It's been a while since I've been to Gervais & Vine, and when a friend told me they were open for lunch I was thrilled. It's hard to find a place to eat out because I am on a fairly restricted diet. Tapas is perfect because the portions are smaller but perfect for lunch. I ordered the Spanish grilled shrimp with asparagus and it was DELISH! Will definitely be dining there more often. Â The service was also spot on, very friendly and good about refills on water.
Review Source:My fiancé and I came here for our last date before getting married. I'm not sure if its possible for us to have had a better time. The tapas are the best I've seen in Columbia. The service could not have been better either. We loved our visit and are definitely coming back. I can not recommend Gervais & Vine enough.
Review Source:I am waivering between 3 and 4 stars. Â I ended up with 4 because it was a cool place with friendly people. Â But it was the pianist on site was so unbelievable talented that ultimately I have to go with four stars. Â I wonder if the bar knows how good he is?!
Started with a mixed green balsamic salad with Gorgonzola, strawberries and spiced almonds. Â Excellent! Something so simple but was perfect! Â Olives were great. Â Flatbread was doughy and tasteless. Â
The pizza looked great on the menu. Â 700 degree stone oven, etc. Call me a fool for ordering pizza in SC. Â It reminded me of airport pizza. Â I guess I expected a thin crust, brick oven charred pizza. Â
Nice wine and beer selection and outdoor seating too. Â I'm sure there are better places in town but worth a try. Â Just don't get pizza if you are from NJ or NY like me.
Loved this place. My new favorite in Columbia. Went with my daughter and her friend. We ordered a bunch of different dishes/tapas to share. All different cuisines and everything was excellent.
Highlights:
The flatbread with pesto was very good. The crust has a unique texture and it works!
The mussels with chorizo were great. Nice sized portion as well.
The hummus seemed to be blended with edamame. Not sure, but it was delicious.
Had to get something not so healthy. Been trying hard to stick to my plan. When you cheat it needs to be worth it. The eggplant fries were worth every bite!
Scallops were recommended by our waitress. I am not always a fan. These can be fishy. These were awesome. Melt in your mouth.
The chocolate cake for dessert was devoured as well.
Service, by Roxie, was very good.
My only suggestion would be to space out the dishes more. Just about everything came at the same time.
Food was great....service was TERRIBLE!!!
What we thought would be an nice dinner took over 3 hours...there were only 2 of us. Our food took forever and we rarely saw our waitress. Yeah it was Saturday and they were busy...but don't you want your restaurant to be busy? They clearly don't have the capability to handle that sort of situation. I probably wont go back. There are too many other (and better) restaurants in Columbia.
Went here with a group of coworkers on a business trip. The food was amazing, and the tapas thing was so great. Â We had so many delicious little plates of food that it was perfect. Â Truly, we had a hard time deciding what to pick because it all looked so good, and we weren't disappointed. Â The drink of the day was cucumber lemonade - it was delicious! Â 5 stars.
Review Source:I.had.TWO.foodgasms.tonight. Holy f$$##!!!
I've been to Gervais & Vine a handful of times over the last few months but tonight the food was an A++, the best I've had at the place, EVER! Â My friend and I ordered four dishes and split a dessert and everything was phenomenal. Â The eggplant fries were soo much better this time than the last time I had them. Â The crispy exterior and tender and juicy interior were equally PERFECT. Â I absolutely loved the side honey yogurt dip and romesco sauce, they both were A-MAZING! I got my first big foodgasm from this plate alone! I also had stuffed grape leaves that were mouthwatering. Â The Roman pizza was just as good today as it was when I had it the first time. Â The spinach artichoke spread was heavenly. Â But my ultimate and final foodgasm came from the Chocolate Hazelnut Torte, which was THE best way to end an already over the top dining experience. I fell head over heals for the chocolate fluffy ecstasy, there's no other way to say it. Â Todd my man, you've got mad culinary skills!
Excellent place! Went there on a Saturday night and it was packed. We waited about 15 min. The place was quaint and great ambiance. The food was good too. My fave? The eggplant fries were fantastic! It came with a white sauce similar to the Greek yogurt sauce and a red pepper sauce. Â We also had the petite fillet and almond brie. Â They were both great. Â As for the wine, I had a couple of reds. I had a Pinot Noir and a Chianti. Â My friend had a couple of Rieslings, and she liked them, too.
