The best! My boyfriend and I stayed here during our trip up and down the coast of CA. This place was definitely the highlight of our trip. The grounds are beautiful and spacious. We loved feeding the chickens (every guest gets chicken feed in their room) and hanging out with the llamas. There were several trails from the property that guests could take to explore the beautiful outdoors. The staff was friendly and helpful and put in the extra effort to make our stay special. The view was also beautiful. Our room was unique and spacious--and in the morning our breakfast was delivered through a rotating bookcase! The eggs from breakfast were fresh from the chickens on site. Honestly, probably my best B&B/hotel experience ever!

I'm about a month late getting to this review.

We had a wonderful stay at the Inn.  It's very peaceful to sit outside and gaze beyond the llamas out to the ocean in the evening. We got the budget room, and it was bigger than we thought and charmingly decorated. There was a little bag of chicken feed to toss to the chickens if you like.

It was nice to be around the animals in such a peaceful setting. We really needed to get away and relax, and this was a great spot.  When we arrived, we were greeted with free wine and a delicious appetizer.

Breakfast features the property chickens' own eggs. It's hard to describe how good breakfast was! And it's delivered to your room, although we decided to eat in the common area so we could see the ocean. We had it all to ourselves! (All the other rooms have ocean views, I believe.)

There was a carafe of port and treats available for guests all night. The staff was friendly and courteous, and they paid close attention to thoughtful details. They have a wine bar(n) there, too!

If you stay on a Monday as we did, dinner isn't served on site, but they provide a free shuttle to take you to a decent place nearby. Apparently, they serve amazing meals other days of the week.

I bet this place would be great for kids because it resembles a well-manicured mini farm. It's not far from the beach, either, although I think the main appeal is really the grounds.

It's definitely a place for a special occasion. And it sure is romantic!

    Enjoy.

Our first trip to Mendocino - Glendeven Inn is very nice. Rooms are comfortable, and the property is interesting - lamas, chickens, trails, etc. Evening wine and appetizers were good, but I wish the wine changed nightly or we had wines to choose from. Breakfast was good but lacked meat (bacon, sausage, etc) - for any meat lovers an FYI. No cell phone service, but they do have excellent free WiFi and free landline phones to use in an emergency. The Farm to Table dinners were cancelled right before our arrival, so that was a huge disappointment....since one of the reasons we chose Glendeven was because of the dinners.

    MOST EXCELLENT

My wife and I stayed at Glendeven Inn over our anniversary.  From the very beginning, it was obvious we had found a jewel.  The staff was very helpful and welcoming.  Our room was spacious and well appointed.  It was a suite with comfortable reclining chairs in front of a fireplace.  We had a small porch to sit on overlooking a small herd of llamas that the owner has and the ocean in the distance.
Breakfast is delivered each morning to our room as well as the San Francisco newspaper.
The Inn is close to Mendocino and is a short walk to the Pacific Ocean.
Some days they have a "Farm to Table" dinner that you can sign up for.
I am trying to find something that I do not like about our stay to make this review more believable, but I can not find anything to fault with the Inn.

My first trip to Mendocino, and of course, first stay at the Glendeven Inn. I was very pleasantly surprised. As others have noted, the little amenities and incredible attention to detail and personal touches really makes this place a wonderful find and a great place to stay for a weekend relaxing getaway. The 24/7 access to coffee/tea and many jars of baked goods downstairs was really appreciated, and the daily in-room breakfast was tasty and an added bonus. Not to mention the view was fantastic (part ocean, part farm, and part llama), with a spectacular canvas of millions of stars visible from the window on a clear night. Downtown Mendocino is a quick 5 minute drive away, so pretty conveniently located as well.

I'd say the only major con was the size of the bed. It was listed as a queen, but probably felt more like a full in the room I was in. My travel companion wasn't able to make it so I (fortunately) had plenty of room for myself, but it would have been a tad bit cozier than I would have preferred if I had to share it with someone.

But overall, a really great place. I'd definitely stay there again.

We had wonderful stay at the Glendeven!  Everything had its own personal touch from the designated parking space with your name on it, to the yummy chocolate brownies and hand written note  that greet you in your room, and the delicious morning breakfast delivered to your room in the morning!  We also loved the beautiful grounds and feeding the chickens!  This was our first attempt at a B&B and we were thoroughly impressed.  We will be back for sure!  The only negative I would say is that in our room the were some cobwebs/dust in the corners of the room and on some of the light fixtures but that's an easy fix and would not turn us away from visiting again!  Thanks Glendeven for making this couples overnight getaway relaxing and special!

You are totally pampered from the minute you arrive until your departure. It's a majestic setting.  The rhododendrons were in full bloom - all colors - and the garden is amazing. You wake to the sweet sound of Eurasian collared doves and Acorn Woodpeckers in the trees.  Breakfasts are delicious - brought right to your room - and the innkeepers and staff are friendly and helpful. You are only a short drive to the town of Mendocino but actually you really don't want to leave.

