I was a little surprised at the number of low reviews for this restaurant. We had dinner there a few months ago and I am remiss in writing a review.
It was a Friday night, and the place was busy but not packed. We wanted to sit outside and they gave us a choice of a couple of tables. We picked one and it didn't have a heater next to it, so when the sun started to go down they brought over a heater to us without us even asking!
I had mussels and fries, which were excellent. My H had a steak which he enjoyed as well. It was a nice mix of families and couples and friends all hanging out. We felt very comfortable there and would definitely go back!
The Former Front Street Bar is now Bailey's. At the beginning ( or end ) of Temecula's tourist trappy strip.
Their website is impressive. Can't say I ate there, because I didn't.
On this July Sunday afternoon the place had the vibe of a giant day care center. The  loud "raggae" band was  supplying music for about 40 five to ten year olds to hop up and down and run in circles. I couldn't wait to finished my overpriced beer and get the hell outta there before little Tyler or Taylor dumped a soda on my shoes.
When a place says " all ages show " it usually means teenagers not toddlers.
We stopped in to the bar area for a bite to eat before a show on June 20th. Â The place was not full and the two bartenders were cleaning things up rather than pouring tons of drinks for customers. Â We told our server that we were in a bit of a hurry and what items on the menu are the fastest to make? Â We ordered based on her suggestion. Â My burger although ordered medium was quite leathery but the frys were good. The jambalaya was decent. Â The problem came in that we had to ask for the bill 4 times (over 15 minutes) before we got it. Â Then it was wrong with an extra beer on it we didn't order. Â This took so long that we were 30 minutes late for the show and missed some of the best songs!
To make matters worse, one of their taps flooded the bar and soaked right into my coach purse which had only been used one time. Â They told me I shouldn't have had it on the bar and offered no apologies or concessions. Â We generally love bar and grill places but will not go back here again. Don't do it!
I had lunch here yesterday with my wife. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the veggie flat bread pizza, and a strawberry mojito. My wife had one of their pasta dishes. My wife hates pesto sauce. She was happy that she had the option to choose Marinara sauce in her pasta, instead of Pesto. Our food was ok. It wasn't horrible... but it wasn't delicious. My mojito must have had a few drops of alcohol. I'm not a drinker, therefore I am a lightweight. I drank my mojito before the food came. Not only could I not taste the alcohol, but I did not feel it kick in at all- Which I found strange because I drank it on an empty stomach. Don't know that I'll be recommending this place to anyone looking for great food and drinks. Good place to go if you need a quiet place to eat for lunch.
Review Source:This place was great!
Lauren, our server, was amazing! The food was perfect! We had double veggies which were perfect, the salmon, and the surf an turf. Sooooo yummy. We had the chocolate cakes for dessert which were to die for!
Other notables - Austin, very sweet and personalable. Brett - very respectful as a back waiter - very attentive.
Great experience and would come here again..... Ask for the seat by the fire.
Yes again, eat dinner here at least once every 2 weeks & it's very consistent. Best Sirloin Beef Burgers on old town. Sides are all great. Fresh Tap Beer & great cocktails. Service is always good or above average. Bottom line is we have eaten @ Baileys Front Street Bar down Stairs probably 50 times over the last 2 years & we always get excatly the same results. The weekend music & outdoor patio is the best in Old Town Temecula. Yea we are life time customers. You can't go wrong & we don't. Shzaam !!
Review Source:Well Front Street started off my experience slowly by leaving me to stand and wait in the front reception area for several minutes, while others were being served to tables, both those that arrived before and after. Â I was super sure I was dreaming, so I didn't walk out once the curdling sick feeling hit me of what was happening.
Eventually someone did hand me a menu and said sit where you want. Â Not standard, but at least they stopped ignoring all 6'2" of me. Â Then another waitress apologized, she didn't realize I was waiting for a table. Â Well, I got an apology at least.
