Bam; Flemings knocked it out of the park! I'll admit, I'm usually a Ruths' Chris guy, but the one in Destin was less than stellar on Father's Day. With that being said, we had a bad taste in our mouth, and decided to make it up, and dine at Flemings a few days later.
Its probably been 2-3 years snce I've eaten at a Flemings. Throughout the years, I've probably dined at 12 different Flemings, with the first being in Tampa about 10 years ago. I've always loved their wine list, and the fact they serve *prime* beef. When we walked in, we were immediately seated, and the hostess gave me an ipad to peruse through the wine list. Very cool! {salivating}
When our server (Dan) came by, I immediately recognized him from the old Copper Grill location on 98. He's a character, but he knows the menu, and wine list, like no other. Â For entrees, all of us had filets, and they were prepared to perfection. Very tasty! We paired the filets with some Silver Palm Cab. Heaven.
Great service, excellent food, and a wine list to die for. I will skip pass Ruth's Chris next time I'm in Destin, and head directly to Flemings!
Perfection should be on tap here considering the prices. 3 people-$293 drink tab and $177 food tab. Not including the substantial tip we gave our server. We had a good experience but for nearly $600 total it should be mind blowing!
We each had a pre dinner cocktail and shared 2 bottles of wine...hey we like to drink. The wine in a liquor store is around $60, here $120. They offer you an ipad wine list, thats fun and the options are plentiful. Our first bottle comes out and the decanters are warm so no decanting for us...bottle sits on the counter behind us. However the wine was chilled well and delicious.
We had one app for our table along with bread. Fried pork belly, the guys loved it...nearly licked the plate clean. I shared a wedge salad (because I know it is huge) which they kindly split for us and another had the Heirloom salad featuring red and golden beets. Both salads were perfect and the bread was delicious.
Entrees were the filet, grilled salmon and a bunch of sides. Sides were Chipotle Mac n Cheese, Onion Rings, Green Beans and Double Cut French Fries. Filet and Salmon- both perfect! Green Beans not very good and Double Cut fries they were not, seasoned well but not hot or crispy just a bowl full of ugly looking fries. The server says they used to be shoestring so I guess because they are slightly larger they decided to call them double cut. Needless to say the fries and green beans were still on the table when we left.
Service went well from beginning to end. Our server was nice but we actually thought it was her first day due to the puzzled looks we received from her upon asking a few questions, we actually asked when she started-she replied October? Apparently Flemings changes things up often and the staff gets lost in it.
Pet Peeve Alert #1 Please server don't pick up the check while we are still there enjoying the last of our wine, I know you want to see how much you made but we aren't done here...#2 Â don't sit us next to the kitchen when the restaurant is only half full...
Big Picture, we had an enjoyable evening among friends and would go back. The bar is just set so high when the prices are set so high.
Any restaurant that has a gluten-free menu should train their servers on g-free food, right? I know it's extra work, but if you don't want us in there, put a "Stay Away" sign on the door. Certainly don't tempt us in with your menu targeting us. I explained to the server that my guest and I were both allergic to gluten. I even noted it on the reservation, but there was bread at every turn - on my salad plate, on my boyfriend's entree. Cross contamination is sometimes hard to avoid, but this was carelessness. We both ended up sick. Ugggh.