Best bed and breakfast we ever had. The owner John he is a great guy. My children did not want to leave the place.
I will recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to Mendocino area, or is passing by.

Cannot recommend this place enough, we stayed here 3 nights in March and had a great time. We stayed in the bay view room and had great ocean view from our balcony (note that the hotel isn't right on the ocean but more like a 10 min. walk) John is a great host and helped us with daytrips in the area and winery recommendations, there's chicken feed in your room for you to use and guests are invited to feed the lamas in the afternoon as well, it's like an adult playground :) There are complimentary cookies and afternoon wine and snacks and you come back to your room the fireplace is always set up for you to use. Just a fantastic time all around

My friend and I did a girls' weekend away from hubbies & kids and the Glendeven Inn was a dream come true! I can't wait to come back--maybe for a mother/daughter retreat before my oldest leaves for college? We stayed in the Pinewood Suite, a gorgeous & spacious corner suite with a fireplace and cozy wing chairs, with a view of the llamas pasture as well as the ocean.  I can't say enough good things about the food, from the breakfasts delivered right to our room each morning, to the happy hour with local wines, to the treats out all day & night in the Farmhouse lounge to the amazing Farm-to-Table dinner we treated ourselves to on Saturday night.  We were seated with 6 total strangers who were really interesting to get to know-how nice of the Glendeven to provide us with new friends!
As amazing as the food was, the ambiance & service may even top it! The owner John is charming and delightful, his staff friendly and accommodating, and the animals on the property --the chickens, llamas, and dog--made us welcome. There was a little cloth bag of chicken feed in our room upon arrival and we fed the chickens by hand, so sweet!
Every detail is meticulously covered in this beautiful inn, a real standout in an area that has many fine inns. I can't imagine staying anywhere else, at least until I have stayed in every room at the Glendeven!

I stayed here with my hubby for a romantic Christmas getaway and loved everything about it!  The room was very cozy with a nice fireplace and two chairs right in front of it, a nice deck outside that looks out to where the llamas are.  The breakfast delivered to the room was very yummy and so were the cookies served all day long and the hor d'oeuvre and wine served during the happy hour.  I loved feeding the chickens and the llamas, the proximity to the ocean, the trails accessible directly from the property and the very nice staff.  Will definitely be back!!

We were told about Glendeven by some friends who came here a while ago for a romantic getaway. We stayed 2 nights in the Garret. The setting is wonderful-old house situated on acres of land close to the ocean. It was nice to wake up in the morning and see the llamas being let out of their pen, with the coast just beyond the field and birds gathering seed from a bird feeder near the fence. We even saw about 20 quails taking advantage of the seed being dropped by bigger birds-a rare sighting of these shy birds.

We took advantage of the cookies downstairs and coffee & tea. We also attended the farm to table dinner. I was a bit disappointed in the dinner-I had ordered steak and my 3 small pieces were tough and hard to chew. Sitting around a table with a bunch of other couples you don't really want to be the lone dissenter but we ran into one of the other couples the next day and they were also disappointed in the food, so I guess it wasn't just me. The husband said his was fine, however. We were also supposed to receive a dessert of pear cobbler with lemon curd and warm vanilla cream-the cobbler had lemon curd on top but no vanilla cream. Not sure what happened there.

The only things (other than tough meat) I would change would be some curtains on the 3 windows in the Garret-I felt like there wasn't a ton of privacy. The bed was also not super comfortable. The pillows were nice but I don't know if it was the mattress or the old bed frame-something gave me a backache both nights and I didn't feel rested when I woke up in the morning.

The room itself was very quiet-I had been warned to bring earplugs but as we didn't have any shared walls with other rooms, this was not an issue.

Windy roads to get there, but well worth the drive! Comfy stay in Etta's Suite... so much history shared in her diaries dated all the way back from the 1800's in Maine! Great ammenities, wood burning fireplace with an endless supply of wood, delicious snacks downstairs (sea salt rice krispy treats & Chocolate Oatmeal no-bakes with hot coffee/tea), patio over-looking our new llama friends, morning sunday paper, BEAUTIFUL grounds of friendly chicken/hen, dahlias, and edibles... not to mention the delicious hot 9am breakfast... homemade eggs and veggies... so much respect and thanks to Gelendeven for a restful & relaxing stay in Mendocino!

Where do I begin.. we had a wonderful time. The place is simply magical! From our comfy room to the daily hot farm breakfasts, to the llamas and John the inn keeper; everything was perfect. Perfect setting, great environment to relax, lovely wine bar(n), cute products for sale and yummy farm to table dinner. The only minor complaint we had was the walls were thin and we could hear our downstair neighbors talk/snore.  However overall, fantastic trip! We loved it. Can't wait to revisit.