I went midday Sunday and had the choice between breakfast and lunch menus. Â In the mood for brunch, I tried the Poached Egg with Canadian Bacon and a Mimosa. Â The food was good, but not stand out.
Front Street Grill is perched on the edge of Old Towne so it was the first thing I saw driving through, and was tempted enough to stop for a closer look. Â There is a wooden stage on the far side of the patio that I suspect makes a great band shell during the warmer months. Â The outdoor patio is likely the greatest draw to the restaurant. Â It's well laid out and has the cover of massive umbrellas suspended by cables to keep patrons out of direct sun light. Â Makes for a great vibe to just relax.
Lots of potential for this place. Â Just not realized on my visit.
This place has the worst service. After a compilation of things went wrong tonight including accidentally walking out with the wrong purse, I was treated no better than a hardened criminal. Plus, looks nice on outside, but dirty and unsanitary on the inside. Very disappointed for a first impression, and will not be back or ever recommended.
Review Source:After yet again more atrocious behavior by staff here, I don't care what band I might be interested in seeing here, I will not be back.
During our recent visit to hear one of our favorite local bands we put our name right at the top of the wait list for patio seating for dinner. In the meantime we sat in the bar, had a few cocktails and an appetizer. When our table was ready we started moving our drinks over to it.
The elderly hostess approached me and stated very curtly "You can't move there now". I'm thinking she means it's not ready yet and instead we find out she wants to deny us our table claiming we already ate dinner and the tables in that location are only for dinner.
She continues to insist we no longer get the table as there are now other people on the wait list. My blood pressure is thru the roof by now as I'm having to argue for this damn table we not only patiently waited for but spent money while doing so, unlike others that just sat around sipping on their complimentary waters.
Goodbye Forever F.S.B&G. Thankfully there are dozens of choices around here where the staff is appreciative of their customers.
My husband and I have been here a few times now. We stopped in again on a Monday night, and we were not disappointed. The chile stuffed chicken is what my husband ordered, and I ordered the salmon. They were both delicious. I don't see how there could be such poor reviews. Yes, the food takes a little longer, but it's fresh. Most restaurants can't say that anymore, because everything is frozen. Our service this last time was better than ever. Thank you, Kathleen.
Review Source:I am surprised to see any low ratings for the Front Street Bar & Grill since we have always had positive experiences.
We hosted two dinner parties here with more than thirty guests each time and had very successful events. Affairs like ours can become quite expensive and we had a clear understanding of the costs and the only surprises were the good kind. Like when the final bill is as expected and when everyone we worked with was pleasant, competent, and honest.  We certainly would not have returned a second time if  things had not gone well the first time. There is always the possibility of disaster at such large gatherings and I was relieved at the end of the day when my blood pressure was still in the normal range.
Also, we have enjoyed dinner for two upstairs and found the service above average and the food and drinks at least as good as anywhere else in the same price range in Temecula.
After dinner we went downstairs and enjoyed the reggae band.
It appears most of the complaints concern the downstairs bar and dining which is something we have not experienced.
The owner of Front Street Bar and Grill kindly sent us a gift certificate after my last review in order to provide us with the opportunity to try his restaurant again. Â Living 50 miles away we don't get in the area often, but we finally had a reason to go down for Saturday lunch a few weekends ago. Â
I hate to say it, but we were no more impressed this time than we were the first time.  I think my biggest issue is service.  Nobody was at the door when we walked in, servers were standing around chatting constantly and our server was pretty bad.  Our salad came out when our lunch should have and our lunch trailed behind by only a couple minutes.  She didn't notice our empty drinks when she came to our table and I had to wave to her to ask for refills.  It took through our whole meal to get refills, partially because she stood by the computer in a conversation.  Her overall demeanor was not friendly and outgoing. I guess in a nutshell, the atmosphere is not  inviting; maybe we just stumbled across the wrong restaurant with 2 kids in tow.
