Big portions? My veggie wrap was micro-minuscule and what there was almost totally bread and no filling. *Very* limited choices for vegetarians. Coffee served in styrofoam cup. Service was friendly. Wife's Reuben sandwich (sans meat) was ok.

Great little sandwich shop on the Potomac river! Large portions and a really unique sandwich menu. I had the fish and chip special and it was really great and inexpensive. My wife had a massive Club sandwich that she said was delicious as well. Overall I will stop back here again when I'm in the area.
....Did I mention the free popcorn machine? That's a nice addition as well.

Excellent service, fun menu w/ tons of sandwich choices. My meat loving husband was really impressed by The Godfather sandwich, I loved the vegetarian options, and my kids ate everything up and loved the help-yourself popcorn! Would go back in an instant, thanks for a great lunch!

My wife's crab cake sandwich was delicious. Loaded with pure crab and not a lot of filler. I had the fried halibut and it was okay but nothing to get excited about. Our friend said his huge burger and his wife's chicken salad sandwich were also excellent. The french fries were overcooked, but had a good taste to them.

Great quick sandwich stop that was just a block from the beach. Crab cake sandwich was well-seasoned and full of crab. Also had the BLT with egg and cheese (one of their named sandwiches) -- homemade sourdough bread and unbelievably fresh tomatoes. Definite place to return to when down this way!

I am from California but was in the area and had lunch here.  It was just a sandwich called the Godfather but it was really good.

We have visited Colonial Beach for several years now and never went to this place.  This year we went with another couple and since we stayed only a block away, they walked up for a light dinner one night.  Based on their reviews, we all went back the next day for lunch.  I love good bread and the bread they use for their sandwiches is GREAT.  I had the fried flounder sandwich based on my friend's experience the previous day and it was all she said it was and more.  We both think the tartar sauce is homemade. Other selections at our table were the Big Dipper (roast beef with au jus sauce) and chicken salad wrap.  All were proclaimed good.

Definitely order the fries!  Adorned with malt vinegar (on the table)..heaven on a plate.

Not a fancy place by any means but hey, it's the beach....Booths, tables and high tables with bar stools inside, outdoor seating as well.  Servers were friendly and not overbearing.

This place will definitely be on our go-to list for our next trip down to the beach.

We were looking for some good food at a reasonable price one Fall evening.  We found it at Fat Freda's!   It's a bit of a greasy place, and not on the water, but the food speaks for itself.

All the sandwiches here looked great, but I was ultimately tempted by the Crab Cake Sandwich.  It was pretty good, and at a reasonable price.

With that said, don't come here for the service.  It's not that great.  If you just wanna relax and eat your food whenever it arrives, this is the place for you.  The beers are cheap and the people are friendly.

The food was great but our service was non existent. I sat there wondering if I was supposed to order at the counter, and when I went up the lady said she would come to me. I refilled my own drink. I was there with my kids, and while the lady smiled and talked to other customers that she clearly knew, she barely made eye contact with us. And my kids were not screaming or anything. So, the fried shrimp plate was generous and the open faced chili burger was SO GOOD but speak up to get your order taken and get refills.

My experience here was pretty disappointing and forgettable.  They sell mostly standard sandwiches but for some reason it took over 25 minutes to receive our food.  I ordered the crabcake sandwich.  At around $10 even I wasn't expecting much from it and boy was I right.  It was basically a dry, tasteless crabcake patty...on a roll.  That's it.  No lettuce, or tomato; no protruding lump crabmeat, and not even fresh.  It came with a bag of chips.  After eating I was so hungry I had to go down the street to the little food truck and buy a cheeseburger.  My mom really enjoyed her veggie wrap thing, but my stepdad felt the same as me about whatever sandwich he got.

Another strange thing was that my mom ordered a lemonade and they brought a glass bottle of it to her...which had been already opened and drank from.  WTF?  Fortunately they resolved it but the hard-to-find waitress took 10 minutes to ever return for us to complain.  The fact that it was served to begin with is disconcerting since it obviously wasn't a full bottle.

The saving grace here are that prices are pretty low, but since you pretty much need more than one item to not be starving afterwards, I guess it balances out.  If I ever find myself in Colonial Beach, I'd be hard pressed to return to Fat Freda's.

We had lunch here on Saturday, deciding on two sandwiches to split that came with high recommendations; the club and the godfather both of which came with chips. The sandwiches arrived and boy were they generous. My favorite was the godfather; it came Panini style on sourdough and had roasted red peppers and a lot of other stuff on it. I managed to eat a little more than 1/4 . The club is no joke. It's a triple stacked sandwich piled high with the usual club ingredients, but some how Freda's just did the club better. My only grip is it was mayotastic, and not in a good way. I would go back, it was the best bang for its buck which probably explains why every time we passed it, they had customers.

Fat refers to the sandwiches.  These babies are a Saturday afternoon favorite for my wife and I when hunger strikes.  The staff will have you feeling like family.

Four stars for the number of times I rub my belly after downing a Juicy Lucy.
