This place is awesome. They have 36 beers on draft and roughly 100+ bottles!! Great place for bar food and pool. Newly remodeled and even more tvs than before! Hawks fans are crazy here.its great atmosphere. Staff is pretty great and management is fantastic! Menu is the best. Would totally recommend the Capri panini. Delicious! Fries are sprinkled with Parmesan and parsley!!! Â Tuesday are $2 drafts. Snake bite for $2!! Awesome.
Review Source:Went there a few weeks after their reopening on a March Madness afternoon. It was bad.
Wait staff looked like they had just started serving that morning. Star struck begins to cover it.
The food - well. Nachos had chunks of salt under the chips. But the minimal cheese and beans did not really have much to offer. I heard rumors there was meat on the nachos but did not find any.
So we ordered burgers. His medium with bacon, mine Med Rare with cheese. Temperatures were reversed (and still a little overdone). Server asked how it was, we let her know and she had this puzzled look like 'I wonder if I should do something about this, can you help me?'. Manager understood nacho issue, but never stopped by to find out about burgers that tasted poor. Fries were small, and flavorless as well.
Then people started to come in for the bigger games of the evening.
Recently this location was renovated, it went from Good to Great due to this!
Now there's better seating for larger groups and the menu seems to also be better. Â Perhaps I just never saw these but drunken chicken tenders are my new "I had 2 beers and would like some food" food! Â
They kept their 2$ specials on Tuesday which is a extremely good deal. Â There's about 15 craft beers that you can choose from. Â Some of these beers would be $2 for a 5 oz. sample pour at some of the "beer bars" in the city or burbs. Â
It seems like they may have upgraded the management/staff as they're a bit more attentive to the customers. Â Hope this does not fade as this place is doing great, hopefully the community continues showing support!
Cliffs:
$2 craft beer tuesday
drunken tenders
good seating for big groups
prompt service
I am incredibly impressed with what management has done with this place. Here are a couple things that I noticed have changed since my last visit:
- The seating had been updated and not only looks better but is also a better arrangement to actually watch the games.
- There are more TVs! It seems that they have taken the time to invest in more TVs to allow for more flexibility in the seating arrangements.
- It seems that the waitstaff is suddenly nicer... Can't say why but everyone is much friendlier and will make sure their customers are happy.
- PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING --- THEY HAVE AN UPDATED MENU! The food is actually fresh and tastes like so. They've added a bunch of new items as well as kept the old ones that were good. The end result, a bunch of bad ass options to choose from.
I'm happy that management at this location is receptive and have implemented many changes that I believe will catapult this Fox and Hound to one of the very best. You can find me here at least once every couple weeks now. WELL DONE!
The old green sign of Fox and Hound never gave me the memories of a great place to watch the game with friends. The service was bad, the food was way too salty, and there were too many seats that didn't have a good view of the TV. It was probably  2-star rating at best. A lot has changed in the last month.
Now when you walk in, the first room is filled with high top tables that each have great views of multiple TVs. Although the long tables fosters a communal dining environment I am not very fond of, cheering for the same teams with drunk strangers isn't a bad experience.
The food has gotten wonderfully better. A pared down menu has a lot of similar menu options (like a buffalo chicken sandwich, boneless wings and chicken tenders which are all probably the same chicken) but these menu options are all very tasty and don't break the bank. The drink selection is still pretty solid and they have good deals on most weeknights.
But the best improvement for me has been the service. Aside from one trip I recently had, their new servers are attentive, quick, and helpful. Plus, they are much better looking than the previous servers which never hurts.
Personal Recommendation: Fish and Chips
The food here is average, and the service here is average. There are some redeeming qualities though. They have tons of TVs to watch your favorite sporting events, there are pool tables and dart boards. They also have a pretty good beer selection. It isn't anything great, but it is a decent bar to catch a game or throw some darts in the 'burbs.
Review Source:Not exactly what you would expect of a sports bar since it is part of a strip mall but after their remodeling, they are now a pleasant surprise. Â
They have a HUGE seating area which consists of 3 different rooms. Â Whenever you come there, you will not have any issues with being seated. Â The wait staff is attentive but not too attentive where they are annoying. Â The food selection is the typical bar food selection BUT the food is above average. Â When they say they have signature dishes, they mean it. Â The signature dishes are definitely worth ordering as they are very delicious.
Another great thing about this place is the amount of TVs they have. Â They are everywhere!
They recently remodeled the place. I'm guessing it's under new management? They have long, high tables and tv's everywhere. If you are wanting to go watch a game with some friends, this is a good spot. Food is pretty decent. Regular sports bar menu with plenty of drinks. I'm a fan of their pretzels w/beer cheese and the fish and chips. Service definitely got better from before.
