I've been coming here for 20 years.  The food is consistently good and the portions are ample. Im partial to buffalo chicken wings and theirs are awesome. Meaty, flavorful and they are generous with the ranch dressing.  One point deducted because the place is looking a little tired but if your all about the food this is a gem.

I enjoy the food. Josue(?) is the best cook. I really wish they would change the rug, I notice it every time and it's pretty gross. Please. and thank you.

This is a brunch only review. I have been here countless times from brunch and it's always delicious. My go to is the carne asada eggs benedict. It's rich, sinful, and delicious. We always sat outside on the back patio and got good service. It also helped that we were regulars. Decent bottomless mimosas - beware, it's pretty cheap champagne. But when you're nursing a hangover - it gets the job done.

Good Time Charlies is known for their great breakfast options with a friendly atmosphere! I came here for Father's day with my family and I can't really complain. I ordered their cabo omelet and it was delicious. Their bloody Mary's are also very yummy and strong. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because we didn't have the friendliest server and she took a very long time to bring out everything we asked for, including the check.

Overall, great place to come for breakfast!

My friend and I wandered here based on my sense of adventure of finding new happy hour places to eat and drink at. I found this place online while I was looking for Taco Tuesday places. This is not what you would consider a Taco Tuesday place, but now it's on my list of places I'll think about going! The place is very American and so are the people who come there for food. The place also reminded me a bit of Cheers where people knew each others and the regulars came very often. Even though it was our first time there, our server Cherie was so sweet and friendly that we felt welcomed there immediately.

    Onto the food and drinks:
The margaritas here are so cute! They are pretty good tasting (especially for PB) and they come with this cute little shaker.

Carne Asada Quesadilla and Taco: Highly recommended by Cherie and I'm so glad she did. The kitchen staff do their own marinade and it works! Delicious, savory, flavorful, and perfectly cooked carne asada. This was nothing like I expected. I was so blinded by how surprisingly good that tasted that the rest of the quesadilla or taco did not matter (even though it was done well). Well, if you wanted to know, the quesadilla had a nice toasted outside and a melted cheese inside with a side of salsa, guacamole, and sour cream. They were all tasty. The taco came with diced lettuce, diced tomato, and shredded cheese. The toppings were okay in comparison to the amazing meat.

Chicken Taco: Grilled chicken taco was good. The grilled chicken was cooked well but there was nothing crazy to note here. This taco was also topped with diced lettuce, diced tomato, and shredded cheese. This probably would've been more noted if it weren't for starting with the carne asada taco.

Carnitas: This was well done as well since the meat was soft, juicy, and savory with the same toppings as the other tacos, but all I can think of is eating more carne asada at this point even though on its own this would've been pretty tasty.

Overall, the atmosphere was nice, the carne asada is worth coming for, and the service was friendly and welcoming. The only thing I really want to come to this place for is the good happy hour, the carne asada tacos on Tuesday, and the dinner specials (since they looked very intriguing).

We have been eating here for years and I normally order the Carne Asada Egg Benedict ...both the food & service has always been amazing....last Sunday we went there with friends and  I ordered the pancakes & Scrambled Eggs...it was awful....I seriously think I would have had a better breakfast at Denny's and to make matters worse our waitress was so rude that if I had not been here before I would not be coming back.

    I'll keep this simple:
The food is always great! They have daily specials which always seem to have steak in them (which my husband loves), and everything on the menu that I've tried is awesome.  Really good food!

Lots of local regulars, they always have sports on the TVs, great service and the owner takes time to walk around and say hello when he's there.
    Great spot!

My husband and I come here regularly for breakfast. I love how it's basically
locals. The staff is awesome, friendly and I have never had a bad breakfast there. They have a great champagne deal, a bottle for 12 bucks.
The food comes out to you quickly..always piping hot. A must try is the carne asada eggs benedict..to die for. When my mom visits from Ohio this is her go to breakfast joint.

The patio is dog friendly and the owner is usually around on weekends and talks to everyone asking how their meal is..great joint and a must try.

Their dinner specials are good too..my fave appetizer is the calamari strips.