Loved the landscaping, walks to surrounding state parks on the property, beautiful view from the room, very helpful and sweet innkeeper, delicious food and wine, even natural soaps and lotions - this was a really lovely spot to stay.  We did the farm-to-table dinner and the chef was talented and personable.  One drawback: in the pinewood room the sound really travels.  We could hear the snoring above us as though the upstairs guest was sharing our bed!  Only thing (other than sound proofing) that would make the visit more ideal for me would be a big soaking tub (rooms are shower-only).

My girlfriend and I were delighted by the 4 nights we spent here recently. Glendeven is a beautiful, historic property, scrupulously restored and maintained. We stayed in the Eastlin Suite in the original farmhouse. It consists of a spacious bedroom furnished with antiques and a smaller sitting room with an ocean view and gas fireplace. Very comfortable and cozy. Delicious breakfasts served in-room (for example: bacon and artichoke frittata with fresh hot croissants, fresh-squeezed OJ, and yogurt with fresh berries and almonds).

The inn is located about a 5-minute drive south of the village of Mendocino. The property has extensive grounds with a pasture for the resident llamas and a chicken coop. Hiking trails accessible directly from the property lead into the redwood forest or along the rugged coastline.

I should mention that the bathroom in Eastlin is a somewhat small and although that wasn't a problem for us, a person of larger stature than myself (5' 11", 200 lbs.) would likely find it a bit cramped.

I won't go on and on about how wonderful Glendeven is because all of the other Yelper's already did.  I will say that the little things really matter and this place nails it!  Mike and John (I hope I remembered their names correctly) are wonderful!  Although the place is VERY nice, it doesn't have a pretentious feel to it.  We felt comfortable in our jeans and t-shirt garb, even at the wine hour.  I really enjoyed going out to feed the llamas, even though they were a little intimidating.  The grounds are beautiful, including access to a great trail to the ocean cliff only 15 minutes away.  Thank you Glendeven for making my birthday weekend something special!

    To Tehachapi! Cheers!

Just a fabulous weekend in a wonderful setting.  What serendipity to find (a) that Glendeven is located directly across the street from the former Rachel's Inn, location of deeply romantic scenes for us going back 25 years, and (b) that John and Mike are the new owners of the very same former Rachel's Inn, which is now so much in need of a thoughtful, caring resuscitation.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Bay Loft, with views to the water, llama pasture, woodpeckers, and chickens.  Just a lovely, lovely weekend.

Glendeven Inn is a perfect getaway from the fast-paced, always connected life that is SF/Silicon Valley especially if you're a nature lover. The fact that you can't get cell phone connection here says a lot (don't worry, there is free wifi and if you need to make a call the town of Mendocino is only 5 minutes drive away).

Room: We stayed in the spacious Carriage House which is attached to the Wine Bar(n). with separate living room and bedroom, each with its own wood burning fireplace. The couch in the living room is not all that comfortable but the bed is heavenly with the world's most comfortable, soft, silky sheets. Made me want to stay in bed all day. There's also a set of double doors that open up to a small balcony for fresh air. Only thing I wished they had was a tub, standing shower only in this room.

Breakfast in bed: Every morning at 9am, a basket of homemade breakfast goodies is delivered to the door. Hot coffee, fresh squeeze orange juice, hot out of the oven cornbread, cheesy frittatas, and more. Guaranteed to be more than you can finish. All in the comfort of your room. Probably my favorite part of our stay, right up there with the sheets. ;)

Farmhouse: Lots of comfy couches that overlook the llamas with a view to the ocean. Best part is that they have freshly made snacks all day like brownies, rice crispie treats, and cornbread along with hot coffee and tea.

Wine & appetizer hour: You definitely don't want to miss this. Perfect opportunity to try to local Anderson Valley wine and homemade appetizers made by the innkeeper. And of course, meet the lovely caretakers of this beautiful property.

Animals: The llamas and chickens are a nice touch, made us feel like we were staying on a farm. We didn't quite make friends with either species, but good to have them around.

Access to trails: The property is beautiful. There are a lots of options for hiking, including some easy strolls that take you out to amazing ocean views.

Glendeven is truly a luxurious gem, definitely on our list of places to stay next time we're in Mendocino (hopefully soon!).

Let me just say, my boyfriend & I were sad to leave this place before we had even checked out. The Glendeven deserves every bit of it's 5 star rating and then some. There is not a single detail that John, the innkeeper, has overlooked. The grounds were absolutely beautiful - I couldn't get over how beautiful all of the blooming flowers were. We also really enjoyed the fact that they put a little bag of chicken feed in your room (along with a handwritten welcome note and fresh baked treat) so that you can go out and feed the chickens (they will eat right out of your hand!). They had a neat little garden that you could walk through and it was fun to see the llamas out grazing in their pasture. In addition to the amazing rooms and grounds, all of the staff were so welcoming, friendly, and always willing to give you recommendations on things to do or restaurants in town.