Review Source:I love this place for watching sports! There are dozens of televisions to watch all the different games that are playing and they have free Wi-Fi if you want to bring your laptop to check your fantasy stats or make bets. They have a decent food menu and plenty of bar activities like pool, darts, and golden tee to play.
This place is also nice if you just want to come in and lounge for a pre or post dinner drink. They host private parties, which is nice if you want to have a party there, but if not it sucks when someone else has a private party because they will lock down some of the good TV rooms.
The place is loud - bar tenders don't know how to make cocktails off menu cocktails. I wouldn't recommend. It took 3 people to figure out how to make my Mai Tai..... and it still tasted like cool-aid. If you go here I recommend you order beer or wine. Sometimes they have $2 beer special - their house white wine /Chardonnay is pretty good.
Review Source:I've been hear a few times and most of the other F & H's in the Chicagoland area too. Â I try to make it Tuesdays for the $2 drafts.
They do have 38 beers on tap, but my "go to" beer is a Black and Blue. You can't beat a $2 Black and Blue.
The food has never been stellar. But this last time, I have to say that it slightly surpassed my usual expectations for the Fox's typical bar food. I tried the quesadilla appetizer and the Napa valley spinach salad. Trying to eat healthier. Trying...anyways. They were both great!
You know what? Fox and Hound isn't so bad.
I avoided this place like the plague for a long time since I've heard its like a Buffalo Grove High School reunion all the time. I'm not a big reunion person, especially when I'm trying to enjoy a meal.
I've been here two or three times and have never run into anyone from high school, but then again I've never been here late at night, so who knows?
I'm a fish and chip freak. Any time I see it on a menu, I want it. Fox and Hound does a solid 3 star fish and chips. Not the best I've had, but definitely not the worst. They do have pretty good buffalo wings though, just not enough celery or bleu cheese for my liking.
Service is just okay. This is one of those places that it seems like they care more about hot bodies than good service. Oh well. At least the waitresses are covered up and not in bikini tops like at some other places that I'll never go to.
The rating is exactly how I feel about the place, A-OK. Â I have been here on multiple occasions. Â I particularly enjoy coming here when they play the pay-per-view boxing matches. Â For big fights they charge a $10 fee to watch the fight. Â I would rather pay $10 to watch the fight & have the option to order food than to sit at home & pay $75 to watch it in HD & eat out of the refrigerator. Â
The food here is nothing special but is good for bar food. Â I enjoy their buffalo wings & potatoe skins. Â The service here has been good for the most part. Â I had a rude waitress once but I didn't make a big deal out of it because it was very busy & I could tell she had a lot to deal with. Â
Overall the place was good not great but not bad. Â I would come here again to watch a boxing Pay-Per-View.
I had a groupon that was expiring so I decided to check it out with some friends. We went on a Friday night, but it wasn't too busy. It's your typical suburban sports bar -- bunch of TVs showing the current sporting events, pool tables, darts, a punching-bag game, all in the back of the bar.
We ordered some appetizers, that took about 25 minutes to arrive. The Texas Summer Drink was pretty good -- it was bluemoon, vodka, and some lemon squeeze -- it was awesome. Again, even though the place wasn't that crowded -- there was one table of 15 that was conducting their fantasy football draft -- the service was very slow. When we got our main entrees that had fries on the side, we didn't get any mustard or ketchup, or silverware. We had to wait another 5 minutes or so before we got that. 5minutes might not sound like a long time, but if you're hungry and your food is there in front of your nose, and you have to wait, it seems like an eternity.
BATHROOM REVIEW
The bathroom was stellar! If i was a drunk dude stumbling inside to find a bathroom to alleviate my bladder only, and didn't take into account for the crappy service, this place would receive 5-stars just from the bathroom. The bathroom was very roomy -- it had at least 7 urinals and 10 stalls. it was super clean and what was even more awesome was right next to the paper towel dispenser, there were a stack of little dixie cups and a dispenser of mouth wash. talk about awesomeness. no women like beer breath, especially those who are there looking for a good night, so i thought that was pretty cool. the stalls were pretty clean as well and very roomy. SIT OR SQUAT? I'd sit, swish some mouthwash, and flush enthusiastically.
Surprise! Â This meet-market has learned how to make decent food! Â Still no significant "Smokehouse" BBQ items, but on a recent visit the items we did have were better than OK. Â The "Hot Fox" buffalo chicken was a real winner - thick, spicy and, well, hot. Â The Black Forest was also first rate. Â This is still a pickup bar, but they treat couples well also, even if we were there to eat and not hook up.
Review Source:This place has a very homely feel... which I am a huge fan of..
Tons of TVs for sports.. pool, air hockey (how many bars have air hockey), darts, ping pong (how many bars have ping pong)..
