After reading the reviews here you'd think the servers stink and the food isn't very good, but I've been to both locations now, Dayton and Troy, and I was really impressed at both. Perhaps my expectations were low because of the yelp reviews, but I'd like to think not.
This place a heck of a burger, and for bar food it's extraordinary. What other bar in town serves burgers and asks how well done you'd like it?
As far as service goes, I can't say that anything stood out, which is exactly what I want. It most certainly wasn't poor service. What's this about the usual suspects for the bar selection!? That's crazy talk. They have the dogfish head Midas touch on the menu, which in my book is way out of the ordinary.
On top of the good food and drinks, families can come and let there kids go wild in the arcade while they eat and watch a game.
Five of us stopped in for lunch on Friday. The first hint should have been the empty parking lot - at noon on a Friday, any decent place should be busy. The interior is clean and reasonably well decorated We were promptly seated, then waited 11 minutes for a server to take our drink orders. That's inexcusable when there are three servers in the place and only two tables with customers. Ten minutes later, the drinks arrived and she took appetizer orders (we were waiting for another person). Twenty minutes later, our friend arrived, it still took 5 minutes for him to order his drink. Finally the appetizers showed up and we put in our lunch orders and asked for clean silverware since the tableknives in each set was dirty. One guy ordered a sandwich with no green peppers, it came out with green peppers on it. The server said she would take it back but by then he was too hungry to wait for it to be done over. One guy's wife asked for some Buffalo sauce for her chicken sandwich, she got it about the time she took the last bite of the sandwich. Two of us ordered wings - they were tiny, badly overcooked, and had a bit of sauce drizzled on them that had no heat and little flavor, mostly just grease.
If there was a 'negative' star rating, this place would qualify at about -2. None of us will go back, the service is the pits and the food is little better.
I have tried this place multiple times and have tried my best to let them redeem themselves from having that bad of service but each time they let me down. The food is not that bad but in these days and times, I will choose to spend my money where I can get both food and service. I tried to avoid the dismal service by ordering take out. I stood at the front and placed my order, which was taken like I was bothering the hostess. Some confusion when the food was done and how it eventually got out to me as well. I should have looked at it but yes it was wrong. I called to complain but fell on deaf ears. I decided after a few months to try again. I passed two employees standing out front standing and smoking on my way in. Little did I know that these two were supposed to be working the front. I stood and waited and tried to flag down a waitress or the bartender but I guess they are just used to people standing at the hostess desk waving their arms for help. After 8 mins, I left and will never be back. If I owned this place, the first order of business would be to fire the hostess/front staff and start over. It seems a shame to invest in the cleaning up of a run down building and put in decor so that poor service can be your downfall.
Review Source:When I go to a bar, I go to drink, and I'd heard the selection of craft beers here was exceptional. Â Only a few taps, some stocked with "the usuals", so the draft selection left a little to be desired. Â Their were two bartenders working, and it was obvious that the first one I spoke to knew nothing about beer except how to pour it. Â
I ordered a total of 3 beers and enjoyed the race that evening. Â My first impression was that I will definitely have to come back more often. Â The Edmund Fitzgerald on tap was definitely a selling point. Â Then I got my bill. Â 5.50 for the first draft, then 6.50/ea. for the Edmund Fitzgerald! Â Used to frequenting South Park Tavern I'm more accustomed to not just a better selection, but a steady $5 per glass.
Still, the bar is not bad, and due to it's proximity to home, it's definitely a plus.  Also, when I came  in a person was smoking outside, and I noticed none inside, which is always a plus.  I would go back, but don't expect I will make a habit of it.
I do not recommend this restaurant. The service is absolutely horrible. The food is mediocre at best. My wife and I went early on a weeknight so the place wasn't terribly busy. We were greeted by two staff members arguing where to sit us. We then waited for our waitress to take our drink order, which was incorrect when she brought it. I asked her to please exchange my beer for the one I ordered and she did, but when she brought it back to our table she had another glass off the bar that had another customers leftovers in the bottom! When I asked her to take the glass away she seemed to become agitated with my request The appetizers and our dinner came out 35 minutes after ordering...at the same time. It took us almost an hour and a half to complete a meal of sandwiches and fries. After I asked for the check our waitress talked to the table behind us for 11 minutes ( I timed it because I was fed up.) I left a 2 dollar cash tip on the table and put the meal on my check-card. When I checked my bank account 4 or 5 days later I had been charged 20% more than my meal. I called and asked to speak to a manager on a Friday afternoon and she told me that this situation was not an emergency and she would take a look at it on Monday. When I informed her that she had an employee stealing from customers she told me to call the police. It took me almost a week to get my account credited the difference and this was only because I happened to call a few days later and the owners wife answered the phone. I would hesitate to give this restaurant 1 star but I didn't get sick from the food so I guess that is one plus.
