This place is similar to perkins or denny's, however lacks the consistency in their food. Service at Lunch and breakfast recently was terrible. Food was slow to come out and luke warm.

I will not return. People get excited about the buns, which is part of the restaurants slogan. I don't want to wreck the surprise, but they taste like the frozen dinner rolls from the freezer isle of the grocery store that you bake at home.

The only good thing, is the prices are super cheap... but they should be cause the food is lacking.

For me, their food currently ranges from good to great.  For a long time their vegetarian selections were lacking in excitement and flavor.  A year or two ago they came out with a veggie burger that is killer.  I'm nervous that they will pull it from the menu leaving me lacking a good reason to go there besides the Pearl Street and New Glarus beers they have on tap.

If the mood is right I recommend the fondue they make with their homemade bread as a dipper.  It's a lot of cheese and carbs though so don't go it alone unless you are really hungry.

    Restaurant Review
TALAME, what is that you ask a amazing white bread super flaky and delicious. I wish that I lived around this area which would have made the dinner experience better given the low prices and large portion size. You may ask why did I give it 3 stars than... Well unfortunately my wife's cajun shrimp and andouille alfredo was super salty and the noodles were slightly overcooked. The sausage and shrimp don't get me wrong were cooked perfectly but the noodles if you could scale back the boiling and make it slightly over el dente and maybe less noodles this would be an amazing dish. I ended up with the prime rib with garlic butter finish. This was simply amazing along with the two sides that come with your meal. I felt so bad that we wasted 3/4 of the pasta dish because my wife couldn't finish it and I was super stuffed from my meal and the talame goodness

Pro- large portion size, relatively inexpensive, talame bread so fresh!

Con- super salty and overcooked noodle

Hidden deal- Inexpensive dinner, great for dates

This was my third visit to Fayze's and none of my previous experiences were memorable or incredibly delicious. However, this restaurant is the "go-to" place for college students and locals even though I prefer Hackberry's, the fancier (more expensive) restaurant above the Food COOP also located downtown. Portions are large, I ordered two eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancakes for about $6-7. None of it was particularly flavorful or exciting. Service was slow on a Friday morning as quite a few large parties were seated ahead of us. My husband was not impressed with their eggs benedict. Prices are reasonable for the quantity of food provided.

Fayze's breakfasts are a fantastic value.  My only complaint is that their prices are so low that it attracts huge crowds on the weekend.  If you arrive after 9am, there is the possibility of a looooong wait.

We were at a wedding in LaCrosse last night and needed a good breakfast this morning. One of our friends went to college here and mentioned Fayze's.  So happy that we mentally bookmarked that.  There was a heck of a wait, but my omelet was really yummy and the buns are as good as the hype.  I just wish we had noticed that there was seating at the bar, so we could have possibly cut that wait time down.

On the way home from a Joyride to Iowa and Minnesota we noticed a GIANT Billboard advertising "Fayze's Restaurant and BAKERY". I emphasize bakery for a reason you will soon see.

From the moment we saw that sign we had one thing on our minds,,,PIE!
    Bakery = PIE...right?

When we got there we followed proper procedure and ordered our dinner first, even though we could've eaten our PIE first!

I started my dinner with a cup of Beer Cheese Soup, which was just OK. My Prime Rib was really good and the Hash Browns that came as a side were Great! Diane loved her Salad and perfectly rare Filet.

After Dinner I excused myself to go to the Men's Room and told Diane to go ahead and order our dessert. When I came back, I excitedly asked what we were having. Unfortunately the answer was...NOTHING! What? A Restaurant and Bakery with No PIE? The waiter said that all they had was a Brownie Sundae or what was wrapped up in the display case, which consisted of a few cinnamon rolls and doughnuts.

Our food was good, but a place advertising itself as a Restaurant and BAKERY should have at least a few choices (other than Ice Cream) for dessert.

Yelp lists Fayze's as not being Wheelchair Accessible.  This is WRONG! There is a ramp at the front entrance and the Men's Room is easily navigated in a wheelchair.

Delicious!!  We shared the veggie bennie, polish omelette, and fuego potatoes.  So good!  The veggie bennie was my favorite, which is saying something since I love bacon.  Also got the bacon Bloody Mary, I highly recommend.

I come through LaCrosse every few years for business and Fayze's is my stop for breakfast.

Cinnamon, French Toast that is 6" thick and super tasty. This is why I come back to Fayze's on each trip.

A cinnamon roll that is as big as your face that I have seen send several colleagues into a sugar/pastry induced coma in post-breakfast meetings!