Food is good, sometimes it is great, but overall it is pretty solid!
Drinks are not expensive, and there is a good amount of selection!
This place would get 5 stars if it had better service, but nobody is perfect.
My husband and I just move to the area a few months ago and decided to try out this Fox & Hound since it's near our new house. Â Last night was our second visit and was REALLY disappointing. Â The long island iced tea was a special last night, and tasted off I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't great. Â The food is mediocre, I've had better "pub grub" at smaller bars. Â After the LIT I decided to try their skinny margarita....I'm not sure what they did to it but it was AWFUL! Â It was supposed to be a citrus margarita, but I didn't taste anything citrus in it. Â It was actually kinda sweet..I sent it back and they did take it off the tab. Â I decided to try the golden margarita instead...and it was OK
I suppose if you're looking for a good place to watch the game and have a few beers, this would be ok...but not for much else.
Oh and it's always REALLY cold in there!
Meh, a place to go chill in the middle of the week when there is nowhere else to go in the suburbs.
There are usually some kind of drink specials, which is nice, but its a bar so that's expected. I like my girly drinks, but I honestly do not like any of their drinks.. I've tried to like them but they taste so icky and filled with artificial flavoring.
Food isn't awful. They give you 2 sides for the main dishes, which is kinda cool. I like that rice side that they give you. The wraps actually have pretty good flavor to them, not the best wraps, but they are fine.
Last night I have the cobb salad, which is my favorite salad anywhere I go but I felt like it was lacking ingredients... so it said I had egg in there but I wouldn't that what I had in the salad was egg, I'd say I had 2 shreds of something white. It said I'd have cucumber in there, but I think i had 3 tiny cubes in my salad. The chicken was pretty dry, and over done in the sides. The ranch dressing was lacking that ranch mooshy flavor that I like, it was bland and watery.
There are pool tables, tvs, foosball table and a basketball hoop game. I guess there is enough entertainment for someone who is bored on a week night, but I really try my hardest not to end up here during the weekends...
Servers are usually okay, but service in general is generally pretty darn slow even when there are barely any people there.
While I have eaten here a couple of times, I come here for the drinks and definitely not the food. Â The food here is kind of tasteless and bland. Â The service is not very good. Â It used to be better, but it seems like the staff has changed completely. Â I still come here every once in a while to meet friends for a drink since it is a central location and never too crowded to find a seat. Â Well drinks will run you about $6.
The last time I came here because my friend wanted me to meet here for a Blue Moon beer tasting. Â Blue Moon was bringing three new types of beer for the all star club member to try out. Â We got to vote on our favorites and the winner would be released to the public. Â This was pretty cool and the Blue Moon guys kept our glasses full. Â The only downfall was more people showed up than expected and the room was packed.
Also, the parking lot kind of stinks... so expect to park kind of far on a crowded night!
They have a big selection of really *really* overpriced beers. Â There is a big list of beers on tap, but they don't move fast enough to stay fresh. Â Stick to the bottles or the most popular tap ones or you'll end up with expensive stale beer. Â Don't be afraid to send it back.
Key to this place is the cheap pints on Tuesdays. Â Otherwise these guys are completely average.
Fox & Hound is nice in that it is predictable. I know what to expect when I come here. I know the food is OK, but nothing particularly astounding. However, it comes out hot and fresh, served by friendly waitresses. It's a chain, so I have a couple options of where to go when I want some beer, some bar food and to shoot some pool. That's really the main reason I come.
My friend and I wanted to use some of the Groupons I've been accumulation. I had snatched up one for Fox & Hound because, while they aren't exactly expensive, every extra dollar I can stretch is welcomed. There wasn't a limit to the amount of money I had to spend to redeem it and it could be used toward food and drink.
We ended up shooting pool for a couple of hours, fighting our hangovers with battered chicken tender and attempted to indulge with their mediocre, sorry excuse for a cheesecake. I'm just glad they kept the drink glasses replenished. We didn't get any alcohol, so I wasn't able to rack up any All Star Club points, but our waitress informed me that they'll soon be switching over to a points system that counts dollars and not drinks.
I've been there for pay-per view events. Â The picture they provide on the tv's is STANDARD DEF and stretched out to fill the screen. Also the tv's are adjusted to an unbearable color level (bright red skinned people).
The sound is set for karaoke so you can't hear the announcers talking. People complain about it and they turn the sound up a little, but it doesn't help.
I have ordered different burgers and they were always underdone and extremely salty with no other flavor.
We like Fox and Hound. Â Their Black Forest sandwich is one of the best sandwiches around and that gets them to 4 stars. Â TV's are everywhere although some could be bigger, but I believe that is the curse sports bars open for more than 10 years. Â The total upgrade can be expensive I'm sure, but they do have a nice amount of big screens with 3 or 4 giant projections. Â
The wings we thought have been overcooked at times. Â The fish and chips is excellent as a previous reviewer has stated. Â
If your expectations are in check you won't be disappointed.
