I don't like it when a server blows off a print-a-deal so you can't use it, and a place doesn't resolve the problem quickly and efficiently until you name drop and ask for management. Besides embarrassing, our time was worth more by five times the hour for the amount of this dumb deal anyway, and then the food isn't even face-melting, it's just okay. Wish em the best, but now that my friend's going away party is over, I will never ever ever be back to this establishment. The history in the area is great, but there are too many awesome places right down the street! Bump you.

Fly Bar has a very fun atmosphere and the bartenders are fabulous. They come up with the most original, fresh drinks.

The rooftop bar is awesome to hang out at night although you cannot get food on the rooftop.

I have tried almost everything on the menu and have honestly really enjoyed every item I have tried. The hummus, nachos, salad, ahi tuna, fries-everything is great. They are all tapas size so you can order a bunch and share with friends.

The best time to go is during happy hour when the lounge menu is half off and so are the drinks.

One of my favorite places downtown to hang out.

30 minutes to straighten out the Groupon madness... Can't use it on weekends.  Here's your bill, sorry about your luck.  Oh wait, yeah you can use this on weekends.  Oh, but sorry we can't read it well enough, your printer's ink was too low when it was printed.  Oh wait, we can just offer to print it out for you in the back.  Seriously 30 minutes of haggling.  fml

On the real, the last time I ever step foot in this over-priced, wanna-be-swanky, six-dollars-to-park establishment.

Atmosphere: It's hard to beat this place for ambiance. The atmosphere is awesome. It's a very hip little spot. The decor inside is very very cool, and the roof top bar is a great spot to hang out . Even the bathrooms have cool art.  Five Stars for Atmosphere.

Food: We had the Shrimp Skewers which were over cooked (tough) and the Ahi Tuna which was very mediocre. The presentation was good, the food looks interesting and tasty, but ours didn't live up to our expectations. We didn't complain, we just figured for the price, it should be much better. As for food, I'd give it  2 stars.

Service: The service was slow. Of course,  we did order a couple of mojitos during the 5 o'clock rush hour...but 20 minutes is too long to wait for your drink. I finally had to walk to the bar and order a couple of bottled beers to hold us over. 2 stars for service

All in all, I'd go back just because the place has a really cool vibe. I'd stick with bottled beer and skip the food though and head straight to the roof top bar, or perhaps go at a less busy time. I think it's definitely worth checking out the roof top deck though. Prime drinking spot that has a nice view of the sky line at night.

Fly bar is a fun time with good drinks, vibes and music.  I really like that they have a rooftop bar as well!

They have a great happy hour with $5 Sangria, discounted well drinks and half off the lounge menu.  You can look on their website to figure out specific happy hours.

This place is unexpected in its location and it is a testament to how good it is that it is still busy.  There is parking in the back, but it was completely packed at 6 p.m. on a Thursday, so I parked across the street, which ended up being a flat rate of $2.  Honestly, if this was located in a more desirable place, parking would not be that cheap.

Inside it is super noisy, so we opted to sit outside, which was still pretty loud.  Do not expect to have an intimate date here.

I thought the Sangria was pretty good, but it is not a normal Sangria.  They only use apples and oranges to make it and it has a less fruity taste.  It seriously looked like the color of blood to me.

I tried the mac and cheese and I honestly felt like it could use more truffle.  It was good, but I was expecting better.  I think if they added more truffle it could be great.

When we left about 8:30 p.m., there were spaces in their free parking lot.  So if you're driving to get here, try going a little later if you want it to be emptier, because I bet a lot of people go here straight from work.

I often wonder where all the younger professionals are in Tampa Bay and now I know, they are all here.

Drinks: Hand-crafted, delicious, slow-to-arrive, quality ingredients, expensive.

Food: Only fries are vegan, and nothing to substitute for aioli (I make it vegan at home!).

Service: Bartenders are nice but slow. It's part of the hand-crafted thing.