The breakfast burrito is also pretty good...

I've never had anything but breakfast here but I have dined here with 20+ people over the years and breakfast is always a hit!

For dinner, I go to Piggy's but that is another review....

Went for dinner. There was nothing special about the food we had. The cheese curd appetizer was ok, but there was NO sauce to dip them in, we weren't even offered ketchup, how weird. I ordered the Tomato Basil Chicken veggie pasta off the 500 Club menu, not because of the calories, but because I don't eat pork or beef and didn't want just a salad. The chicken was so-so. The veggies even less exciting, kind of tasted like frozen reheated. There was hardly any sauce, I really had to work to get enough on each bite so it wasn't just plain and I ended up leaving at least half the pasta at the end, pretty much looking like it just came out of the pot. The salad before was as someone else mentioned, nothing special. My husband had the chicken dumpling soup before his meal, way too salty. His entree, the filet mignon was subpar and our waiter forgot to bring the A1 he asked for, so we had to ask another server for it, halfway through his steak. I had part of one of the rolls, I think it was the Talame bread, but can't say it was all that unique.

So, have to go with the 2 Star because, as Yelp says, "Meh. I've experienced better."

This is a La Crosse staple. Food is always good, and cheap, even for La Crosse standards. You can easily do lunch for two for $20, including tip, if not less.

Their breakfast is what's to really rave about though, delicious choices!

They also have a 500 Club menu that lines out under 500 calorie meals, and other nutrition facts about them for those who want to eat lighter.

The wait here gets nuts on weekend mornings, so be warned. The after church crowd is huge, so don't be surprised if you have to 30-60 minutes. They have a bar area you can eat at though, that's first come first serve with good service, and usually has open spots.

They can easily make items gluten free as well, and understand Gluten Free practices.

The talame bun is super good...as well as the rest of the baked goods.  I enjoy their breakfasts and lunches as well.

    Great and interesting place...

Located across from the Bodega, this establishment offers a bar and a restaraunt style setting.  The atmosphere is comfortable and "family-like", with wall decor from all over the world.

Their menu was extremely diverse and loaded with goodies.  I enjoyed the fact that they even offered a "500 club" menu on the back for those that care about trying to remain remotely healthy while eating out.  I opted for the French Dip from that menu and paired it with a Bloody Mary to aid in my hangover recovery.  Both selections did not dissapoint.

Fayze's is a great place to drink or dine in the morning, day, or night.

First off, Fayze's prides itself in being a bakery, yet the basket of bread brought to my table was cold. Not a good start. The salad I ordered as a side was brought out with the bread, and it was apparent that it to had been sitting around a while. Typical, nothing special pre-bagged iceberg lettuce with a couple of baby carrots and a wedge of tomato on the side. For my entre I ordered the bacon and mushroom steak tips with a bourbon glaze over a bed of rice pilaf. It was excellent! Steak tips were big, almost like filet medallions, and very tender. Glaze was good, not too sweet or overpowering. Interior of the restaurant was typical older supper club look, wood panels, old pictures etc. Not crowded when I was there at 7:00 on a Thurs. night.

Much like Chaunce S lamented that he never got to try the famed Talame, I did not either. I did order a Fayze club. I think I thought it was going to be on the "bun" but it was instead served on "whole grain" bread. I think there was bread, it was difficult to ascertain for all of the mayonnaise. These people like to use mayo. They must really like mayo and want all patrons to subscribe to their love of the eggy-oily assimilation. Maybe they are fascinated as I always am, that eggs into golden colored oil turns white under high speed. They just want to share it LIBERALLY with everyone.

As I hope you may have guessed, my complaint here is the abusive, excessive use of mayonnaise on an otherwise VERY standard, ordinary sandwich. In fact, I couldn't finish the thing for the amount of mayonnaise and just decided to throw it out.

I can't tell you about their chicken salad, or the famous buns or even how their breakfast was. I merely went there for lunch and was doused in mayonnaise. I will say that for advertising themselves as a bakery, they had one of the weakest selections of baked goods I have seen in some time.

If I ever find myself in this area again and I am in need of a place for lunch, I will head to Onalaska.

Good casual dining. Home town foods.

Alas, we never got to try the much-acclaimed talame. We were seated immediately, but the server disappeared, never brought water, and when she did return, she only did a cursory glance at other diners' tables...and she didn't even bus empty plates from them.

As a former server, I have to say, she was the worst I've seen for the past few years.

We waited ten minutes and then left.

So this is less a review about Fayze's and more of a review of the server with the tattoo on her wrist.