The food at Glendeven deserves a 5 star rating of it's own. They deliver breakfast to your door every morning at 9:00am and I think that was probably my favorite part of every day. Fresh, homemade baked goods, farm fresh eggs, fresh squeezed orange juice, and coffee or tea just the way you like it. It really couldn't have been any better. We also did the Farm to Table dinner on Saturday night, which I would definitely recommend. The food and wine pairings were great and it was interesting to get to meet some of the other people that were staying at the Inn. Oh and I can't forget the coffee, tea, and fresh baked goodies that are available 24 hours in the farm house dining room. I'll admit, my boyfriend and I had a moment of weakness where we snuck over to the farm house at 11:00 at night to get decaf coffee and some of their amazing sea salt rice crispy treats and cookies (did I mention this was while wearing the comfy robes that were in our room?)!

I haven't stayed anywhere else in Mendocino, but I can't imagine it getting any better than this. This is one of those places that you want to tell everyone about because it was so amazing, but you want to keep it a secret at the same time because you want it to be available the next time you call to book a getaway!

Our next trip to the Glendeven Inn can't come soon enough!

The Glendeven Inn is just as beautiful as the pictures show. It is nature at its best.
Everyone else has described the accommodations, so I will describe our experience with the Glendeven inn Saturday Dinner with Wine Pairing.

The Dinner was EXCELLENT! The Saturday Dinner was mouthwatering! The chefs were excellent.  It was a great idea for John to have this, because we were running out of places to have a nice dinner. We were quite happy that we did not have to drive home after drinking!

Aside form the amazing service, delectable food, great wine and conversations with other guests, John and the chefs, we take home with us the experience that taking the time to step back/out of our busy schedule to care for yourself is most important.

I started this review for the Wine Bar(n), but looks like it's been combined with the Glendeven Inn where it's located.

The Wine Bar(n) is in the building with the Reception with the staff doing double duty of serving wine & checking in guests.

Over 40 local wines and a handful of beers. The bring out some bread, but you can also order meat & cheese plates.

The grounds are gorgeous so I recommend a table by the window (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/8I78nvs-ZRamEXRS-0p4bQ?select=2TXoHf37wHxVw4zjdSytsg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)

Everything that has been written about Glendeven Inn is true!  It is as nice as any 5 star accomodation I have enjoyed worldwide, plus it has llamas and chickens!  Our stay over 4th July 2011 was just beautiful, relaxing and romantic.  We stayed in Etta's suite, which has excerpts from her diary from the late 1800s.  She was the middle daughter of  the settler who built the home and tehn lived in it to her old age.  The innkeepers and staff are so beyond what you would hope for and anticipate your every need.  The food is delicious - I recommend the farmhouse dinners on Friday, Ssturday or Sunday.

Not sure what else to say - the price is a little high but the value is unbeatable.  We will absolutley tay at Glendeven in the future!

Oh, be sure to go on a sunset walk across the street.

Comfort, elegance, and excellent personalized service await you at Glendeven. We regularly make driving excursions up Hwy 1 because we love the beauty of the coast so much. Glendeven Inn was on our list of places to check out because of its location and amenities.

When you arrive you're greeted like family. Personal touches include a handwritten greeting card in your room and warm chocolate brownies on your sitting table. We stayed in both the Bay Loft and Briar Rose Suites. The Briar Rose is our favourite room complete with your own porch and beautiful french doors which open out onto an ocean view in the distance.

The grounds are immaculate and feel more like an english countryside cottage rather than an American B&B. Take the time to enjoy the daily wine tasting and small plates. Pet the llamas and feed the chickens with the small bag of feed left in your room for just such a purpose.

If you're a foodie, breakfast will amaze you. On the two days we stayed at Glendeven both mornings we were treated to farm fresh 5 star dishes delivered to our door by 9am in a delightful picnic basket. Fresh squeezed juices, fresh eggs (remember the chickens?), fresh herbs from the garden, and to die for pastries.

Enjoy every nook and cranny of the Inn. In addition to their wonderful hospitality, we took John up on a recommendation to have dinner at Pacific Tapas just 5 minutes south on Hwy 1. That dining experience alone paired with our amazing stay at Glendeven has now made us regulars. Thank you for a memorable stay.

Planning a trip to Mendocino? Look no further than Glendeven Inn for lodging. I love the fact that there are no in-room phones or TV's. For those needing connectivity to the outside world WIFI is provided in your room and adjacent community rooms.

