Went back for dinner last night and the food was excellent once again. The service was top notch so I decided to bump them up to 5 stars. The time before must have been a fluke.
This time we tried the peel & eat shrimp for an appetizer and WOW was it good. It is served hot unlike most places and I could have eaten a whole pound myself. My husband had the fried catfish po'boy and I went with the gumbo again and a small salad. My daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese and pickle too!!
Great craft beer, wine & cocktail selection to top it off. I think we are going to come regulars here!
I've heard great things about Fat Cam's and follow them on Facebook so when a group of five us girls were looking for a fun dinner out, we headed to Fat Cam's.
We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night and the place we packed. Â They told us it would be about 45 minutes so we headed over to the crowded bar to grab a drink while we waited. Â We were greeted and served right away. Â Drink specials included some very reasonable wine prices so we were happy while we waited.
We ended up being seated about 30 minutes later at an upstairs table. Â Our server greeted us warmly and explained the nightly specials. Â We started with the bacon dip, which was highly recommended by our server and it did not disappointment - cheesy, bacon goodness served with a side of crostini.
The menu was great and we had a hard time deciding what to order for our entrees. Â Since there were five of us, we all ordered something different so we would have the chance to try multiple dishes.
I ordered the steak sandwich (sans mushrooms) which was perfectly cooked and tender. Â It was served with onions, peppers, a homemade creamy horseradish spread and perfectly seasoned fries. Â Another ordered the gumbo, which looked amazing and was served with perfect hush puppies. Â The third entree was the cajun pasta which was great with a nice little kick. Â One of the nightly specials was fried pollack (flown in fresh from the east coast). Â It was served with homemade tartar and choice of side (mashed redskin potatoes in this case). Â The fish was nicely battered and not greasy. Â The final was another sandwich - the pulled turkey. Â Our server explained the turkey was all dark meat, which wasn't a problem, but thought it was great she took the time to explain so you know what you are getting. Â It was another great sandwich.
The dessert offerings for the evening were bread pudding and harvest pie. Â In my opinion, the bread pudding was just ok (I admit that I'm not a huge fan to begin with) and I thought it was dry and lacking in flavor. Â The harvest pie more than made up for it - it was a delicious combination of pumpkin and sweet potato with a perfect crust, crispy nutty topping and a dollop of whip cream - fall on a plate!
Service was excellent throughout the evening (the place was packed the entiire time too). Â Everything was very reasonably priced. Â My husband was jealous I went without him so we will definitely be back!