Miss, quit your day job, please.

I stopped in to Fayze's for a business lunch on my first-time visit to La Crosse. It's located right in historic downtown La Crosse, which is a really cool area.

Inside, it's an old-time restaurant with quite a bit of flair, but in a good way. As we were walked to our seat, we passed by the dessert display case, which was full of--as my local guest put it--"naughty goodies". The temptation to indulge was so great!

I ordered the Turkey Burger off of their "500 Club" section on the back of the menu, which had a number of selections that come in at about 500 calories. Everything in the "500 Club" comes with a side salad (french fries weren't listed as an option on the back of the menu; thanks, Fayze's, for removing the temptation). The salad came out almost instantly and the burger before I had even finished by salad.

This was my first time having a turkey burger, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The patty was ground turkey, onion, wild rice, celery and dillweed all pressed together. I'm sooo glad the turkey burger wasn't just plain turkey. The extra ingredients gave the meat a nice "kick". I decided to save some calories and skipped the creamy dill dijon the burger comes with and bit into the enormous Talame bun (apparently, Fayze's owns the trademark to Talameâ„¢?). The bun was nice and fluffy yet not too "cushiony". Yum.

After I was finished, I had no room for the yummy deserts I eyed up on my way in. Well, that's not entirely true--I could have made room if I *really* wanted to, but I was at a very good level of "full" and didn't want to negate my option to stick with the guilt-less "500 Club" menu.

We finished lunch in less than a half-hour, and were out-the-door for $10 per person, and that's including a generous tip (because our waitress was great).

Definitely stop into Fayze's if you're in town and looking for a unique sandwich joint.

Piggy's is the best place downtown for breakfast after a late night of indulgence and debauchery at, in my case Bodega, Del's or Popcorn.

But anyway, I digress. I have fond memories of coming here with large or small groups and every single person ordering a bloody mary, mimosa, or a beer at 10:30am. Now that's Wisconsin! Gotta love it. Their bloody mary's are quite good and served with a beer chaser. They might put a meat stick in them or something. The exact details escape me, but I order sans-meat stick if that's the case.

For breakfast, college students take note: $2.99 gets you a huge plate of eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. Exactly what you may need after said debauchery.

The lobster benedict was covered in oily sauce. The eggs weren't poached, but scrambled. Little bits of lobster were scattered haphazardly on the eggs.

It wasn't eggs benedict. The waiter told me the eggs were always scrambled for this dish.

Out for brunch on a Sunday morning, I knew dishes would probably be rushed at this popular spot. I was too hungry to make the waiter take the dish back. The hash browns were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. With a little salt, they tasted great.

A woman at the next table complained about an omelet that was fried too long.

The original owners were of Lebanese descent, the waiter said. A year ago, the restaurant changed ownership.

The talame buns were fluffy and yeasty. Tweaked from a recipe for Lebanese flat bread, the original owners made the bread palatable for Midwesterners by coaxing the bread to rise.

If you change flat bread to rise, can you really call it talame bread?

I passed on a comment about the oily sauce and the waiter came back, saying the kitchen said I was probably right. The waiter offered a complimentary cookie from the bakery. It was a nice gesture that I declined.

I always think of Fayze's fondly. This is the place to be for brunch, maybe not on a Sunday and maybe not when I order lobster benedict.

Kind of a silly decision to go here for breakfast on a Sunday morning but pleasantly the wait was only about 20 minutes. I ended up getting the lobster benedict and it was great. I was afraid that it was going to be drenched in sauce but they put on a perfect amount. I wasn't able to finish the potatoes but the couple of bites that I had were good.

Located in the heart of downtown. I've always known about it, but I had never tried it. They have a really great sandwiches. And they have great Margarita's. I always try the Margarita's every where I go, because if you make a mean Margarita the rest of the drinks are usually just as good. It only cost $20 for my mom and I. And you get a free dessert on your birthday.

Note: They also have a bakery that sells breads, rolls, and bars. That are so delicious. A must try when downtown.

A really great breakfast and lunch place in the heart of downtown La Crosse.  This was one of my favorite places to go for a nice sitdown meal without blowing the bank.  Whatever you order, make sure to get some of their delicious home-made Talame rolls.  They sound exotic, but they are really just a white sourdough-ish delicious bread.  I was always partial to the chicken sandwiches with the Talame roll, everything is good though.  Gotta love the beer chaser that comes with the Bloody Mary too.

Really, it's not often that a place can offer something as unique and delicious as the bread at Fayze's.  It's worth it to stop in and try it out - you may leave with a dozen rolls under your arm.