Theres a reason why GI was voted in for being in the top 10 Inn's for the US, exceptional service from start to finish. When you arrive, you're greeted with knowledgeable staff to introduce you to the Inn's amenities and surrounding businesses. A note from the owner is tied to a vase of fresh cut flowers with a wax seal. A real nice touch.

The grounds are manicured and well kept with Llama's grazing in one of two large pastures. Most rooms have water and white water views. Mine was fantastic from the balcony. A great place to have morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner.

Around 5:30 each night, guests are invited to the reception area/gallery for complimentary wine and cheese plate. Selection of original art is tasteful and adds to the views and surroundings. The best word I can used to describe Glendeven is balance. Every detail from customer service to amenities to food/wine was perfect. Staff was able to secure dinner reservations at peak time when waits were more than one hour. Made me feel like a rock star.

Breakfast is delivered to your door promptly at 9am. Fresh juice, baked goods and egg dish with coffee. All was delicious.

Dinner at Glendeven Inn = +15
I had one of the best meals of my life here that rivaled the food that is found at The Post Ranch Inn at Big Sur. Dinner service is provided three nights a week and I was lucky to have stayed here when the guest chef created the most amazing dinner I have had in years.

Starter: yogurt encased within a thin membrane with a special salt that must enter your mouth quickly or the membrane may burst. This followed with a glass of Scharffen Berger Brute was unforgettable.

Soup was amazing, once again a balance of flavors in perfect harmony, served up with a crisp white.

Salad of marinated portobello mushroom and fennel salad with a floral  gewurztraminer - yummy and balanced.

Then something really special: shaved ice with pomegranate and some other juice that escapes my mind with minced fruit: delightful.

Main Course: I opted for the snapper set atop a puree of potato and roasted squash. Tender, flaky and cooked to perfection. Others had a hanger steak with a froth of celery that was so beautiful. This was served with a Baxter Syrah that was amazing.

Desert consisted of a chocolate/caramel tart again with a special salt and a great pour of desert wine.

I was fortunate to be seated next to the Baxter winemaker. Real nice folks. During dinner I was able to learn much about the different varieties in the region and what years tended to be best for several varieties.

Before checking out I purchased several of the wines that I enjoyed the night before. All are sold at the same price that each winery sells for.

Make sure you take some time to read guest books that have accumulated over the years in your room. Each is a small snapshot in time and what guest felt and did during their stay. I see these books as being a great start to a short story covering the history of any room.

Glendeven is world class lodging and dining. I highly recommend them!

Oh my, after our previous stay in Sonoma, I had been spoiled and was not willing to settle for anything but equally as good or better, but wasn't able to spend a fork load either. I did some shopping around and after speaking with the owner John, I ended up choosing here, based on the right price and his helpfulness.

It was just what we needed and then some, drove up in the later afternoon during high winds and rain. Checked in promptly, and made our way to our retreat. Walked into our room the Garret which had windows all around the walls that naturally lit up the room, with a view of the green pastures, llamas, and ocean.

The thoughtfulness to everything and attention to detail was what really blew me away. When first making reservations, John asked if there was a special occasion for our stay, and I just said my friend and I are just having a girls getaway for our birthdays. He took the initiative to give us a complimentary bottle of champagne that was chilled waiting for us on a bed of ice. Lovely!

Then, there is duck/chicken feed in a little satchel attached with a tag, which explains what it is and who to feed. Amazing! Anything with animals and you've got me good!

As everyone says, there indeed are llamas, and you can't forget Roxy the cat. She's a cutie.

Another nice tool, is having all the menus from the restaurants in Mendocino and Fort Bragg (next town north 9 miles) in a binder. Really makes choosing the right place/price a breeze. He even offered to make reservations for us. I found that another thoughtful thing to think of.

There is much more to the room, even though it is just a simple loft. There are books to read, and old journal entries that are filled out by prior guests of the room. They date back to the 80's! There should be a ready to use one for you to fill out about your experience or what you'd like to say to pass on to the next guest. Quite interesting writings, some short and sweet, some complex and deep. It definitely keeps you occupied.

There is a little cd player/alarm clock with most classical music cd's to add some extra charm to the room.

The bathroom products are outstanding, and I know this from experience. The brand EO sells at the natural health food store I work at, and it's NOT cheap. ($12 for a 16oz or so of body wash). I could tell their attention to quality was at its finest.

After slipping into soft sheets, I was excited for breakfast at 9 a.m to our room and the morning view.

Breakfast was mind blowing. 3 course meal and you can't forget the fresh squeezed organic orange juice and your other choice of beverage. I had the jasmine tea. It was full leaf in a french press ready for me to pour hot water into to steep. Did I accidentally check into a high class tea inn also? I'm a tea fanatic and was so impressed. The egg dish had a fluffy pastry around it, and some black forest type ham mixed in with the egg. Can't forget the thick greek yogurt laying on a bed of honey and pistachios. How about the baked succulent organic apple with dried fruits and nutts on it. Warm and tender in my mouth. The time put into this breakfast was marvelous, and how perfect it all compliments each other.

