Let me start off by saying, I'm only reviewing their over-priced Easter brunch. I've had brunches here before, which were not bad. But, if I wanted cold french toast, pancakes, sausage, and rubbery bacon, I would have cooked it myself, and let the food sit for a few minutes. The luch things were "eh" and nobody on the staff seemed to know what was in the mystery ravioli.
The brunch was waaaaay over-priced for the quality of the food. Also, the omelet maker tried to be a show off with my friends' omelet and flip it, but dropped half of it on the floor. I gave this 2 stars for the complimentary Mimosa(which I ordered with cranberry juice instead) and our server was very nice. Otherwise I called ahead of time, to add one more to our reservation, which they still got wrong.
I will say this though, i'm local and never go here for an alcoholic beverage. They usually have two women behind the bar and for some reason, you have to fight to get a drink....
My bf and I live in Vernon and used to go to The George Inn a lot but have been trying new places recently. Â We went last night and were pleasantly surprised. Â The prices are reasonable, the portion sizes are huge and the food was good. Â The service was fair, not great but not bad either. Â No, it's not upscale but it is more than decent. Â Shocked by the poor reviews. Â I think people need to go in with reasonable expectations and they won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Stopped in with friends after spending the day at Mountain Creek.  We were looking for more of a tap house, however the beer selection was good enough for us.  $3 of the usual Coors Light, Miller, Yuengeling, $5 for better tap beers.  Food was ok, we got the Nachos $12 with spicy beef a  HUGE serving and probably one of the best nacho plates we ever had.  The chicken burrito $14 was large and just OK.  Only one server for the bar and the dining area but she did a pretty good job keeping everyones glass full.
A good spot to stop about 5 min away from Mountain Creek.
I wasn't going to review this place because it's been awhile since I've been here. But I read the other reviews and they made me laugh 'cause most were spot on. I Don't remember why we frequented it more than once but I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that there is not much in the area and we were probably starving. Service was slow and surly, Food was edible at BEST. Some undercooked, some overcooked and management gave me an argument when I complained-and I complained just once. Â I'm giving it one star only because I remember getting a BLT here once that I loved. That's all I got. I wish Yelp gave 1/2 stars because 1/2 is more appropriate. I wonder how restaurants like this survive. In that area if they were just nicer, had a decent wait staff and served food cooked properly, (not even good food! lol) they could make a fortune! Â But I guess, they already do OK because they really don't give a damn, or read, or take seriously, yelp or anyone else's reviews. Go figure. Will try never to go back. And, oh yeah, their dining area though newly renovated looks like a sterile bad diner. Very uninviting. Bar area has much better atmosphere. I don't know of any other place that redid their dining area only to make it look so much worse. Really?
Review Source:The food and service just SUCK!
I would never think of eating here ever again.
Why,you ask.
Good question. I will make this short, just like our dinning experiance!
We can't stand chicken sushi. That's correct, raw chicken. They should have left the feathers on to give us a heads up.
Raw chicken is not good for you. And ,I thought they taught that in cooking 101.
This is what these morons served us. And didn't give a shit, except on a plate,of course.
You got it,asked for the check and road into the sunset and never went back,Jack!
I don't really understand why I would go here so often. The food is ok, the appetizers aren't too bad to pick on. Never really had a great experience with the dinners. The bar is where I spent most of my time. The service at the bar is far from fast or pleasant. Get used to sitting with an empty in front of you. And don't try to figure out how your tab was calculated. Some nights they'll buy a round, some nights they won't, sometimes I think you pay for someone else's rounds. The best part of the place is the crowd. Definitely good for people watching, it's an unusual mix of old townies, 20 and 30 somethings, pseudo-cougars, and people from out of town either golfing or skiing.
Review Source:Went here after horse back riding nearby. You can tell you are in the sticks for sure. We went there for lunch around 2 or so. It was easy to get a table, the menu was huge, food was decent, service was alright. It was a little slow, but not terrible. Prices were alright, a little higher than you would expect but whatever.
I got the chicken cordon bleu sandwhich. It came with fries and 2 onion rings. There were definitely good bites.
The menu has a lot of mexican food on it which i didnt expect.
Probably wouldnt stop in again.
Not really sure why I've been to the George Inn about a dozen times when the food is so mediocre.
The onion rings had no onions in them, the fries tasted years old and the fajitas were overcooked. The nachos are decent and my turkey reuban wasn't bad if you ignore the fries.
Prices aren't bad - $6.95 for a burger and fries but I'd rather pay more for better food elsewhere.
Service was slow too. I really need to stop going here.
Yes, The George Inn. When I called for brunch reservations for Mother's Day, I was told it was the "famous" George Inn Mother's Day brunch. I don't know about that. I would have said infamous.
This was almost the biggest ripoff ever. Certainly in Sussex County. Three seatings. We arrived for the first promptly at 10:30am. We were lead to our seats and told we'd have to wait because the food wasn't ready yet. The waitress brought our coffee and said she'd let us know when we could go to the buffet. About 15 minutes later, when we saw other people going towards the buffet, we decided it was okay to go get in line.
The first pan was split between one kind of blintzes and french toast. The next was a full pan of Eggs Benedict. Imagine our surprise when we got to the sausage/bacon and home style potato tray. Practically empty. The next three trays were the more or less "lunch" foods. One was a combination of fish, mussels, shrimp. The next was lobster ravioli. The last was a split pan of some kind of chicken and mashed potatoes?
The next table had a small bowl of salad, a little bit bigger bowl of mixed fruit. Next to that was the obligatory bowl of peel 'n eat shrimp. I will say the shrimp was good.
Next to that was the omelet bar. She had two burners going with ingredients to choose from - ham, cheddar cheese, monterey jack cheese, mushrooms, onions and peppers. This was very good, but it did take a little bit of time.
There was a small table that contained a small basket of bagels and loaf of french bread (not cut).
Finally, the dessert table. Cheesecake with a bowl of strawberry compote, a chocolate cake, a vanilla cake and a small tray of 5 different kinds of cookies.
When we got the check it was $95.04. (Including tip) When you consider that all the waitress did was bring us coffee, she got 18% for her trouble. There were three of us. I am a good tipper, ask anybody. But I wouldn't have given her $20.
Instead of eating there next year, maybe I'll waitress and take my tips and go to the Double S.