The food was pretty good, not mind blowing. I loved the tomato bisque soup and the salad. Â My husband and I ordered a flatbread pizza, which was fine. Â My kids enjoyed their noodles.
When factoring the food and service together, unfortunately we don't have a reason to go back with all the other options in the area.
I will just sum it up, DON'T GO!!!!!!! We had a friend visiting us from out of town, we read the reviews and thought we would give it a try. First it was almost empty, service was slow (really slow) and there wasn't anyone there. Second, the food came they screwed up my order and my husband didn't even get his whole order, my sisters was cold and our friends was just BAD!! The food was awful! the service was awful and management could care less!!! Please don't GO!!!
Review Source:Sunday afternoon late lunch-big party outside on patio was loud so we headed inside. Â Nice atmosphere - not crowded at all.
Service was good - I ordered fish & chips which I would not recommend - the batter is the batter used for chicken fingers and is way to heavy for the fish. Â Hubby had the signature burger...said if he had a choice would rather have an in and out burger.
Had big hopes for this place - but it is only a one time place - much better places out there in Temecula
After an afternoon of wine tasting, we strolled through Old Town Temecula and stopped here for a casual dinner. Â We have been to Baily's upstairs, but wanted something less formal. Â We enjoyed the Sterling Chardonnay along with the Shrimp and pasta and Caesar salad. Â The shrimp were blackened Lousiana style and were really good!
Back to our hotel to get ready for the World of Wine weekend..our SEVENTH year!
Seated quickly ...
Patio was nice ...
Ambience was nice (save for the Harleys rolling down the street) ...
Food was very good (standard bar & grill fare with pizzas) ...
Service was awful. Â If the waiter had worried more about being attentive than constantly telling us "I'll be back in a moment with your drinks/for your order/with your food", then disappearing for ten minutes, it would have been a great experience.
Arrived on a Sunday, and there was only two other occupied tables in the place. Our waiter Michael told us to sit where ever we wanted and he would bring a high chair for our 2 year old. We picked a spot next to the window. The ambiance was nice, the place was quiet and clean. Michael came by and took our drink orders. He was pretty dull, other than attempting to raz my husband about his football team (he was wearing a football jacket), he didn't offer up much personality. Things didnt get better either. I ordered a beer and my husband a soda. I began feeding my son some yogurt we had brought in, just then the yogurt slipped and fell onto the floor creating a mess. Michael walked up just as it happened and looked irritated. I actually appologized to HIM! He didn't offer to get it cleaned up or bring us more napkins. So we sat there trying to clean it up with the napkins we had and then trying not to step in what was left behind.
The beer  I ordered was good, and we decided to order. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger with fries and I ordered a half size veggie flat bread pizza to share and a cobb salad. My husband also asked Michael if we could have more napkins... at this point Michael, grabbed one single napkin from another table and handed it to my husband, leaving behind the utensils..... I was so annoyed by this, that as soon as he walked away I went to that same table and grabbed the other 3 napkins as well. We then continued to clean up the yogurt that was still on the floor.
The food came out and the flat bread pizza was not crisp as I'd expected, but rather soggy and quite heavy with cheese. My husband was very dissapointed in his burger which fell apart right as he tried to take a bite. The bun was soggy and the whole thing just crumbled. My cobb salad was good but needed extra dressing, I decided to ask our uninterested waiter if he would mind getting me some, which he did in his lifeless way.
After we ate, Michael asked if we planned on getting desert. I told him we were finished. Some more tables started to fill up in the place and we waited for our tab. Once it arrived we scurried to pay the bill and get out of there quick. Michael is lucky he got 15%, I consider this a lesson as I will never spend my hard earned cash in this establishment again. There's a ton of other restaurants in old town, but we chose this place because it looked classy. The food was crap, the service was worse.