Before checking out, I wanted to take advantage of the property. Asked John if I could pet the llamas and he was so kind as to offer to go with us, and even take our pictures. He chatted with us for a good while and I thank him for his genuinity and time.

You can't go wrong with this place. It is pricey, but well worth it. The breakfast delivered to your front door at 0900 is great. The customer service from the man and women who run it are second to none.

Very pretty and secluded feeling while you are there. You can walk to the ocean in 5 minutes along a nice trail. If you stay here and decide to eat at the Little River Inn there is a free car service that will take you and bring you back .

After writing this review, I received a credit card bill in which the Glendeven charged us seven times for the room we stayed in.
When we called them, we were told they could do nothing, and were not very pleasant or helpful.  So, I had the credit card company cancel the extra charges.
Although the hotel was nice, this really soured our experience. I don't know if we'd go back, which is sad.

I just spent the last four nights here with my wife and had a really nice stay.  We stayed in the East Farmington room and got the web-reservation special.  I greatly enjoyed the grounds - lots of old growth trees, birds, and llamas.  The owners wisely used gravel for the driveways instead of pavement; I felt like I was relaxing at my grandparent's house in the country instead of at a generic resort.

The inn delivers a great breakfast daily to your door - no communal table or awkward conversation with other inn members.  I also really enjoyed reading on the East Farmington porch, watching the llamas and ocean.  There is yoga available every morning, hiking trails nearby, and wine tastings in the evening.  Highly recommended.

Just spent Friday and Saturday night here with my wife, and I couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. I notice that others' experiences here are the same as mine... it met and truly exceeded our expectations.  We stayed in the Bay View suite with gorgeous views of the well-maintained grounds, green llama pasture, and the coast stretching south of us. I was really impressed how well-appointed and maintained the rooms and grounds are. So clean, comfortable, and beautiful.

Not even the slight rain could damper our experience. In fact we totally embraced it and went on to explore the property and the headlands. When the sun did appear, it did so in grand fashion. Obviously the owners do not control the weather but I speak more to the surrounding beauty you find yourself in and how pleased we were with our hosts.

We enjoyed the complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine each evening and even did some local wine tasting at their wine bar. Which was outstanding! We discovered a lot about the Anderson Valley wines from their wide selection augmented by John's local knowledge.

During our stay John happened to be our primary point of contact because not only did he bring us our morning breakfast but he was so available to chat with and ask questions about the area. I really enjoyed feeding the llamas with John and coming nose-to-nose with "Dolly Llama"... quite literally. It was like a Hongi exchange (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bayofislandscampervans.co.nz%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fnew-zealand-hongi.jpg&s=3356f50960b0d4d4aa12aedfced3a36e8be67fc71ea3c3758a422587b21eb229" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.bayofislandsc…</a>). Very memorable. I kind of feel we got lucky in choosing this Inn on our first visit. I hope that others can see these reviews and be so lucky too.

***Actually four-and-three-quarter stars! They just don't let you do that.***

~Also, though many reviews mention no cell coverage, they give free long distance calls with your stay! Pretty much covers that, with no cellphone interruptions! ~

My wife and I stayed here on a "getaway-from-financial-angst" trip to Mendocino. (Don't think the irony of that statement is lost on me...)
We decided on Glendeven Inn after checking the website, and I will say that the website, as beautiful as it shows Glendeven to be, does not do it enough justice. It is exceptional in many ways, not the least of which would be the helpfulness and attentiveness of the owners and staff.

Before we even showed up, John (one of the owners) accommodated us in a big way that made not only our stay less stressful, but the day after as well. (Due to the fact that such an accommodation can be troublesome for John and Mike, I'll refrain from details but, suffice it to say that we appreciated it immensely and it seems typical of their nature having now been there).
On our arrival, it was obvious how much pride they take in the inn; the grounds are extremely well kept, the Wine Bar[n] is well appointed and nicely done, they offer cool little extras on the grounds like hangin' with the Llamas and feeding the (appreciative and anxious) chickens who provide guests with breakfast eggs in return.

The inn's proximity to Van Damme State Park is great for the access to local trails, both to the park and to the beach and cliff areas nearby. Mendocino is just up the road, three minutes away. Our room (the Carriage House) was wonderful, with the only exceptions being the noise from the blower on the fireplace and the sketchy radio reception. Everything else was great.

Breakfast consisted of eggs benedict in a flaky pastry shell with eggs from the aforementioned chickens, served with fresh fruit with a light honey-lime syrup, orange scones (awesome!), fresh coffee in carafes (at check-in, they'd asked our preferences for morning drinks - coffee, decaf, tea, etc., we ordered reg and decaf coffee), and a bottle of fresh squeezed orange juice. All very good!