Atmosphere: Awesome look, douchey hipster customers, deserted street, great rooftop if it's not raining or hot.

    Please add some vegan meals!

Fly is pretty great spot. Close to my work and indoor outdoor roof top seating! Watch out for parking there it can be tricky. I like the vibe and it is a relaxing happy hour location for the hip downtown hard working crowd :)

Location is perfect - within walking distance of my office. For those who are not in the area, it is a great spot to check out with a restaurant and bar downstairs and roof top bar for shennangins.

Great happy hour specials and food. My all time go-to is the $5 sangria and goat cheese. Appetizers from the lounge menu are half off and the downtown crowd is always up for a quick drink...or two.

This place is great before it gets too crowded unless you are into being seen out and about. This is we're the Tampa elite go to eat and be seen. Good food, good drinks. Upstairs is always a great place to get away from the crowd for a few and collect your thoughts or sober up.

    Highly recommend!!!

Went for a girl's night this past Saturday night, and it was a GREAT choice.  The decor in there is funky and cool - even the bathrooms have style!  We had an early reservation (6pm) since we were heading to see Amy Schumer at 8pm at the Straz.  It was conveniently located downtown, so we were able to wine and dine at a good pace without feeling rushed.  The service was awesome, the food even better and the wine was flowing.  Is it possible for a sauce to steal the show?  We were raving about the Malt Vinegar Aioli all night!

Everything we ordered was ideal for sharing and we ended up with a well-rounded array of dishes and flavors:

Panko Crusted Goat Cheese Balls - perfect crust with a creamy center.

Tuna Tartare - loved it paired with the guacamole and wontons, plus it was not too spicy.

Fish Tacos - light, fluffy fish in a nice crust.  It was delicious paired with the crunchy, lime-infused lettuce/cabbage.

Roasted Garlic Frites - divine.  malt vinegar aioli was a HIT!  these were devoured.

Ropa Vieja Nachos - just all in all a great nacho plate.

Lamp Tenderloin - so tender and complimented perfectly with dish accompaniments.

Heard the top deck bar is pretty awesome.  Saw there was a stage inside, so maybe they have live band nights?  They were even cool with us splitting the checks 5 ways, which I know can be a pain.  Will hopefully be back real soon!

Pretty bummed about this place. We went for dinner with our 10 month old and our friends and their 2 month old. Immediately walking in we were told that they did not have high chairs. I get that this isn't chilis or some family style restaurant but I think any place that serves dinner at a decent hour (we went at 6:30), should have a high chair or two on hand just in case. It was a total inconvenice, and the food and service weren't great enough to make me want to come back, even without the baby.

I like Fly Bar.  I've only been here twice, both during happy hour time.  The sangria is great and the few menu items I have tried were really good, as well.

I really like the way that Fly Bar is decorated.  It definitely stands out from the typical Tapas restaurants that I have run across in Tampa.

I haven't been here late night, but have heard that it is a great time!  I would say that Fly is a great place for a downtown business dinner or to guzzle some sangria and munch with friends!

We stopped by Fly Bar before going to see Jerry Seinfeld at the Performing Arts Center. We had a few beers and cocktails that were very tasty. They waitress was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. She knew everything about the beers and cocktails that they offered. The bar has TVs that show sporting events. We had some appetizers as well and I really enjoyed the humus and the nachos. This is a nice upscale bar to grab a drink at.

So I went here for a friends birthday and it was the first time I had tried this place. I was pretty nice. We went in and sat at the bottom and had dinner and a drink. The bar down stairs is cool with everything that it is decorated with.
After dinner we headed upstairs for another drink. It is a little small and tight up there but it was nice to sit outside and have some drinks and look out at all the buildings and sky.
Music was pretty good not really clear, so a little hard to hear but not bad. This is a great place to meet after work for drinks and just to relax.

This is a fun, loud place with a good cocktail list.  It's a great place to go for happy hour.  It's a little loud for a romantic evening, though.