Great food all day long. Love the Huevos Mexicana. Great service. Friendly, neighborhood bar/restaurant. Great for watching sports or just catching up with friends.

Great food for breakfast or dinner. It's really relaxed and the servers are great. It gets really packed around 1:00 AM since they are one of the only places in PB that will stay open for a late last call. The tacos are bomb and the carne asada quesadilla.

My girlfriend and I had the Sunday night special, tri tip. WOW, with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and a salad only $9.95 what a deal. We had  our 10 year old with us, so this is still a kid friendly place although it resembles a sports bar/neighborhood bar. BTW while we were there another couple walked in with two kids also. Our son had buffalo wings. The sauce was HOT, HOT. So if u want spicy this is perfect, he didn't care for them once it had the sauce on it. This was from the appetizer menu. I forget our servers name but she was great, always checking on us. So overall great food, nice place, comfortable and a very reasonable price. Add in 2 sodas and a glass of wine all for $42 a real deal.

I came here on a lovely Saturday morning and I was a tad hung over, in search of some good grubs to calm my growling tummy down. I am glad that we chose Good Time Charlie's!

My host recommended the carne asada eggs Benedict so that's what I ordered with a side of fresh fruit instead of fries. It was a good call and the best part was actually eating the left overs the next day! Even after a quick reheat, the carne asada was still just as bomb as it was Day 1!

I liked the vibe of this place. It was very mellow and like others noted in their reviews - it's just like the show Cheers. While no one "knew my name", I would definitely come back often enough for them to get to know me.

Definitely the Cheer's of PB. One of the few places where Old Guys Rule. Could be a great neighborhood joint...okay food at reasonable prices. Ample parking.  When Rocky's is full, Charlie's is a perfect plan B.  Great breakfast spot. Owner is welcoming, most of the long time staff too.  Expect to get frosted at the bar on weekend afternoons. Hideo and hard core regulars can make you feel invisible.

Locally owned and definitely one of my favorite bars/restaurants in PB.  The food is excellant and of course the beer is always cold.  If you you live in Pacific Beach this is always a great place to end the night.  Always good times at Good Time Charlie's!

I like this place..good prices for good food. Friendly owner usually at the bar. And the staff is friendly. I think the owner had a vision for this place and achieved it.

It's cool cuz it's a lil low key and mellow. Lil older crowd that maybe why. The tacos on Tuesday sold me on this place. Fish tacos and the calamari tacos are pretty good..they blow cabos tacos away.

And they have real good deals on certain days. I had a salmon, rice, and veggie dinner there for $10..and it was good quality. Defiantly no hint of fast food here. This place is all around good.

Go here on a week day dinner fo sho...or if you don't, that's cool. I don't want it to be crowded when i go there anyways...

If there is a place you want to go where you won't be over-charged, you will be welcomed with open arms and you won't feel like you have been through the Twilight Zone, Good Time Charlie's is the place.  If everywhere is packed, Charlie's is the place to be.  The staff is welcoming and typically have something funny and entertaining to say.  They make sure you are taken care of without you feeling harassed, which is great because sometimes it's too much.  I typically come here for drinks on the weekend, but I have learned that they have Filet specials on Weds and Thurs nights, and apparently it's awesome.

There is usually an eclectic group here at night, which is great for a good laugh and story for later.  During the day, the patio is a nice place to sit, drink a beer, sample some food and enjoy the day overall.  They cater to large groups if that is your fancy or just a casual even with a friend.  The parking lot is a downer because it's usually full during the day, but Charlie's is an easy place to walk to from anywhere around the beach area.

At first glance I would not think tacos. On Taco Tuesday, this is where I want to be. The calamari taco is awesome, the sauce is awesome, the calamari is awesome. If you are looking for good food and not the crowds of the usual PB spots, this is where you want to be.