Review Source:The lamb chops, herbed flat bread, bruschetta and beef paillardes were tasty but the service was horrible! Â Our server spent all her time with larger parties and ignored my party of two. Â We waited about 10-15 minutes to get refills and the bill. When she brought the "bill" there was no check in there so we ended up waiting even longer. My recommendation: only eat here if you are with at least 3 others and/or have a lot of patience!
Review Source:I'm pretty much a fan of any place that has a good wine list and the wine list at Gervais & Vine is great. The tapas are tasty and the crowd is always fun (probably from all of the wine!). The only gripe about the place is that the service is ALWAYS horrible. My advice is to sit at the bar rather than at a table as the bartenders are typically more attentive.
Review Source:We tried the bruschetta, herbed flatbread, lamb chops and beef paillardes which were all tasty but the service gets an F. Â Our food arrived at a good pace, however getting the attention of our server after that was virtually impossible. Â It took 5-10 minutes for drink refills, and at least 10 more to get our bill. Â She would walk by our table several times, clearly showing preference for larger groups (we only had 2). Â My recommendation: only eat here if you have a group of 4 or more and/or have a lot of patience!
Review Source:Tapas Tapas Tapas...wonderful Tapas. Â They aren't like spectacular, and they certainly aren't for someone who is hungry. Â If you are hungry...maybe...go to another restaurant. Â If you are enjoying a good time with friends or family come to Gervais and Vine. Â I have had better Tapas before, but any of their meat courses are very well prepared. Â A decadent duck, fantastic fillet, and scrumptuos sirloin.
I personally do not want to watch someone prepare my food, and that is what happens at this restaurant. Â I also wish they had a risotto option or more pasta/rice options. Â All in all...they are okay
Have found some really nice new wines! I'm a 'Red Girl', and this lovely little place has introduced me to some reds I never even knew about! The selection of tapas is so cool - I have tried just about everything on the regular menu, and I have to say the olive plate and the cheese plate are my fav!!! I love the fact they have nightly specials (at really great prices), and the fact that the owner/chef emails us regulars with what's been going on in his awesome cooking/wine world and what's coming up at his 2 restaurants. A+++ I LOVE going there!
Review Source:I liked the ambiance and atmosphere but for the night we were there the service was a lot slower than most of SC and SC is a slow pace place. The manager did apologize and we did get some shrimp on the house but it seemed it was just our table that lacked service? Pretty packed for a Thursday night,
Review Source:I stopped in last night for the first time and had a delicious meal--one of the best I've had in Columbia.  I had a class of tempranillo and three different tapas: the tapas combo (with olives, spiced almonds, and manchego cheese), a balsamic salad with strawberries, and the Moorish  pork kebobs.  Everything was very good, but the manchego and pork kebobs were fantastic.  Total bill was $40 including tip.  I'll definitely be back and will bring others so that I can try a wider variety of tapas.
Review Source:This is a place in Columbia like, Solstice and Cellar on the Green, that people seem to think is amazing and creative but in truth, they are just good for Columbia. None of these places would survive in Chicago, NY, LA or even Kansas City.
The Good:
This is a wine bar first but the beer selection is certainly inspired. You have the usual suspects like Stella, Sierra Nevada... but there are interesting beer options as well like Rogue Hazlenut, Chimay and Sugar Hill Golden Ale. The atmosphere is dead on, it;s like your funky eclectic friend got rich and did the interior design. The wine list is very more than adequate, although I wold like to see more sparkling wine additions. The staff is super friendly and more than happy to share their opinions on the menu.
The Bad:
This isn't really bad, bad but the food is often so so and it seems to come out at very random times. I suspect their kitchen is tiny. If you order three tapas, they will come out one by one over the course of 30 minutes in whatever order the kitchen plates them. ie, your soup course might come out after the "main course" tapas. I find that things are often over cooked and the presentation could use some work. Again, I suspect the kitchen is the issue. There is passion in the food but you can only do so much when your kitchen is 6x9 and yo ur restaurant seats 100 people. Often enought the plate pairings don't make any sense: filet covered in feta and a balsamic reduction. It's a supremely confusing dish. Very often I find myself scrapping sauces and toppings off of my dish because the flavors are so muddled.
Items I have liked:
1. The goat cheese dip
2. White Truffle Fingerling Potatoes
3. Almost anything duck is solid here.
Interesting side note:
If you are looking to meet women of a certain age, this is kind of a cougar den.