UPDATE: Yelp recently informed me that they were removing my picture of the flatbread pizza and burger because it showcased my personal experience? I thought that was what yelp was all about? I see the manager is commenting on several of  the posts here, so I assume he made a fuss about the unfavorable pics. Pathetic, just own the fact that you have bad service and gross food and hire someone to help you, like Chef Gordon Ramsey.
After a long day of wine tasting, it's always nice to get a recovery meal. Â My family and I walked down most of downtown on a Friday night before deciding to eat at the Front Street Bar and Grill. Â We opted to eat outside, despite the cold, due to the heat lamps on the patio and the awesome big band jazz group playing in the adjoining courtyard. Â However, had we stayed inside we would have been treated to an acoustic guitar performance in the warmth.
Both the inside and patio were well occupied, but the service was attentive. Â We ordered soon after we were seated.
Jambalaya - A very peppery dish. Â The rice was well seasoned and tasty, the chicken and sausage were a little too blackened but were pretty good. Â It's not a standard jambalaya, in that it was just a bed of rice with two pieces of chicken and a whole sausage cut in half length-wise, but it was not bad. Â Very filling.
Meatloaf - Pretty tasty and tender. Â Gravy and mashed potatoes that accompanied were also good.
Triple pepperoni pizza - A good amount of pepperoni. Tomatoes in the sauce were a little on the sweet side. Â Nice and cheesy though.
Cobb salad - Massive. Â All the right ingredients. Â Lots of each. Â A great salad.
Summary: Overall, an enjoyable dining experience. Â Great service. Â Reasonable prices. Â Food was good on average. Â Parking is all via street, so you might have to drive around for a bit. Â If you happen to come when the big band is playing, you're in for a treat.
We were hanging out in Old Town Temecula (Wow I never thought I would say that) when we walked up to the place. It looked empty but the sign said "Open" and we were hungry for some lunch. It is really two restaurants with a "Fine dining" restaurant upstairs. Since this was lunch time, it was closed so we got seated at the ground-floor restaurant which is the Front Street Bar and Grill.
The menu was OK but nothing new. Both me and my girlfriend ordered up a burger. I got the California BLT with homestyle chips and she got the BBQ western one with sweet potato fries. The burgers were really good. Hand-packed patties with good condiments, well cooked and juicy. The chips were great but the sweet potatos were a bit bland. The waitstaff was friendly and serviceable. The sodas were a bit watered down however, and the lack of other people was off-putting considering there were a lot of people outside.
All in all a good place for lunch and now that I know traffic is low at lunch I will probably go there again and enjoy the emptiness.
Sigh. Where do I start? Â We stumbled onto this place, drawn to the live music while walking by. Â We had a larger party of 7, which most places were telling us we'd need to wait at least an hour for a table. Â They sat us right away in a little corner booth inside. Â
We ordered drinks, a variety of cocktails, ranging from Vodka/Soda, Bloody Marys, Wine and even a Coca-cola. Â First round that came from the bar fountain were all beyond flat. Â We sent them back and the waitress came back with round two.....all flat. Â By this time, those who had ordered drinks with soda water in them were getting a little peeved, since I had had my lovely bloody mary for almost 15 minutes of their soda water debacle. Â Then, things just got funnier....
Round 3, the waitress came back with doubles for each of the drinks, and two large glasses of soda water and tonic water....(you guessed it!)......bot FLAT. Â She also gave us shot glasses with limes and olives, as if the bar tender couldn't even be bothered to assemble our table's drinks anymore. Â Just send all the parts out, separately, that will shut them up! Â
Food was ok. Â I was a little weirded out that my flat bread pizza came out on a round plate, cut into little odd shaped triangles, some looking more like drunk squares than triangles. Â I like to cut my own food up, and if you cut my pizza, please leave it whole. Â I just envisioned someone in the back manhandling my pizza and lost my appetite. Â
THEN, after we were about 1/2 done with our food, they started pressuring our section to leave by roping off the section with velvet rope and staring at us, with folded arms. Â I guess it turns into a club later that night? Â We told our waitress we wanted our bill, and then discovered she had charged us for all of our returned drinks. Â She made the bill right, and comped a salad, which I appreciated. Â Our poor waitress was as sweet as pie, and pretty good too with service, but you could tell she was being backed by a terrible crew. Â
I couldn't wait to get the hell out of this place and as we were leaving, the Rock band was terribly fumbling through a Black Eyed Peas song, "Tonight's going to be a Good night, yes tonight's going to be a  Good Good night! Whooohoooo!", I laughed out loud.