Came here on a Pacific Beach weekend at around 9pm on a Friday.  It was pretty dead in here and it smelled a little off, like stale parmesan cheese.  We got a seat at the bar without any difficulty, but didn't want to stay very long, as not much was really going on.  Standard bar, bartender service, also they have food and waitress service at the tables. It does seem stuck in an 80s/Cheers timewarp, from the decor.  I saw more than one group walk in, take a look around, and leave.  Maybe it gets busier later, but the crowd here seems older, like quiet, respectable local drinkers & not a party/holiday-ish place.  I don't think I'd come back.

I went in here with a group on Taco Tuesday.

The bar was a little full but the seating area was open, we had a large group so we gravitated towards the back as to not aggravate anyone to much with our banter.

I myself had the margarita shaker for 6$ which was about 2.5 drinks and well worth it.

I had a pork and chicken taco and they were bomb!  They also had calamari and carne asada i had bites of all and they were all delicious.  They were legit tacos because not only was it meat ( like i have had at other place to claim and have good tacos) lettuce tomato cheese and a great sauce which i was not sure about what it was exactly.  The tacos are 2$ a pop.

Great place and not the last time i will be going there

GTC has a lot of under utilized potential.  It's a block from the beach, they've got lots of parking, they're open late, the food is good and the staff is cool.

GTC could use some aesthetics work.  The windows are wide open and if the music is playing it usually isn't loud enough to hear.  To quote a friend "It's like drinking at Coco's".  If you're paranoid about someone breaking into your car, this is the place because you've got a view of the parking lot with every table. Bling!  Flair!  Something!  Throw me a bone!  I need eye candy! Turn up the music when it gets late.

Weekday dinner specials that aren't on the standard menu for $10.  A tasty steak fillet on Wednesday that is the best deal in town. They also always have daily specials from $14 to $18ish that aren't regular menu items and they're always tasty as well.  The best thing about their kitchen is that it's open until 12AM during the week and 1AM on weekends. The only other good food in PB at that time is Nick's at the Beach.

If you're going out with friends that want to drink and you need a place that kids can go, this is it.  It's just like Coco's!  There aren't many other places in PB that have a bar without bar food. GTC is a restaurant with a bar.

As others have mentioned, it's like Cheers.  The bar wraps around the bartender and everybody is looking at each other.  There are lots of regular characters in the 50 and up range that sit at the bar.  After 10pm or later the crowd changes, there is less eating, more drinking and the average age drops.

There are two outside areas you can eat and drink.  One has a beautiful view of the parking lot, no smoking permitted.  The other is smaller with a little nicer atmosphere and smoking is permitted there.

Lots of HDTVs with a few sports packages(NFL, MLB, ?).

Some times you wanna go where everybody knows you name.... dumn, dumn, dumn....and they're always glad you came...dumn, dumn, dumn......

Really only the logo but still a good atmosphere and happy hour. You can get some decent food here too.

Good Time Charlie's sign looks like the Cheers logo from the TV show, and it has the same kind of feel inside.  It's got an older crowd of (presumably)regulars at the bar, and the bartenders are pretty entertaining.

The beer selection is small, but diverse.  It vaired from Bud Light to Fat TIre.  If beer's not your thing, the bartenders are well versed enough to shake up your favorite mixed drink.

Bottom Line:  Good Time Charlie's had enough going for it to make it a good stop in our bar hopping festivities, but I can't envision spending my whole night here...

This is a decent, non-pretentious place you go to when you want pub food and drink at a low price in a warm atmosphere.  It's not trying to be a 5-star restaurant, wine bar, or club.

If you go at dinner time, the dinner specials are the way to go, especially the tri-tip on Sunday nights.  The fresh catch indeed always is fresh, though they don't try to get too fancy with how they prepare it. The tortilla soup is a standout.

The crowd ranges from some happy hour drinkers huddled around the bar to families dining.  Both the staff and the clientele are dressed very casual, you could wear sweats there and not feel off.

They do a fine job of delivering what they are trying to deliver, and you won't be disappointed on a casual evening where you just want decent food at a decent price with no pretension.

This is a totally decent spot. Yea, I can see how it can be a little dive-y at bar hours, but I was here during the week for lunch, and it felt like a spot where anyone could show up and no one would blink an eye.  I also had my small dog with me, and they let me sit outside with him, even though we had to walk through the restaurant to get to the back patio.  They brought him water, as well.

Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive.  We both had the Ahi Salad, which had a balsamic and some wasabi and ginger.  It was made up of mixed greens. Totally decent and made me very happy.

This is a nice place for dinner.  They have a small bar and an outdoor patio if you want fresh air for dinner.

Dinners for 8-12 bucks and friendly staff.

This is a good family restaurant if you are looking for a quiet place in Pacific Beach and the food is more than satisfactory.

Have been here a couple of times before (years and years ago), and then went today with my FI.  So awesome.  Went for brunch (super late lunch actually) and we both had mimosas and breakfast (french toast combo for him and carne asada benedict for me).
Mimosas = flutes with oj accompanied by a mini champagne bottle.  Great presentation and so yummy...the oj was SO good!
Carne asada benedict = ok, so it's not authentic carne but it was so yummy.

Service was top notch also.  Very attentive.
We will be back soon for sure.  They have nightly specials that we want to try!

The first thing you notice when walking into Charlie's is the permeating smell of beer. Is it coming from the people, the bar or the carpet? Not sure but it's oderiferous! Then you notice the green carpet. Nice.

We went on a Friday night and surprisingly enough the place was busy but not with the usual suspects...there were children....tons of them...there must have been a birthday party or something but it was weird. Half the bar filled with people drinking beer and the other half sat with kids waiting to eat. The staff was very friendly. My husband had a hefeweizen (Blue Moon)...he thought it was a bit strange that it came with an orange slice instead of a lemon but all he cared about was the beer so he put the orange slice aside. We shared a cheeseburger with fries. It was a take it or leave it sort of thing. Nothing special...just a bar burger. The beer was about $4.50 and the cheeseburger was a little under $8...not too expensive.

Nice place to watch the Charger game and get some decent food. The staff was friendly and attentive. The place has enough TV's to see what's happening, but not make it feel like a sports bar.
Simple menu, good bloody maries, and comfortable seats.
This may be my new Sunday morning, first half place.

Get here early because this place is packed on NFL Sundays.

Their breakfast menu is just right and the portions are enough to get you filled up. My son loved his chocolate chip pancakes. I had the french toast and it turned out very good.

Don't worry there are more than enough TV's here for anyone to catch all the NFL games going on.

Ahhhhhhhh Charlie's. The memories. The dirty, shameful, foggy memories.

The time my rich ass clients bet each other & had a foot race in the parking lot before a Chargers game.

Josh getting suckered by a cougar. Brad's blow up sheep. DMB & the gang attacking the patio glass w/ a Sharpie. "No Charlie, noooooooo" as he hands me ANOTHER Crush.

Been going since I was 18. My whole family eats there. I used to meet DMB for lunch & write it off as a "business". I love the tortilla soup, the modified sandwich they make me, and the fact I can order it late into the night. I also love I could roll up at 1:59 and Suzanne would open the door &  serve us.

Such a shame it's now on the OC Douche bus route.

    And a damn shame Charlie's gone :(

Let me just start off by saying I did not eat here.  My intention was to run in and use the bathroom while we were doing a little PB Pub Crawl action.  (Does 3 bars really count as a crawl?) When I walk out of the bathroom the group I was with already all had beers, so I got one too.  Nothing really exciting to choose from so I got my if-there-is-nothing-else-on-tap-but-sierra-nevada-i'll-have-that.

What I noticed about this place was the waitress all wore short shorts and had no bizness doing so.  I should knock a star for that.

From the outside, Good Time Charlie's has a sign reminiscent of Cheers.  Inside, it's pretty similar too: a lot of old blokes sparsely populating a neighborhood joint.

Our hero was half expecting to see Cliff, Norm, and Woody at the bar.

    PROS:
    - It's sort of out of the way, providing a respite from the Garnet street norm of PB.
    - Bartenders are friendly here and don't hassle you for ID.
    - They serve dinner until fairly late here.

    CONS:
    - Fairly boring and old patrons for PB.  I came here with a friend also in his 20's and we sat around discussing the economy and the stock market.  This bar will do that to you.
    - Usually very empty until late in the night.

