My boyfriend and I were excited to try a new bar to watch the football games at, but we were disappointed very quickly with this place. Â The food (we ordered pizza) was mediocre, but the service was absolutely terrible!!! Â The waitress would walk by our table and ask "how is everything?" And then proceeded to answer the question herself instead of letting us answer for ourselves. Â My boyfriend waited at least 40 minutes for the waitress to ask him if he wanted a beer, but he gave up and had to flag her down to tell her he wanted another beer.
We will NEVER return here and will discourage anyone we know who wants to come in the future.
why do I like this place? TV's EVERYWHERE! Â it's almost as if you need to call an exterminator because TV's have infested this place. Â They always have every sports game on and you can see it in any direction you look. Â
drinks are decently priced and the food is pretty decent. Â the skirt steak sandwich is awesome and so is the philly cheesesteak. Â I also love the fries since they are like mcdonald's fries, but crispier. Â I tried the wings and they are definitely not something to be ordered here. Â the bartenders are normally very attentive and Marge has always taken very good care of us.
so if are looking for a place to watch the game, try this place out!
I'm not sure what happened to this place but it needs to wake up and rethink its strategy. Â I've had more than one patty melt that was of questionable quality. Â They do not offer free refills, if you want extra dressing-another charge. Â Their salads? Â don't bother unless you like eating the leavings from the garnish of other dishes, positively disgusting....
I will only order the pizza and even then it's a crap shoot if they have a new cook. Â Will it be smothered in sauce and soggy or not????
This place just is not dependable. Â So I choose runways in wheeling or Brandt's in palatine......
I've been here many times over the years, during football season only. Why? Because outside of football there is no other reason to be here. Quality of food has dropped over the years. I still think their pizza is great. I love a great thin crust pizza & they do it right. But the wings have dipped in quality, the nachos have gotten right down embarrassing & the worst thing is the no refills on soft drinks. Are you f#*@ing serious? A soft drink costs pennies to make & serve & you're gonna charge $2 per soda. You should be ashamed of yourself.
My recommendation, order pizza to go & avoid the over top noise inside. Unless your a football nut, then go on Sunday, get there between 11-12 & sip slowly!!
I'm not ashamed to say that I frequent Gatsby's on Saturday nights for karaoke. Â It's usually either jam packed or dead. Â However, on Saturday nights large beers are inexpensive, and just the liquid courage we need to get up in front of strangers and serenade them all, no?
What I like about Gatsby's is that the staff is friendly, the beer is cheap, the company is good, and the food is decent. Â I have yet to run into a server or bartender at Gatsby's who was less than friendly.
It's a fun time, the atmosphere is a little dingy, but what do you expect? Â Yes, it's loud. Â Yes, there are an absurd number of TV's. Â But it's a dive-y sports bar... not La Titi de Paris! Â :)
Great place to watch local sports. Lots of tv's! Food is good. On wed they have1/2 price pizza. The food specials are also tasty. We get the veggie plate as an appetizer. There is not a shortage of veggies and the ranch dressing is awosome!
Beer can get pricey. Try and find a daily special.
There are an OVERWHELMING number of TVs in this place - even for a sports bar! Â There were 8 football games on at once, all being shown on 40+ inch flat screens. Â I thought I was due for a seizure at any second.
The food was tasty, with a couple of unique selections that I really appreciated for a "standard" sports bar. Â Our server kicked ass. Â He really made sure that our large group of loud guys (plus me) were taken care of all day while we were there. Â The ladies room was clean and quiet compared to the bar, and our tab was about average for what you'd expect to spend at a bar of similar caliber in the area. Â
Definitely enjoyed ourselves, but not sure if we'd go out of our way to go there again.
Not the worst place I've been to but I've got issues with Gatsby's.
For starters, it is absurdly loud. Â When you're about to blow the speakers off the wall, that's a little much. Â If I can't even talk to the person next to me in a booth because it's that loud, it's too much. Â In a club I can understand but when you're primarily booths? Â Nope.
The TV's can be annoying, but honestly never a problem for me. Â If you're watching a big game, then it really is the place to be...if you can get in. Â And like everyone else said, there's lots of them. Â Again though, if it's not a big game they're showing, if the TV volume is playing, it gets really irritating.
2 out of the 4 times I've been here, the service was crap. Â I mean, constantly hunting down the server, waiting forever to get anything from her, and just basically treating us like we're not going to tip her. Â I've had better luck with the bartender and have stuck with the bar my last two visits.
The food is all right, I thought their wings were nothing special, their pizza was better than I expected. Â I can't remember much else we had though being memorable. Â But their food prices? Â Ugh.
The consolation for me is the drinks, their prices have been pretty good. Â Selection was pretty much typical of any bar.
I feel like I'd enjoy this place more if I liked super loud bars or in college.