I don't know why people complained about the service.  Our server was wonderful, very prompt and attentive.  My water glass stayed full, and wet cocktail napkins were replaced.

I had the Doc Holliday, and my husband had the 15 Love.  We both loved our drinks.

We started with the nachos with guacamole.  They were good.  Then my husband had the flank steak, which was a little undercooked but otherwise tasty.  I had the curried short rib, which was great.  I usually like my curries over rice, but the curried cauliflower was great.  The green papaya salad was forgettable, though.  We finished with the strawberry cheesecake, which was fine but nothing to write home about.

This place is neat, and the prices are reasonable.  The food isn't the most innovative, but it tastes good, and it is presented well.

Extraordinary!  The food is incredible!  I had the short ribs and they were true to the bartender's recommendation, fall off the bone.  Every drink the bartenders made were done with precision and care.  If you're in downtown Tampa, eat and drink here, you won't be sorry.

The food was delicious, which is why I gave this three stars. The service, however, was less than acceptable. Our server was MIA for the majority of the night. We wanted to buy more drinks, but he was never around to order more. We finally just asked for our checks because we didn't want to wait all night to order more stuff. The prices were also high for the amount of food you get, but the food is so good that it dint phase us.

If you want to eat great, pricey food but have terrible service, this is the place to go.

This was the worst bar I have ever been too. Not only was the server/bartender rude, but he made up stuff, just to have us kicked out. We were sober, minding our own business and talking in a group.

    DO NOT GO HERE!

Man!  I hate and love this place all at the same time.

I LOVE their food but the service is always so disappointing. And this visit was no exception.

We were seated and probably waited 10 minutes before someone came by.  And when she came back with our drinks (another 5 minutes later) she gave my water to the table next to us. For real?!?!

We ordered (I still didn't have a drink at this point) and our food came out in pieces, which I'm ok with.  The humorous part was when the food runner brought out our ropa vieja and he was puzzled as to which table it belonged to.  He consulted with our server and she too was confused as to who the owner was (mind you we were only one of her two tables).....

At the end of the meal, I do have to say that the quality is always there, but the service ALWAYS falls short.

If you go, order the following:

    Ropa vieja
    Truffled Mac n cheese
    Tuna tartare
    Shrimp n grits

    Great place!

Went on a Wednesday evening.  Decor is cool and funky.  Our server was nervous because he was a bus boy filling in for someone who didn't show.  Let me tell you, he did a fantastic job!

We ordered some of their signature cocktails that he recommended.  Wow, I cant think of anything I didn't like!

Food was all very good and presentation was fantastic.  Price was in line for an upscale trendy tapas place like this.  Now if we only had one of these closer to home.

If you are in the Tampa area, run here.  If you don't, you are cheating yourself out of a great dining experience.

Prior to me visiting this restaurant, I'd heard a lot of buzz about Fly Bar, but just recently had the opportunity to visit.

The Ambiance:  This place has a cool vibe.  It's great for Happy Hour where several items on the menu are at a reduced price.  I could see celebrating birthdays on the inside or organizing a night of drinks with a group of good friends on the roof top bar as you take in a nice view of the Tampa skyline.

The Food:  Everyone said that the Mac & Cheese is a must try, so I did.  I thought it was good...really good, but not the phenomenal taste bud explosion of an experience that I thought I was supposed to have.  I'd recommend it though.  I ordered the Winter Risotto which had roasted red & golden beets, goat cheese and sage.   The Tuna Tartar was amazing, as well as the Panko Crusted Goat Cheese Balls with charred cherry pomodoro.  I'm not sure what or who pomodoro is, but I couldn't get enough of it.

The Crowd:  You can find a little bit of everyone at Fly Bar.  I will have to say that it is a big hipster/trendy crowd hangout, but yet very diverse.

The Service:  When we went to the Roof Bar after dinner, the bartenders were always prompt and attentive.  When we were inside, the server was attentive and made sure we had everything that we needed as well.  My only complaint about the service was that all of the food did not come out at once.  It all came in waves with about 3 - 5 minute gaps in between arrival.  There were four of us, so that made it kind of awkward.