*Copy and pasted a sentence from another review. Lol.*
I came here last Sunday for their breakfast. Swing Inn was my first choice but figured it would be crowded, and it was. Walked in and almost wondered if they were open until I looked on the patio and saw all the customers. There were only 2 waitresses so we sat ourselves. Not sure if there were 2 people scheduled to work that day, until 10:30, but it was a VERY slow experience. We were there for a little bit longer than an hour. The waitresses were overwhelmed and you could tell.
Onto the food. I had biscuits and gravy, which were HORRIBLY dry - worst I've had. The GF got the french toast which were mediorcre at best.
Don't think we'll be back.
Ok, Let me take a deep breath...
I've heard nothing but good things about this place. Located in Old Town Temecula in a vintage building the place was not crowded at all. The hostess seated us right away and was not much for small talk. Every question we had was answered with a short one or two word reply. Even our waitress, who sat us in the corner when there were plenty of other open seats available, never came all the way to our table to ask us if "everything was ok". She did ask (once), but hunched over from the table behind us to save her the extra two footsteps.
So for the food, I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. I never order "comfort" food but I thought I'd be different and it sounded good with my Hefeweisen. I've never had meatloaf that fell apart. The only thing that stayed together was the andouille sausage in the middle which had all heat and no flavor, which gave the meatloaf, well, no flavor. The mashed potatoes were tasty though. My wife ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich which is normally served during lunch, but they made the exception seeing how it wasn't very crowded. In hindsight she realized she should have ordered the soup and salad combo. Normally the sandwich is made first, dipped in batter then fried. Not meat and cheese sandwiched between two pieces of greasy french toast. Although the sweet potato fries were, like the mashed potatoes, very tasty.
Then when it came time to pay the tab, the waitress told us to have a great evening, but by the time I said "You too!", all I saw was the back of her head as she walked away. Also, we were not bidded a friendly goodbye by not only the hostess but our waitress as well! I guess their own conversation was too important to make sure their patrons had a lovely evening.
The only thing that was enjoyable was that it was a dinner date with my wife.
My family and I came here to celebrate my sister's birthday on a Saturday for lunch.  It was blazing outside so we decided to forgo the  beautiful patio and asked to be seated inside.  The inside of the restaurant is fairly small with a few booth and tables and a small bar on the side.  I believe most customers are attracted to this place because of their large outdoor seating.
We were a party of 8 and were seated promptly.  The restaurant wasn't busy at all and we were the only ones eating inside.  Considering the  lack of customers, I was expecting the service to be attentive, but that was not the case.  Our waitress lagged a bit and had to ask for refills. Â
On to the food. Â Everything we had was average or something we ourselves could make at home. Â
Fried artichokes with Thai salad: 3.5 out of 5, the breading on the artichoke is comparable to the breading you get on fried mozzarella. Â The salad on the hand was tasty with a tangy peanut dressing.
Hanger steak with cajun mac and cheese: 2 out of 5, asked for medium rare and it came out medium well. Â The steak was extremely tough and dry. Â The cajun mac and cheese wasn't cheesy at all. Â I wouldn't recommend this dish.
Vanilla ice cream cookie sandwich: 3 out of 5, who doesn't love two warm chocolate chip cookies in between a large scoop of vanilla ice cream? Can't go wrong with this.
