McFadden Art Glass rocks my world. But the food at the Glass Grill is just okay. "Dive bar" is a good description. I had a fantastic time blowing glass with the way talented folks (and their happy doggie!) behind the restaurant. Then just stopped here for lunch. Nothing special, but it hit the spot.
Review Source:When I walked in, I thought I was in the wrong place after viewing their website. Â The actual bar/restaurant and the layout of the website definitely don't match. Â The Glass Grill is kinda divey, which is not the impression you get from their site. Â In the end, I like divey places and they had affordable and good food and drinks and I will definitely be back. Their turkey club was enormous and had real turkey on it. Â I'd like to come back and check out the glass blowing part which I believe may be more in line with their website.
Review Source:1 star is for the restaurant / bar - not the adjoining McFadden Art Glass, which is awesome. Â The bar is loud (deafening when there's a DJ), the waitstaff is inattentive, there's not enough glass (which is the whole draw), and the food is bad. Â Go see glass demonstration and then get dinner somewhere else.
Review Source:In all fairness, I did not go during one of their glass events, so I had a fairly negative experience. I ordered the pasta order, which consisted of penne pasta and a very bland marinara meat sauce. The food is less than mediocre, so I would skip the grill if all you're looking for is a good meal.
Review Source:We came here for the Date and Demo Night, and I had also bought a groupon. Â I had called ahead because of having a party of 5; when we arrived and stated we had a reservation, the frazzled bartender said they didn't take reservations and had no idea who we were. Â We thankfully decreased to four, and then were put in a back corner while the bartender tried to find us more chairs. Â (She did boot some people out to a high-top so we could have the four-seater. Â She was very prompt in her service, cleaning, chairs, drinks, etc.) Â This was at 7:30pm.
By 8:30pm, we still had not received our crab dip appetizers, and when they did show up, it was not "famous" as they said. Â (My friend ended up starting to eat the bread I baked for her because of how hungry she was.) Â It was smattered with crab, but was mostly cheese, and did not have a lot of seasoning. Â The bread bowl was not a bowl; they basically cut the top off of it and serve. Â The website lies; there is no advertisement about their specials and we were originally charged for the full amount for the appetizers until one of the guys found the website on his phone and showed them the BOGO price, which they then took off the appetizer and the groupon. Â Also, the wine was just horrible though they had $10 bottle specials, it wasn't even worth that.
Our actual waitress was just nasty. Â Apparently, the bartender took our drink orders and put in the crab dips, but when they didn't come out, our "waitress" did not pay attention to us the entire night. Â She apologized once, but looked more angry than apologetic. Â The bartender came over and apologized, saying that the entire restaurant's order (???) came out at the same time, which is why it was taking us AN HOUR to get crab dip. Â The place cleared out before we finally got our appetizers. Â Our burger orders also took forever to get. Â The burger itself was fine, but the bun was cold and the condiments were haphazard over the buns. Â It was not delicious or worth the $10 I spent on it.
At 9:55pm, we finally left this place, two and a half hours after we sat down. Â We walked over to the glass studio, but had missed the demonstration and went home. Â WARNING: The glass studio is not affiliated with the restaurant, so don't call them if you want the food.
Actually, don't call the restaurant at all. Â My party and I agreed we may eat first somewhere else then stop by for the demonstration, but otherwise, we were never going back into the Glass Grill for this type of service.
Only good thing I can say, and the only reason they get even one star, is for the bartender we had. Â She took care of us and was apologetic of the entire situation; I just don't know why her harebrained coworker didn't see us. Â At one point, the waitress sat at the table next to us exhausted (assuming they were regulars?) but didn't look at us to even take our drink order.
I can't speak for the glass studio except the man who had the clipboard stated he would wait for us if we wanted to blow glass. Â At that point, we just wanted to leave (it was already 10:10pm and there was an hour wait), but stated we could come back.
I am so disappointed in this; I had my heart set on a night out with good company, some drinks, and maybe my own blown-glass paperweight. Â This restaurant just shot it all to hell. Â I knew we were eating in a bar and not a high-class restaurant, but the quality of food and waiter service was just atrocious.
This place was great! Â My girlfriend and I went for their "date night" and we had a blast. Â First there was a glass blowing demonstration. Â The staff there is very talented. Â Then the customers got to try it out for themselves if they wanted. Â Lastly, we ate dinner at the Glass Grill bar next door and the food was pretty good. Â We also got to walk through the glass gallery and wow... Some of the pieces in there were just amazing.
I would have given 5 stars, but what we thought was a restaurant was actually a bar. Â And we thought the music was too loud for a place that size.
But overall a great experience. Â I'm sure we'll be going back!
Had my first deep fried pickle here. Yeah, delicious. It brought me back, and I ate a lot more food the next time round... The crab dip is good, but they really rip you off: it's served in a bread bowl, but they barely cut out the bread; it's basically served atop the bread.
The burgers and wings are just above average, or the Glass Grill would get 3 stars. And other than the glass blowing, this place doesn't have that stand-out menu item that would warrant the 5th star!
It's cool to head out back and watch the glass blowing - just take a beer with you 'cause it gets toasty!
The people are pretty cool so we keep coming back. I'll update this review after I go back in a weekend or two.
