Love this place. Not your average bar. The  bar itself is beautiful, the bartenders are knowledgeable, the decor is fun. They offer games, darts, skee-ball, spider stomp, and some arcade games. The bartenders have a list of specials which are usually perfect for each season. There are several different rooms with different seating and noise levels to satisfy your different moods. Sometimes there are live bands as well. The women's bathroom is decorated with old women's magazine ads giving it a 50's feel, apparently the men's bathroom is decorated with 70's porn. Pretty awesome and unique place. It's kind of hard to find if you've never been taken there by someone else. The Diagon Alley of bars.
Review Source:Footsy Magoo's is one of the more interesting places I've hung out at night. Â Certainly a unique place, which made me wonder what type of establishment existed there back in the day. Â Since it is a bar, they have a full bar, which an average selection. Â What sets this place apart though, is the skeeball. Â I can't think of another bar that has skeeball, and it can certainly be an entertaining night out with friends if you are able to get a skeeball game or two in.
Review Source:My favorite bar. Great atmosphere and decor. I always look forward to a trip to the bathroom for the inspirational message on the chalkboard. Strong drinks, lots to do, and the owner is delightfully friendly and in-tune with his customers. My friends and I were regulars here, despite the 40minutes it took me to get there from my last apartment. I definitely recommend it. Just steer clear of the bartenders, they are the reason I docked a star. They can be abrasive and ruin a good evening, so grab your drink and back away from the bar before their bad mood sucks you in.
Review Source:I'm not in Troy often, maybe enough times to count on one hand every year. I'd say that I've been to Footy's every single time I'm around. Thanks to my firneds for pointing me to a great place! The even had free cookies and other desserts when I was up around the holidays! Always happy to be there! Great drinks, great layout, great people!
Review Source:Great place to grab a drink with friends. Funky decor, lots of space. Decent beer selection, decent liquor selection.
I'm not sure if people on here understand that on a Friday or Saturday night bartenders are busy, but I have never had any problems getting a drink and the bartenders are very helpful / friendly.
An added bonus for me is being able to get a little snack from a food window. The guy makes a mean sandwich and it can be a lifesaver for the night / next morning.
Games to play, darts to throw, or just find a spot to chat with friends. Some solid tunes last time we stopped in. A fine watering hole and a favorite in Troy.
A fun place for a night out in Troy. I met up with friends, grabbed a beer on tap, and schooled them in a game of darts.
After hovering outside of the room with skeeball we finally snagged it for a few rounds. My first time playing... it's harder than it looks!
Beer selection is mediocre but they do have several drink specials (note: they pour strong!) that are worth checking out.
The decor is unique, to say the least. Take a closer look at that tufted seatback and you'll notice the army men tucked away in each tuft. Be sure to look skyward in the dart room for the nostalgic boardgame covers, too.
This is a very cool place in downtown Troy. I love the decor and I love the fact that there are no outward signs that the place even exists. Honestly, I've probably driven by this place thousands of times and didn't even notice it. The drink prices and selection are average. Not bad by any means; but nothing special at the same time. I went with friends and had a great time.
So why isn't my review higher ? The bartenders. They didn't even acknowledge my presence. Then when they finally did give me some service it was very curt and borderline rude. I'm not at all surprised to see other yelpers making comments about the less than pleasant attitudes of the bartenders....
Housed in a grand, crown molded early 19 Century structure, Footsy Magoo's is one of the strangest, coolest, most interesting bars around. Â With a very cool, eclectic crowd, competent and amicable bartenders, good tunes on the jukebox, and a killer outdoor patio, Footsy Magoo's is sure to make a memorable, if not very late, night out in Troy.
And then there are the awesome eccentricities:
- Frogger on the Arcade
- $6 Grape Mojitos
- Skeeball
- Nudie pics in the bathroom
- Late kitchen serving build your own sandwiches
- Foosball
Yeah, it's pretty foolish that I don't come here more often.
In town on a weekend with a lot of RPI alumni. Â The Ruck was very crowded, so my friends came here. Â Good choice. Â Large place, I can't ever see it getting crowded. Â Like many other Troy bars, causal, which is a plus. Â Â
Mixed drinks are good. Â I ordered a Jack and Coke for $6, which came in a 6-8 oz glass. Â At first I thought I was overpaying (compared to the Ruck which would give you a 16 oz glass for that price.) Â Then I tasted the drink, and understood the price completely.
Only two complaints are that 1) Last Call is at 2 AM, and 2) Not a very good draft beer selection ,although a good bottled beer selection. Â The best draft beer I remember was Blue Moon.
Walked in here during the Troy Victorian Stroll with my fiance and we were immediately charmed with the layout and charm of the place. We were not really ready for drink (Jayne had to work night shift) but we hung out for a while and enjoyed the atmospher. The game rooms are really cool and it seems like something new around every corner when you walk around the place. I will wait and see about the rude bartenders everyone is talking about. This is totally unacceptable in a place that relies on drink sales to survive. Â Can't wait to go back
Review Source:This place is awesome. There's skee ball, foosball and a pinball machine that were a lot of fun and its a lot bigger inside than you would expect. They always have interesting drink specials and the prices are about average. The decor and layout are quirky enough to make it stand out from other bars in the area; it's the place I take friends from out of town when they ask what good bars are in Troy.
As other people have said, however, the bartenders can be rather rude sometimes but it's nothing that would keep me from going back. Otherwise it's a great place to chill out with friends.