The Drinks:  I ordered an Eastern European, which was made with fresh pressed cider and my favorite vodka - zu bison grass.  It was delicious.  It was rather sweeter than I like my drinks, but really good nonetheless.  Later in the evening I also ordered my go-to drink - Jack Daniels (or some other whiskey/bourbon) & Ginger Ale  - which were very nicely made.

Overall, I had a great experience.  I do think that this place can get pricey if you are ballin' on a budget.  The pricey-ness can be mitigated by visiting during Happy Hour.

    B. Major Grade:  A-

I took one sip and enjoyed my Huckleberry Cocktail.

I took a second sip and realized I drank all of the flavour in the first sip.

The third sip was nothing but seltzer water. Gross.

I had to mix my drink with my significant other's drink so his wouldn't be overpowered with ginger (the leather cocktail) and mine would actually taste like something other than carbonated water.

At least the service was fine, but $20 for 2 horribly awry drinks was $20 too much in my book.

I've been before for cocktails but tonight was my first time having dinner and I am a fan. Great selection of specialty cocktails, beer and wine. The waiter described the food menu as "for sharing but bigger than traditional tapas" which I thought was a perfect description. My friend and I shared the grilled romaine salad and the truffle mac and cheese. Everything is better with truffle oil but some places can be a little too heavy handed. Not here. Perfect amount to enhance the macaroni and cheese. Grilled hangar steak came with 3-4 slices of steak to an order and was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was served with roasted potatoes and mushrooms. My friend had the scallops (3 scallops to an order)and roasted cauliflower.

Service was smart. Server was attentive but not annoying or hanging around constantly. He could tell my friend and I wanted to catch up and gave us time to do that. Overall, I would definitely go back and would recommend to others for a night out.

I can't give this place 4 stars or 5 stars, but I'd like to.

First the good, I have never had a dish I didn't thoroughly enjoy.  You have to get the mac -n-cheese if you go. Not an option, buy it. You won't be sorry.  One of my favorite dishes from there is no longer on the menu but was great.  It's the Kobe beef sliders.  If you show up, and they are back on the menu, I highly recommend them.  Also, the shrimp and grits are really good as well.  You really don't find many places down here that serve them, but here they do them well.  All you South Carolina transplants there you go.

The bad, I have been here multiple times and the service each time warranted one star being taken off the total review.  Even when they aren't packed the service sucks.  It isn't that the wait staff is running around looking busy.  They almost act as if they couldn't be bothered.  Also, the price seems a bit much.  As great as the mac-n-cheese is it is $9, and it is still just mac-n-cheese. I think they justify the price by making sure the word truffle is in the name of the dish, and that you aren't aware that there is more than one type of truffle.  Overall the price wouldn't be too bad if the service wasn't just horrendous.  Really though, you are paying for the location.  Oh and the parking sucks.

Overall, definitely try this place out. The food is really good.  Just go in with low expectations for quality of service.

Unique funky decor; good selection of beers and best known for cocktails; happy hour specials daily; the BEST hanger steak and chimichurri I've ever had! They have a menu of "small" plates, some bigger than others, all delicious and good for a light or medium-sized dinner.

I want this place to be 5 stars. I like the location because you can walk to TBPAC or the Tampa Theater.  The building itself is well designed. Open dinning room with a nice long bar (Tip - those seats on the right when you walk in - they aren't too bad for a meal if you're in a hurry and you don't have to wait for them.) and the roof top is a great place to get away from the noise downstairs. The food is really good. Mac -n - Chees ftw! And they always have great draft beer.
What has always been frustrating about this place is the service. With all the other great qualities about this place, fixing the service should be easiest, right? Argumentative bar tenders, slow service; It's frustrating. For the amount of money you're spending, at least give me average service.
I'm going to keep going back and hope that the service changes. But not as frequently as I'd like to.