Tried it for the first time the other night. We knew what we were getting into as far as portions go. The atmosphere was okay, the wine was cheaper at the grocery store(60% cheaper), food was mediocre at best. Service took forever and they forgot my dates salad. We tried to make a meal out of it (duck breast for me salad for her) so she got to go hungry. Not going back. Not impressed.
Review Source:We moved to Austin from Columbia, and Gervais & Vine is one of the VERY few things that make us miss SC. Â We've always had a good time when we went - frequently, a little too good :-) . Â It is a Tapas restaurant, so don't expect huge portions. Â Expect exceptional food & fantastic wine.
If they still offer the wine club - I cannot, repeat CANNOT recommend it highly enough - it took us from total wine n00bs to, well, we're still not experts, but dammit, we're certainly had fun learning!
This was a staple restaurant for us when we lived in Columbia. I have NEVER had anything bad here. Kristian and all of his staff are AWESOME! They are very knowledgeable about wine..duh AND the tapas is incredible! Try it all!!!
Nothing beats nice weather, sitting outside sipping some yummy wine while munching on some delectable tapas! Perfect!
Also of great mention is the Wine Club!! Two words..JOIN IT!
My lovely friends took me here for dinner the other night, and it was delightful. Â Cute little place! Â Great ambiance and they had a great little jazz duo playing as well. Â The staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu and drinks. Â The wine list was great and quite affordable (of course, I'm used to NYC prices). Â We started with a trio of spreads, The Roasted Garlic-Buttermilk Blue Cheese, Costa Brava (blend of Smoked Gouda, Shrimp and Bacon), and the She Crab. Â This started a heated debate of which one we all loved more, there were a lot of taste tests to make sure. Â The Coasta Bravo won hands down, but everything else was a close second.
For our dinner we had an array of delicious dishes. Â The scallop and pork plates of the day were fabulous. Â The Petit Filet Mignon with Feta and Balsamic Reduction was very nice. Â The Grilled Shrimp with Sun-dried Tomato Pesto and Garlic-Parmesan Fries with Spicy Aioli were both delish. Â The biggest disappointment for me was that the almonds on the Tapas Combo - Spiced Almonds, Olives, marinated Manchego Cheese, were just regular almonds and not marcona... which would have been more traditional and tastier.
We were too stuffed to desert, but I'll be sure to try it next time I'm in town!
This is easily one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I love the environment, the food, and the wine. I truly don't understand the complaints of some of the other posters. I have not personally tried the smoked salmon, but I have tried 20 other things on their menu and I loved all of them.
Service has always been good (out of the 25+ times that I've eaten there), but sometimes the wait can be a little long. Calling ahead to find out how busy they are is definitely recommended.
I'm not a scallops person, but they have quite a good reputation for their scallops.
Not a fan. Out of the 6 or 7 tapas we tried here, the only one I would recommend is the smoked salmon and, honestly, I don't think I've ever met smoked smoked salmon that I didn't like. I wasn't drinking, so I can't comment on the wine bar, but the food was salty enough to keep me chugging water the rest of the night. The crowd looked happy mingling and drinking, and that might be what this place is best suited for.
Review Source:I don't get tapas.
Despite the thoughtfully provided definition below, I just do not understand why the owners of this restaurant think I want to pay 10 bucks for a serving of something roughly the size of my thumbnail. They tell me to share with my friends, but y'all, they don't make forks small enough.
I have been to Gervais & Vine a few times due to friends graduating, having birthdays, wanting to appear older and more sophisticated, etc., and every time I finish another anemic tapas "meal," I feel like going out to Waffle House or something to finish the job.
Then again, I am an uncultured rube.
tapas
tapas [t? p?s] plural noun
Spanish snacks: small savory snacks that are often served as an appetizer along with alcoholic drinks, originally in Spain
[Mid-20th century. Plural of Spanish tapa, "cover, lid."]

It's eclectic, not necessarily Spanish. Â Menu of marvelous appetizer like servings priced at $7 to $9 each. Â This is one of our all time favorite places; we order several items and share, so we have a wide variety. Â Extensive wine menu as well as beer and mixed drinks. Â We have a hard time choosing from the dessert menu, want to say "One of each." Â Everything is excellent and well presented. Â The bar portion is more active and noisier; there is a back room which is quieter and more intimate.