Overall, our experience here was very average. Â The food itself wasn't great, at best it was ok. Â I'd probably come back if some friends asked me to come out with them to have a bite to eat, other than that, I believe Old Town Temecula has better food to offer than this. Â If you're looking for some good food in the area, try out Public House.
Very weird reviews -
I've been stopping in here for lunch for years now when in Old Town and
the other restaurants on this strip cater to the grandma doily crowd or the reenactment set, neither of which has balsamic vinegar high on their list of priorities. Not all of us are fans of chicken fried steaks. The menu here has a pretty wide variety and everything I've ever ordered in the last five years has never been a disappointment. Fresh, tasty and enjoyable. The patio is nice and the service has been competent and friendly.
Every server has had a bad moment now and again. I think that customers that receive the random f*ck-up are the ones that tend to squeal the loudest. Perhaps they have no restaurant experience and therefore no compassion. It aint' the easiest gig, folks. Try it. Â
I have learned that if there is a tasting room or gourmet shop (Temecula Olive Oil) in an area, ask them for a dining recommendation which is how I found this place. Thank God I did because I'd be on Yelp bitching about the Palin-style diners in the area,.....
Spent the weekend at my long time friend's house in Temecula for his birthday. Â After witnessing Anderson Silva tapout Chael Sonnen at the last minute to keep his belt, we were pumped to continue our drinking at a local bar.
I did know there was an Old Town Temecula but did not know that it had a night life there. Â It was either Old Town or the club at Pechanga. Â We all put on my friend's shirts so we can get in. Â This place has a cool set up for sure. Â Not sure how the food is so can't comment on it. Â The place was hoppin when we got there but not crazy crowded. Â Front Street is quite large too. Â The main foyer and bar area is transformed into a dance floor. Â There is a large seating area outside in the back to relax and mingle. Â The second floor has another small bar and lounge area. The music was great mostly top 40 and some 80's throwback. Â Drinks here are reasonably priced much lower than most Hollywood clubs so that's a plus. Â The party goers here are mostly chill and a lot are from Murrietta.
Went there with a group of about 9 friends. Asked up front to have the check split into 4 checks. The waitress said no problem but she'd probably forget and for us to remind her what we had at the end. No big deal. Food was fine, it was probably even good.
During the course of the night the server spilled a beer on one of the guys. It wasn't a big deal. Things happen. Even though it was on a silk shirt. Then, later on a couple of the girls ordered tequila shots. She also spilled the entire shot on his shirt. She did bring a new one and kind of apologized. We still were being understanding.
You can't help noticing that not ONE employee there smiles. Not just our server who we forgave for all the spilling and absentmindedness because she seemed so depressed.....but as we looked around even the 2 bartenders seemed sad. ....even the hostess had no smile. Â Every staff person had the same sad look on thier faces. Â All we could come up with is that it must not be a nice place to work. Â
Then there was the music. God love him a really old man playing cowboy music on a guitar. There were literally 2 songs we recognized but the rest were for real unknown cowboy songs.
The final straw was wen we asked for the check. We sat for over 45 minutes with not even a water refill waiting.....and waiting...and waiting. We were finally so irritated that we all went and stood by the register hoping she would bring it to us. After another 20 minutes we finally got our checks. I told her that we were really irritated having to wait an hour to pay and she said splitting checks takes forever and she had 5 tables outside.(which by the way were about the only people in the whole place) Â No smile, no apology, just the 18% added to each one since there were more than 6 of us at the table. And our friend was charged for the drinks the server spilled! He didn't even argue since he was afraid we'd be there all night.
It was a no good horrible very bad night. If you would like service with a smile or quick service or a happy atmosphere or good music....go somewhere else.
I love the food hear and they have a good beer selection on tap. Their sweet potato fries are soooooo yummy and great with a hef.
Also their Monte Cristo sandwhich is so worth the calories (french toast bread with strawberry jam with ham n cheese melted yummy!!
