Delaney's is a very popular 5 Points institution and so therefore normally draws a crowd of 5 Points restaurant workers & college students as well as the odd civilian or two.
I've never been disappointed with the food but I've never been overwhelmed either. Its typical "Irish pub fare". The shephard's pie, whiskey steak sandwich, and fish & chips are all good enough to fill your stomach and leave you wobbling out happily enough. The prices are very reasonable for the portions and quality that you get. As far as drink goes, I do wish they change out their tap selection a bit more (or at all), but there are other places you can go for more boutique beers. (see below).
On specific nights of the week, Delaney's will have a line down the block but this normally occurs post-dinner time. At that point, its a free-for-all of freshly minted 21 year olds and the people who love them. If you don't fit this bill, you'd be wise to stroll down the block to their quieter, classier sister bar, the Speakeasy.
One big compliment I can pay to this place is that its very soccer friendly, especially for big events. When other places were too crowded during this summer's Euro Cup, Delaney's could be counted on to at least have the game on their huge projection screens.