It's really the bartender that I dislike. There is a short blonde that works there, awful service. Takes a while to even notice us. Then takes her time coming over. Then makes me a "mixed drink" with less than half a shot of liquor in it... If you get her, stick to beer so she can't mess it up.
Side note: the girl on Monday nights is good.
The decor is pretty cool and over all, it's a fun place to hang out. I just hate bad service.
I'm going to give it a 5 but say it s more of a 4.5 (I'm feeling generous and the bar tender did put the Yankees game on for us).
The decor is of the variety of two wrongs make a right. Its dark and has all sorts of weird signage which makes it seem like its going for a dive feel, but then it has these cute little light fixtures and adorable CLEAN bathrooms with vintage magazine ad wall paper and a chalk board with an inspirational message, which say I'm a friendly neighborhood bar. But then they have 25 cent skee ball and I think I saw a Foosball table in one of the back rooms, which made me think is this "Dave & Busters". ( the place has a large L shaped main room with a raised platform and then 3 or 4 little rooms off the bottom part of the "L" for games like Ms. Pacman, Skeeball, and darts. I now know what to do on weekends when I'm bored: get a roll of quarters and work on mastering skee ball.
My friend and I were actually drinking wine at FM's (we started with dinner around the corner and decided not to risk mixing). The wine was $5 a glass, and not too shabby.
The crowd was a little younger (than me). Mostly in their mid-twenties, so I felt a little old. It was a mix of RPI dorks, Sage girls, and a few dudes wearing MMA shirts. Nothing hostile or uninviting and even thought I felt like an old lady, I'll be back.
4 and half is my actual rating.
The beer selection is rather pitiful compared to other bars in walking distance (ex: holmes and watsons, the ruck and of course browns) BUT that just means I usually get liquor here.
The prices are good. Â $8 for a double Jameson and ginger. Â The drinks are also STRONG. If you get one, don't drive home anytime soon. I'm not a great liquor holder to begin with but I have been with stonger drinkers than I and they agree.
The bartenders aren't overly friendly but I haven't had any bad experiences.
The decor is quite charming as stated before. The bathrooms are quite adorable. Â They also have some fun options to play. Â SKEEBALL? come on! Â AWESOME. Â Along with darts, foos ball and pac man and some other games. Â Most of them are in separate areas which bodes well with my anti-social tendencies.
They also have a small back area that's wonderful in the warmer months for a cigarette and lovely conversation.
I do agree with the other reviewers that I'd rather you not come here and spoil the fun but I'd really rather this place stick around. =]
This place is amazing. I mean once you can get over the fact the decor is incredible (both mens and womens bathrooms are breathtakingly gorgeous..don't ask how I know about both). If you get stop looking around, and playing skee ball long enough to get a drink, the drinks are great too. Well stocked, GREAT prices, and maybe its just the time I went because it was slow we got quick service. I can't say good cause I've definitely met friendly bartenders, he wasn't rude he was just a boring bartender. Â I love that its dark lit, hidden, with no sign. Awesome bar.
Review Source:Fantastic atmosphere, reasonable prices, and terrible service. I felt like the bartender was actively angry to have us, the paying customers, there, and would do anything to make sure we left. We left alright, a 1 dollar tip on a 10 dollar bill. This bar is exactly what Troy needs, except for the shitty service.
Awesome bar, will not return until they fire the bitchy bartenders, and I spend alot at bars.
Love the decor inside. Lots of kitch, lots of low, warm lighting.
The story goes that it's named after its owners - a podiatrist and optometrist. Footsy. Magoo. Heh.
So the bar inside is pretty well stocked, and the bartenders have always been very professional when I've been. They have drink specials, but most of all the customer service has been top notch. I wanted a beer that wasn't chilled yet, so the bartender bought me another drink until it was ready.
Food-wise, they have some sandwiches and chips. They don't have a deep fryer or oven. I think it's one of those building rules - they're don't have a microwave either, and only have a top-down heating surface, kind of like a low-power salamander. Still, what they do make is made well.
I went with one of my celiac friends. After explaining that he couldn't eat gluten, the bartender went through the menu with him and helped come up with something he could eat. But it was slow and there was time for it, so I don't know how feasible that is when it's busy. Also, you normally order at the kitchen window. Not with the bartender. It was confusing at first, but whatever works, right?
Either way, a nice place to relax with friends. Or lose your husband for half an hour while he plays skee ball because it's only $0.25 a game (9 balls).
Frosty Magoo's is easily the worst name ever for a bar, but this is one of the best and most eccentric nightspots in the area. Good luck finding this place, though. They have no web presence, there's no identifying signage other than a chalkboard panel at the door, they're on a street that Google's street view doesn't cover, and I'm not even sure if they advertise. Just wander around River Street near First and ask around.
FM's in a former bank. There's a small plaque on the building stating it was built in 1811. The high-ceilinged interior of the main bar is decorated with junk salvaged from the alley behind the building. Overall, the design feel is "That looks good enough, fuck it, I'm done." Â The walk-in safe is carpeted with astroturf, and people seem to use the room as a putting green. There's an alcove for darts, a back patio full of people making out, some dead space with mismatched tables, and a small stage adjoining a kitchen. The waitresses have to carry their orders though the bands as they perform.
Clientele is a stew of Trojans. Everyone's drunk, and everyone is having fun.