I've eaten here maybe 4 times over the last few months and have to say the food is nothing special. Â Below average bar food if you ask me. Â Nachos with squirt on cheese sauce should say it all. Â The cheeseburger is ok and the pizza is nothing to right home about. Â Had the wings as an appetizer the other day and I'm not really a wing eater, but they were really good. Â Give the wings a try for sure. Â TV's are definately an overkill at this place, at lunchtime the show with volume on is Fox News..Ugh. Â
NO FREE REFILLS ON SOFT DRINKS!!?
Really??  I mean really??????  $1.75 each.  If you want to have lunch and 3 or 4 cokes you better bring your wallet!!
I have been visiting Gatsby's Pub for many years and recently felt like I was in a time warp. So its a Tuesday evening and one of the specials was spicey chicken w/ fries. The waitress we had could not even tell me what type of chicken it was being served? Then, the drink special was Kettle One mixer for 3.50, when I asked for it strait up, thats was not part of the deal. Bottom line, monies will spent with other taverns.
Review Source:Well they do have TVs everywhere. Â I mean this is great if you have the ability to move your eyes in opposite directions simultaneously while holding a conversation with whomever you came in with. Â Personally if you're not a sports fanatic (which I am not), the walls of TVs do nothing more than heat the interior of the building to an uncomfortable level and produce enough flashing lights to induce epileptic seizures. Â It's a gimmick I guess. Â Televisions aside there is nothing else remarkable about Gatsby's. Â The food is standard bar fare, nothing worth a special trip over. Â When we were there the music got progressively louder until conversation across the table was impossible. Â No free refills on soda either? Â Lame.
Review Source:This place ROCKS! Have been going here for a few years now..usually on Saturdays for their karaoke night..AL- who handles the karaoke is super nice and its the type of place where ya can belt  out and have fun-and no one will judge ya .Also, the food is great, service is pertty good..servers always coming around in a timely fashion..Im a big fan of their chicken tenders. They usually give you a pretty good portion so I share.  Theres also a good mixture of crowd...older folk..younger folk..everyone just seems to mesh pretty well. They have a million tvs so you can watch the game ANYwhere ya sit..even those who dont like karaoke can watch the game in the back room while others are karaoking...Overall, I give this place 5 stars as its one of the places where I can look back and think of how much fun I've had there...Highly recommend it and its also a great place to meet new people.
Review Source:I used to come to Gatsby's almost every night when I lived in Arlington Heights and when I first started dating my hubby. Â They have darts on the back wall and we go play, or in my case, watch. Â We always had a big group and would get pitchers. Â This was our go to spot and it was guaranteed that more people we knew would be there as well. Â The food is good too. Â I love their Buffalo Chicken wrap. Â So tasty. Â And big (that's what she said). Â I would always share or take part of it home. Â TVs are everywhere so if you want to watch a game, you'll never miss seeing it. Â The staff is friendly and I like the vibe of the place. Â It's been a while since I have been there and am feeling a reunion is long overdue.
Review Source:My husband and I love this sports bar. The staff is awesome, I don't feel pressure to order more than I want just to be able to watch the game. It is CLEAN and speaking of watching the game, there is no excuse for not being able to see the game. There are 80 high-def tv's! Basically anywhere you look, you see multiple tv's.
The food is pretty solid as well. Drink specials are typical. Not the best prices I have ever had but I'm willing to pay more for the atmosphere and a clean and friendly joint.
As a bar that used to sponsor our softball team years back, I always had good memories about good old Gatsby's. They always had great pizza and the mozzarella sticks were solid, except for the thick pasty marinara sauce that comes with them. oh well, who cares, cause after softaball.....you're basically out to eat some food and suck down some cold beers.
TVs are around the bar, with darts in the back area. good for family's if its early in the evening but kids shouldn't be running around there late at night. I once saw a little girl pee her pants on the floor. And what does the father say? "excuse me, we spilled some sprite on the floor can we have some napkins". the waitress goes "I'll clean it up" and starts wiping it off the floor. poor girl!! Yuck! ah, the memories of Gatsby's!
Great bar - my friends and I always find ourselves back here when we are home. Â The "beer garden" is great all-season round and you'll always find a few dart games going on in the back (one right in front of the men's bathroom!) Â Also, they recently bought like 200 flat screen tv's and lined the walls with them, always a game to watch. Â I wish they had a wider selection of tap beers but the atmosphere makes up for it. Â Overall great neighborhood bar.
Review Source:I can't decide between 4 and 5 stars.  I also can't believe this place has never been reviewed.  This is one my my family's favorite places in the world.  I've been going there for at least  16 years.  They have the *best* hot wings.  They are the non-battered kind with a great spicy/vinegar-y (but not too vinegar-y) sauce.  They have awesome burgers...their chicken sandwiches are very good.  All in all they have some of the best bar food around.  My family (there are 6 of us + spouses) go there and we like to get their very large vegies and hummus platter, and a HUGE order of hot wings...totally surprising.  You can watch any and every sport there and every and all games...they have tv's everywhere.  Plus they have NTN which my family loves to play.  We haven't been in a while because we all live in Chicago now.  Writing up this review has made me need to go soon.
