We dropped into the Fitzwilliams Irish Pub to watch the New England Patriots game on Oct. 7. Â Though the pub was not particularly busy, the service was rather slow - it took about ten minutes to get a bottled beer! Â The menu was limited and rather average. Â The food was satisfactory, but nothing to get excited about. Â I suppose this is what you would expect for a hotel pub. Â If staying at the Marriott, Fitzwilliams Irish Pub is an adequate fall back if you lose the motivation to leave the hotel or if your plans fall through, but I wouldn't expect anything special here.
Review Source:I'm reviewing this place as a person who wanted food instead of booze. Â If you are at the Marriott and can't find the time to get the hotel shuttle to drive you someplace else, I recommend you order DELIVERY rather than punish yourself by eating here.
The food is not awful; it's not GOOD but it won't kill you. Â Lean towards appetizers and pub food like fried things and sandwiches and you'll be OK... as long as you are OK with paying hotel restaurant prices for mediocre (and sometimes cold) food. Â It's the service and the furniture that will give you the most pain.
Forget large parties. Â You can get an uncomfortable table for 6, but mostly they have tables for 2 and 4. Â There are so many "architectural details" that it's hard to re-arrange anything for your group. Â People with mobility problems will be limited to the entry area since you need to climb steps to get to the tables nearer the bar.
Service is superficially friendly but they look askance at you if you don't order lots of expensive drinks. Â They will bring you water on request but won't refill it... again except on request. Â If one person in your party requests more water, well, they'll bring that person *a* glass of water. Â Food comes in covered dishes from a kitchen which is at an unknown distance from this room.
For those of you who actually want to talk to the people you come in with, do NOT go here on a Friday or Saturday night. Â The music blares loudly and they won't turn it down even if you are the only people in the place.
So if you are hungry, ask the hotel for menus of local places that deliver. Â Eat in your room. Â Ask the hotel for a ride to the Mall, or to the Macaroni Grill, or to ANY other restaurant within a mile of the hotel (there are at least 20). Â You'll get better food and service, and possibly save money.
Oh goodness, too many nights have began or ended at Fitzy's. Parking is free inside the Marriott lot.
As far hotel bars go, this is above average in my book. They've got a nice selection of beers, although what's on tap isn't necessarily a long list. Bartenders can be talkative and whip up some unique creations if you ask. Mixed drinks are in the middle of the pack, I don't think they are watered down.
Some of the food is good here. Lemon chicken sandwich was okay. Nachos were tasty. Some of the servers aren't that nice, and that's kind of a shame as I expected the pub atmosphere to be more open.
They've got karaoke on Tuesday or Wednesday night, I forgot which. They do have a few TVs here as well.
Chips and salsa consisted of stale tostitos brand tortilla chips and some canned salsa. If I wanted that I surely would have gone to the supermarket instead of the restaurant. The steak tips were dry, but ok. The fries were very over salted. The burger was an average frozen patty. Everything was just bad.
Review Source:A very nice Irish pub situated inside a Marriott. We sat at the bar, so service was fast and friendly.
A pretty decent selection of draft beer, and the mixed drinks are served strong.
We tried their spinach artichoke dip and it was delicious! Huge chunks of tender artichoke hearts, cheesy and warm--just perfect.
All in all, a good place to hang out for drinks/appetizers!
Appointments of bar are nice, (ie room to mill about, adequate seating, and overall attractive space.) Â Although it's been a while since being there, the waitstaff and bartenders could use some brush up on personality. Â No one was rude, but they could've a smile once during the 3 hours my party was there. Â Drinks had to be 'hailed' and service was noticeably slow, although plenty of staff was on hand. Â @~$6 per draft, I would hoping for a little more atmosphere on a Thursday night. Â I plan to geive them another try....
Review Source:Not bad been here twice for a quick meal while staying at the hotel.
Marriott Burger was good and well cooked no complaints.
Got the steak tips another time. I asked if they had rice. The bartender said no, but he would check next door.
The other restaurant provided rice for my meal. Thanks, I was not feeling fries with my steak.
Very good service and friendly atmosphere.
I'm not sure there's another bar/pub in the entire town of Burlington so this place becomes the 'de facto' place to visit.
