I love this place! The store has a great variety, local wares, good vegetarian frozen foods, wine, and above the shop is a great restaurant with warm people. I would go here over and over again if I lived in the area. As a visitor, I plan to return every time I visit my dad (who lives in Greenbank). This place is a must-stop-by every time. Oh, and the Whidbey Ice Cream? So good. We had chocolate chardonnay, which is awesome.

This review is for the deli only....we have heard good things about the restaurant upstairs, but it was not open when we were there.
The deli....Um, don't bother.  Very overpriced thin little sandwiches and not a great selection either.  The reason it gets two stars rather than one is the cool history and funky vibe of the building.

Good friends of mine have a place in greenbank and this little shop is our go-to for veggies, fruits, dairy, snacks, beer and wine. Pretty good beer/wine selection! They carry lots of local produce and organic foods. We love supporting local! Easter morning we picked up a couple cinnamon pull-apart breads- unbelievably delicious! We usually cook at the cabin so I haven't had a chance to try anything else from the grille but I plan to one of the next times we're up.

I had a reuben with fries.  The best!  My husband had the fish tacos and the other couple with us had burgers.  Everyone enjoyed what they had.  Service was friendly and very good.  We will be back!

    Store:
The Greenbank Store is a cute little shop.  For the small population that lives in Greenbank, it's the closest grocery store (by 15 minutes) and it's got at least one of everything you could possibly need ... from eggs and milk to deli meats, wine, and beer.  It's a little spendier than the big, mega-marts, but I like supporting a local business and it's near by.  Plus, I know how small the margins are in a grocery store business.  It's tough to stay afloat when you're small, kudos to them.

    Grille:
A nice local spot for beer, garlic fries, and some occassional live local music.  There's one waiter I love.  He's tall, young, lots of piercings, and exudes a really great energy.  He's my waiter every time I go in, and that's just how I like it (though, I'm embaressed to admit, I don't know his name!).  The first time I went there the kitchen staff totally dropped the ball and it took over an HOUR to get a burger and fish & chips.  It was ridiculous, but the waiter was very apologetic and gave us one of our dishes free.
All my subsequent visits have been much better.  The kitchen staff has gotten it together, the food comes out hot ...

The only reason they're getting three stars instead of four is because it's obvious they use frozen, pre-battered fish in two or three of their recipies.  It's mushy and gross and ruins all of them.  Fish & chips, fish taco ... which is a bummer, because their menu only has maybe 25 items.

We had to send our burgers back, they were little fat balls that were bloody which turned the buns bright red..not to appealing. I was so grossed out that I didn't even try the fries which looked really good.

In all fairness that was when the new owners had just taken over the business, I've heard that they figured out that most people want the burger to meet the bun and not be a bloody mess. When this place was the Loft it was truly amazing and I think the new owners are trying to bring the place back as close to that as is possible now a days, which I appreciate.

My kids often order the fries which I guess are really good.

Decent brunch food on a Sunday.  Friendly staff, the server was a little distracted.

I wish that they had at least a soup and salad option for people that don't want brunch at noon on Sunday.  Not sure what the rules are about getting lunch at the deli and bringing it upstairs to eat in the restaurant?

The store has a lot of good options if you are vacationing and need supplies.

    The espresso was very good.

Good place to stop on the way to Coupeville.

This is a GREAT place. Warm and friendly environment. The food is delicious; burgers, fish tacos, salads along with the best fries I've ever eaten.   Stop in the store for a loaf of locally made Screamin' Banshee Bread, but be careful, it's additive.  Centrally located on Whidbey Island.

If you haven't been to the Greenbank Store & Grille in the past 6 months GO BACK  NOW!!  Wow!  What a transformation.   From what used to be a store that was pretty much only good for beer and past-dated milk, and a restaurant with iffy food and horrible service, it's now a fantastic little store and incredible dining establishment.   For it's size the store is well stocked including organic options, has a great assortment of wine and local gifts.   The grille is DELICIOUS!  And if you go at happy hour which seems to be nearly all the time micro-brew pints are only $3.50.  Highly recommend the fish tacos, or the daily specials which have never let me down.

Great food, cool atmosphere. We went 3 times in two weeks because we enjoyed it so much.

Prices are reasonable AND they have $4 14 Hands wine for happy hour, which seems to be all the time.

The Shrimp Carbonara and Fish Tacos are delicious.

Awesome food!  Past reviews complained about the burgers - my wife said hers was awesome. I had the fish and chips and it was hands down the best I have ever had.

Took the Corvair Club there today during our Whidbey Wine Tour.  Nancy and Brian were great host and EVERYONE loved the food.  Thanks to them for helping to make this a good day.

As the others have stated, this place is exceptional. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. The Rueben was one of the best I've ever had. And the fries were awesome. If on Whidbey, make this a stop for a great meal.

Fantastic new place that has been through several iterations most recently as the "1904". Brian the owner has taken a chance on making a go on the store, deli and grill.  Trevor, Mariah (very cute) and Tyler make up the wait and bar staff.  Limited menu but some clever nightly specials. The pasta is simple but excellent, the honey mustard chops and the pineapple habanero chicken are unique.  The bacon gorgonzola burger is nothing to write home about and the fries are hand cut and excellent The Filet Mignon is good and a great value.
The fish taco special was tasty although I would prefer it be grilled rather than fried.

We had great customer service when we had a problem with our take-out sandwich. They use very fresh ingredients.

Fingers crossed........................  This place has re-opened again with new owners and so far so good.  The general store is back and the shelves are being stocked with essentials and a few specialty items and a small selection of local produce.  The cafe' upstairs is also back and open for lunch and dinner.  They layout is the same as the previous occupants 19o4.  We're really hoping they open for breakfast too although you can get breakfast burritos from the deli in the back of the store.  WE needed this place and I hope the locals support the heck out of this place like we will be doing!   We've eaten lunch at the cafe' and also had a lunch to go from the deli in the back.  They also have espresso.

Our first try for the new restaurant and bar replacing 1904.  We were extremely happy with the friendly service.  We had the garden salad with grilled chicken and the pineapple habanero chicken.  I'd recommend a visit you won't be disappointed.

We had some lunch to go the other day and it was good.  The fries were awesome, they were out of soup which is disappointing, but I guess that means it must be good.  The chicken fingers were good, cooked in what reminded me of fish and chips batter.  Once we were home the burger was undercooked, very mushy and pink in the middle; that was our only drawback.  The atmosphere is good and they have a cool looking bar upstairs.  They have an excellent menu for such a random little place and we are excited to try all of it.  We live close and I foresee us coming here often.
