The Garden Deli is just.so.charming. The food is fine - not amazing, but not bad at all. But its the outdoor seating under trees that gets me to return to this little place summer after summer. The wait staff is friendly and the prices are low. Garden Deli always brings a smile to my face.

I will settle the dispute being an objective Yankee visitor ;).  Atmosphere is super friendly and laid back.  The patio is a porch and patio with trellis and arbors. Climbing vines are climbing the posts and all is built around a willow tree and mostly cool, comfortable and shady.  If you don't like that you probably are a cement contractor.  Quickly ordered a tasty sweet tea and there is plenty of helpful and friendly waitresses and even busboys.  Seating is a combo of vinyl patio furniture, wooden picnic tables and even a bar top section to accommodate large and small families, couples and solo clients.  Seeing the 1 $ sign on the Yelp description, I have expectations set as I order a Cordon Bleu Sandwich with a MAC salad side.  Here's a first, a busboy helped me with decision.  That's a happy employee which says a lot about his employer.  Hours of op are somewhat strange but I'm sure it works as the place is packed. I just found this place at 1:30 just in time.  So, my food is good, fits the price range, fresh and appropriate portions.  Oh, and a waitress walking around topping off people's tea is great.
Quite frankly, Lydia, I don't give a damn....you must have had a bad day, or week, or month...

Great atmosphere as much of the restaurant seating is among a beautiful setting on the outside porch.  The entire porch is surrounded by significant trees giving a great environmental experience while enjoying your lunch.  It is located in the cool shade underneath a remarkable willow tree.  The seating is surrounded by lush plants and views of the Burnsville Town Square.  Also would like to add the menu provides a wide variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches.

Lydia's right it's not a deli but a soup and sandwich restaurant. Both of which are decent not spectacular. Beer and wine selection are pretty good fat tire draft and a ok wine list. Seating outdoors on a pretty city square under a big old tree and wisteria. Service southern and friendly.

I came to this place while traveling North after my nephews baseball games with the Asheville Tourists. We got lost, and we were hungry and happened to be in Burnsville and LUCKILY The Garden Deli was there. The chicken salad was fresh and tasty and came with a side of macaroni salad that reminded me of home, (no store bought there), the roast
BBQ pork was just as I remembered growing up as a teen in NC years ago. The staff was friendly and the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant was clean and that's all I wanted. We've since been back a few times and have tried many other things on the menu. The soups are outstanding and the menu is surprisingly diverse for a quiet town in North Carolina. Thanks for caring about my budget and the quality of food you make.

This is one of the few spots in Burnsville to get a meal that is not fast-food, but don't go expecting a deli.I have only eaten there for lunch. The menu choices are standard lunch fare, and the prices very reasonable. The staff is friendly and cheerful. I believe they only serve lunch until 2:00 P.M.

I've lived in nearby Spruce Pine with a work office in Burnsville, so I am very familiar with most of the eateries in the surrounding areas, good and bad. The Garden Deli is to me lunch done right. When I lived in the area I dined with the Garden Deli, either in the dining room or via take out, at least twice a week.

I am not a vegetarian by any means, but I prefer several of their vegetarian selections over their meatier ones much of the time. You will not find a better Veggie Burger in all of Yancey or Mitchell County. Their Greek Grilled Cheese melts in your mouth and leaves you stuffed. I have tried most of their soup and sandwiches on the menu and I have yet to be disappointed.
Every single time I have eaten there I have had to wait in line, but understandably, because they are so good that they stay busy.
A good way to skip the lines is to order as take out. There are plenty of places within walking distance, for instance the town square benches across the street, to enjoy a relaxing delicious lunch with out being inconvenienced.
I now live in Orlando, FL and do not have the option go to the Garden Deli as much as I like, but I always make sure it is on my agenda when I visit.

I have a summer home in Burnsville, so I frequent local businesses often. The Garden Deli is a must do stop for us at least once a week when we're in B'ville.

Is it the greatest deli in the sense of the classic New York legends? Nope. But the food is damned good, consistently prepared, served by friendly waitstaff, and, if you arrive much after the 11 AM. opening, most likely a wait in line.

What brings us back time and again? Good food, and the variety. From TexMex to deli NY deli clones, the Garden's offerings are moderately (cheap?) priced, fresh, and well prepared. Potato wedges (not on my diet anymore) are wonderfully crisp outside, and soft inside. Blackened chicken sub serves up mildly spicy (I'm a fire-eater) breast with trimmings. Good macaroni and potato salads, too. Over-sized desserts.

If the weather is nice, score a table in the shaded outdoor area. Al fresco is the way to enjoy the mountains.

I've tried most of the menu, and never had a disappointing prep. Whenever we have guests at the cabin, we never hesitate to offer a trip to the Garden Deli, and that's the best recommendation I can make.

Not a deli, more like a school cafeteria with table service... There is nothing remarkable about this establishment neither the selection nor the quality. It is average though decent and consistent. Nice setting if you do not mind sitting underneath heavy foliaged trees, especially in summer or else sit inside. They have very limited hours from 11-2, M-Sat. Cheap and cheerful but no deli.

Garden Deli is a restaurant.  Lydia says there's "nothing remarkable about this establishment" I say, other than the fact that we've been in business for 22 years and have solid growth every year.  After reading Lydia's other negative reviews at other businesses across the US, I have to say Garden Deli in Burnsville is too busy to bend over backwards for people like her.   Our quality speaks for itself.  That's why she had to wait in line."

Me: What "line?" I never said anything about a line. I would never wait since their main competitions Hilltop and Appalachian Java are right down the street and both are 100x better... It is so much easier to like than to dislike.

I am entitled to my opinion without being chastised or castigated by the owner of this business and his shilling "friend." My review has been up long enough then 2 replies two days apart I think the other reviewer, being new and this business was the only review he has, may be fraudulent. Not good for the yelp community that reviewers be publicly called out and berated by business owners. I stand by my experience.