Awesome bar with cool drinks, chill atmosphere, and awesome desserts!  I have yet to try their main dinner fare!  I indulged on a warm banana bread topped with toasted marshmallows with sliced bananas on top with caramelized sugar served with a heaping scoop of peanut butter ice cream!  Are you drooling yet?

I also tried their "leather sofa" cocktail.  I didn't know it would come in a pink color, guess I was "Samantha" last night.  They also have a good beer selection and had a deal last night B1G1 for bottled beer I guess.  I had gotten two Left Hand Milk Stouts for about $5!  Great deal!

They also have cool bathrooms and a roof up top with another bar!  Really cool place!  Would definitely recommend and I'd be a bar fly at fly bar if I lived in Tampa...

Why 4 stars? Because I had some awesomeness, but it cost me.

      ---   ---   ---

I had Fly Bar on my short-list of places to hit up for quite some time, but for some reason I just wasn't able to ever get around to it. I finally made an appearance recently, and here are the highlights:

The mac-n-cheese might be the best I have ever had. Seriously... it should be illegal.

I was told that the grouper was out of this world, but I found it to be fairly average, unfortunately. I will definitely make sure to try something different next time.

The ambiance is superb. It really doesn't feel like you're in Tampa... let alone Downtown Tampa. There's such a cool vibe around here that it's shocking there isn't more going on nearby. But I guess that kind of adds to the appeal. The brick roads, brick buildings, and even the street lights give this street such a unique feel.

Unfortunately the roof was closed during our visit, but I'll definitely be sitting up there next time.

Cocktail-wise, myself or the girlfriend are not huge fans, but ours were sufficient. What we got? I have absolutely no idea. But that's the goal of a cocktail, right? To be so strong that you don't even remember drinking it?

Yep, Fly Bar cocktails... Men In Black style.

Overall, this is a good place....my major issue is with the terribly uncomfortable seating! Seriously, the tiny, metal patio chairs that they use inside do not make for a comfortable dining experience. The food is good, the band's good and the service is excellent.

Pretty interesting people watching here too! But you're gonna need to beat the rest of your party to the bench seat if you're gonna settle in and enjoy.

I'm going to have to quote my mom on this one: "This is a 10 star place!"
Fly was on a list of the best restaurants in Tampa so we made a night of it. I am so glad we did!

The thing that was really arresting about the Restaurant/ bar area was the hipster and artsy atmosphere. The paintings on the wall were vibrant and worked well in the dark wood and industrial metal work on the interior. We had the choice to sit inside or outside but liked the decor inside more! (Definitely check out the bathrooms, the design is awesome!)

I had to laugh at the review that described the waiter's outfit as half Diesel and half salvation army. I was a little scared of possible pompous waitstaff but our waiter was very personable and prompt. He did a great job describing the place's style and recommending dishes to order. In short, there are not pronouncedcourses but rather the food comes out tapas style when it is ready. We loved this- sharing most of the dishes as they came out so we didn't have to pick just one thing to indulge in!

We arrived at Happy Hour so started with some drinks and their frites. I ordered their sangria with brandy and it was good. It tasted like German Gluwine- a spiced wine, winter flavor. It was iced though. I probably wouldn't order it again but would order my mom's house Cabernet! The frites were crispy and had potato skins still on them, which is a favorite characteristic of fries for my Mamma and I! The dipping sauces were delightful- a spicy ketchup and a more mustard like sauce.

We also ordered the bib lettuce and lentil salad, a new item on their menu. although I wouldn't have ordered it, I loved it! Local arugala and lettuce with the perfect amount of greens and small lentils with sun dried tomato pieces. Dad and Mom really liked the hanger steak- this was a pretty large portion for the price! We then had the Mac and cheese with truffle oil- AMAZING! Though this was not the healthiest choice, it was divine.... A must-try! We finished with the d grouper, which was caught from FL waters. I wasn't sure how the grouper would be but OH EM GEE.... I am running out of adjectives to describe these dishes! It had a mildly spicy sauce and was served with bok choy and seasonal mushrooms. My favorite dish for sure :).

