In so many words, their thin-crust pizza won't let you down. Unless, as in my case, you pound about 12 pieces and become glued to your chair. Soft crust, sweet tomato sauce, and plenty of fresh ingredients comprise their worthwhile "za". Almost identical to the more widespread and spoken about Aurelio's Pizza franchise in Illinois. Plenty of room inside if planning a party or bringing a massive crowd. The bar is located just down the hall from the dining room, and is surprisingly supplied with some quality craft brew favorites. Back Road Brewery, Three Floyds, Founders, Goose Island, Stone...just to name a few. Whether on tap or poured from the bottle, their beer selection is married perfect with their quality Italian American fare. Service was friendly throughout and mostly prompt. Well kept, and far from a secret concerning the locals. Definitely worth another visit next time we make it out to the Chesterton/Valpo area.
Review Source:The pizza sauce isn't my favorite, a bit too sweet for my taste. Â However, the toppings were fresh and the mozz cheese was extra stringy and delicious. Â
I was here for a large birthday event and we had a buffet-style experience, so I can't comment too much on the service other than they were speedy with bringing out anything that we would need.
Visited for a small family party. The very first thing I noticed were the hand painted walls. Pretty nice touch to a pizza joint if you ask me. Bread, Antipasto salad and pizza was the menu for lunch.
The sauce on the pizza is a little sweeter than most & the cheeses they use go very well with the sauce. We had three different pizzas with a variety of toppings. I enjoyed them all.
Who doesn't like a bonus?  - -  there is a pub attached to the back of the restaurant and they are serving  some pretty tasty craft beers up.
Wait staff was fast and friendly. We will definitely visit again when in the hood.
Underwhelming, overpriced. Â I ordered a pizza for pickup and arrived 5 minutes after the specified time - and had to wait around for 10 more minutes because it wasn't done yet. Â The hostess just stared at me blankly the entire time. Â The pizza was mega greasy and probably not worth the money.
Review Source:The food is good but what I really go here for is the Karaoke.
The Karaoke DJ (Jeff) is a true KJ master. He starts the show on time and keeps it going until 3am. Â For someone like me who likes to sing a lot this is great. Â He doesn't care if the bar is empty, if your name is in you're singing, sometimes back to back.
The song selection is one of the best I've seen and Jeff always conducts himself in professional manner.
I had the cheese pizza on the way back from a bide ride with my dad today. Really good cheese pizza - the sauce has a nice sweet tang and the cheese is a delicious blend of something other than just mozzarella. The salad was pretty standard, but the dressing was tasty. The decor is a bit of a throwback, but the service was friendly. Huge drink sizes, too.
Review Source:A good pizza place with lots of options for toppings. One half of the restaurant is a pizza restaurant, the other half is a bar. They are separated by a hallway, so the smoke and noise from the bar doesn't really make it to the restaurant.
The pizza side is great for lunch or dinner and works well with families. There is even a back room for larger groups or parties.
When in Chesterton on saturdays, we tend to head to the bar part for some karaoke and delicious beer. They have Gumball head on tap and the drinks are reasonably priced. For those worried about smoke, the room is large enough that unless the smoker is at your table, it's usually not that bad.
It's your best bet for a Bazbeaux / Jockamo's style pizza in northwest indiana.
Having grown up in NWI, I've had Gel's pizza many, many times. Â The regular pizza is good, nothing hugely special, just good pizza, but where they really shine is their cheese pizza. Â I'm not sure what is different in the cheese that they put on it, but it comes out with a slightly crispy layer on top of the pizza that is just amazing. Â There is also a pub attached to the restaurant that has killer karaoke on Sat night. Â Jeff, the karaoke dj, has a great selection and is really nice. Â Decent beer selection and good mixed drinks.
Review Source:After a beautiful, hot, sunny day at Warren Dunes, we decide to head back to Mokena, but will stop at Redemaks. Â Totally jammed, hour wait. Â So we drive on. Â Finally, by Chesterton, the missus says "just stop SOMEWHERE and let's eat.
We really don't do chain restaurants, so we see Gelsosomo's. Â Let's try it. Â From the first minute in this place, I wasn't too happy. Â First, they sit us under this rather large TV. Â Secondly, the TV was blasting loud, couldn't even talk. Â Tell the waitress when she arrives to get me a beer, and turn down the volume, please. Â When she returns with our drinks, she takes our app order, but has to have me repeat myself. Â Why? Â 'Cuz she never turned down the TV! Â Finally, she put it on mute.
All the appetizers were straight out of a box from Sysco (I'm just guessing, but there was nothing homemade about them). Â Bland, and the marinara sauce accompanying the appetizer sampler was God-awful.
Wife and kids split a pizza. Â It was OK, nothing more.
I take a risk and order deep-fried shrimp. Â Pathetic. Â These were butterflied to appear larger, but in reality they were pretty small shrimp, and few at that. Â The breading was actually not bad, panko I believe. Â Then the fries that were on the side were a sad sack of crap. Â
The waitress looked to be bothered having to work. Â Which was funny, because the other waitress working (not ours, unfortunately) was constantly smiling, cheerful to the tables around us, and always busy (which is amazing as she was clearly pregnant (blue tattoo on arm waitress=best). Â I wanted another Blue Moon, but getting her attention was near impossible. Â Finally got one, and this time I made a point of saying "no orange in my beer please". Â Ticked me off, when I ordered my first beer, it's got a piece of fruit in it. Â Didn't ask for a fruit beer. Â
Anyways, will NEVER go back to this hole.
BTW, this place has the worst decor EVER. Â Just plain bricks, nothing else, save for two bad paintings on back wall, and a Guinness mirror (really, an Irish beer mirror in an Italian joint??? WTF?)