Typically, the service is slow and unfriendly. Sometimes you will get service at your table but then they never come back for another round. Is it a 'one time' event? Do we need to flag you down to get another drink?
The cocktails have tasted watered-down lately. I'm not even sure there was gin in my last two drinks.
Also, I've ordered a round of drinks for my friends and I - and the bartender then started filling other drink orders before he finished mine.
They will also add gratuity to your bill for you - so be careful. Even a small order for four people had 18% added on to it.
I live in the area and found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out. Â It sit just inside the Marriot lobby on the left. Â
The size of the place is pretty decent for a hotel bar and the atmosphere is nice without too much of an Irish overtone. Â The bar was a little small but there was plentiful table seating. Â They also have numerous TVs and was a good place to watch some college football and the Red Sox all at once. Â
The menu was kinda small. Â It was only one page, just the front. Â I would have liked to see some more variety. Â I ordered the Emerald Greens without meat and it was very tasty and much larger than I expected as an appetizer. Â My boyfriend ordered a cup of the clam chowder and it was absolutely delicious. Â Definitely recommend it. Â For dinner I had the pulled pork which was ok but i have had better. Â It was a little dry but still tasty. Â The fries are around par with most other pub fair I've had. Â My boyfriend had the Cod and chips which was really really good. Â Not very greasy at all and it melted in your mouth. Â Also recommended.
The service was good as well. Â There was one waitress for the whole place but since there wasn't too many people there it was okay. Â She was pretty attentive. Â It was kinda annoying when the apps and entrees came out at the same time but she gave us covers to keep the food warm.
All in all this was a pretty decent place and I would probably go back and bring some friends.
I was pleasantly surprised (like other reviewers) by this place. Â The burger was one of the better I've had in a while...juicy, cooked right, and tender. Â I liked the bun they put with it and the vermont cheddar was really yummy. Â I thought my fries were a tad undercooked, but still pretty tasty as well. Â I liked their tap selection and the decor was nice and comfortable, especially for a hotel bar/restaurant! Â Not sure I'll ever be in a position to go here again, but I wouldn't mind it if I was!
Review Source:I was "late" for dinner. Actually I was 10 minutes early so I sat at the Fitzwilliams bar nursing a Sam in a frosty pint glass. With a football game on one screen and a Bruins game on another, I had half an eye on the entrance. Unfortunately I didn't see my party slip in until I finished my beer and took a lap around the dining area. Oops. As I sat down, the waitress stood over our table. Her pen was ready to add my order to theirs. I scanned the menu and I quickly chose the burger.
When it arrived, the first thing that I noticed was the bacon. The house burger comes with crispy bacon. Score! The second thing that I noticed was the bread, untoasted focaccia bread. Miss. Wide right. My fear that the sandwich overall would be dry was warranted. The juiciness of the 1/2 pound of ground grilled Angus and melted Vermont cheddar could not overcome the dryness of that untoasted focaccia. With coated fries and a pickle on the side, it was an okay meal for a restaurant set as an Irish pub at a suburban hotel.
Fitzwilliams is a great Irish Pub close to home!!! it is in the Burlington marriott, just up the street from the Burlington Mall. The food is  good, the bar is packed with alcohol and many irish beers. They even have a neat St patrick's day countdown clock.  They have  a big large screen TV and many other TVS to watch the big game on. The bartenders and wait-stafff are friendly and attentive and overall it is a good expereince. I'd recommend coming on Wednesday nights for Karaoke Night.Enjoy and have fun!!!
Review Source:I would not have believed you, probably, if you'd have told me that you found a great hotel bar near the Burlington Mall. Â Or near any mall. Â Or in any hotel. Â I mean, I'll cop to once going to Boomer's in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, which I think is in a Holiday Inn, and having a great time, but I was 21, hammered, and did I mention 21? Â I mean, at that point, anything that would let me in was an awesome bar.
Knowing better now, I still was fairly impressed by Fitzwilliams. Â It's all wood, has a nice bar area, friendly bartenders, and pulled a nice pint (though I'm no Guinness drinker, so keep that in mind). Â All in all, I had a fun time there, and funnily enough, the 352 bus took me straight there from near the State Street T stop so I could surprise my boyfriend for his last day of work. Â Well done.