Review Source:My wife and I read the article about this place in a local newspaper and were anxious to try it since it's very close to us. There were some comments under the newspaper article that gave us hesitation such as; very slow service, mediocre food, and rude hosts, etc. Upon entering the business, the hostess didn't welcome us but just said "this way" and we followed, not a huge deal really. It took almost 10 minutes before a server ever came over to offer us drinks, take our order, or even say hi (they were not very busy during this time either). They did have a large beer selection (majority of them "craft" beers), when we asked about a few our server did not seem to be very knowledgeable, she seemed to be in a hurry anyway. Our drinks came, our food was ordered, we were almost completely done with our meal before the server came back over to ask how everything was. In addition to this, my wife had ordered salad which the server said would be brought out before the meal, we never got it, mid way through the meal she said she was going to get it (it never came). When the check came I made sure it wasn't on the ticket, the server said, oh I forgot about it, but do you want it to take home? Of course we said no thank you. While we were waiting for her to take my credit card, another server was cleaning a table right next to us, as she sprayed some unknown cleaner on the table she dowsed my arm with the over spray (luckily we were done eating by then), she said "oh sorry, it just kind of bounces of these tables". This whole evolution had taken a little over 1 hour, the table behind us (who were there before we came into the business) were still waiting on some of their food to come out and back out (after being sent back) from the kitchen, I would have left if I were them. Needless to say, I left a big $0.00 tip and my tip to you would be to not dine here. We did check out the "game" area before we left, all very old machines (all second hand at least) and I would say at least half of them had out of order signs on them. Not one person other than us were in this area and there ere cups and beer bottles sitting on top of games, etc. I am going to bet this business will not be around very long unless some major changes are made, we will not go back.
Review Source:I think I was expecting something more dive-y, but it was very nice on the inside. Â The building used to be a flooring center/warehouse if I remember correctly. Â So, the restaurant is on one end, and down the hallway is a game room of about 2 dozen older arcade video games and pinball machines, plus shooting & driving games, air hockey and pool tables. Â
The restaurant area is very clean, bright and has great kitschy vintage gas station decor and a great looking bar, filled with some killer craft beers and other goodness.
The menu appears to be pretty standard fare, but our food was well above average.  I'm normally quite thrifty when it comes to how food is priced, even if I'm not paying for it.  I thought their prices were very reasonable, not seeing anything on the menu over $15, and that was a steak.  However, it did puzzle me  that a BLT and a double decker club sandwich were the same price - $8.95.  (Nine bucks is pricey for a BLT, unless it's on fresh bread with heirloom tomatoes and nearly a pound of bacon.  It just didn't make sense that essentially a club is a BLT with more meat, more toppings and an extra piece of bread, but doesn't cost any more than the BLT.)
My fiance got the Double Stacker Pepper Jacker burger and fell very immediately in love with it. Â Up until this point, he'd been having a torrid affair with the free range burgers from Christopher's, but this won his heart. Â I took a bite of it and was equally impressed. Â They'll give Tank's and Murray's a run for their money for biggest and best burger in Dayton.
I'm a sucker for the club sandwich, so I ordered that. Â Aesthetically, one of the best looking clubs I'd ever laid eyes on - and just as tasty. Could have used more turkey, but I'll let that slide. Â What really won me over are their french fries. They're beer battered!
The only complaint we had is the wait for our food. We didn't order an appetizer and they kept the beverages coming, but it took an awfully long time to plate a medium burger and a cold sandwich. Â But, we both felt like they were worth the wait. Â Plus, they *just* opened, so they'll have some turnaround and eventually get seasoned staff in there that will speed up the process. Â Otherwise, service was very friendly and the staff was quite knowledgeable about the menu.
One caveat - if you're looking to get your game on, you might want to give it a while. Â I noticed a lot of the machines were out of order. Again, I contribute this to the fact that they're brand new, and they may not have a good resource to tap yet for getting these things fixed in a timely manner.
Overall, it's a fun local joint with great, reasonable priced food, so  can see a lot of buzz building about Filling Station.