Also soups n salads are great too. The food overall is great here. and the atmosphere is really nice.
This place is nice without being pretentious. Â I highly recommend the Chile Stuffed Chicken with the side of Mashed Sweet Potatoes - tha bomb. Â For drinks, I was quite fond of the Naughty School Girl, and the Mint Bailey's Martini was table favorite. Â Even better, there's live entertainment, the guy they have singing and playing his keyboard is sooo good! Â He even had the restaurant singing along with him at one point. Â Oh yeah, it also has a gigantic patio with outdoor seating and heat lamps. Â I would imagine it'd be a great place to dine in the summer.
After 10 the place becomes After Eleven (ha ha), that's when it turns into a Hip Hop club and all the kids come out to play.
I came here for dinner with friends on my most recent pilgrimage to the Temecula Wine Country. Firstly, I'd never been to old town Temecula before, and found the whole place charming. My friends and I dined al fresco on the large enclosed patio, the weather cooling down during twilight to soft gentle breezes upon the skin. Here's what I had:
House Cabernet - I had two glasses of this, the wine first being brought to the table in a small decanter. I really like that little touch. Wish I knew what kind it was.
Linguine Bolognese - soft tendrils of pasta with a ground beef sauce lounging nicely on top. There were large pieces of ground beef, and the meat has a spiciness to it that most Bolognese dishes lack. I loved it, and devoured nearly the whole entree.
Our server, Tim, was very conscientious and friendly. I'm not sure about the parking situation, as I was in no condition to drive (too much wine), but it didn't seem to be a problem. Although I am loyal to my usual Temecula brunch place, I may cheat on them and come here at some point...the brunch menu looks scrumptious. Will most assuredly be back on one of my future sojourns.
Good place for lunch - haven't been here for dinner. Â The prices are reasonable, the food is tasty/solid (though nothing is outstanding), and the outdoor dining is really nice on a pleasant day. Â I've also been fortunate to have nice servers. Â
However, it gets busy here for lunch, so don't come here if you're in a hurry.
I had no idea this place existed until I frantically asked my coworkers for a place to meet a date at. Â Yeah, I've lived in the area six years and still learning. My boss suggested Front Street because she adored their sweet potato fries and their outdoor dining. Â I've been there a couple times, first for dinner, second for lunch and neither time did they shine.
First, the "date", in quotations, as it turned out he was gay  and after the immediate feeling of humiliation, we're now very close friends.  We chose to eat outside since it was July, perfect weather for outdoor dining.  Once we were situated we sat back and started talking which then gave way to odd looks at each other, as we repeatedly lifted our arms up...then down...up...down.. Yup, we were sticking to the table!
When a waitress came back I asked about the tables and she said she was sorry, but the manager (or owner, can't remember) was out of town but would be back soon. The tables would be re-stained then. Â Uh, okay, and that helps us how? Â I was waiting for an offer or suggestion so we didn't have to eat at a sticky table but it took a look of exasperation from my friend to get an offer. Â And then, all she could suggest was a couple large cloth napkins. Huh. Â A table cloth would've been nice! Â
Anyhow, we got over it, mildly content with our large napkins as makeshift place mats. Â The food was mediocre, definitely not something to ooh and aah over. Â The crab cakes were decent, but hardly worth $9.95 for three of them. Â My pasta was ok, but again, nothing special. Â I suppose they specialize in seafood but for someone who has a fond distaste for it (aside from crap cakes), the lack of choices for those who like non-seafood entres was frustrating. Â
We were there for an early dinner at 6pm but service was a little slow. Â I will give them credit on the bread...couldn't get enough of it, but then again, I needed it to keep content until we actually received our food.
Â
The second time I ventured here was for lunch with my coworkers. Â Thankfully, the tables had been stained (!!) and again it was perfect weather for outdoor eating. Â Service improved this time around but the food was still not exciting. I ordered a turkey croissant, something I could get many places, and in fact have had better ones from the California Bagel Company. Â I do have to give them kudos for some very good clam chowder. Â For their sake it was very filling so the lameness of my sandwich didn't leave me too unsatisfied.