Bigger place than I thought and they have a patio area.

Goodtime Charlie's was a stop on an action packed route on Mission, Grand and Garnet so we quickly loaded up on our beer and left. But I'd like to come back sometime.

They let us bring Bogart's into the restaurant. Beer and Bogart's? Yummm...

Another place that I have been wanting to check out, I mean "good time Charlie's" just sounds divey and fun and like anything could happen.  I think I hyped it up way too much in my mind, but it wasn't bad.  They have a nice patio, that is great and private if you are loud, annoying and talk about inappropriate things (you don't have to disturb the customers with better sensibilities).  Opted for a Stella, and score! - they have the special Stella goblets!  Maybe I was a bit drunk already, but I was seriously impressed by that.  The service was good, someone even came out to the patio and hooked us up with ice waters without us asking for anything.

Plus, it's next to Bogart's, so if you really need a heath fro-yo with your afternoon beer, you're golden!

I love this place.  I feel like Norm on Cheer's every time I go into Good Time Charlie's.  It is open until 2 a.m., so it is a great last call bar.  However, if you wanna avoid the PB scene in the middle of PB, this is the place.  Good drinks, above-average bar food, and the fact that there is always a bar stool for me make it a regular watering hole for me.

Whenever Lindsay and I have lunch, we tend to end up here, as it's a block from her work and has a nice outdoor patio.  Other than it being outdoors, there isn't anything sensational about this place.  It is casual and homey and comfortable and you don't feel like you are in a tanning bed commercial like you do in other PB locations.

The food here is okay, I've never had anything bad nor have I ever had anything sensational.  Today I had a cheeseburger and french fries.  Fries were slightly soggy, but that is probably because I waited to eat it.  The burger was good, good flavor and just what I needed after a long morning at the airport.

Would I go back here?  Definitely if someone suggested it.  But it isn't my first suggestion.  It's mostly convenient and you know what to expect.

This is damn fine bar to go to if you feel like going out, but you don't feel like going all out. The bar is pretty casual and homey and it is located away from the madness of Garnet. I have been here for lunch with my family and I have been here for a late night meal with my mates and all the times, I had a good time.

Goodtime Charlies is small restaurant and it is comparable to the Spot in La Jolla because it is a bar, but the restaurant serves food late at night and the food is delicious and hits spot at any hour.

Goodtime Charlies is an American restaurant, but there are are tons of items on the menu. The menu includes fish taco dinner specials, stir fry dishes and plenty of good ol' fashion eats like hamburgers and salads. I had the salmon ceasar salad here and it was very good, the fish was pretty fresh.

Goodtime Charlie's doesn't have a happy hour, but the place serves good, strong, cheap drinks. A rum and coke is about $3.25, which is dang good deal. This is a good place to go with your friends if you don't feel like going dancing, but you do feel like eating and drinking because Goodtime Charlies serves dinner 'till midnight on the weekends. I guess they don't call it Goodtime Charlie's for nothin'.

My first impression of this place was a good one. We stopped by there at like 1:15, after one of the big PB bars kicked us out for last call, hoping to get a round of shots in and be on our way. So we did that, we ordered our shots and took them and were ready to leave, when we noticed that the place showed no signs of closing any time soon. In fact, "Good Time" Charlie himself was chatting up one of my friend's friends and proving himself well worthy of the nickname.

That night was a fun one, and it lead to many more. I eventually met Charlie and talked to him about how awesome it was that they seemed to be the only bar in Pacific Beach that didn't seperate "Bar time" from "Pacific Standard Time" by like 45 minutes. (Bar time, shmar time, Charlie's closes at two. But they absolutely will not hesitate to take a full beer out of your hands at 1:59 if you lag or abuse their trust on this issue.)

That type of hospitality says a lot about the attitude here. They are genuinely friendly, good -- like any "corner bar" should be -- at making regulars out of stragglers. And the place is not congested with 21-year-old Real World wanna-be's like most of the bars in that area. It's mellow, and I like that. If I still lived near the Beach, Good Time Charlie's would be my hangout.