Our experience here was great- atmosphere, food, drinks and company. The prices were reasonable and my mom and dad will be back for sure!

Decided to give Fly Bar a second chance. We arrived Saturday night a little before 8pm and managed to grab a table inside before the restaurant got packed.

The atmosphere at Fly is great; gorgeous people everywhere, trendy art on the walls, and an amazing bar area. Even the bathrooms were über cool with their industrial metal and stained glass like doors.  Fly gets major points for keeping their restaurant clean.  The bar area was always free of clutter and the bathroom was super clean.

The portions are tapas sized at Fly so you can sample several dishes without pigging out.  The Grilled Hanger Steak with Potatoes and Mushrooms was amazingly good!  Our cocktails were so good! I got the Pimms Fizz, my sister got the 1202, and my husband got the Well Rested cocktail.

Despite the restaurant being very busy, our server, Rafael, was very attentive. Rafael brought our food and drinks out promptly and checked on our table frequently throughout our stay.

If you enjoy wine every Monday night Fly offers 1/2 price bottles of wine!

Tonight we were somewhat disappointed with our regular fare starting with the Mac n cheese and the fries that were either reheated and dry, or overcooked. The Panko Goat Cheese still flavorful with the right crunch to complement the creamy cheese center. The seasonal scallops with  curry infused cream and crunchy cauliflower did not wow my palette, as I was longing for the simple seared scallops.

But the shrimp and grits, plus the pork tenderloin with roasted artichoke and fennill puree rang the high notes of the night. Plus then we had to get some bread to finish the plates!

Flourless Chocolate cake and coffee ice cream with whip cream and lady fingers topped off our meal was a hit.

This is the first Monday that we ate there and enjoyed the 1/2 off wine. We will have to remember that and will be back.

FlyBar is possibly the most trendy hipster restaurant I've ever been to. Considering how close the tables are positioned to one another, you might overhear deep pontifications over Pinotage or Nietzsche. Your server will be able to tell you the best place in town to get a tattoo, and will be wearing a uniform of a precisely divided ratio between thrift store rags and overpriced diesel jeans.

Postmodern atmosphere aside, the food speaks for itself. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and my favourites linger on the Kobe Sliders, Panko Crusted Goat Cheese, and Hanger Steak. Everything I've tasted is delicious, and you will not be disappointed. Portions are small, so plan to order several and share. This place really does lend itself to community.

I will say that I'm saddened by the unavailability of S&P, Mustard and Plain Ketchup. I understand the loyalty to perfectly seasoned dishes with well designed flavour profiles, but come on people.

The happy hour features discounted drinks and half priced bar menu. Monday night is wine night and lots of fun. Be sure to head upstairs to the rooftop deck for excellent cocktails, an unrivaled view of the city, and [un]pretentious revelations galore.

Here I was thinking that there isn't much downtown... but then I discovered Fly Bar. "Trendy" and "Unique" are two words that immediately come to mind when I think of this place. The Happy Hour is awesome. All the drinks and everything on the Lounge Menu is half-off. I highly suggest you try one of the Signature cocktails, all of which are made in-house so you won't find these drinks anywhere else in Tampa.

I wouldn't be doing this place justice if I didn't give a shout to the food that was prepared perfectly. We ordered the Panko Crusted Goat Cheese (suggested by our server) and the Ropa Vieja. Both of them were absolutely delicious and helped convince me that this is one of the best Happy Hour places in Tampa.

I'm looking forward to my next visit so I can try the rest of their menu and some of their other Signature concoctions.

I am a huge fan of mixology after a couple trips out of the city, so when I arrived at Fly Bar, I was really excited about their specialty drinks menu. My first time there was a Tuesday. You know, Paris Hilton once said that only losers/desperate ppl/guidos go out on Saturday nights. She isn't my favorite person to quote but this actually made my first experience much better. There were only a couple tables busy outside, a musician playing to an empty inside, and the roof deck open for just me and my boyfriend to enjoy the city scene. This is the only bar I have seen in Tampa with a roof-top bar.