Considering the amazing presentation of the restaurant (and fancy smancy made me feel special bathrooms) I expected more. Â Â I was told the Front Street Bar & Grill is the more casual and cheaper of the dining establishment, Baileys being upstairs. Â If this is cheaper and coming from the same kitchen, then I'd hate to see how much it is upstairs and would hope the quality is at least a notch up.
This wasn't the first place we wanted to go to eat. Â We actually wanted to go to The Bank down the street for some greasy Mexican food but there was a shooting right outside of the restaurant minutes before we walked up. Â Yes, a shooting ~ kinda freaky! Â There was a lot of commotion, so we decided to get the hell out of there and find something to eat. Â
We stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Â The decor is very nice and they had live music playing which was great. Â Â We waited at the bar while they got our table ready. Â The bartenders were very friendly. The drinks were alright ~ a little on the watered down side. Â They were not expensive so that made it ok. Â
We ordered the Mushroom Drops appetizer and all four of us thought it was delicious! Â It had all of our favorite flavors: Crimini mushrooms stuffed with jalapeno and cream cheese, wrapped in a won ton and fried, served with a Teriyaki dipping sauce. Â This would be the highlight of our meal! Â
I ordered the Chili Stuffed Chicken ($15.95) which is a chicken breast stuffed with jack cheese, roasted anaheim and red bell peppers, roasted and finished with an Anaheim chili and cilantro cream sauce, served with Spanish rice and sauted vegetables. Â I don't normally eat chicken but this was really good ~ it's all about the sauce. Â I wasn't a fan of their Spanish rice and the veggies were just shredded sauteed carrots and baby broccoli. Â
My husband ordered the Griled Hanger Steak (19.95). Â The steak itself was prepared to his liking, but he complained of not having enough sides (a small portion of mashed potatoes and the same veggies as I had). Â Our friends had the Seafood Pasta ($16.95) and Front Street Spinach Salad ($7.95) and they seemed to both enjoy their meal. Â
The service was on spot. Â No complaints there. Â For the price, this restaurant is decent. Â We had been warned that there was no good places to eat in Old Town Temecula, so we were surprised with the Front Street Bar & Grill.
If they would skipped the "& Grill" part of Front Street Bar & Grill, they would probably have much better reviews here. Â Though the menu looks promising, somehow most of the food comes up short.
The bar is very cool, great patio, comfortable style and the bar tend can whip up some top notch cocktails. Â However, its too small due to all the tables full of people eating disappointing food. Â The good food is upstairs at Baily's Fine Dining (same chef).
Front Street Bar and Grill is a charming little restaurant in Old Town. I really like the interior decorating of the restaurant and I have heard some really good jazz artists perform here.
The menu looks good on paper, but I have been disappointed by too many meals here. A lot of the food is Cajun style and I have found it hard to order a light or healthy meal at this place. I've had a pasta dish here that I thought was spicy and I have had a veggie burger here that I though was too bland. I can recommend the sweet potato fries though, they are addicting!
My favorite aspect of the Front Street Bar and Grill is the bar. The drink menu is pretty extensive, and I the bartender makes great mojitos.
But this food is disappointing and the prices are a little too high.
Old Town Temecula has really been transformed in the past decade, and this place is an example of the best and worst of that transformation. Located on the corner in a new "old-fashioned" western building, it's a small place with lots of outdoor seating. The patio is fine during the day, but too cold for use at night (even with the gas heat lamps).
Inside, it's got a nice, hip vibe. Live music on some weekend nights. Not a lot of tables and a small bar. The food, however, is only so-so, especially for the prices.
The better choice is Baily's, located upstairs and considerably upscale. I'd still go here on occasion, but just for drinks and maybe an appetizer.