We happened in on the Monday movie night, which in our case offered The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, great old comedy and, like their other movie offerings, having ties to Mendocino and the local area. Comfortable viewing in the Wine Bar[n] while enjoying our beverages of choice.

All in all, this would have been five stars had it not been for the fireplace noise and radio reception, but I should say it wasn't that bad, just kept it from being the "As Good As It Gets" that five stars requires on Yelp. I'd say four and three quarters or more.

We will be back, and will stay for two nights next time so we have time to check out more of the place. Being an abalone diver well versed in this area, I look forward to hitting the trails and relaxing through our next visit.

John, Mike, Hali and the staff that served us all go highly recommended by us!

Wow. I love this BB inn. It is such a peaceful retreat... and with the right room, you get a beautiful view! We stayed in the Bay Loft... and it had an AMAZING view of the llama field and the ocean. Every morning, we'd wake up and look out the large window facing the ocean and feel like we were looking at a painting.

The owners are very friendly. The cocktail hour is a nice treat with some yummy snacks. Across the street is a trail that leads to the cliffs, which is definite must-do when the weather is good.

Be sure to feed the chickens and the llamas! We got a bag of chicken feed in our room when we checked in. I recommend the chickens on the side of the building not facing the ocean. For some reason, they're more friendly and feisty!

And the best part... the breakfast. My husband and I hardly eat breakfast, but when we were here, we'd eagerly wake up to get our hot basket of breakfast delivered to your door.

I can't wait to come here again. :)

PS. Be sure to sign the guestbook... and read some of the previous entries!

Celebrated a 7Y Anniversary with my wife at Glendeven's Sea Ridge Cottage this weekend.  Located about 7 miles south of the inn itself, the cottage is a 1 br/ba house sitting on a rolling bluff above the Navarro River.  With spectacular views of the Pacific and the quiet isolation that is unique to California's North Coast, this is 'the' place for those who prefer a little more room to move.

Relax on the back porch (weather provided), lounge in the hot tub, sit by the fireplace or just lie in bed.  There isn't a bad view from any room in the house.  Couple this with a sweet sounding , iPod ready, stereo and you'll be dancing around to your own personal soundtrack during your stay.  Turn it up a little, the neighbors 500 feet away probably will never know.

The kitchen is fully equipped to dine in (sans basic spices or any sharpened knives), though with so many great restaurant options around, you might only dirty the french press and a few (too many) wine glasses.

Dont forget to swing by the Glendeven Inn itself.  John and his team are great and the Wine Bar[n] is a perfect stop while exploring the coast.  Lots of incredible local wines coupled with some really over-the-top cheese and charcuterie options.

    Super experience. Highly recommended.

We hit up the Wine Bar[n] recently while staying at the Glendeven Inn during an amazing weekend stay. We popped in for happy hour to meet the adorable and ridiculously sweet innkeeper John. He introduced us to some amazing Anderson Valley wines including on Chenin Blanc so good I had him ship a case to my sister in Michigan.

Cute space, friendly service, delicious wine... I'm pretty sure the wine barn is open to everyone, not just staying at the Inn, so if you're in Mendocino you should check it out! I bet John will even let you play with his llamas and chickens.

LOVED this bed and breakfast! Beautiful views and peaceful property.
Service was great and breakfast to die for. We were served scrambled eggs, fresh baked blueberry muffins and fresh squeezed orange juice.

They also have a lovely wine bar. We tried the Husch Chenin Blanc, and we loved it so much, we stopped by the Husch winery on the way home and bought a few bottles!
If you're looking for a quick getaway, I'd highly recommend this place.

An interesting bed&breakfast. The front building (lobby, lounge & gallery) is very modernized. Art-deco. Polished. On the other hand, the farmhouse (bedrooms) is very dainty. Florals. Pastels. It boggled me because the two buildings lacked cohesion.

Despite the slight sensation of time-warping, the inn has its charms.
    -friendly staff
-complimentary breakfast (in bed) @ 9am
    -complimentary wine & snack @ 5:30-6:30 daily
-chicken farm. those feisty little peckers are so entertaining!!
-llamas. they're not-very-goodlooking creatures. and they don't do much.
-fireplace @ the farmhouse living room. wonderful for those chilly evenings

the only complaints i have: flies & lack of cellphone reception

Somebody should tell the Verizon guy to get his peeps out to Little River errr Mendocino!!! Aside from a few square feet out on the headlands, this place is a big ZERO for reception. I'm not Eric Clapton and this isn't MTV so it took me about 24 hours to get used to the idea that we were unplugged.

That being said, what a great place to disconnect and unwind.

    Pros:
Glendeven's staff is friendly and knowledgeable. John is the new owner (a year now) and he is working hard to ensure that the same high quality lodging is available to new guests.