Our first drinks were off the menu which weren't half bad. For an appetizer we had the home-made hummus, recommended by the bartender which was out of this world. I shoveled it down as if I had not eaten for days, forgetting all about my lady like manners.  We ordered the Kobe Beef Sliders which were amazing compared to most other places that give you more bread, no meat.

Since it was slow, we asked the bartender to make something with our favorite liquors (me:bourbon, him:rye). The bartender gave us a drinks that he had crafted himself. I felt super special.

I went there yesterday (Friday) and the experience was completely different. The bar was packed, even the upstairs had no open seats. Bar was harder to get to, bartenders were scarce, but helped us out as best as they could. I recommend going on an off night to really experience the place. There is no point to go there just for a vodka tonic.  Since the area has little to offer, most urban residents flock there on Friday nights.

We are in town for just a couple of nights and I found Fly Bar through Open Table. It was awesome! We went with our teen sons (who do have pretty developed palates) and everyone loved it. We ordered a bunch of stuff and it came out "at will" (as the waiter explained to us when we sat down). It ended up being perfectly timed and everything was delicious.

Our faves were the scallop ceviche, the shrimp and grits, the crab cakes and the filet. While everything was so tasty, our least fave was the truffled mac and cheese--it comes off more as a truffled macaroni salad because it's really not very cheesy, but it was still quite good.

It's in a kind of sketchy area of Tampa (as far as we can tell) and the kids were laughing at how hipster it is, but none of us could argue that it was one of the best dining experiences we've had. We really enjoyed sharing everything. A quick trip after to the the rooftop bar was less than amazing, but still--what an awesome place!

I was looking for some place interesting near down town tampa last week and the yelp ratting seemed to foot the bill regarding Fly.  I even made a reservation with the open table through yelp while driving through ST. Pete to get there.  So that was all slick and cool and a total savior as they were turning people away with 40 minutes wait when I showed up.

The place was packed at 6:30 on a Thursday, so that is good for business.  But there were a few wacky things that ended up bugging me about my time at Fly.  Got our table, and didn't see anyone for a good 10 minutes, before the waiter came over to get our drinks.  Although there seemed to be plenty of staff running around it just hard to flag one down and get someone to come take our order.  The staff was just running around with out their heads cut off that is all.  We ordered drinks and some food at the same time as we were already getting the feeling you better get something in or you'll never get any food in this joint.

The beer was good and had a great micro brew selection.  It is certainly a great people watching point.

But I noticed something pretty quick as I sat back and watched out one dish at a time seemed to be dribbing and drabbing out of the kitchen.  We ordered three things and they all showed up about 15 minutes in between each thing. This seemed to be the norm when we were there.   I know it isn't fine dinning but this is a bit odd.  And not really tapas style if they are going for that.

We got the shrimp and grits (based on a yelp review), the May-D salad (based on the bacon and fried shallots), and fish tacos (based on still looking for good fish tacos in this state).  The grits were very creamy and yummy.  The sauce was flavorful but not spicy.  But on the menu it is stated as "spicy" as did some yelp reviewers.  I keep forgetting Florida Spicy is old person spicy even when you are in a hib place full of 20-30 year olds.  So shrimp and gritts, good but I've had better.  Way better.  The salad was interesting and good.  The fish tacos were supposed to have "spicy" tomatilla salsa on them.  No way it was spicy, the cabbage slaw that was on them was good but out of balance with the amount of fish and FLOUR tortillas.  Anyone who has been to Baja knows, fish tacos have got to be in Corn tortillas.  What is up with 75% of the fish tacos in Florida being in flour?

So, good not great, but they are running their staff to death running one dish at a time.  It was like the running man in there.  Gordon Ramsey would kick their ass and have about 30 F-words per minute dealing with the service issues.