The food is good and there's something on the menu for everyone. The place has a bunch of TV's so it's always a good place to catch a game. They have decent pool tables and good drink specials throughout the week. Tuesday nights all draft pints $2. Most of the staff is friendly but have had some slow service.
Review Source:I was here last Wednesday to see my buddies play in their pool league. They have decent pool tables. I stopped coming here for food a while ago, about the only thing i consistently enjoy are the fish and chips but everything else is just okay to meh. Service ranges from moderately attentive to invisible. Lots of TVs, this was a good place to catch a game with friends a few years ago but it really hasn't gotten any better. The beer selection is okay but for a beer pub, they don't really focus on their beers. It's all just very boring to me. I ended up going to Portillo's in the same parking lot to get better grub.
Review Source:Drinks are OK - decent variety of beers and usually at an OK price.
Menu is actually quite large for a place that is really a bar. I've had a few different items here and have usually enjoyed the food.
Staff is usually friendly, though sometimes they'll ignore occasional customers for regulars - nothing wrong with that as long as the glass has something in it. Overall, service is a bit inconsistent - which is the main reason for the 3 star rating.
Maybe it was just a bad night, but the place was pretty empty throughout the entire time while we were there. It wouldn't be that strange but it was all through a Friday night... yeah.
Anyway, it's definitely a nice place inside. There's the bar, of course, as well as tables in the main area and in the two adjacent game rooms. Some of the games include video arcades, pool, table tennis, and darts. Playing darts was the only free activity so be ready to pay ~$9.00/hr for billiard and ping-pong equipment. You swap your ID as a form of insurance for using their stuff. TVs are everywhere and the music that's playing inside actually has the music video that goes along with it. I think that's a sweet little thing that's nice to have.
There are decent drink specials and the food is acceptable. It's nothing special but definitely isn't bad. This could be a really fun place to spend a lot of time in but I'm still surprised how dead it was during my last experience...
i went here last night for the ufc fight. it was $5 to get into the closed off section to see the fights. the room which is used for the pool tables. by the time we got there, it was pretty much standing room only, and it got kinda stuffy in there. there were tvs everywhere, so it's not like there's a bad spot in the room. they also had a projector. so, i went back and forth from that room to the main room with the bar.
eventually i took a spot right at the bar in the main room. there were a good selection of beer on tap which was awesome. i saw a few microbrews too. Â i usually like going the drink special/cheap route; in this case, bud light was my poison. the servers were pretty, and pretty nice too. i ordered some chicken fingers w/fries too. it was your standard fare bar food. i didn't eat anything since about lunchtime, so it left me satisfied.
i made my way back to the room with the fights, to catch the main events. luckily i found a spot which my friends reserved for me, so the night wasn't a total loss.
it was aok. i've been here a couple times in the past, but i'm not a fan yet. maybe if i enjoyed the fights a little more, and if it was a little more organized i might be a fan.
OK bar in the area. Â Decent choices of draft beer, friendly staff, quite lively on the weekends so yes you can chill out here. Â The food is OK but not that great, fish and chips that other reviewers are raving about is actually quite greasy. On the plus side, the menu is extensive enough that you'll find something to your liking without any doubt.
On the minus side, some of the tvs could really use some updating and a few bigger screens would be welcome.
I love fox and hound, use to come here all the time when I worked in the area. Never had a bad meal, they played decent music, even though it was often repeated. Good place to watch the big game or hang out with friends and shot some pool. The wait staff is great, they usually remember who you are and there is a great vibe in there. Never had a dull moment
Review Source:Definitely the best fish and chips for miles and miles. On my visit, the chips could have been a bit more crisp, but altogether this is a hell of a meal.
They have some nice drink specials; some nicer than others. The beer selection is good, and the menu has a lot of good choices from burgers, etc. to baked ziti, pizza, and some unique entrees.
Service was excellent on the night I was there; only issue was my beers, on special, were priced more than what I'd been told, and the guy took care of it without hesitation and apologized.
This location isn't quite as nice as the location I used to frequent in Baton Rouge... it seems a little dated... but it's a nice comfortable spot and an excellent choice for watching sports. After all, I was able to watch both the Bulls and Blackhawks lose in playoff action! : (
It's a bar.  A big bar. The sell cigars, have pool tables, giant TV sets, all the right beers on tap. But....something about it. Feels kind of formal in there to me probably because I have only ever been in there with people from work. It's literally "just around the corner" from a  large telecom company so that really sets the tone.
They have pretty good food and plenty of room for large groups.