When we wanted to eat some good food, John suggested Le Petite Rive. We tried it and it was awesome and the tab was less than $100 WITH vino! See my review on that later...

The fireplace worked just the way it was supposed to...light crumpled paper, watch kindling catch and snap to life, roaring fire ensues. No smoke coming back into the room...Priceless!

The other guests were great. We spent an evening enjoying wine and snacks and the company of strangers who quickly became friends.

And what better way to seal the bond of friendship than to feed the lamas as the sun set?? Hilarious and fun.

Yes. Bill and Hilary stayed here, in 1984, while he was the governor of AK...AND he stayed in the same room as us!!! How cool is that?

    Cons:
See my Verizon comment above if you need to stay connected!

Our room was great, with a wonderful view, but it didn't have a tub.

The wine bar is nearly complete and looks great.

Breakfast is very tasty BUT it's served at 9am....darn the early birds!

The drive took us about 3.5 hours...if only I had a Porsche for those twisty forest roads...my truck didn't offer that autobahn experience... :) It was SO much better on the way back...during the day!

Did I mention that Mendocino gas was going for $6/gal!!!! It's half that price in the Bay area right now. Gas up early and often, just not there!!

Overall: If you're going to Mendocino, stop by Glendeven its the place to stay.

This was our first visit to a bed and breakfast, however we have stated many hotels before.  Overall the experience was all that it was advertised to be, and as good as the other reviews here.  Here's the highlights:

-Property: large area with multiple small buildings, very well-kept.  Being the city slickers that we are, it was a added bonus to interact with the chickens, llamas, and guinea!
-Room: stayed in Etta's Suite, great layout with a patio and fireplace in the bedroom.  Mattress was excessively firm, but innkeeper promised to look into replacing if necessary.  Very clean.
-Food: breakfast was essentially continental with a small hot food portion, I would say it was good but not great.
-Staff: very helpful and hospitable, even one of the owners was friendly and came around to chat.
-Value: seems on par with the rest of the local establishments; last-minute discounts can be had on their website, plus they take <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbedandbreakfast.com&s=9ebc00b3a2a058d70a4641d86ef3260fec8b1c48c2436b64f87f545fc850fdc6" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bedandbreakfast.c…</a> gift cards!

I took my mom there last night as a late Mother's Day present.  What a pleasant surprise!  The view took our breaths away.

    Pros:

    1. Gorgeous view.
    2. Reasonable pricing that includes wine and appetizers in the afternoon, as well as 3-course warm breakfast served in your room in the morning.
    3. Friendly owners and staff.
    4. Good attention to detail.
    5. A working fire place.

    Cons:
    1. The size of the bed.  It's supposed to be a queen size but felt more like a full.
    2. The weight of the comforter.... a bit too thick.

Bonus: As I told them this was a late mother's day gift, they placed a bottle of wine and a small box of Godiva chocolates in our room upon check-in, along with a card that said "Happy Mother's Day" - all free of charge!  How sweet!

My husband and I just came back home from a great anniversary getaway at Glendeven.  I've never been to Mendocino or a B&B and I must say first impressions last.  I was so sad to have left this morning as our stay was quite lovely.

We stayed in Etta's Suite, which is the 4th daughter of the family that claimed the land after arriving from Maine (I remembered the info from the info sheet they gave to us about the house).  It was a two room/one bath suite.  I will say that the bathroom is small & only has a shower.  I know there were other suites that have a bath if thats your cuppa.  The shower was just fine with us.

Etta's Suite overlooked into the llama's pasture and a view of the Pacific.  The bed (feater) was wonderfully comfortable and a fireplace with wood, newspapers, matches, and tools to get that romantic fire lit.  The suite also had a balcony, which you could go out and have your morning tea/coffee or even to relax in the sun.  There is a bit of noise from the traffic, but don't let that scare you.  At night, its very quiet and you'll probably be out and about during the day anyway.

Breakfast was awesome... we had homemade fritatas, fresh squeezed orange & grapefruit juice, bread, and tea.

ALL of the staff were friendly and hospitable.  The wine hour was lovely as we got to meet the other couples staying there during the weekend.  The grounds were well kept and there was accessible trails near or on the property.  We took the Bog Trail down which took us over to the Comptche camp grounds.  It was an easy, but fairly new trail too (trail was fairly soft).

There is NO PHONE OR TELEVISION in the room, so prepare to only relax with your honey or self.  I didn't have any cell phone service except while in town.

This place was very very awesome and I was pretty sad to leave.  The time spent with my husband was awesome and it helped us relax from all the craziness at home (baby, needy cat, house cleaning, etc.)  We are going to go back next year for our anniversary (4/20).  It was quite apparent that people were enjoying themselves.  We did too ;)
