrees as we normally do at a new restaurant and we all agreed that this bacony delight was up there in our top burgers EVER! Great flavor and an all around good burger.
My wife ordered the catfish and was blown away with the portion size! This catfish was almost an inch thick! Lot thicker than you get anywhere around here! The hush puppies were addictive, they have a slightly sweet taste at first, but at a nice warm, not too corn-meally treat as you get into them a bit.
I ordered the Ribeye with the Maple Bourbon Bacon butter with the red mashed.
Great steak, cooked perfectly. The compound butter was a really tasty addition to this steak. We all loved our experience. You can tell when the chef really cares about the quality of his food and for that we than you, Cam!
The only minor thing would be maybe look at an Reverse Osmosis system in the future as the water around Garver Lake has HIGH levels of Iron and you can taste it in the water. Other than that, I applaud the Hornes for providing this wonderful restaurant for the area and for putting out top notch food.
